Although he was present at the start of the Warmaster's rebellion, the primarch Fulgrim did not fight at Isstvan III - rather, he was beginning down his own personal path to damnation. This Horus Heresy omnibus follows Fulgrim's temptation by the powers of Chaos, as well as how his devious actions came to scar both friend and foe alike amongst his superhuman brethren.
Only in perfection can evil flourish. With the Space Marine Legions falling upon one another in open battle, the most flawed of the mighty primarchs began to pursue their own agendas, seeking out whatever destinies they imagined for themselves under Horus’s new order. Fulgrim, the Phoenician lord of the Emperor’s Children, had always striven to outshine his brothers – but even he could never have guessed the depths of betrayal to which he would eventually sink in pursuit of greater power. In strength, there is weakness. In beauty, horror. The Horus Heresy continues in this omnibus, with the fall of the III Legion to Chaos. The novels Fulgrim and Angel Exterminatus serve as a chronicle of Fulgrim’s corruption, while The Crimson Fist, The Reflection Crack’d and many other tales from the New York Times best selling series reveal the true extent of his damnation...
This paperback omnibus follows the fall of one of Warhammer 40,000's most infamous daemonic villains, and how that affects all those around him as the war progresses. With two full novels by Graham McNeill, two novellas and plenty of associated short stories, this is the complete chronicle of Slaanesh's greatest conquest...
Hailing from Scotland, Graham McNeill narrowly escaped a career in surveying to work for Games Workshop as a games designer. He has a strong following with his novels Nightbringer, Warriors of Ultramar, Dead Sky, Black Sun and Storm of Iron.
This Omnibus chronicles, mostly, the descent of Fulgrim and his legion into the embrace of Slaanesh, but also shows more of the Iron warriors legion and it's primarch, Perturabo, during the heresy era.
Fulgrim - the first novel in the book is really good and is the starting point for Fulgrim's transformation. No need for spoilers, it is really good.
The Phoenician - a really short short story about the duel between Fulgrim and Ferrus Manus on Istvaan as told from the perspective of one of the Morlocks (The elite unit of the Iron Hands). It was OK.
The Iron Within - A brilliant short story about Iron warriors defending a fortress against all odds.
The Crimson Fist - Another really good novella length story mostly about the battle of Phall, where the Imperial Fists retribution fleet sent by Dorn to punish the Warmaster for his treachery is now trapped by warp storms in the Phall system and expecting an attack. And also about Sigismund and Dorn back on Terra. Loved all 80 something pages of it.
The Reflection Crack'd - The Commanders of the Emperors children try to deal with demon possessed Fulgrim. One of the weakes in this omnibus.
Angel Exterminatus - Fulgrim and Perturabo go to the Eye of Terror in search of a fabled Eldar weapon. While I liked it, mostly, there were many issues with it, especially towards the end. McNeill writes action very well but on the plot and characters he issometimes hit and miss. Without spoiling anything I found that this book has quite a few plot holes , macguffins and many story arcs that go nowhere . and also a very rushed ending. Overall it is worth it, not only for the action scenes, which are done well, but also for one of the few glimpses into the IV Legion and it's master's motives, plus there are a ton of Iron warrior characters from the Storm of Iron and Ventris books that get their backgrounds and origin stories in Angel Exterminatus . Also the Iron Hands are written as competent and worthy foes for once and it is always nice to see Imperfect - An interesting short about Fulgrim and his remorse(?) and dealing(?) with killing Ferrus. Chirurgeon - A look into Fabius' troubled past and more insight into the disease that's killing him. Lucius the Eternal Blade - Meh short short about Lucius. I guess it's obvious that I don't like Lucius, eh;)
