Little Book Five
Volume Two

The elf queen who infected the werewolf population isn’t going away—and neither are the two heartbeats that will soon be the children in Cory’s arms.

Cory’s used to throwing herself physically into the fray, but as their enemy gets closer and more dangerous, she’s forced to choose between her safety and the people sworn to protect her. Her guardians are tired of worrying about Cory and her unborn children, and Cory is getting plain tired.

The preternatural world isn’t her only worry—basic human birthing rituals are going to be a pain in the ass for a woman whose children will be sidhe. Cory’s mother is still fuzzy on the concept of a polyamorous multispecies marriage and sets her up with an OBGYN obsessed with the inhuman silhouettes of her babies.

Cory doesn’t want her children born in the middle of a turf war, but the people she and Green have nurtured and fought for aren’t about to let her face this enemy alone. This battle is for queen and home, and the babies quickening in Cory’s body are a symbol of hope. Cory’s going to have to give up the idea of being a weapon and embrace the idea of being a mother, or she’ll let down those depending on her most.

I know I said at the end of 'Quickening, Vol. 1' that I couldn't wait until volume two released, but now that it has, I'm sad to be reading what will be the finale of this wondrous series. My heart is in my throat because, even though I know the author won't deliberately let something bad happen, I'm terrified that a beloved character is going to die, or destruction will decimate Green's Hill. I know I'm being silly but I can't help it. After all of these years, these characters and the Hill have become my family and my home.

Nimuetia is the elf gone mad who has created all these blood bonded werewolves, sucking their power and discarding them when they're all used up, just to attack Green's Hill and its inhabitants. Actually, what she wants is Green's power and his people. She stupidly assumes that Cory is just his human weapon, not knowing, or understanding, that she's a sorceress, the little Goddess, and wife to Green, Bracken, and Nicky. Nimuetia is a perversion of everything the elves hold dear, and it's time to end this war.

As all of the books in this series have shown, even though there is always a supernatural threat, the bottom line is always about the people. I have watched Cory go through so much, and she has grown into herself in a way I couldn't have imagined when I started 'Vulnerable'. She amazes me with her strength, her vulnerability, her power, and her ability to go from zero to furious in one point five seconds. More than anything, though, I loved experiencing her pregnancy through her eyes, the eyes of her husbands, and all the folk on the Hill.

There is so very much I could say about the story, the plot, the ending, etc., but I truly believe this series, and this book, need to be experienced. I can say that the author took me on an adventure beyond belief and I truly hope this isn't the end. However, if it is, I know I will revisit Green's Hill, my family and friends, many, many, many times over the coming years. For these people are firmly lodged within me and are never leaving my heart.

Finally. FINALLY. The babies are coming, and we have some closure! Cory and her men and their people have worked SO HARD to get here. And we readers have bled, sweated, and cried right along with them. Congrats, Amy Lane, on finally bringing your little goddess home.

The action in this final installment is quick, and there are a lot of strings to tie off as the story races to the end point. Cory is WAY pregnant, her men are in protective mode, their world is under attack, and—good lord—Cory’s mom is trying to be INVOLVED. A lot is going on in this volume. The characters are finishing their arcs, really maturing and evolving and owning the roles they’ve been growing into for the entire length of the series, and the readers get to revisit all the people they’ve fallen in love with over the course of the main books and novellas.

Now, I don’t want to spoil or overstate anything, but if you’ve been waiting for this ending like I have, you won’t be disappointed with the resolution. Bittersweet and beautiful—but how could it have ever been anything else? Grab this book and immerse yourself in this little kingdom one more time. I know this series is going on my re-read list; I just like spending time there so much.

It felt so good to finally read this book. This series has been a labor of love for the author that has been in progress for years (YEARS, I SAY). And those of us who found it early have been waiting with baited breath to see where it would wind up. The ending is suitable and satisfying. I still want more; I still have some questions, but that’s because I just love this world and its characters, and I am a greedy so-and-so. Lucky for all of us, the werewolves are coming back this fall.

So...I'm giving this book (both volumes - I'm critiquing the entire story here) 5 stars because it's well written, it's an excellent and needed conclusion to the series and all the beloved characters are back. They grow in good ways and stay the same in ways we would want them to. The story is gripping, and carries on the tradition of Cory and her family dealing with personal challenges while having to fight/battle evil forces trying to destroy Green's Hill. If you sense a but coming it's because I do have things I disliked about this story. However, they are all related to my own personal issues and therefore I don't think they should affect how I rate this book. I love Amy Lane's books and especially this series. I feel the blood, touch, and song that's gone into it and it's all so personal and amazing and magical and powerful.

If you're curious about my personal dislikes (but also likes relating to plot and character development regarding this book) read the spoiler section below. Those looking for trigger warnings on the content will find them there as well.

This is so hard for me to do….. I just read the last of the Little Goddess books for the foreseeable future. My heart is broken, I do not understand why these books haven’t been more popular!

Anyhoo…

This is the final story of Cory, whom we have been following from obnoxious goth girl, to expectant mother. She’s been pregnant for seven years (not really!), and fighting an ongoing battle for the last bit of her pregnancy has taken its toll on her body. She’s usually the strong fighter, throwing herself into the battle with little concern for herself, but now she has little beings in her belly she is forced to think about. She’s STILL trying to finish school and get her multiple degrees, and after some bed rest over Christmas, she is basically carried from class to class by Bracken, because, dammit, she’s going to finish. While Cory is focusing on her babies and her school, other folks on the hill step up and take over some of her duties as resident bad-ass…

At the end of volume one, Cory’s mom manipulated her into going to see a human doctor, who does an ultrasound, and is shocked by what he sees. And fascinated, which leads to much drama and difficulty later in this book. It also leads to some revelations about Cory’s mom’s past, and gives us an explanation about Cory’s strength.

Teague, Max and Nicky, really step up in this book and show they are not just followers, but can be leaders when needed as well. Not only do they deal with the doctor situation, to mixed results I’ll say, but they also deal with the ongoing threat against Green’s Hill. Also with mixed results, as they get in over their heads and need Cory and Green’s help to finish it! So Cory does get to keep her bad-ass card after all.

Then we have the baby situation…. oh damn. I can’t say anything and spoil it! Let’s just say things don’t go as planned, but at the end we do have two healthy babies!

We also see quite a bit of Cory, Green, Bracken and Nicky solidifying as a family. I loved that. Nicky has always been a bit of an outsider with the the other three. At times Cory was kind of a snot to him, being forced to go on dates and have sex with him to keep him alive, but not really enjoying it. Finally in the last couple of books we see Nicky more accepted, not only by Cory and Green, but Bracken as well.

So this ends in a good place for everyone, but damn! I so want more! What happens next? Are there more babies? How do these two grow up? Do they drive everyone crazy? Ugh! I am greedy…

I have loved this series from the moment I read the first book, way back in 2010. I’ve loved the drama, the angst, the pain that these characters have gone through. I’ve loved the world, the characters, the creative details. I’ve loved the sex, the emotions, the bond they have all formed. I’ve loved the short stories that are attached, but separate. I love the transformations they have all gone through. I love the care with which this story has been written, the love that Amy Lane has put into it, because it is a work of love. I wish more people had read these books and gotten what I have out of them.

This is what urban fantasy is all about. This is why I read it, and especially why I read Amy Lane’s urban fantasy.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you Amy.

It was long time waiting for Amy Lane’s die- hard fans! Our Cory has been pregnant for quite a long time after Ms. Lane’s last book in her Indie Published Little Goddess series. Cory has come a long way from the girl we first read in 2005, when the world of Greenshill was first introduced. Green, Adrian, Cory and Bracken set out on an Epic trip to protect the Vampires, the Shifters, the Fairies, the Pixies and Elves and the entire paranormal community.

Amy was able to have all four of her original books re- edited and re- released by Dreamspinner Press in their DSP edition. Now we are blessed with Quickening in two parts…. we have our baby story Quickening 1 and 2.

I really do not think this is The End…….I think This is just The Beginning. Cory has finally found her own self -worth, she is truly The Little Goddess. These characters have stood the test of time, etched in this original UF story. The side stories of the wolves is most interesting, also seeing another side of Greenshill with Teague and Jack and Katy.

I cannot say enough about the innovative imagination of this wonderful author. Those who follow he M/M books should read and see a different side of Amy Lane.

I've waited for years to finally read the final book. Loved it for the most part.... I loved the relationships, the action and the magic. It was great finally meeting the babies. And reference to Trump, the Republicans and Hitler was hilarious. It gave the book a more modern reference.

However, I feel that one big issue has NOT been resolved. Lady Cory's immortality has not been settled. I would hate it I feel only has one human lifetime to spend with her beloveds. If she dies, then her husbands follow. For this alone, I hope Amy Lane writes another book. Or even a novella to address this issue. She says this is the last one but then Little Goddess fans will be forever left wondering.

So please Ms Lane, another book please....

This series was tough as hell to read. So many heartaches and battles and losses. But so much beauty and love and perfection. And what a way to end it. There couldn't have been a more perfect ending.

A great ending for this series are, but...

It probably needs more. The twins dynamic with their parents, all the hill's beings, and also the enemies.
This ending leaves us a sensation of "wanting more!"
Thanks, Mrs. Lane, for the wild journey, it was incredible!

Wonderful climax to the series

4.5 stars - action and suspense, love and comfort. This was a beautiful ending to the series. I would love to see the twins grow up but it left off on a hopeful, happy note.
