Ethan Ramsey arrived too late. Death. Destruction. Despair. He vowed to seek out the barbarians who laid waste to the small Sioux village, leaving but only a very few women and children alive. Assembling a rag-tag search party, Ethan embarks on a journey to find the killers while maintaining a glimmer of hope that he has not seen the last of someone near to his heart.
Return of the Coyote, the sequel to Night of the Coyote, is a story full of twists and turns. Readers of the first book will delight in the convergence of paths of characters both old and new, and the promise of the vision of the coyote looms over Ethan's journey.

COWBOYS, INDIANS, MOUNTAIN MEN, BANDITS, LAWMEN, & EVEN A LAWYER, THIS BOOK HAS IT ALL FOR A WESTERN
☆☆☆☆☆
Return of the Coyote (The Coyote Saga Book 2) by Ron Schwab is definitely a well written story of a man who is in love with a Sioux woman who a very strong and determined lady. Ethan Ramsey is a lawyer, rancher, ex-army scout, and a man with high morals and a drive for justice.
If you haven't read any of Ron Schwab's books or series, this is one that will keep you interested throughout with action-packed situations, characters which are easily followed, it's suspenseful, and even heartbreaking at times and you will truly enjoy this book and series.
The main characters, Ethan Ramsey and Skye DePaul are faced with a life and death situation one after the another not only to survive but to fulfill the vision of one of the Sioux Cheifs in the area of Lockwood, Wyoming in the late 1800's. If the vision comes true and they survive, they will save what's left of the small Sioux tribe and find love.
As a Western mystery thriller, this book has it all. I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys a great Western.
Quotes:
"It was strange how the seemingly insignificant decision of one person could innocently trigger a chain of events that would affect the lives of many."
"Many, perhaps well-intentioned, bureaucrats were simply incompetent when it came to managing the lives of other people."
"To many of those who were competent were dishonest and diverted government funds to unscrupulous contractors."
I am enjoying the “Coyote” series. Schwann has created great characters in Ethan and Skye and there exploits through the first and second books in the series have me anxious to start book 3.
This exciting sequel to Night of the Coyote is another superb western by Ron Schwab. Like Book 1, it's filled with mystery, suspense, danger, a touch of romance, and a surprising plot twist I never saw coming!
The story begins when Attorney Ethan Ramsey receives news that Skye dePaul's Sioux village has been destroyed by a murderous band of raiders. Hurrying to what remains of the village, Ethan learns that Skye was taken captive by the raiders. What could they possibly want from Skye, the daughter of a Sioux mother and a French trader?
Determined to save the woman he loves, Ethan arranges to move the survivors of the massacre to his ranch before he heads back into the mountains. Accompanied by a former buffalo soldier (Jeb Oaks), a young orphan boy (Running Fox), and a tough old mountain man (One Ball McLarty), Ethan faces formidable obstacles in his search for Skye.
Skye faces horrors of her own in the camp of her abductors. Their leader--a brute called Captain Quint--clearly intends to kill her, but not until she tells him where to find fifty thousand dollars worth of gold eagles that her father supposedly stole before he died. After Quint brutally whips her, Skye manages to escape with help from another captive woman called She-Bear. Ethan finds them, but the dangers are far from over, because Captain Quint and his band of outlaws are joined by a turncoat who'll stop at nothing to find and keep a hidden fortune in gold.
There's plenty of action and violence as the plot follows a deadly path to a final confrontation between the forces of good and evil at an abandoned trading post high in the mountains. Does the gold actually exist? If so, will anyone live long enough to find and claim it? And what becomes of the long-simmering love between Ethan and Skye? Be sure to read Book 2 in the thrilling Coyote Saga to find out!
Jeb Oaks a lawyer who represented a young Indian accused of murder of a white couple. Two young Indians were hanged because of this murder. As always, blame it on the Indians, the real killer was found by Jeb Oaks and Skye DePaul, who is half Lakota Sioux and White. This adventure points out how the Indians were treated, since the U.S. Government didn't consider Indians as citizens, they were considered as separate nations. This adventure also points out how the non-Indian population were considered savages. That was the sentiment of all white people, but it was the majority that felt all Indians were uneducated savages, and should be wiped out...genocide.. This is also a love story, Jeb Oaks, an attorney who the Lakotas called "Puma" who is highly thought of among the tribes..The coyote is the animal that represents Jeb, whenever he hears the call of the coyote, he feels a calmness that comes over him. The Indian is always attuned to Mother Earth and her children...This is a highly moving action series, that will keep you on your toes. Sometimes you'll feel that pain of having your family destroyed and nowhere to go for help of any kind. To think that you aren't a citizen when you were here before any of those who now occupy lands that have been your hunting grounds for centuries...still a GREAT GREAT SERIES EVERYONE...
WONDERFUL CHARACTERS, TERRIFIC STORY LINES. ONCE YOU START READING MR. SCHWAB'S BOOKS, IT'S VERY HARD TO PUT THEM DOWN UNTIL YOU FINISH THEM. THAT'S WHY i SOMETIMES READ ALL NIGHT .. THEN SLEEP TIL AT LEAST NOON. I AM A kINDLE UNLIMITED MEMBER AND I RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYBODY WHO REALLY LIKES TO TRANSPORT THEMSELVES INTO ANOTHER WORLD AND OTHER FOLKS LIVES. GOOD TIMES, BAD TIMES, WITH LEAD FLYING ALL OVER THE PLACE. KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN LOW!!! A good author can do this .. you feel like you are right there experiencing the gun fights, the fast draws, saloon brawls, and of course the 'soiled doves'. Take some time and go back into our amazing country when we were still new and growing. I'm into westerns at the present, and there are some outstanding western authors out there who will keep you enthralled from the first page to the last. When the books end, I want MORE, MORE, MORE!! Give yourself a treat and escape the modern world of today .. go back to when cattle were getting rustled, and building was hands on. And the men wore cowboy boots and Stetson hats, with guns tied down low, and didn't take no c--p from nobody!!
I read all three books in the Coyote Saga. I have been and continue to be impressed with Mr. Schwab’s story telling. He is excellent at what he does, from scene setting, to characters and their development, to historical accuracy and getting other perspectives of the story at just the right time. That’s why I’m giving the first two books five stars. The third and last book has all the same high qualities; but he jumps 50 years in the storyline and changes the main characters. What a huge and disappointing let-down, and why I’ve rated the third book in the “saga” with just a single star. While it was historically entertaining, the time jump didn’t qualify as a Western, by my definition.
It has been almost four years since I read the first installment of this series. It was good, not great. I decided that I needed to revisit the series when I saw a blurb on Facebook. As with the last one, the storyline was very good and all characters seemed to have a part to play, not just thrown in. But, like the last one, the ending seemed to be quick and a tad contrived. Everything worked out for everyone. I did like the mention of the "possible" Sioux/Cheyenne trouble in Wyoming and Montana because of Black Hills gold. A 4.4 out of 5 rating.
Ron's books are a pleasure to read. They are my 'relaxers'. The few twists make you smile. My favorite Western writer is Louis L. I have now found a co-favorite. After three books Ron has never disappointed me. I was so disappointed and saddened to read of his passing. I was looking forward to many more great westerns. But I will read all he wrote!
An interesting story following from the previous book in the series, Night of the Coyote. Although I enjoyed the story, it was not up to the standards of the authors I truly enjoy. The writing seems forced and contrived and lacks a fluid flow. Still, for a quick read of a western story, it was good.
Relationships are not always what they seem. The law wrangler gets caught up in search and rescue efforts and a shaky romance. Rugged treks through the mountains keep readers looking around the next bend in the trail for trouble. A heart-warming ending that leaves readers wanting more.
This book engrossed me more than the first book in the series. The life in the Wild West is extremely presented in a believable manner. The many characters are easy to follow and add substantial to the story. I' d recommend this ebook to anyone that loves the wild west.
I enjoyed "The Return of the Coyote" very much. The characters are well developed. The living is harsh, but the people are admirable and use their strength together to accomplish difficult but worthwhile goals. Although dealing with unscrupulous and violent adversaries, they never give up or give in. A good read.
Just finished Return of the Coyote & congratulations to author Ron Schwab for pinning the best suspenseful western mystery I have ever read! At times a felt I was actually living the story! The character development & locale were spot on! I am looking forward to book three in the trilogy & expect to be thrilled as much as I was with books one & two!
Mr. Schwab does not seen capable of telling a dull, uninteresting story. Each of his tales weaves a truly believeable, caring family accept story. Also, all of his stories tell of true, loving accepting family values. EVERYONE needs to read, cherish and absorb these values.
This book 2 is a great follow-on to Book 1. Just enough background that it can be read alone. The main story of Ethan & Skye helping those who cannot help themselves continues but adds a couple of new villains that are a battle until the end. Schwab delivers another great ending.
thoroughly enjoyed this book while I understand that it is fictional it has plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader interested. and it also shows some small bit of the injustices done to our native Americans.
Loved the tough grit of some characters. Not only people return from near death but the horses do the same. While this book wasn't quite as good as first it still kept me happy for the day. Thanks for another good tale.
This book could not put down. The Search for the women taken. Taking care of the scoundrels. All of this and seeing to the fulfillment of the dream. This kept me turning the pages as fast as could. You will enjoy this read.
She is way too much work for this wrangler cowboy but at least he finally gets some nookie and his reward is two bullets and a lot of gold. Heck I still love this book.
Even though I somehow read the third book before starting this series I have not been disappointed in the slightest. The storyline is strong and well written. My only disappointment is that I have now finished the series. I could use more.
It makes the old west seem to have some honest charcrers. I'm not sure that there were any during the time period of this story but hopefully it was more fact than fiction. An excellent story and fully enjoyable.
This was an excellent story full of a tion and mystery. Leaping from one catastrophic event to another. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys adventure, action and intrique.
Won a Goodreads giveaway. Interesting read. I'll have to go back and read the first book in this series, as this one did not give me enough to really care about the characters. But I did like it.
