EXCERPT:
The old woman lifted her lantern, the dim glow flickering off the Spanish moss that trailed from the dark branches above her head.
Somewhere in the far reaches of the bayou, an animal called out. An animal whose pain echoed her own.
Sinking to her knees on the damp ground, she threw back her head and gave voice to her anguish. It was all over now. Her only son, her beloved son, was condemned to die. For a crime she knew he could not have committed. He had made mistakes. She had warned him of the consequences, but never in her wildest imagination had she thought it would come to this.
She let her tears flow then. Tears of anger and regret. And when the storm of weeping finally subsided, she gathered her strength for what she must do. From the pocket of her long skirt, she pulled the bandanna with the objects. The pen. The paper cup. The metal tack.
Spreading the cloth on the ground, she stared at the tokens she had stolen. None was of material value. But they held the power she needed. For each belonged to one of the people she was going to curse tonight.
With bony fingers, she touched each object in turn, calling on her inner strength, summoning the dark powers she had learned to control long ago.
For she had the Romany gift of turning the tables on her enemies. She’d done it since she was a child. For small offenses and large, yet never anything so large as this.
Her enemies had taken her most precious possession—her son. He was lost to her now. Lost by trickery and deceit. But the three people who had cut out her heart would pay in kind. They would feel the pain she had felt. For they each had a son: Wyatt Boudreaux, Garner Rousseau, and Andrei Sobatka. Each would suffer a fate worse than death. A fate that would follow him till the end of his days.
In a low voice she began to chant the ancient words of her people, weaving in a curse for each man as she conjured up his face.
Her hand clenched the pen. “Justice is blind,” she whispered, then joined the curse with the name of Wyatt Boudreaux.
“Love is death,” she intoned as she crumpled the paper cup in her hand and said the name of Garner Rousseau.
Finally she picked up the tack, her finger caressing the cold metal as she said, “The law is impotent,” then linked the name with Andrei Sobatka.

Her first book, a kids' science fiction book, was finally purchased by Scholastic Inc..
Since then, Glick has become a highly successful author of over 50 romantic suspense and paranormal novels. This is the first book in the Gypsy Magic trilogy. A gypsy's son is lost to her due to his being convicted of murder. She believes he is innocent so she curses the sons of the men who put her son in jail. It's a good start to the series, my only issue with it is that the authors use quite a few stereotypes of the Romani. It's a good traditional paranormal thriller romance in spite of that.
I’ll be blunt upfront. I’m not a huge fan of serials, I do not like cliffhangers. Hey, every reader has their own enjoyment levels. Yet, recently there have been more of a different style of serial on the market. Ones that end with a “happy for now” with an overarching thread that runs throughout all of the stories within the serial. That type I can enjoy. I need somewhat of an ending, at least to each part of a serial – and in the Gypsy Magic serial I’ve gotten that. To get the entire scope of the story, as well as all the answers I’ll need to read all three parts. That I can do, that’s more similar to a series and I’ve already admitted my series addiction. So here we go:
One mystery, a gypsy’s curse, three men who will face her wrath and the three women who will stand by their men as they search for answers to a murder. The true answers, not what everyone believes.
Wyatt and Alessandra’s romance is intense with a few surprises tossed in as they face each other once again. The past wasn’t so far away that their reaction to each other was completely wiped out. But stubborn people are well too stubborn for their own good.
Wyatt gets Gypsy Magic off to a great start. Magic, murder, mystery and passion. Quite the explosive combination, but I’ve come to expect the unexpected from Rebecca York. Each story has it’s own happy for now ending and leads us into the next – which I’m about to go pick up now. If you enjoy a good mystery with touches of the unusual, then Wyatt is right up your dark alley.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Although not a fan of magic and the like I was really attracted by the story behind the curse. In this book the stage is set for the mystery of who killed the senator's wife if it was not Carlo Mustov who has been accused as a gypsy and was a convenient scapegoat. Wyatt is the son of the detective who did the research into the crime and is thus cursed by the words 'justice is blind' and is unable to see. I loved the way this changed during the book. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel and this series. I received the book from Netgalley and the publisher. This is my voluntary review.
Wyatt is investigating the truth about a murder and reconnects with Alessandra who thinks his family is at fault. This is part of a series being the first with gypsy curses and the story winds throughout the 3 books to an ending. Enjoyed the setting and mystery along with the characters.
Ebook from Net Galley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
Although I am a fan of paranormal stories, magic isn't one of the things that I have been interested in, until this series. I was intrigued by the synopsis, and very happy that I wouldn't have to wait for each book, since they were all released on the same day. That was a huge plus for me, and one of the reasons why I decided to try this series, and I am glad that I did.
This is about a murder that happened 10 years ago, a gypsy who was devastated when her only son was convicted of the murder, and the curses that she cast upon those who she felt responsible for it all. The curses are actually aimed at the son's of those who were involved with the conviction, none of which had anything to do with it. This is also about a second chance romance, between two people who not only live different life styles, but are on opposite sides where the conviction is concerned, until they decide that it's time to finally find out the truth once and for all.
This is a great beginning to this exciting new series, and I can't wait to read the next book. Although each story has it's own HEA for the couple, you must read all three books in order to get the entire story regarding the murder. I really appreciate that this was revealed by the authors in the synopsis, and not something that would be revealed at the end of the first book.
I strongly recommend this book, series, and all of the fantastic authors involved!
The first installment in the Gypsy Magic Serial is Wyatt by Rebecca York. It is an intriguing start to the serial, hooking you in so you want to read them all. After reading this one I purchased the other two even though they are by different authors. Each book concerns different characters but have the overall theme of finding a killer. Each of the main characters have a curse on them but it does not stop them from getting the job done.
Part one is Wyatt Boudreaux’s story. The action and romance quickly build since it is novella in size. It was an engrossing reading that can easily be read in one evening. It has Rebecca York’s fine style of writing that develops the characters, flaws and all to the reader while insuring that they are likable just the same. Wyatt and Alessandra do get their HEA but the killer is not caught.
One of the best parts of this serial is all three stories were released at the same time for a nominal cost. No need to wait to read the next installment, I liked that a lot. How long that will last, I can’t say but the $.99 that I paid for each to find out who is the guilty party while enjoying Garner Rousseau, and Andrei Sobatka’s stories is well worth the price.
An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.
I love the authors Decorah series so I was intrigued to read this story.
When the son of a Gypsy has been found guilty of a crime she does not believe he committed, she curses the sons of those involved.
Fast forward a few years and Wyatt, son of the lead detective, has had to leave the police force after being blinded after being shot in the head. He is carrying out his gathers last wish to make sure that the conviction is solid and the execution of Carlo can proceed. This is further complicated by his short romance with Alessandra, cousin of Carlo. It ended badly when she discovered who he was.
But when Wyatt and then Alessandra are targeted by a mysterious attacker they work together to unearth evidence that may just absolve Carlo.
Whilst this doesn't have a HEA, it does end with a happy for now. As the other stories in the trilogy unfold I believe that each couple's HEA will unfold. I did enjoy Wyatt's story and it was a different read. I would definitely read the others in the trilogy.

The old woman had lost her son thru treachery and deceit, and now will lay a curse on the three that did this evil. Justice is blind on Wyatt..Love is death on Garner and the Law is important with Andre name. Wyatt at the command of his father to come see him. Dropping his cane he stubbles into the fortune tellers tent, a flash of light, her voice. They had spent six weeks, he asked for a palm reading, again the light, but her reply was “you bastard”. It has to do with the case of Carlo, his father wants it wrapped up. All the old feelings came , but she knew he was in danger. To tell her people he is there to investigate the case of Carlos, for her, and to reassure them what his father had done on the case. The case of the senator’s wife being killed. Good in-depth plot that goes on to the second book, The characters are good, you sense the pain, and feelings they had before.
Wyatt is book 1 of the Gypsy Magic series by authors Rebecca York, Ann Voss Peterson & Patricia Rosemoor. I really enjoyed this book, the concept of the storyline was well conveyed and I loved the characters. I look forward to reading the next two books in this series.
