Whether we awaken to the spray of an ocean wave, the wind blowing from the desert, or snowflakes dusting the trees, we are part of something truly magnificent. Whether we live in China, Algeria, Russia, or Canada, whether we work in the fields, the waterways, the mountains or the cities, we all share one world. Through a young boy's eyes, we visit children from many cultures; flying kites in Japan, swinging through the jungles of Costa Rica, playing the didgeridoo in Australia.... "You and I can dream one dream. We share one world let's live in peace."
This is a great book for introducing the idea of diversity. I particularly liked how on each page, there was a map in the corner showing where on a map the culture/country was. This could be a great way to get kids interested in different cultures and geography.
2004. Concept 3. Read aloud or introduction to section/discussion, would also be a good book forthe first week of school. About environment and getting along. Picture book of many different places.
What an adventure in a book! This book is a great one for showing children that we should all work together in the world that we share. Acceptance is a very important way of life for young children to learn and this book is one to portray the differences that we all have, but we all do and feel the same things. Young children developmentally feel that everything is all about them, and this book can open up their eyes. I truly enjoyed this book and I would read it to any age elementary children, especially younger when it is important to teach children how to maintain a friendship and care for others.
This is a very simple book. Each page basically has one sentence on it so it would be an easy read for young readers. The story follows a young boy as he visits different places in the world showing that no matter where we live in the world we still experience that same things. At the end, it explains that we should live in peace. This would be a good book to use to explain that we are all equal and that where we are from, look like, or act like does not change the fact that we all live in one, same world.
This beautifully illustrated story does a fantastic job of portraying to children that we all inhabit the same planet, and we all need to work together to coexist! Friendship knows no skin color, no exclusive corner of the earth. Together we live, together we love!
