The Royal Tutor is a slice of life, comedy manga about a tutor and the adventures he gets caught up in with the 4 princes he teaches. Being such a character driven series, the dynamic cast and established world will keep you turning the page! Vol. 3 gets even more interesting with some new character intros and secrets that get revealed. Truly a hidden gem in manga!
After recently hearing the manga will be ending soon (*sob), I felt so inspired to pick this series back up, it truly is a manga I feel has really gone under the radar...please pick up this series if you enjoy comedy, historical settings, and idiot (princes) with hearts of gold!! The joy of TRT is really seeing the dynamics between the cast of characters, them growing, and learning more along the way.

It was fun being back in this world again following the princes and Heine on more adventures, which leads to: a picnic (with Kai's fiancee), the princes helping their little sister Adele, and learning more about Prince Licht's secret job outside of the royal palace. There's also a surprising introduction to a mysterious count who is sure to bring a bit more chaos to this story later on...I'm so scared for these precious princes...

I just love the theme of family that's present with each volume whether its seeing the princes work together or even seeing the King become involved in their lives during their studies/adventures. Its such a vital theme of this series and I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves in future volumes.

While Prince Leo is still hesitant about studying, Heine teaches him why its so important and how even his father the King had to learn to improve over time, that comes back around in the last few chapters when seeing Licht work at a cafe and I appreciated seeing that central idea carry on throughout the various stories.

Some of my favorite moments included seeing Beatrix get a flower crown from Kai, seeing the princes comfort Adele, Licht's entire cafe story arc, and being introduced to a mysterious Count of the kingdom!

There's nothing I can particularly disliked, it just felt like I'm stuck between 4 and 4.5 stars at the moment, [perhaps just Adele's chapter, idk] This series is HONESTLY such a joy to read and I'm always left with a smile on my face after finishing each volume...seeing these kind, precious princes continue their journeys to prepare for the throne never has a dull moment.

I'm slowly making my way through this series because although Volume 3 surprised me, I know once I carry on there will just be a lot of emotions knowing the series ends at 16(?), so it will feel bittersweet because this series really has a special place in my heart! Seeing the princes grow, learning more about these characters, and their world is so much fun!

The Royal Tutor Vol. 3 continues with the adventures of the 4 princes and Heine, their tutor. With more of a focus on various royal duties and obligations, this is definitely a more plot-driven volume, however the characters truly make this series a treat! A fantastic continuation to a unique, comedic manga, looking forward to seeing what happens next!

War ein Reread und ich habe es wieder geliebt! Die Geschichte rund um den Prinzen und ihren Lehrer ist super unterhaltsam, regt aber auch zum Nachdenken an. Außerdem ist es auch sehr hübsch gezeichnet ;)

I love learning more about the princes. So far what I've learned about Licht makes him my favourite but I cannot wait for that to change. Once I started this I could not stop till it was done. Funny, light hearted just great

My favourite prince is on the cover, and I couldn't be more stoked about it! Favourite series...favourite character, a match made in heaven! I partially knew what to expect from this volume because I watched the anime, but we're really starting to get more and more content that wasn't included in the anime, which is what I'm excited to see!

As we start the volume, pretty much all of it is new material we haven't seen before except for the last couple of chapters. We get to meet a new character, Bellatrix, she's the Prince's cousin and she's freaking awesome! She doesn't really do dresses, and she was so damn relatable I was rooting for her! In the anime we focused on the Prince's and their relationships with Heine, but in the manga it looks like we're going deeper in to the Prince's characters and their relationships with other people, as Bellatrix is Kai's betrothed.

I was a bit skeptical at first but by the end of the chapter I was shipping it so hard it's not even funny. Bellatrix just cracked me up, describing the Prince's when they where younger, poor old Leonhard being called the 'little half-wit'. Bellatrix and her relationship with Kai adds a smidge of romance, but it's not heavy at all. The situation Bellatrix is in was oddly relatable as you could empathise with her feelings and insecurities. I'm really hoping we get to see more of her! I'm intrigued to see her interact with Kai a bit more. I can't decide if he's as oblivious as he appears.

We get to see some more of Adele in this volume too, and there where some really sweet scenes with her and her brothers! It's nice to see them interact with their younger sister. They stop their bickering for five minutes. The whole situation really did have me chuckling away though, amid wanting to smack Bruno and Leonhard.

Towards the end of the volume we stray in to familiar territory, as we hit the cafe arc that we saw in the anime. It's largely the same as the anime from what I remember, but there's some deeper insight in to both Licht and the King that's not present in the anime. I really felt for Licht, I got where he was coming from, and we just saw more of how he felt about everything than the anime.

Volume 3 is packed with new scenes that show the Prince's in a different light and help us get to know them more. With each new volume we're getting more and more scenes and they're providing more and more insight, and the Prince's are still growing and changing. If you watched the anime the Prince's developed quite a lot but the manga makes it clear they still have a way to go! The shady Count makes his appearance too so you know things are about to go downhill fast!

This is genuinely one of my favourite manga series, it's just so much fun! There's humour and heart to it, and as we get more volumes with new content, you get more and more excited! Like...I'm excited anyway, but I also know what's coming a little bit, so I look forward to being surprised by the new content...if that makes sense!

I liked that Licht was given more of a personality and not just a boy chasing after women non-stop. Also the introduction of a sort of villain gives more to the series. I like that at least so far he doesn't seem evil as much as conniving because I do like the light heartedness of this series.

In Summary

A new character, and a female one at that! Prince Kai’s boyish fiancee joins the cast and provides a bit of random background on the royal family. The betrothal fun continues with a pretend engagement between Heine and Princess Adele before the narrative dives into a longer arc about Licht. While most of the story just seems to be an excuse to have Licht and Viktor in a cafe setting, it does introduce a new sinister element to the plot with the meddling of the Count.

The Review

For those familiar with the anime, half of Volume 3 is material that was not included in the TV series. If you are a fan of Prince Kai, you will want to pick up this volume for Chapter 13 alone. Up till now, the only females in the bishounen-heavy cast have been the princes’ grandmother and 3-year-old sister. Now we get one more: Beatrix Von Lothringen, a cousin—and Kai’s betrothed.

She’s a bit of a surprise since none of the royals have mentioned anything about engagements, but it does make sense for princes to have arranged marriages. Beatrix, though, is more than just a fiancée. Having been raised with the princes, she treats them like an older sister, and Kai’s sharp glance doesn’t intimidate her at all. Rather, she feels affection for Kai and somewhat inadequate as a woman (did I mention she cross-dresses?). Chapter 13 is her attempt at a romantic picnic with Kai, but her efforts get thwarted one after another in comic fashion. It doesn’t help that fluff-obsessed Kai isn’t exactly the sort to drop sweet nothings into a lady’s ear. However, the chapter does conclude with a swoon-worthy illustration of the two that made my heart skip a beat.

The story then shifts to a chapter about Leonhard’s woeful academics, which to be honest is starting to get old, before returning to the subject of marriage. This time the focus is teensy sister Adele, who’s just had the realization she’s to be sent to a foreign land to be married one day. A pretend engagement with Heine results, and in addition to the brothers’ varied reactions at the thought of their tutor as brother in-law, the mangaka serves up adorable pictures of Adele and Heine. Because even though Heine’s an adult, he still looks like a kid, and visually speaking, Adele matches up with him pretty well. We also get the first mention of the royal brood’s mother in this chapter. However, it remains unclear where Mom is and what happened to her.

The narrative then matches up with the anime once again with Heine chancing upon Licht waiting tables at Cafe Mitter Meyer. While the idea of Licht having a part-time job seems a flimsy excuse for the mangaka to draw bishounen in waiter uniforms (though admittedly, they look quite dashing), it does add depth to our playboy character. More importantly, we get the introduction of “The Count.” Until now, the princes haven’t had enemies other than their own personality quirks, but the addition of an outside adversary should put more backbone to the plot.

Extras include comics printed on the inside of the back cover flap; a two-page bonus manga; first page printed in color; and translation notes.

Wow, three volumes in and we're already getting glimpses of the main antagonist of this series? Damn, that's...fast. I can't say I'm terribly thrilled with that, primarily because this has been a laid-back, slice of life series and now all of a sudden we have a threat on our hands. But I think the biggest problem I have is that, in my opinion, we haven't had enough time to truly understand each character and their struggles (it's been pretty superficial stuff so far) so throwing in a huge threat so early on seems unnecessary. I feel like there'd enough conflict with the princes' studies that an antagonist isn't necessary this early on. Hopefully it'll stick to the slice of life parts more and just have a looming threat in the background since that is it's strong suit. Anyway, still a light, fun read.

I'm still really enjoying this series.🤩 I like that going see that there's more to the princes that meets the eye. I think this is the book that reminded me of the time range this story is set in because Kai is betrothed to his cousin 🤢 but I try not to think about it too much. I liked that Licht enjoys helping people in a cafe he's not just a sneaker playboy but lil more. Also the scene where the king helped him in the cafe and he hot to one knee declaring his service to a girl customer 😍 I gained the BIGGEST crush on this fictional character! That was so hot & sweet @ the same time💕🥰. Also love that the king is such a loving father too. I have a crush on him & Kai (the intimating sweetie pie/ the 2nd oldest).💓💓💓💓💓😍

We are now venturing out of the realm of the anime and learning more details that wasnt in the show. It's is astounding to find more reasons to love this series as the volumes continues.

We are introduce to a new character that wasn't in the show. Since the anime centered around the Prince relationship with their tutor. We got more indepth on their individual personalities in the Manga and got to know more of their adorable little sister.

I am very please with how much fun, hilarious moment there is in this volume with a hint of something deeper.

Can't wait to see what comes next

A surprisingly sex joke free volume in this series.

Sex? No and no sexual references that I can remember

Swearing/Profanity? Not that I can remember

Violence? No

Magic? No

LGBTQ + characters? Not specified.

Could a conservative Christian school library include it?

Yeah sure, this volume they could. But since you would have to add #1 & 2 first and those contain sexy jokes probably not.

This was a good volume. I liked the stories (episodes/chapters) contained within. They had a good plot but I also like that towards the end of the volume we were starting to get into a bigger plot line. I look forward to seeing where that will lead.
The illustrations continue to be good. I continue to enjoy the characters and their growth. I find them to be quite amusing. Good story over all and I am really enjoying the series so far.

First of all the cover is amazing. It's great that the Manga has some more stories than the Anime for example about the princess, Heine's day off or what I liked the most prince Kai's fiance. I also loved the storyline about Licht's job. He's even more likeable in this volume.
