Becoming another favourite series of mine.

This is the third in this series and I'm starting to look forward to them just as much as the Justice Series by the same Author. Although this is the third book, it can also be read as a stand alone but if you are like me and prefer to read them in sequence, then you will love them all.

This book finds DI Hero being called to a double murder where he discovers they are both Police Officers and one is a friend of his. This is then followed by another murder and robbery of a Post Office. Will Hero be able to catch the murderer before more lives are lost?

Another great read by a brilliant Author and I really do not know how she does it. Again you are in for a real treat with the exciting plot and characters that get under your skin. It's fast paced and full of action which had me on the edge of my seat unable to put it down and at times I found myself holding my breath due to the suspense.
The more books I read from this Author, the more she reminds of a very well known Author (James Patterson,) who I love too. This is why I give this 5* for another great read.

Having only discovered this wonderful author in recent years and I am finding it difficult to read all the previous books as Mel Comley sure is a master in keeping her fans busy with new novels (I don’t think she sleeps) So as this is my first in the Hero series, it can definitely be read as a standalone book.

In Plain Sight is a fast paced and action packed thriller with loads of suspense. DI Hero Nelson and his team are on the hunt for an evil killer who kills for pleasure and is targeting post offices and police officers.

Another fantastic and gripping series for me to follow and I look forward to book four.

I’ve been a fan of this author for a few years now having discovered her through her “Justice” series. I have loved following that series and also the books she has co-written with Tara Lyons and Linda Prather. But I have to admit I hadn’t actually heard of the Hero series before I read this one which is actually the third in the series! I didn’t feel as though I was missing out on anything though (apart from maybe a few backstories) as it worked as a standalone rather well!

Hero Nelson……what a great name for this police detective! But what a job he has on his hands with this latest case as the deaths of two police officers seem to be as a result of a personal grudge. And as the body count increases Hero has to act fast as this vile murderer now has two hostages with him but unfortunately for them, zero compassion.

This was a gritty, Manchester based crime drama full of fast paced action and intense, pressurised situations that really made you sit up and wonder “what would I do?” But as usual, Mel’s strength is in creating likeable and realistic characters that you are rooting for-except for those vile and nasty antagonists that she conjures up with her warped imagination! A natural born storyteller, she drags you into the action from those first few shockingly graphic pages and you won’t be able to put it down until the end-just make sure you have the kettle boiled for a nice calming cuppa when you get there! If you love Mel’s Justice series then give Hero a go! I’m sure you’ll love him as much as I did!

In Plain Sight is the third novel in the Hero crime series. It works very well as a stand alone though I would like to get to know Hero better and will be getting the others in the series to read.

Hero is such a great name and I couldn’t think of a better named person being a DI. Certainly solving crimes in a way makes him just that, a hero. He does have a good team that work along side him so to be fair it is very much a team effort.

A story line with police officers being killed while on duty was certainly a harrowing one. I have to admit that this is one part of working in the police force I would absolutely hate, having to inform a loved one of a death. I really couldn’t think of anything worse and my heart was breaking along with the officers families. Also we forget about the big impact their deaths have on their colleagues and this is shown in the story.

In Plain Sight is without a doubt a gripping read with characters that really care about their job and the victims of the crimes. It’s one that can easily be devoured in one sitting and will have you wanting more.

My thanks to Bloodhound Books for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

In Plain Sight.
Book 3 in the Hero series.
I don't know how she does it but the books just get better each time.
Set in Manchester the bad guy is leaving a a lot of disruption and death behind him. He also changes style after a crime is committed. You'll be grabbed from page 1 and carry to the very end.

I am a big fan of the Hero books, and In Plain Sight is a fab addition to the series.

The tag line, no one is safe - not even the police, is a worrying one and definitely drew me in. I was on the edge of my seat, wondering if Hero would be safe. I could really feel the detectives' frustration about the lack of clues and evidence to help them find the culprit.

While the book can easily be read as a standalone, why would you want to? Hero Nelson is a great character, and his backstory only adds to his strong personality.

In Plain Sight is a gritty crime story, set in Manchester, and police procedural fans will thoroughly enjoy it. After all, #EveryoneNeedsAHero

Didn't realise until I started this book just how much I'd missed Hero and his team.
Not for the faint hearted but a fantastic read, very hard to put down as you become so desperate to find out why so many cops and post masters are being killed by the same person.
Yet again the author serves us up another great book.

Another stunning book from this wonderful author. Hero is fast becoming one of my favourite characters - he's a hunk. This story had me on the edge of my seat, desperate for an outcome but at the same time not wanting it to end. I even shed a couple of unexpected tears at the end which is unusual for me. Well done Mel, this is a stonking good read.

In this story we find DI Hero and his team facing an evil killer, he kills innocent people for no reason. The first of several police officers killed is a friend of Hero's from the TA, this now makes it personal. When the killer takes two young people hostages his boss brings in another team of police officers to help catch the killer, at first Hero does not appreciate the help, but together the two teams get a result.

Set in Manchester, the reader is faced with loss, blame, revenge and justice.

What I loved about this book was the rapid pace of the plot which kept me glued to my seat wanting to know more! It is all Go! Go! Go! once the #KillerHook is injected and the author is very clever in introducing the reader to the killer from the get go, without revealing the motives for the crimes themselves. I loved this storyline! I have no idea where MA Comley stores all these fantastic ideas, but I am thrilled she does and delivers each in her novels in such a way that not only do I enjoy the novel, I also quickly become addicted to the series!

As with her story-lines, MA Comley’s brain must be buzzing with all the characters she has talking to her! For me, a novel needs to have strong characters with a distinctive voice – that is what draws me in and keeps me reading. Well OMFG – I am LOVING #DIHeroNelson! What a name, what a character! A family man and dedicated police officer, Hero is the type of guy you want watching your back! And as nice, strong willed and determined that he is, he is not one to be under-estimated – I think there is so much more to this character to come up and I am so excited for the next in the series just to find out more! DS Julie Shaw slightly annoyed me – and this is not a bad thing as it shows the characters realism, they get under my skin! She had a strange awkwardness about her and there was definitely some tension between her and Hero that made for some interesting banter between the two. Although I won’t name the baddie (we do learn who it is from the start), I will say that this one enjoys causing others pain, feels they are invincible and carries a major grudge. They get a massive adrenaline rush from toying with the police and do not seem to care about the fact that they are leading the police right to them – is this the plan all along? You will have to read the book to find out!

Fiinally, I really enjoyed the mix of fact and fiction in the story – whether intentional or not, I recognised a few crimes from news stories or maybe it is just because I work in the criminal justice system and there is a pattern / similarity between a lot of the crimes I come across. Either way, it worked and I loved it! The novel wraps up nicely and was a quick read for me – so GOOD, I just did not want to put it down! ….and I wanted more….

Do I recommend this novel? Hell Yeah, I do! Easily read as a stand alone, the series itself is superb- so why not read it in order! For a copy of this all consuming, roller coaster of a ride novel…head to amazon stat!

Here I am again jumping head into a book because I love the cover so much. But unknown to me, for some strange reason I had no idea this book is the third in a series. Yes it works well has a standalone but part of me feels like I was missing something because I have yet to read the first two in this series. Which without a doubt I will be doing because I really enjoyed this book. And want to get to know Hero more.

This story starts off with one action packed opening with a police car chase. Wowsers.. The characters voices totally got inside my head making me feel like.I actually I was in the car with them. Mel certainly knows how to make you feel part of the story that's for sure.

DI Hero soon discovers victims at the crime scene are police officers one being a good friend. Imagine having to tell the family this tragic news?! Hero asks the public for help in his hunt to track down the killer. Which he soon regrets when the criminal starts taking Hostages. Can Hero and the police catch the murderer before more innocent victims are hurt?

This is one fast paced story with plenty of tension which I couldn't put down. In fact I read this in one afternoon. It is definitely a page turner and kept me on the edge of my sit. Which I highly recommend this book giving it 4 stars.

Most people have come across Mel Comley’s writing through the Justice series but I’m different. It was Hero Nelson (unlike many) who introduced me to Ms Comley’s writing so he has a soft spot in my reading heart.

The Hero books are darker and more violent in my humble opinion than the Justice series and the author’s other solo crime series featuring DI Sally Parker.

In Plain Sight, similarly to Torn Apart the first in the Hero series, starts in a very shocking violent (there’s that word again) way and doesn’t stop there. Our perpetrator is one messed up individual toying with the Manchester Police, winding our Hero up at a time when emotions are high. Will the team catch this evil soul before he reeks more havoc?!

I have enjoyed all of the author’s books I’ve read so far, no I’ve not read them all but all the ones I’ve read have been addictive. I really haven’t wanted to put them down and In Plain Sight was no different. I read it in only a few hours, desperately wanting to keep up with the chase around the suburbs of Manchester.

If you haven’t read of the Hero Nelson books before and like your police procedurals dark and fast paced, you can not go wrong with this series. You’ve only got three to catch up one before the next one is out.
Huge thanks to Mel Comley for kindly sending me an e-copy of In Plain Sight

I have read a few of this authors books. But not this series so this one I jumped right into.

Apart from maybe more background as regards Hero I didn't feel that lost within the story.

Hero seems a sensitive soul who has a big heart, but, he's also a determined man when needs are a must.

When there's a killer on the loose and his men are going down it's a heartbreaking harrowing time for the Police force.
Colleagues are dead.
Time is running out.

What is going to be the conclusion to this? Are more officers going to die?

Hero by name, Hero by nature. But he doesn't work alone.

Having to tell loved ones that their partner son or daughter is dead is an heartbreaking thing to do.
I felt every single emotion.

This author writes with sensitivity and style.

My thanks to Bloodhound books in providing me with my copy.

Quick action in this story as police officers lives are taken..

Fast paced story with great characters and plots, as a disgruntled young man causes crimes of increasing intensity due to his heartache after his wife was killed. He changes his style after kidnappings a young women and man, using fear to make them commit crimes for him. This story drags you in immediately and does not let up until the last word!

I kind of picked this one at random. Not that it would have mattered. Comley's books rate quite highly and I'm not sure why. She seems to churn them out and they seem quite formulaic as a result.

This was a competent police procedural thriller which had decent pace and drama but nothing to make it stand out from the absolute plethora of books in this genre. A quick, short, light read and entirely forgettable.

None stop action that will keep you turning pages all the way to the end! A perfect read for thriller/crime lovers.

It was great to see Hero in action again, and this time he's up against a sadistic killer without a single clue who is constantly changing his MO. But one thing becomes perfectly clear from the very first killings--no one is safe as long as this guy is free, especially the police force. With the loss of personal friends and fellow officers, Hero buries his grief and ups his determination to find the man responsible.

Every killer has an end game. Can Hero stop him before he plays his final card?

Highly recommended to all thriller readers who love a fast paced, action filled crime novel. Great characterization and a believable plot. This is the 3rd installment to the Hero series, but it can easily be read alone, although I recommend you also read the first two.

In Plain Sight is my first M. A. Comley book and I have been really looking forward to picking one of her books up as I have heard nothing but good things about her writing.

In Plain Sight is the third book in the Hero series, but can 100% definitely be read as a stand alone. There is plenty of character development in this story to feel comfortable enough picking the series up here.

This book is not a who dunnit, but a why dunnit and we meet the killer almost immediately and then get to know him throughout the book. The character is terrifying in the fact that he just doesn't care and will kill without prejudice and seems to get a thrill from other peoples pain. The fact that he targets the police too as they are the ones who are supposed to protect us but if they can't protect themselves, how can we hope for them to protect us?

The story was fast paced and you have to keep reading to see what the killer will come up with next. I kept telling myself just one more page, but that was never the case.

I really enjoyed the representation of the Territorial Army and some of the work they do, I have no real idea of what they do apart from training, so it was good for me to have a peek into their world.

Hero Nelson is the main character of In Plain Sight (and the series) and he seems to be a great family man who quite clearly loves his wife and kids and he works extremely hard to solve cases and a is good guy to work with...however I just didn't gel with him and I had no real connection with him like I have with other Detectives. I have no idea why and it didn't affect my enjoyment of reading In Plain Sight, but I couldn't bond with him.

Overall an absolutely brilliant book and I'm excited to go through M. A. Comley's other books now so I can catch up with her work.

Author Mel Comley has brought DI Hero Nelson back to her readers in another fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat thriller. Though third in the series, this book can very well be read as a standalone.

When Hero is called to a double homicide scene, he's shocked to discover that the victims are two fellow police officers, one of whom a close friend of his. The officers were killed in cold blood on the road while on duty. This horrific event is immediately followed by a murder and robbery at a local post office. The postmaster's murder shows clear signs of a very sick mind running loose in town. What's happening? Was this the deed of the same killer who murdered the police officers? When the number of post-office murders increases very rapidly, Hero and his team find themselves on a race against time to track down this madman before more innocent people are killed. But before this could happen, the killer plays his final card and this gives the case a whole new dimension...

WOW! What a tension-packed explosive book this is. Mel Comley never disappoints but with this one she truly excels. I wonder how the author manages to pack in so much action, drama and suspense in one book. The plot is twisty and clever with several terrifying, heart-pumping scenes that made me wince and bite my knuckles. I found myself frantically swiping my kindle as I wanted to know if and how Hero will manage to capture the killer. Reading some of the scenes I wished I could grab this cruel, sadistic killer and throttle him with my own bare hands.

This book kept me on edge throughout and I ended up devouring it in just one sitting. The author has once again awarded her readers with non-stop action, intrigue and suspense, all together in another great instalment that's guaranteed to keep every thriller lover entertained from start to finish. Well done! Highly recommended!

With thanks to the author for an ARC of this book which I voluntarily accepted to read and review.

Detective Inspector Hero Nelson has his work cut out for him when a serial killer targets the Police Force at random – leaving a bloody trail to be followed

— Introduction —

Detective Inspector Hero Nelson is back in what could perhaps be the most difficult case of his career! As this is my first Hero novel, it is an educated guess since the Police are targeted by a psychopath who gets a kick out of making people suffer before slaughtering them. The case is all the more haunting to Hero Nelson as this comes close to home. Bob Myers is not your usual suspect as he does not care whether he is seen on CCTV footage – he is hiding in plain sight.

— Storyline —

A police car is in pursuit of a car. If the two policemen concerned knew the man they are following, Bob Myers, was on a mission to kill, they would have called in for assistance. For them, it is too late. For the rest of the Police force, the case of the sadistic serial killer has just begun. When Hero examines the scene he is appalled not only by the viciousness of the attack on the two police officers, but also because the two dead men are known as colleagues and friends both to him and his partner Julie Shaw. Although Julie is Hero’s partner, he feels he is on thin ice with her every time he makes a remark. This is the last thing Hero needs when they are under such pressure. A local postmaster has been found murdered and the perpetrator has already moved on to his next victims, obviously enjoying the torture he inflicts before murdering them. Who is the psychopath and what is his motive? The police are looking for clues but we are witness to Bob Myers’s thoughts and, believe me, they are neither comforting nor peaceful. A brutal and vengeful psychopath with a shotgun is on the loose – Hero needs all the help he can get!

— My Thoughts —

This is the first book featuring Hero Nelson I read and boy, I love him! Even if he reprimands his wife for stating the obvious (!) and can be a bit of a Mr Grumpy sometimes, he has all the qualities that make him a … hero! Do not blame me for this word play, blame Hero’s mother for naming her son something he supposedly his whole life has to live up to! To be honest, I could not feel much empathy for his partner Julie Shaw, even if she had her issues. The author gives us a scary insight into the mind of a very disturbed man who gets off on torturing and killing people. Even if there was a reason behind it all, still it seems the darker side of Bob Myers has always been a part of him struggling to surface and to start down its destructive spiral. This has a true-to-life feel with the diverse characters of the team and the intriguing, yet disturbing fact that the Police have no idea where to look for their killer. In Plain Sight is a fast-paced and captivating thriller and a great read!

It is no secret at all that I am a huge fan of this amazing author. Her writing is first class, I just can't help but wonder how the hell Mel keeps coming up with these stories and Idea's and each one just gets better and better.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and flew through it in no time. Wanting and needing to keep reading, this book will certainly hold your attention and keep you up all night until you finish it.
Hero Nelson book 3, I'm really liking Hero, I have to say sometimes when I love an authors series and they do another on, I do sometimes wonder if I will like it as much, but this one has certainly confirmed it's possible to write more than one series of books. I always enjoy books when they are based in and around Manchester, I love it when I can actually see in my mind the places that are featured. I always find it adds to making the books feel more real.

This book starts off with a bang, literally. A killer is out there, and he needs catching, he needs catching real quick. He has killed 2 serving police officers when Hero is set the task of finding the killer, its a race against time before the body count starts to build. Can Hero and his team work miracles, because they are going to have to, to catch this evil killer.
It's personal for Hero, not only is one of the men killed a serving officer, he's also part of Hero's TA team. But when the Killer takes a hostage then Hero and his team really need to up their game.

A fantastic read, and any fans of crime will love this one.

DI Hero Nelson heads the murder investigation team in Manchester, with his partner DS Julie Shaw.

The police headquarters receive a call to say that two officers are down. Pandemonium breaks out as they rush to the scene to find both men dead. They were both shot at close range by a sawn-off shotgun. This feels personal to Hero as he knew one of the policemen quite well via the TA. The chase begins.

A violent sadistic man is on the rampage as two more victims are found, at the post office this time. They can see that his victims were tortured before being killed. Who would do that?

Bob Myers is responsible. His wife was killed by a police chase some years ago. She was innocent of any wrong doing but Myers was in prison at the time. He is out for revenge and enjoying playing games with the police as well.

Another post office raid finds a woman dead and her teenage son missing. A car jacking appears to have gone wrong when a mother is hit and put into the boot of her car and her daughter kidnapped.

THE DEATH TOLL RISES.

Hero comes across as a good man who has a lovely wife, Fay, and three children. He values them even more when going home after a tough day at work. He has a fractious relationship with partner DS Julie Shaw, but they work well together.

This is a tight plot and the author keeps you interested until the end. I read this in one sitting.

I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are all my own and completely unbiased. My thanks to Bloodhound Books for this opportunity.

This is the first of the Hero Nelson series I have read but is not the first in the series.
Initially I was a little put off by the name of the hero being Hero, however, what's in a name?
I think Colin Dexter didn't lose anything by giving his Inspector Morse the first name of Endeavour.
Once I got into the story, I soon got over myself and found Hero to be a very credible character and I even began to think that his dodgy name suited him.
The bad guy Bob Myers (normal name there) to describe him as ruthless, merciless killer doesn't even cut it. He gunned down whoever got in his way and therefore the police were no threat to him.
I would highly recommend to anyone who loves the crime fiction genre this superbly written fast paced thriller as one not to miss.

By the look of the cover, I am not sure I feel safe delving into this story... In Plain Sight is Mel's 3rd in the Hero series, it reads extremely well as a stand alone. Although as always, it is good to read the previous books to get the fuller picture of Hero the main character.
This story grabs you from the prologue, with high speed chases, death, murder and chaos this is all brought to us in the first few chapters, and does not let go all the way through the book.
It is a story of revenge, but for who? I found the read gritty, sad, tense and fearful of what the victims were going through. Especially the hostages, which was an extremely clever storyline to weave into the plot.
There are also quite a few emotional moments in this book for various reasons. Mel writes so fluently that this is an easy and quick read, but at the same time she pulls out all the stops in crime and details. Always leaves you wanting the next instalment.
Hero is a great character and I hope to be reading more of his, and his teams adventures soon.

From prolific author MA Comley comes the third full novel in the Hero Nelson series.
I have long been a fan of M A Comley. She has written some of the best novels that I have ever read. In fact this latest novel is the third in her wonderfully amazing Hero series.
The first series that got me truly interested in crime and thrillers. The third book in this series builds on the characters that made me fall for the character.
Hero is a powerful character that just gets into your system. What I like is he is a hero but he has flaws as well. This makes him fun to read about.
The series has made me look into what type of books really are good. I like books that have strong characters who aren't the norm. This to me.makes a good book and while I do enjoy the strong characters in other books this one shows a strong male lead that is able to show both a masculine and feminine side.

This is the 3rd book in the Hero series but the first that I have read. However, the book is very effectively written as a standalone and I didn’t feel at any disadvantage from not having read the earlier book.

This is a Police Procedural novel but it has all the fast paced, adrenaline pumping action that is to be found in thrillers and this would definitely also fall into the psychological thriller genre. What makes this book unusual is that it has turned upside down from the usual and we have a happily married policeman with a very supportive wife but who has a difficult relationship with his work partner as opposed to the usual supportive partner and neglected spouse.

Hero is a lovely character who is dedicated to his job of protecting the public from the dangerous criminals. He is very likeable but I feel that there is more to learn about him. His partner, Julie, I find very confusing and not very likeable but I could have missed out on background development in the earlier books so I am keeping an open mind.

The story is very unique with the suspect killing policemen left right and centre and has several unusual twists to make this a book that stands out from the norm. It has a lot going on from the very first page and I found myself turning page after page until the very end. The suspense is off the rails as you find yourself rooting for Hero to stop the suspect before he does any more damage.

I absolutely loved this book and will be reading more by this author.

I was provided with a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

In Plain Sight

I'm ashamed to admit this my first encounter with Hero Nelson but I'm hooked!! This is the third book in the series and works as a standalone but I think if you read from the beginning, you'll have more background info etc.

Mel Comley is such a gifted writer, I really don't know how she does it but each book I read is better than the last, In Plain Sight is no exception.

When Hero is called to a crime scene, he discovers the victims are two police officers. As Hero and his team try to catch the assailant, the body count rises and no one is safe! This book has it all, it's a fast paced, edge of your seat and hold your breath thriller and you really can't fail to be entertained by it! 5 shiny stars from me!

With many thanks to the author for my ARC of In Plain Sight.
