I was quickly drawn into the story from page one. It follows the life of firefighter Jase and his friends and family. The way the book is written you feel like Jase is a friend and you want to be there to help him through the ups and downs of his life. I kept wanting to read just one more chapter before putting it down to see how things were going. I loved this book and will be recommending it to my friends.

This is a well written story which drew me in almost immediately. Jase has not had it easy, he has demons which continue to dictate how he lives his life. Something has to give, and when Grace enters his life he finds himself wishing his life were different. Can he put his demons to rest once and for all and find happiness, or will his past continue to affect his present and future? Only time will tell.

This book has a good storyline which flows well.

**I received an ARC of Burning Hearts in exchange for my honest review**

Burning Hearts is a contemporary romance about firefighters Jase and Grace. Jase had lost his fiancee, Michelle, in a fire. Grace is coming to the Blue Watch after her relationship with Colin ended.

These two try to fight the attraction as long as they can. However, just when they think they've got it right, they have an obstacle to overcome.

The first couple of chapters I felt a bit inundated with firefighter talk. That was just a nice introduction to the terms used later on through the story. Being from the USA, reading something based out of Scotland, I had to get used to the different terminology.

I was a bit concerned that Jase's character was not going to be able to overcome his love of Michelle. I also thought Grace could have used a bit more of a backbone when it came to Colin. Jase was definitely the hero in the relationship when it came to Colin. Otherwise, I thought Lowe did a great job showing Grace and Jase as a team when it came to their firefighting calls.

I liked the ending, even if I kind of had an inkling of how it would play out. I loved Mark a lot, his wit and bits of drama with Ali gave an interesting side story.

I am giving Burning Hearts by KM Lowe 4 stars. I really liked it and was happy to be introduced to Lowe's work. Like I said previously, a little bit more of a backbone for Grace would have bumped up my rating. Also, Josh's character, or lack of, kind of through me off. I wasn't really sure what was happening with Meg and her baby, because Josh was just nonexistent. Overall, I did really enjoy Burning Hearts and look forward to Lowe's future works.

When I was asked if I'd like to read and review a book by KM Lowe I jumped at the chance!! I've loved everything I've read by her and I wasn't disappointed in the least!!

Jase is a firefighter and had a terrible loss, his fiancé. He was not really living just going through the motions, work and sleep. His squad was his family and they were amazing during his time of need, especially his best friend Mark.

Grace is just out of firefighter school and Blue Watch is her first assignment so she is super nervous but luckily Jase, her boss, is great and helps her fit in. She has a past she is still trying to get over, especially when it comes to relationships.

Life was full of surprises. Just when I thought my life was getting back on track and I was ready to move forward, someone came along and knocked my life sideways.

You could tell from the start that Jase and Grace had chemistry, but neither were sure if they were ready for the next step. They were still fighting their past and didn't want to be hurt again.

“This can’t be happening again, Chief.”

I loved this book so much. I loved how amazing Jase was. He was a great firefighter, an amazing friend, and son. I loved Grace from the beginning too because she jumped right in at the station and didn't let the "all guy" squad intimidate her.

I loved how Blue Watch was like a huge family and always stuck up for each other no matter what!

The question is will Jase be able to move on from the past? Will Grace? Will they get a second chance at love? Or will they not be able to let the past go?

Make sure you grab this book in order to find out if second chances happen!

Burning Hearts by KM Lowe
Burning Hearts is a stand-alone by KM Lowe. It’s a heart-wrenching novel of lost loves and the chance to find happiness. To be renewed by love. Jason is a firefighter and lost his fiancee, Michele, in the worst way imaginable. He had to watch it happen, while being unable to do anything to stop it.
One year later and Grace come to work at his station where he is now a manager and he has to make sure she gets all her training while fitting in with the all-male crew.
After an easy start, Jase begins to notice he has feeling for Grace. Something he hasn’t felt since he lost Michele and at first he fights it, believing it’s wrong and a betrayal of his love for the woman he should have married.
Grace has her own problems in the shape of a nasty, selfish ex. Fighting through all these things take a toll on them and the parry back and forth. Will they finally find that true love conquers all, or let it sink.

This was my first book by the author and I enjoyed it. The story is about Jase and Grace who are firefighters in the same squad learning to overcome their own personal demons. Jase is an absolute gem who once had everything he wanted, when it was suddenly lost in the blink of an eye. How do you move on when the love of your life is gone? Ms. Lowe did a great job showing how Jase is struggling too move on live life and trying to find a sense of peace/ normality . Enter Grace a year later and she will knock Jase for a loop. Grace is starting over trying to find her place after an abusive relationship. I really liked grace, she was funny, caring, and could hold her own with the guys. The build up to the relationship and the hurdles they have to face with each others as well as outside influences was well written. This book made me cry( just a little) and laugh a bit too, it was a good read that I would definitely recommend.

Jace is a firefighter who is still trying to heal from the regrets and guilt he feels about not being able to save the person he loved the most. When a rookie firefighter joins their unit, he is conflicted by the feelings she raises in him and his determination to never love again.

After her last relationship Grace isn’t confident when it comes to her judgement about men. All she wants to do is prove her worth and show that she is a capable member of their team especially since she is sole female. The last thing she needs is to be distracted by Jace.

This is a story about two people who are still healing from their pasts and don’t believe that they are in any position to be in a relationship, but some things are too strong to deny. This story takes you on an emotional journey and not only are Jace and Grace great characters but there is a great cast of secondary characters as well.

A year ago, Jase McGrady tragically lost his soul mate and the love of his life, Michelle. She died due to something he'd fought and won in the line of duty as a fireman, so losing Michelle that way made him feel powerless and he still blames himself. With the help and support of others, he's managed to rebuild his life the best he can but he's vowed to never love again. Then Grace enters his life and there's something about her that draws him near and has him wondering if he could possibly ever love someone that's not Michelle.

“Love…love is when you want to be with that person 24/ 7. Love is when you feel like your heart belongs to someone else. Your heart beats for someone else. Without that person, your life isn’t worth living. You wake up and go to sleep feeling happy and content. When that bond is broken, you feel like a piece of you is missing. You can’t sleep, and not for want of trying. You can’t eat. Life is miserable.” - Jase

Grace Montgomery moved back home after the breakdown of her relationship and she's the new recruit on Jase’s team. She's nervous as this is her first job as a firefighter since graduating and she'll be the only female in the station. As she spends more time with Jase both in and out of work, Grace finds herself having unexpected feelings for him but she knows they're destined to be just friends. Will either of them ever take the first step to there possibly being more between them?

“Why? Why was I having these feelings? It was only going to end badly for us. We couldn’t work together and have something outside of work. Why? asked my subconscious, which was a devil at the best of times? It wouldn’t work, and neither of us was brave enough to make the leap and make the first move. I guess we were stuck as friends. It was better than nothing.” - Grace

After reading Burning Hearts - A Dark Loss, I couldn't wait to read Burning Hearts and see if Jase got a second chance at finding love and being happy. The devastation Jase felt in the first book had me crying and my heart went out to him as he couldn't imagine a life without Michelle. However, he slowly started to rebuild his life and grow strong again but he hadn't moved on from losing Michelle. It was clear in Burning Hearts that he wasn't the man he was before and I worried that he'd sink back into the black hole from the first book. However, meeting Grace ignited something in him again and he felt protective over her almost immediately. It was at this point that I became hopeful and couldn't wait to see if Jase and Grace would get their HEA.

Grace lost everything when she left her boyfriend and moved back home, but she didn't let this stop her from achieving her dream of becoming a firefighter. Her confidence was knocked though and I feel this played a part in how she was when she first started working at the station; she had self doubts and worried about what the other firefighters would think of her. Jase made her feel safe and she trusted him, which she can't have found easy after what her ex boyfriend did to her. Btw, we get to meet her ex boyfriend in Burning Hearts and he really is a waste of space!

As with Burning Hearts - A Dark Loss, this book had me hooked and took me on an emotional roller-coaster ride. K.M. Lowe writes with such emotion and shows the grief and guilt someone can feel when moving on with their life after losing the person they love. However, she made Michelle sound like a kind and caring person who would've wanted Jase to move on and be happy again. You will fall in love with all of K.M. Lowe’s characters (other than Grace’s ex of course) as she describes them so well and you feel like you know them personally. My heart not only broke for Jase and Grace, it also broke for Mark who received some unexpected news and struggled to deal with it. Due to K.M. Lowe’s words, you could feel the turmoil Mark was going through as he tried to figure out his relationship and future. Thankfully, Jase was there for his best friend and colleague.

Again, I was able to relate personally to parts of this story and I've included the quote from Jase further above in this review because I feel it describes perfectly how someone feels when they lose the person they love; be it due to death or the relationship ending. It describes exactly how I felt about my ex boyfriend when we were together and then separated. He didn't die but I still grieved and I wish I'd had this quote 7 years ago to help me explain to others how I was feeling! K.M. Lowe always seems to ‘hit the nail on the head’ when she's explaining the emotions someone is feeling. I just absolutely love her work!

Burning Hearts by K.M. Lowe can be a read as a standalone. However, there is a prequel novella called Burning Hearts - A Dark Loss that tells us more about Jase’s story before he meets Grace in this book. I would recommend starting with the prequel novella first as this helps you to better understand Jase’s feelings of guilt and grief.

Jase was a firefighter for the Blue Watch fire station. He had everything he could possibly want in life. He was happy and content. Then in the blink of an eye, his entire world came crashing down. He lost everything including the love of his life. He would never love another woman like he loved Michele.
Grace had gotten out of an abusive relationship with her ex, who was a firefighter for the Black Watch fire station. She was now going to be a female firefighter herself with the Blue Watch fire station. She trusted no man ever again.
A beautiful love story of two lost souls trying to move forward in life with their pasts still haunting them. With the love of their family and friends, they were still pushing each other away, sliding back into their shells of loneliness.
I would recommend this book.  I'm volunteering an honest review for an advance reader's copy.

Burning Hearts is beautifully written by KM Lowe capturing the feeling and emotions that grief can bring out in people.

How do you move on after losing the love of your life and drowning in grief?
Jase has to learn to do just that. When new firefighter Grace arrives to work with Blue Watch she awakens feeling in Jase he thought he would never feel again.
Can Grace help Jase overcome the guilt he feels and show him that it is okay to move on and that she can be his forever.

This book will take you on such an emotional journey, its definitely not one to miss.

I fell head over heels with the cover for Burning Hearts and was so excited to read this. The story of Jason and his career as a firefighter was a courageous one. This is the kind of book that will literally stay with you. The journey he has been through is one of heartbreak...

Excerpt:
Michelle didn’t just die in that fire last year. A piece of me died as well. I had a fire burning in my stomach before she died in that blazing inferno. I had a job I loved and put every ounce of my time and effort into, but now, it’s just a job. I do it to pay the bills, and that’s it.

Cue Susan's ugly crying (which by the way started right at the very beginning of this story!). Jason's utter commitment to his work and his colleagues is just beyond heartwarming. And so when new recruit, Grace Montgomery joins the team? Well Susan got a little giddy!

Excerpt:
She might have looked like a fragile rose, but she was a strong, independent woman. Maybe I had misread her and needed to give her some rein.

The very serious subject of fire, the damage it can cause physically, but equally how emotionally it can have just as detrimental an effect on those touched by it, is ha died so well in this story. Also how the courageous men and women firefighters who, like Jason and his team, fight to save lives every day. This story captured me heart and soul, with a romance that filtered through a very real and sometimes unrecognised danger that we all are susceptible to.
Grace is a fiercely strong, independent woman, who despite working in a male orientated environment, just naturally fits in. With having her fair share of heartbreak already, can she open her heart again or live up to what Jase expects?

Excerpt:
You came along and blew me away. The feelings I had for you, I couldn’t understand. I didn’t want to betray that memory of Michelle, and it took me a while to realise how stupid I was being. I love everything about you, Grace.

A simply breathtaking read that I can't wait for more from KM Lowe.

Final excerpt:
Life can change so quickly, and I’ve learnt not to take things for granted. Hug your loved ones tighter and never let a day go by without telling them how much you love them. You never know when that time will come when you can no longer do the simplest of tasks.

I received this book in return for an honest review.............
Jason (Jase) Mc Grady is a firefighter with Blue Watch at Sterling Fire Station , a job he loves and does well , a fiancée he absolutely adores, and a house full of memories they have made ready for their life together.
That is until coming back from CALL OUT the chief takes a call about a house fire .......... it`s Jase`s house and when they get there ,his fiancée is brought out but nothing can be done to save her!!!!! leaving Jase heartbroken and devastated as his whole world has come crashing down.
A year on, and Jase talks at his fiancée`s grave telling her that he still loves her but he cant keep coming to the cemetery if he needs to get on with his life, and so with that and being made Team Leader of Blue Watch, Jase readies himself to meet the new recruit . Enter Grace Montgomery latest addition to the fire station, who has an instant attraction to Jase , and him with her although he doesn't want to admit it.
Grace is tough, but still has a vulnerability that Jase is determined to protect, but they know that a romance between two colleagues is ,although not frowned upon , could it lead to misplaced loyalties . So are they destined to be together or not ?
This book had me from the first page, and oh my god is it heartbreaking at times, another book to have the hankies ready for , but also there are times when you laugh , shout and in my case want to slap a certain character for their behaviour ( you will know who I`m talking about ).
KM Lowe has done it again with this book and by that I mean drawn me in from the beginning and not only do you love the main characters, you also like or love in my case the secondary ones i.e Mark . So do yourself a huge favour grab this book , lock the door, turn off the phone ,and curl up with this 5 star read that will hopefully have you hooked and lusting after the hunky firefighters.

*Book purchased directly from the Author, at an event.
This was my first read of the author, and I can wholeheartedly say it won't be my last.
I want to start my review by thanking K M Lowe for the descriptions of the work of a member of the Emergency Services. Yes, the main characters are Fire Officers, but as a former Police Officer it brought home all of the memories I have from scenes I had to attend throughout my five years of being in the force. The family aspect that comes working in a team attending things that no-one should ever have to deal with or witness - it's a strong bond that can never be un-broken. They're the only people that will ever understand the things seen. So, again, thank you to the Author for highlighting all of that in the book.
Okay, back to the story... Jason (Jase) is the most lovable guy you would want on your side. That you would want to know. After losing someone so close to him, someone he loved with all of his heart, he almost crumbles. His heart is crushed into a million pieces, and being able to build it back together he puts up a barrier to protect it from ever breaking again. No other woman will ever get close - that's until, Grace arrives.
Grace is also a FireFighter - a new recruit to Blue Watch - Jase's team. She too has her demons from the past, and as if Jase senses that - he instantly feels protective of her. From the pages you can feel the chemistry building between them, you feel the connection from their very first meeting.
This is a beautifully written story of loss, pain, and love. Each page turn you're wanting more and more.
Enjoyed it so much!

“Fire doesn’t just kill; it destroys anything in its path.”

I can’t even begin to imagine how it must feel to lose the person you intended to spend the rest of your life with to the very thing you were trained to protect people from. Yet, this is the very fate that befalls fireman, Jase McGrady.

Resigned to spending the rest of his life alone and ghosting through his existence, he didn’t bank on the feelings the new trainee, Grace Montgomery, would awaken in him. Can Jase make peace with his feelings of guilt and embrace his second chance at a HEA?

Grace is not without her own demons. Following the breakdown of her previous relationship, one which was toxious, Grace is trying to concentrate on her career and finding herself again. However, sometimes fate has other ideas.

Can two wounded hearts heal each other and become one?

This was a bit of a slow burner (no pun intended) for me, but once the story got going I became engrossed as to what was going to happen. The author really ramped up the drama and the danger that our firemen and women face every day. I even shed a tear or two. What can I say? Anything to do with kids gets me every time.

I also really appreciated all the Scottish colloquialisms which had me snort giggling. I have to wonder, though, if other readers will understand them.

A really enjoyable story where I hope to read more about the men and woman of Blue Watch.

What a wonderful storyline. I loved the premise of the story, I loved the characters and the interaction between the firefighters. (I have worked at a fire station before, and it is the same way no matter where they are from). There are a couple of things that I would have liked to have resolved in the story; such as the false alarms and Grace's ex. I would have liked to have seen him brought up on charges, fired or had the hell beat out of him...something!! The writing was good, but in some places the dialog seemed, I don't know, too simple for adults (not sure how to explain it). The dialect took a bit of getting used to, but it wasn't a deterrent from the flow of the dialog, I mean sometimes I had to think about what something was, but figured it out, but that is not a bad thing. I loved Jase and Grace, although at one point I wanted to slap her because she pushed him away and then complained that he was staying away and everyone was saying he needed to get his head out of his arse. That part confused me just a tiny bit, even if she admitted to (us) that she pushed him away. I didn't see what she was seeing in him that made her push him away. But maybe I just missed it.

I did enjoy this book, it's heartbreaking beginning almost did me in but the storyline was quite lovely and I loved Mark's character....simply because he was a character. I think anyone who likes firefighter books will enjoy this book.

Burning Hearts was an enjoyable read for me, having read books by this author in the past I knew what she is capable of as a storyteller and this book was no exception. This story has a great background theme of friends and family pulling together through tragedy and loss, its set in and around a fire station and it focuses on the comradery amongst the team of Blue Watch, it gives you an insight of how they deal with every situation that gets thrown at them personally and professionally.
Our hero Jase McGrady is a loveable character that goes through a lot of personal pain and loss that will break your heart, likewise is our heroine Grace Montgomery who has her own personal demons to deal with, together they bond and form a close friendship that soon becomes more that either expected.
I have said that I enjoyed this story and I did very much so as it has a great storyline and structure but I did find a couple of times in the story that the writing didn't quite flow as well as it could have and that I found myself adding the odd word or changing a word for something that would fit better but as this is an ARC that i've read to review that may have been rectified in the final edit.
On the whole this is a great book and I would recommend this book to my friends to read.

What a marvelous book! This is a very well written book with characters that you can’t help but love. Jase and Grace are two very broken people due to past experiences that changed the course of their lives.

Jase is a rare one in that he is a sexy, romantic “gentleman” in every sense of the word. Women are to be treasured, respected, loved and protected not abused, looked down on or forgotten. He is also the leader of the Blue Squad firefighters. Grace has recently returned to her hometown to get away from her past mistakes. She has just graduated and become a firefighter. She gets assigned to Jase’s team for her first job. From the moment Jase and Grace meet there is a spark, pull, bond whatever you wish to name it between these two lost yet caring souls.

This story will rip your emotions to shreds at times and give you heartwarming goosebumps at others. The author will take you on a wonderful journey as Jase and Grace throw themselves into their dangerous line of work while attempting to return to the land of the living in their personal lives. 2 Thumbs Up for this amazing book that I highly recommend 1-clicking ASAP!

From heartbreak to hope, to second chances. An emotional story that had me riding a wave of smiles and tears. Firefighting isn't a job for the faint hearted but when it hits close to home it can be devastating. Jase was strong, compassionate, loving and supportive of his team. They as well turn that around for him. A new recruit means adapting and finding out strengths and weaknesses and a way to blend in with all of them so as not to comprise safety while working. But sparks of a different kind have their emotions up and down as both struggle with moving on from their pasts. Well written sensitive story that I felt quite realistic and down to earth, scary moments during scenes that had me on the edge of my seat, plus moments of joy tinged with stress. Fabulous characters easy to fall in love with and a plot full of twists and turns. I loved the community atmosphere of where this takes place and that several in the team had not just grown up there but trained and stayed there. Moving, exciting and powerful read.

Burning Hearts is my first book by K.M Lowe, and I liked it. Really liked it!
It's a story about family and friends, comradeship and love. And about getting a second chance in life and love.

I get that some authors may feel that writing about the use of a condom during hot bedroom activities is a "turn-off", but I kinda feel the opposite. At least let the couple have "the talk" if they are clean or not, with or without condom.. I don't mind reading about the couple getting carried away, but then they need "the talk" afterwards!

It's a very sweet story. Almost like a lovely fairytale. Jace is such a good man, he's almost to good to be true! Sweet, handsome, caring, protective and don't forget he's a bloody fireman!!
Grace is his perfect other half. She is strong, both body and mind, and she is loving and caring and perhaps understand some things other women would have different to understand.

There's nothing easy about being a fireman. It doesn't help that your heart and soul have been ripped away from you by the very thing you defend people from. You weren't there. You didn't save her. Battling back from his devastating loss and finally on the mend he gets cut down at the knees at the feelings she awakens. She is recovering from a bad breakup, returning to the safety of home to heal. New on the job, new to the fire fighting family she so desperately wants to fit in with. They fight their attraction but of course it's a loosing battle. This author gives us an emotional read of healing, breaking, rebuilding, acceptance as old pains are healed and new ties are welcomed. I needed Grace to be a little stronger in her personal life. It's hard to rectify the hard working, determined woman she is to the one in her personal life but I kinda get it. Jace is as sweet as they come. The relationship of the firehouse and support is what helps them both through and warms the heart.

ARC recieved for an honest review.

This is a first time read for this author, despite knowing about her work for a while. I am not sure what has taken me so long.

The book had me in the 1st few chapters. I will warn you though, make sure you have tissues at hand as it is awfully sad.

The book follows Jase and Grace. Jase is the boss of Blue Watch Fire Station and Grace is a new recruit.

Grace is paired up with Mark. I must admit though, Mark was my favourite character. He and Jase take Grace under their wings. could this be a chance of second time lucky for both of them. Or will their past be too much for them to be able to move on.

Thank you KM Lowe for agreeing to let me review for you. I so hope you write and release the prequel Novella of Jase and Grace. I will defiantly be back for more. lol
