One decision changed my entire life. And I’ve been paying for it ever since.

Seattle felt like the perfect place to hide. The perfect place for a reformed hacker who now fights for the other side to start over. And it worked. Things are better than ever. Even if my past is never far behind.

But when I see Ivy Green again, the woman I was never able to get out of my mind, I want her. For so much more than the one-night stand we had ten years ago. It doesn't matter that my dark past and dangerous present mean I can't keep her. That my secrets would destroy any shot at a real future.

After all, she's leaving in a month. What's the worst that could happen?

It was just one drink to ease the pain of losing a patient. That one drink for Dr. Ivy Green, single, beautiful and alone gets her caught up in the frenzy of crashing an engagement party when she meets the quirky Claire who overpowers her sense of propriety and unknowingly is about to turn her finely ordered world into a tumultuous journey of romantic chaos that started over a decade before. It was a frivolous one night stand with a handsome man, but that night became so much more for Ivy and she has never forgotten the man that got away and now he is right in front of her, without a flicker of recognition…

Luke sees her from across the room, the woman he had to leave without a word of goodbye and ten years later she is even more beautiful, more desirable, but will she remember him? If she did, she shows no sign, like maybe slapping his face for his seemingly callous departure in the middle of the night.

But life has a wonderful way of bringing two people together when they are meant to be, but even this time, there is an expiration date, because Ivy will be moving to finish her hard won fellowship at a hospital hundreds of miles away and Luke has a successful life right where he is, even as his past still haunts him, which is why he ran from Ivy’s bed and into obscurity. Do they have what it takes to make it through time and distance this time or was this just another teaser on life’s journey?

Hang on to your heart as J. Saman allows her characters to speak their minds and thoughts as they share their POVs and bare their hearts. START OVER a beautifully succinct title that tells it all. Two people are given the chance to start over, older, wiser and yet, even with all of their live experiences, they tentative love they share is as riddled with angst and insecurity as that of two eighteen-year-olds. Often sweet, sometimes wonderfully endearing this ride through the tunnel of love has its moments when their boat seems about to capsize in a tsunami of emotional baggage.

Wonderfully written, thoroughly engaging and completely romantic, sometimes love rocks you when you least expect it!

I received an ARC edition from J. Saman in exchange for my honest review.

Starting Over

J. Saman

Holy cow! What an awesome story STARTING OVER is. As soon as I finished reading this beautiful and heart breaking story, I had to remember to breathe. I found myself holding my breath as I finished, afraid something that would break my heart all over again, was going to happen. I'm happy to say, I loved STARTING OVER from start to finish. From the very first page, J Saman grabs your mind as well as your heart and she never lets you go. Hang on to your seat because it is a crazy and wild ride. She will also leave you screaming for more.

Ivy is leaving Seattle for a year for a fellowship in Boston in one month when she runs into Luke. Luke is a hot and sexy dude who she had a one night stand with. Ivy has thought about Luke way more than she cares to admit but it's been a long time since they have seen each other. Luke wants to continue where they left off 10 years ago, but Ivy is afraid. Ivy knows this is a bad idea and really tries to resist Luke, but he is relentless in his persuit of Ivy. STARTING OVER will have your feelings as well as your heart on an emotional rollercoaster and if you are like me, you will love every minute of it!

Luke is a computer hacker and has many many secrets. Will Ivy ever learn the truth? Will Luke ever be able to tell her? You have got to read STARTING OVER to find out. Trust me, you will love it and you will instantly get caught up in Ivy and Luke's business. This is my third time reading this very talented author, J. Saman, and I know it wont be the last. Even though she breaks my heart each and every time, her writing captivates me and always leaves me wanting more. I also know she is continuing this series and that makes.me.very very happy. I just hope the wait doesn't kill me.

She moves to stand up, but before she can get very far, I jerk her back down.
I lower my lips to hers because they’re right there and I’ve wanted to kiss her since I
heard that melodic voice in the dark two days ago.
F@!k friends. I’ve dreamt of this girl for a decade.
I kiss her lightly at first, rediscovering her flavor. The cinnamon and vanilla sweetness is
still as intoxicating as it was the first time I pressed my lips to hers. Our soft languid kiss quickly
morphs into something fueled by years of pent-up frustration. That and I’m desperate and terrified that she’s going to push me away any second, so I’m kissing her like it counts. Like I’m fighting the damn clock, because in a way, I am.
But she doesn’t push me away...We’re at the precipice here. One small shove and we’ll be tumbling into an inescapable abyss.

I can’t explain how much this couple sizzles...like, totally hot! You’ll have to read it to see what I’m talking about, but oh wow, their chemistry leaps off the pages. I couldn’t put it down, I just kept turning the pages wanting to know the outcome of these two. I also loved getting a glimpse of Kate & Ryan again.
It’s definitely a small world, especially for Ivy Green and Luke Walker. Who would have thought that a night of trying to get wasted, would turn into making friends at a gay bar, being lead to a surprise party for a colleague, and in the midst of the surprises they would meet again. Poor Ivy steps into a room full of strangers, only to find that the man who she’s been dreaming about, and had casual sex with ten years prior, is seated in the far corner of the room staring right at her. Their attraction for one another is undeniable. But the question remains, does he remember her or what happened between them that night?
Luke is definitely a GQ bad boy and who can help falling for his good looks, smoldering gaze, kindness, his protective nature and even his cheesiness...need I say more. He’s finally found Ivy again, but she’s leaving in a month and he needs to make every moment count. But Mr. Walker has a shady past that may hinder him from starting over with the woman of his dreams.
J. Saman you have done it once again! A wonderful read- so worth every minute!

There was a lot that surprised me about this book and one thing I could not get over. Let's start with the obvious thing that is no secret from the blurb. Its the one thing I could not get over - that was the instant attraction that sparked between the leads.

It bugged me - the author placed so much feelings into this novel that this instant attraction did not fit into the plot somehow. It might have if it had been introduced differently but the way it was done did not work that well with me, which is why it ended at 4 stars in my rating .

After I was struggeling with this instant elements I was surprised by the depth of development that followed. There were a ton of struggles for the leads in general. And the baggage Luke carries is not easy to swallow that is for sure.

Yet both characters get a second chance and they will make use of that chance, it will not be without hurt and they will need to work their way to a mess of their own creation as well as a mess that is out of their hands.

Some revelations will shock you – well at least they shocked me – others are to be expected when you follow the plot.

There were moments when I wished for a little more background on what was happening and why but for the most part the story is well developed and written.

Therefore I can definitely recommend this book for lovers of second chances that do not hesitate to stick to their leads even if the road gets rough

Oh my gosh!!

This book was absolutely amazing and had me up all night reading it!! I just couldn't put it down!!

Ivy is funny, intelligent, and has wicked quick wit. Luke is absolutely dreamy in every way possible. Definitely my new book boyfriend.

Ivy and Luke meet 10 years earlier and have a one night stand that sticks with the both of them. Luke leaves in the middle of the night but that doesn't mean he has forgotten Ivy.
The two meet again by chance when Ivy crashed a surprise party with a girl she met only 20minutes prior.

The couple have only a month together before Ivy is set to leave for a fellowship in Boston.

Luke is unable to open up about his self or his past which causes the couple to split. Leaving both of them broken hearted.

I wanted to laugh and cry with the two of them. This book is so well written. It leads you on an emotional rollarcoaster that will have you begging for more!!

Like so many others I really loved this story, especially since I am really fond of second chance romances. The opening scene had me hooked and the relationship that blossomed between Ivy and Claire just made sense in a weird way. I think I want to hang out with them lol. The dialogue was crisp and snappy and the author never dipped into the purple prose that can make romances truly cringeworthy. In fact, this bordered on chick lit because the characters and plot were so open and well constructed - it wasn't just angst for the sake of romantic drama.
I think anyone who is a fan of cerebral, emotionally accessible characters with urbanity and humor will really love this book!

Wow! I loved this book!
Review coming soon...

After finishing Start Over, I had to take a step back and catch my breath before writing my review. This book captured my heart and just wouldn't let go. I guess you could say that Ivy and Luke had me at 'hello.' I LOVE me some second chance romance and this one doesn't disappoint! This is my third J. Saman book and I can't wait for her fourth!

Dr. Ivy Green finds herself in a precarious situation one night at a local bar. When she meets Claire, a devil-may-care kinda girl who convinces Ivy to accompany her to a friends engagement party. Normally, Ivy would never dream of doing such a thing but feels it could be just what the 'Doctor' ordered. So, after a cheery 'surprise' to the unsuspecting couple, Ivy glances around the room. Immediately, she's taken aback when her gaze lands on Luke Walker. A one night stand she had over 10 years ago...

Luke knows exactly who she is the moment their eyes meet. Ivy Green. The girl he left behind in the middle of the night all those years ago. Thankfully, she doesn't recognize him because if she did, he'd surely get a piece of her mind for leaving without a goodbye. Luke had his reasons back then and they haven't changed. Ivy is too good a person for the likes of him...

I highly recommend Start Over to each and everyone of you who believe that love conquers all...

I absolutely loved this one; I may as well just admit that J. SAMAN is one of my favorite authors.

Her writing is so moving that got me consumed in the story from the very first page.
This book is the second book in Start again series, but it talks about a different couple, and guess what guys? there are no repeated scenes! I was afraid at first that there are repeated scenes from different respective, and let me tell you, I absolutely hate to read anything twice, but there is none
Ivy and Luke’s story starts right after Ryan and Kate’s ( the couple from book 1)

Hey, Romance junkies! This one is perfect for you XO

description

“His gaze turns soft, and for a moment, I’m completely swept away with the promise in those eyes. There’s nothing dirty, heated or sinister in them. They’re warm and enticing and so bloody sincere that I’m finding it hard to look away, let alone breathe.”

My summary:
Ivy Green was all about playing by the rules; she worked very hard to get to her position in SEATTLE hospital as a children doctor; until she met Luke Walker at an engagement party. Rules? What rules? She broke the rule once 10 years ago, but now, she’s changed, and it doesn’t matter anyways, she’s living Seattle in a month so she’s not gonna get attached to anyone especially not Luke, right? yeah, we will see about that Ivy, darlin’ ;)

Luke is quite something here, he’s the whole package, dangerous, secretive, and hot AF. But when it comes to Ivy Green, the women of his dreams, he can’t seem to keep himself away from her. Even when being with her, does put her life in danger.
.
.
Okay, I can’t compare this one to book 1, because it’s my favorite and I think it will remain my fav for a little longer. But this book has its own magic.
Ivy and her absolutely amazing accent that gets think when she’s drunk or nervous, OMG she got me laughing out loud.
But most importantly her mentality was really close to me I can totally relate. How she analyzes things and take a decision, she’s just so me hahaha.
And Luke, well humm I don’t know what to say honestly but I just dig this whole, nerd-hot-rich man, so yeah I liked him a lot, but not a much as Ryan yeah im that obsessed.

“Luke is unimaginable. And it’s not just his talented tongue or the way he looks at me like I’m the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen—though neither of those hurt his cause. No, it’s the way he makes me feel free when I have been hiding. Awake instead of dormant. Fearless instead of petrified. Ceaseless instead of temporary.”

They are so beautifully in love, I just loved reading their story.

“ “You feel it too, don’t you?” I don’t have to ask her what she’s talking about. I felt it the moment I grabbed her wrist to stop her from leaving. I felt it the moment I saw her hair fly by my face, and before “that when I noticed her walking across campus. She’s different and we could be something different together. Something astounding. Something you encounter once in a lifetime, if that. It’s been five minutes and I can already tell that.”

This is the second book of the Start Again series. However this is a standalone, you don't need to read the first one to read this one. The characters in the first book do appear in the second book, but the main characters in the book are different from the first one. So if you enjoyed the first one, then it is nice reading the second book.

I have to say I did enjoy this book. When Ivy crashes a party, she sees her one-night stand from ten years ago. Let's just say Luke doesn't recognize her but she recognizes him. She doesn't want to get involve with him because she is leaving in a month for a fellowship. He wants to get involved with her and it also turns out he does remember her. We see they have this crazy, beautiful chemistry but her leaving to go across the country is looming over their heads. They try to keep this "fun". But as anyone knows, this is easier to say than do. Also as great as Luke is, he is a very secretive person. Af first, it doesn't bother Ivy as much but it soon becomes a problem. Problems like these don't just miraculously go away. Remember Ivy is leaving in about month, is this relationship even worth the trouble? I'm going to leaving you hanging by the thread, so read on to find out what happens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say J. Saman writes another great book. I look forward to reading more of her books.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.

I found this to be a highly enjoyable read. The pacing of Start Over was quick, with enough information given to build intruige and enough held back to draw out interest. The witty dialogue had a natural feel to it that allowed the reader to step into the characters’ heads.

I enjoyed the chemistry between Ivy and Luke, the main characters. Their relationship had its ups and downs, but maintained its strength throughout the entirety of the book. The friendships and character interactions added charm to the story and kept it interesting. Start Over had a few twists I wasn’t expecting, which added to its enjoyment.

There were some formatting issues that distracted me, mainly regarding inconsistent paragraph indenting. I also would have liked more explanation in regards to Luke’s job. Even so, Start Over was a good read.

Oh I love this book even more than Start Again.
The first book's couple are lovingly interwoven, but are not the main feature.

I love how these characters develop.
Again, I was rooting for them to come together.

This author's style is addictive. It was hard to put this book down, but I had to sleep at some point.

OK, so there's not an earth shattering surprise or anything, but the story is well worth the read.
Incredibly romantic.

I loved this book. The plot has some exciting twists, there's lots of romance, good characters, nice steaminess and the second chance romance theme I love. It was a nice longer length that I prefer too. I stayed up late last night as I had to finish it. I'd give it more stars if I could.

I couldn't put this story down. It has everything I love in a happily ever after Romance. Difficult subject matter is handled with compassion and honesty. I read this as a standalone and enjoyed it thoroughly. I'm off to read the rest of author, Saman's, backlist of novels.
PS - I enjoyed Ivy's Australian background and the use of authentic lingo in the story but others may not.

Start Over was an intense love story between two, unlikely to work, people. I enjoyed the story and the depth that the author took to show the amount of love and desire that the characters (especially Luke) had for the other. Though it seemed a bit unrealistic for that amount of affection to occur in the short time frame of the novel, I still felt engaged in their romance.

I truly loved the read, but at times it felt a bit slow moving for me. I would have loved to have seen more story development around the character's backgrounds. I think because this is the second book in a series, it may have been beneficial to start with #1. The author did go into a little detail about what probably happened in the first book, and it kept me wanting to go back and read that first! Which is a good thing! Again, I liked the romance element between Ivy and Luke, and now I will have to back-up and read the first book! Thank you, J. Saman, for allowing me to read and rate your book. I look forward to reading more from this author.

J. Saman does a wonderful job creating characters you feel passionate about. Very well written, the book will keep you up all night. Both main characters are written beautifully, and suck you in right from the beginning. Don't read this book if you have something to do the next day. Once I started it I had to finish it. The chemistry between Ivy and Luke is so electrifying and hot I had to fan myself while I read it.

ARC received by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a sweet story! The book starts off with Dr. Ivy Green who is drinking her sorrows away after losing a patient while on shift. She meets Claire and doesn’t realize that she is in a gay bar! Ivy gets coaxed into going to an engagement party with Claire and runs into her one and only one night stand Luke Walker. Ivy immediately recognizes him and she thinks he doesn’t recognize her, but he does.

Ivy is leaving for a fellowship in Boston in one month and Luke wants to start where they left off 10 years ago. The story is in both Ivy and Luke’s POV’s which is really nice. The story wasn’t drawn out like other books and I was pleased by this. I also liked the fact that the author progressed their relationship and it wasn’t insta love. I also liked the fact that Luke did feel something for Ivy 10 years ago but couldn’t act on it right then because he had his issues to deal with. Now they have one month and one month is all it takes for them to fall and fall hard. But Ivy still has her obligation to the fellowship she agreed to.

I won’t give too much away, but I was almost heart broken when Ivy returned from her fellowship in Boston, but I am so glad the story ended the way it did. There is no cliffhanger (yes!!) and we have a HEA! I’m hoping the author will continue with Claire and Kyle’s story. I’m sure this will be a good one as well not to mention funny as Claire is hilarious in this book.

J. Saman does it again!! "Start Over" is another great romance novel by J. Saman. This is the second J. Saman book I've read, and I loved it just as much as the first book, "Start Again". Luke Walker is a sexy guy, and although I will never meet him in person, I love to live vicariously thru J. Saman's stories. They're so interesting, and so delicious, that I look forward to her next novel. I know I'm going to love whatever sexy guy she dreams up next.

Ivy Green (love that name btw) and Luke Walker are having a tumultuous romance. I feel as if I should give them advice because I view them as my friends. They're my friends the way Ivy Green was accepted into the circle of friends at the engagement party - immediate and unconditional acceptance, no strings attached. The biggest priority is to just have fun. Interestingly, the book is written from both points of view - Ivy's and Luke's. I also appreciate how their relationship develops throughout the book. Relationships aren't easy, and this one is no exception to that rule. The reader is taken on quite a ride in this book.

I highly recommend this book. It's a real crowd pleaser. J. Saman is an excellent writer, and "Start Over" is an excellent book.

I was expecting Start Over by J Saman to be “just” a romance novel. While romance is at its core, (a smart girl and a bad boy and tons of chemistry) there is more to this book—there’s a good bit of substance.

First off, I found the writing to be really good. The beginning is strong; I loved the scene in the lesbian bar. It was refreshing to start right out with two straight girls who didn’t have to bend over backwards trying to prove their straightness. It should be noted that there are some heavy issues in this book, so if you’re looking for romance-lite, this may not be for you.

There were times when Ivy and Luke’s musings about each other were a little over the top for me. That being said, I liked their relationship and found myself rooting for them. Thanks to the interesting characters and well-paced plot, I stayed up way to late reading through to the end.

Note—Don’t worry about this book being#2 in a series; it works perfectly well as a standalone.

this cover is a little misleading - when I look at this, I think sex. And yes, there is sex: fantastic, steamy, mind-blowing sex.

but - this story is an emotional ride about trust, about intimacy, about true love. Luke and Ivy, after one encounter a decade before, stumble upon other at a party and Ivy is certain that Luke doesn't remember her. He absolutely does, and convinces her to let him have a chance to enjoy her company in the short time before she leaves the state to pursue a fellowship. When they begin to fall in love with each other, both struggle with the seriousness of their feelings, and while they can admit that the physical attraction between them is not only mutual, but spectacular, they are afraid that the other isn't interested in a commitment.

this is a love story, first and foremost, one as true as they come.

Dina is a pure soul with a big heart and a ready smile, especially for her customers at Gallagher’s Restaurant. No matter how hectic and stressful the job, she always has a gentle manner and kind word to accompany the ever-present smile. A few weeks before Christmas, a mysterious benefactor surprises her with a trip to the places she’s always wanted to visit. As she travels from Paris to Rome to New York, she finds herself falling in love with a man she met standing in front of the Mona Lisa. But when the secrets of her generous gift and those of her new-found love are revealed, will she be able to overcome hurts and disappointments from past relationships and trust that what she’s found is authentic and lasting?

This book has such an understated beauty about it. In a crowded choppy sea of writing strewn with detritus and poorly constructed, slowly sinking vessels, the authors’ writing is like a fresh breath of air for a stagnant soul. With paper the canvas and ink the brush, the authors paint a rich, warm, colorful picture of a quaint mountain town and then take the reader to exciting locales of Paris, Rome and New York City during the most thrilling, joyous time of the year. The plot is surprisingly unique, leaving the reader to wonder if events are carefully contrived or if there may just be a bit of Christmas magic at work. The characters are deep and complex, and the relationship between Dina and Paul is a delightful display of give-and-take between light and darkness and how one can perfectly complement the other. This is a truly charming, fascinating, heartwarming read and not to be missed!

I like certain aspects of this story but again for frustrated with the lack of details about the past with Ryan and Luke. This was more true with Luke because it really impacted the relationship with Ivy, TWICE. I didn't understand what was so different after a year break that all of the sudden made it safe for him to want to try again. I also was at a loss as to why Jason was brought back into the story as it really served no purpose. I think I would have liked him to have been the issue or drama in this story rather than Luke's "job". This makes me sad, to say as I loved the characters and really enjoyed that I got to see a little more into the future for them.

Even though the story wasn't my favorite, the author has a gift at creating stories that keep me invested. Looking forward to Claire's story.

I really enjoyed this tale, and I’m glad I read it. The characters were well created and introduced. The chemistry between the characters was plausible and drew my interest. Their personalities meshed well, without being overblown. I loved the occasional shout outs to some of my favorite books and movies, such as Princess Bride. The ‘mysterious past’ bit got a little annoying, but I’m glad it was strung out because it worked. The Australian accent was nicely subtle, just a few phrases here and there to remind the reader where the main character was from. I loved the end note about the different versions of the story, especially as one critique would have been for Jason to have a deeper menace in the story. But it seems the author already explored that option and it was too dark. I recommend this book who like romances with lots of tangles and happy endings. The biggest quibble I have is that the paragraphs had big chunks that weren’t indented. That inconsistent formatting made it difficult to read and keep track of the paragraphs, but the overall editing was good.

I loved this book. I loved the characters and I loved watching them grow as people and as a couple. I loved that we got to know them really well. What I loved most about this book is that it made me feel.

Very complicated story..a loving story but sometimes love isn't enough.. Luke and Ivy are a heartbreaking love story but it's still a love story that had me wanting them to connect during the right time in their life

I absolutely loved this book. This is the first book that I have read by J. Saman and I am glad that I did. This is about Luke and Ivy. Ivy and Luke had a one night stand many many years ago, she moved on with her life and started towards becoming a doctor. He got messed up with his past and hacking and attempted to move on with his life. After meeting a stranger Claire in a bar Ivy ends up running into Luke again and feeling the same feelings she had for him back then. They attempt to start a relationship but Ivy is leaving to continue her intership at a hospital in Boston which is the other side of the country from Luke. Luke has a past that he cant walk away from and is not willing to tell Ivy about that past because he is afraid that she will walk away. So instead of trying for a long distance relationship they go their separate ways both loving each other just neither one willing to put the right foot forward to make it happen. After a year they find themselves back together but is love enough to get them past the lies and their past? This was a very well written book with amazing character chemistry between not only Luke and Ivy but between all the main characters in this story. I loved the character of Claire she adds humor to this book which gives it that added enjoyment. For being the first book that I have read by this author I did enjoy it and will recommend it. I cant wait to read more by this author.
