I have had the great privilege and joyful experience of editing several of Giulia's books in draft form. Careful editing is a lot of work and not as enjoyable as laying on the beach reading a book. I do it for Giulia because I believe in her talent as one of the great writers of our time and want to see her be recognized as such by a wide audience. If I can help her achieve that goal in any small part, then my efforts have been worthwhile. Like many good authors, Giulia's writing gets better with each new book and Destiny Changed is no exception. If you have read and liked any of her previous work, then this book will thrill you. It's Giulia’s best work so far.
The first book in this series, Destiny Taken, was very good too and interesting in terms of marine archeology and the land and customs of the Middle Eastern setting. It grabbed me because I identified with the protagonist and for that reason it made me sad and angry because of all the horrible things that were done to her. I won't go into details in case you haven't read it. You should if you haven't because it will help you understand how Destiny came to be in the mess she's in now in Destiny Changed. Her captors released her from the terrible prison, only to sell her as a sex slave in a brothel where the cruelty continues.
However, now at least her new owner allows her to have sex - actually she is forced to have sex with whomever her owner sells her services. She is even mind-controlled to enjoy it! Wow, does she ever have sex! These are by far the best sex scenes Giulia has ever written, both hetero and lesbian type. Don't get me wrong, it's not porn. Giulia is telling us a story -- a great story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. This book is the middle part and it's set in a brothel. How can it help but describe the sex that would naturally occur in such a place? Will it arouse you? Oh yes, it will certainly do that! But so much more than merely titillating, the story of Destiny and how she is changed into Fatina -- the greatest prostitute in the Middle East, possibly the best prostitute of all time -- will grab you and keep you turning pages even more avidly than the sex scenes. It transcends any genre label in ways that can't be given any label.
