Some small towns need more security than others, that's how Bluegrass Security came to be.
One retired military officer. Plus one sassy detective. Equals a race for answers and desire.
Building the Bluegrass Security business in a small town is the perfect opportunity for Sam "Mac" McKenzie to settle down and plant his roots once and for all. But a one-night-stand with a beautiful and feisty detective leads him to an investigation that changes everything.
Bourbon-loving Stevie Jorgenson loves a hot case--and a hot man. But her latest case hits a little too close to home. With prize-winning horses ending up dead days before the Kentucky Derby, Stevie knows she has to act fast. Enlisting the help of the sexy and rugged security investigator is her only option. Sparks fly while they unearth answers they never expected. As the finish line nears, are Stevie and Mac racing for more than they ever bargained for?
I was born in a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri named Bridgeton. During my time in Missouri, I explored the Ozarks, swam in the Mississippi River, played kickball and endless games of hide and seek with the neighborhood kids. Spending summers in Kentucky with my Grandmother, Ruth, are the fondest childhood memories for me.
At the age of thirteen, my family moved to Wisconsin to learn to farm. Yes, learn to farm! That was interesting. Taking city kids and throwing them on a farm with twenty-eight cows purchased from the Humane Society because they had been abused, was interesting. I learned to milk cows, the ins and outs of a breeding schedule, feeding schedule and the never ending haying in the summer and trying to stay warm in the winter. Our first winter in Wisconsin, we had thirty-six inches of snow in one storm and were snowed in our house for three days! Needless to say, I wasn’t loving Wisconsin.
I am now married with four children and three grandchildren. I have learned to love Wisconsin, though I still hate snow. Wisconsin and the United States are beautiful and my husband and I travel around by motorcycle seeing new sites and meeting new people. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are interested in where we are going and what we have seen along the way. At every gas station, restaurant and hotel, we have people come up to us and ask us about what we are doing and offering advice on which roads in the area are better than others and great rides others have been on if we are interested.
I come from a family of veterans. My grandfather, father, brother and two of my sons and one daughter-in-law are all veterans. Needless to say, I am proud. Proud to be an American and proud of the service my amazing family has given.
It was a good book. They had problems but they went and solved them. Stevie was a bad ass, I liked her and Mac was just obsessed with her and I was all here for it

4/5 STORY ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 NARRATION 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 2/5 SPICE 🌶️🌶️
Small Town Romance Detective Badass MFC Ex Military MMC Security
Finish Line was different in the since the MFC was the detective and I loved her sas. Of course it was a big bonus that the MMC was a hottie. This audio was a quick listen. It had just the right amount of spice and a plot too. I would have liked to know who hurt Ammo and had Mac kick some ASS. But maybe in book 3. I would recommend this audiobook.
The second book in the series can be read as standalone. Prior events are explained, and the character relationships are clear.
Stevie is a smart, independent woman, and also a detective, more than capable of protecting herself. I liked Sam in the first book. He acts a bit like a jerk at times in this story, but he loves his dog, so I cut him some slack. :)
This is an insta-lust story, and the chemistry is there. Stevie and Sam have some trust issues and personal problems to work through, and the mystery of horse poisonings to solve before they get their happily ever after. They do get there in the end, but only after some action, drama, and misunderstandings. There was more of a sense of danger in this story than the last one.
Troy Duran and Rose Dioro made listening to the story a pleasure.
This series each book better then the last - gotta love that.
The cast of characters you will fall for & want to know more.
Book 1: Heart Thief - Levi left the mitary but not without scares. He lucky to be alive but instead of grabbing it with gusto he is hiding out in a small town for peace & quiet & start a business. Sage hired on the spot starts off on the wrong foot with Levi. She hates small towns & ready to run & Levi not helping. These two definitely have coals ready to ignite good or bad "wait n see" Book 2: Finish Line - Sam MacKenzie is one of the Bluegrass Security and he needs to get work done. He meets Stevie and sparks fly. He meets her again & discovers she is Detective Stephanie Jorgensen and working together or dying together could be in their future. Book 3: Lethal Love - This was a moving story of Widow Nita whom is the local Hair Stylist & soon SPA owner. She has three grown children & some surprises she not even ready for. Chuck is the person whom everyone enjoys around - just a happy guy. He become a valuable team member to Bluegrass Security. His case or cases are high intense. Sitting on the edge of your seat! V3, S2
Really needs a Book 4/5 for Dirks & Regina's story - just saying!
I really really like this new series by PJ Fiala. This is the second book in the series. Stevie, the heroine, is a detective. The hero, Sam, works for Bluegrass Security. The book starts out in a mystery of race horses dying. It appears as if someone is purposely killing the horses. This mystery throws the hero and heroine together. Sam and Stevie had an instant attraction. This book was very well written with great steam and lots of wonderful conflict! I definitely felt the attraction between the hero and heroine. I enjoyed this story very much. My only complaint was that it was too short. The audiobook narrators did a great job reading this book. I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Finish Line Bluegrass Security, Book Two By: PJ Fiala Narrated by: Rose Dioro, Troy Duran
Always the perfect mix of romance and suspense, PJ Fiala delivers a thrilling story of sabotage and love. Mac and Stevie meet in a bar and have instant chemistry. After a night of passion, they separate, neither really wanting to go, but don't know how to go forward. Well, things bring them together as the recent death of prize horses is increasing. As the detective and Bluegrass Security begin to work together, things begin to fall into place. Does that include Stevie and Mac? Give this a listen to find out! Stevie is a firecracker, and I love her spunk, independence and passion for truth. Mac is swoony, brave and protective, the best kind of hero. This series is a blast to listen to as it makes me think and lets me fall in love!
Narrated by the talents of Troy Duran and Rose Dioro, we are treated to a fantastic story telling. Duran plays the best heroes. As Mac, his voice is commanding at times, and sensual at others. He is the best mix of what I love to listen to. Dioro has a way of falling into each of her characters that makes them realistic and easy to relate to. Stevie is confident in who she is, but insecure when it comes to love. I could feel it with ease, and understand her. These two are a fabulous team!
4.5 stars - I love how this starts with Detective Stephanie "Stevie" Jorgenson taking in the sights of a "tall, dark drink of water" known as "Mac." The yearning and humor of it was an entertaining beginning.
Sam "Mac" McKenzie may be new to town, but when he discovers who he wants to be his welcoming committee, things look up. 😆🔥 I love that they waste little time before things get seriously steamy!
This book flew by! Before I knew it, it was over. I enjoyed the pace and the storyline that unraveled as Bluegrass Security worked on establishing themselves in their new hometown.
I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators are Troy Duran and Rose Dioro. I've listened to many books with these two. I really like them together, but I do wish the narration was in duet. Perhaps, I'll one day get my wish.
Completing the transition to Kentucky, Bluegrass jumps into a horse poisoning investigation. Having installed premium security systems at a number of the horse ranches in Bourbonville, it was natural for an owner to ask Bluegrass for assistance when a rash of horse poisonings occur. Police detective Stevie Jorgenson is asked by her father to investigate. Sam McKenzie of Bluegrass is working on the Jorgenson farm and is surprised to see that Stevie is a member of the famous and affluent family. Trust doesn't come easily for either of them and it causes some trips and false starts in their relationship. There is a happy ending for them in this very spare story that could have used some more fleshing out.
The audiobook was narrated by Troy Duran and Rose Dioro. They did a fabulous job with their performances, and I would give the audio performances 5 stars.
This is the first story I’ve listened to in the Bluegrass Security series and it can be listened to as a stand alone. It actually seemed to be more independent than many other interconnected stand alone series, with little to no obvious spoilers or set up for other books.
Steamy scenes makes up a larger percentage of the story as compared to other PJ Fiala books I’ve listened to, so I would recommend this story for listeners who are looking for more heat than action/suspense.
I received a copy of the audiobook at my request, and the opinions here are my own.
Welcome to Chandler County and to Bluegrass Security! Sam and his partners have a new security business they go for a drink one night at the local bar and Sam lays eyes on Stevie who is trying not to be obvious by her staring at Sam. Stevie is the local police detective in town. They instantly are attracted to each other and the heat rises. Let the story begin this is a hot read by PJ Fiala who never ceases to amaze me and bring the characters to life while reading her books. You will not be disappointed in her work.
There is romance and mystery happening in Chandler County be sure to read this amazing story.
Finish Line is book two in the Bluegrass Security Series. Sam and Stevie have a hit night of fun after meeting in Stevie’s favorite bar. Things become interesting when they meet again on a ranch, after a thoroughbred horse has been poisoned. Stevie is the detective on the case, Sam is installing top the line security cameras. It’s a race to the finish line to figure out who is behind the poisonings, and Sam and Stevie put their feelings aside to work together. The farther into the investigation they get, the more dangerous it becomes. Finish Line is a fast paced read that will have you on the edge of your seat! I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
Grabbed my interest and never let go! Stevie and the smoldering Mac have chemistry that steamed right through the air pods. This was a great listen, combining the mystery behind equine deaths with the sizzling but wary relationship between two interesting main characters. And stirred with a smooth narration. I started listening and went straight through, unwilling to stop before “just one more chapter” ended.
This was my first - but definitely not my last - audiobook by PJ Fiala. Wow! I just started listening to audiobooks a year ago, and I’ve been searching for great listens…this checked all the boxes. Highly recommend. I am providing my honest review, based on a free copy.
This second book in the Bluegrass Security series is an engaging quick read. Sam McKenzie and Stevie Jorgensen have an instant attraction to one another and act on it only to back away. They've both been burned by love in the past so distrust of the opposite sex is everpresent. Small town living, however, has them often at the same place at the same time. She's investigating attacks on prized racehorses in the area. He's installing security systems in the surrounding horse farms. Avoidance of each other is nearly impossible. Eventually they realize their feelings are real but not before a few bumps along the way.
So, the entire team is now living and working in Kentucky, in the heart of horse country. The team went out for a drink one night and an explosion happened when Mac met Stevie at the bar. They quickly hit it off and left for her place. Seems her being a detective and him being in high end security keeps bringing them together frequently. Soon, as their dance continues, they are working on a case together as they try to decide if they should be together. This book was a bit heavy on the bedroom scenes but a good story nonetheless.
This was good but quick listen and the 2nd book in the series. Mac and Stevie meet and have and instant connection but can they work through their issues and see where it goes? Stevie is a Detective and her dad also owns a local horse ranch. Since Mac is a partner in Bluegrass Security and is on the case since a lot of his client’s horses are being targeted. Since Mac and Stevie have similar interest in finding the person poisoning the horses they work together. Will they cross the Finish Line together?
Loved the dual narration of Rose Dioro and Troy Duran. Both perfect for this great book.
One night Sam known as Mac and his partners of a new security business they go for a drink one night at the local bar. It is there that Sam see Stevie. She is the towns police detective. Both try and not to make it obvious that they are both have noticed the other. They are instantly attracted to each other. A case that Stevie is on hits close to home, she enlisting the help of Mac and the sparks fly. hot chemistry.
An entertaining read/listen in the Bluegrass Security series. Book 2. Max is co- owner of the security company. Stevie a detective called to a case of horse poisinings. They have hot attraction with steam. Lots of feels in this book. Animal abuse. Angst. Mystery. Betrayal. Tension. Attraction. Friendship. Narrated by Rose Dioro and Troy Duran. Both excellent narrators. I would have liked to hear more angst in the tense moments. 4 stars for them, too. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through Story Origin.
This is the second book in the Bluegrass Security Series, a Romantic Suspense. I liked Sam/Mac and Stevie's story! Sam/Mac is a retired military officer, and owner of the Bluegrass Security, is very handsome, and protective. Stevie, a sassy detective, is smart, and determined. They are both strong and interesting characters. The storyline is entertaining, and captivating, filled with mystery, action, passion, and twists and turns. Excellent narration from Rose Dioro and Troy Duran. Looking forward to listening to Lethal Love, the next book in the series. #StoryOrigin
This is the 2nd book in this series, and is Sam / Mac and Stevie’s story. Mac is co-owner of Bluegrass Security, and while on a night out to a bar with his friends, he sees bourbon loving detective Stevie, and there is instant attraction between them. These two are total opposite yet so perfect together. This is a well written story which is filled with angst, suspense, love, and is a steamy read. I was intrigued and hooked throughout, and recommend for all.
An intriguing quick listen with a mystery, some action, danger, and suspense as Stephanie "Stevie" and Sam " Mack work to discover who the culprit is in a deadly game. Stevie and Mack meet thinking they'll never see each other again, but when fate has different plans and puts them in each other's orbit they must decide whether to act on their undeniable connection and give love a chance or not... luckily they do and find their HEA. Awesome narration performed by Rose Dioro and Troy Duran.
After a steamy night together the paths of Mac and Stevie cross again when Bluegrass Security has a job on a racing horses farm. Stevie is the detective who's there to investigate the poisoning of several horses in the vicinity. I liked the storyline, Mac and Stevie are a great match, and I loved Mac’s dog Ammo.
This review is based on the audiobook and narrators Troy Duran and Rose Dioro were a pleasure to listen to.
Mac and Stevie had a one night stand (in the early evening) and then circumstances keep throwing them together. Stevie thinks he wants kids because he calls his dog baby, but she can't have kids so she tries to avoid him. They have a lot of ups and down including him doing a thorough investigation in her and after they straighten that out, she thinks he set her up with the bad guys. Will the be able to overcome everything and be together?
I absolutely LOVE Sam and Stevie!!! I haven't yet read any of the other authors within Chandler County but I LOVE every Book P.J Fiala has written to date!!! You get a little bit of everything with Missing the Point, the angst, suspense, lots of love and HOT Steamy scenes that will leave you melting!!
that flows really well. I enjoy PJ Fiala's writing very much and the tight storyline with such great descriptive passages keeps the interest piqued ! A couple of times I had to re-read a passage as I was unsure which POV was applicable, but that probably down to me & my brain !! Recommended this Bluegrass Security wholeheartedly 💕
If you need a quick and steamy romantic thriller, look no further! Mac and Stevie meet and give in to the insta-lust. Then, Stevie gets a call that her dads’s prized racing mare has been poisoned…as has several other ranchers. Now the Bluegrass Security team and Stevie must work together to solve the mystery
Horses are mysteriously being poisoned. Stevie’s father lost one of his horses, which was a contender for the Derby. Mac is setting up security systems . for these equine centers, to protect the horses. Stevie and mac run into each other at a local bar, and chemistry combusts. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This story has suspence, danger to the race horses, and keeps trying to find out what is happening and who is doing this stuff to the diff u farms that raise these horses and how they are getting poisoned keeping you turn the pages to read what happens next, looking forward to reading more books from this author
I didn’t know what to think of Stevie at first as it took a while to really know her. The first encounter with Mac made her look like a wild woman, and she does seem like a free spirit. Then we get into the mystery of the story and the romantic angst goes crazy too. The HEA is joyful and makes this short book well worth the read.
What a great read! Mac and Stevie make quite the pair. Both have been hurt by love before and aren’t sure if they want to pursue their attraction or not. Their story is fast paced and full of twist and turns to keep you reading till the end to see how they find their happiness.
