Winston Beckett is a linguistic scholar, poring over musty manuscripts and ancient translations. That is, before he finds a book of magical runes. Before people start disappearing.
When he deciphers the strange book, Winston discovers a secret so big it throws him into a different world. Literally.
No more grading papers. No more research. No more work. Just him and The Veil, the eerily realistic game world he falls into.
Desperate to find his missing colleagues, Winston must navigate this strange new world, using only his wits to survive. Quests, skills, and loot await him…if he’s up to the task.
Along the way, he’ll need to fight enemies, recruit allies, and go on a journey of magic and adventure. And at the end? Well, let’s just say he won’t be the same person he started as.
Lost Archive is a LitRPG Adventure and first in the VeilWalkers series.
I really wanted to like this book, from the pre-release snippet it seemed quite good so when it was available I was happy to download it. Unfortunately, although the author had a good plot concept using some proven plot devices, about halfway through it started to get very rushed. And what little plot cohesion there was quickly fell apart… I won't spoil the ending but it wraps up so quickly and so poorly that it almost appears the author lost interest in finishing the story.
I kept reading because I thought it would get better. It wasn't horrible or even badly edited, it was just a stupid story. It was short enough that I actually finished the book and all that I can say about the characters and plot is blah. Nothing terribly interesting or really worth reading. Don't waste your time.
Don't bother with it it isn't good (though I think the beginning wasn't as bad.) I had some hope that an Academic could make an interesting MC but he becomes such a generic LitRPG MC once he switches worlds. Anyway the main weaknesses are probably crappy character writing and that the dialog was quite a few times of for the actual situation/story
The book isn't the worst thing I have ever read but it has nothing redeeming to make it worth reading.
Not a bad book, but it suffers from a lot of typical first book in a series faults. It doesn't really flush out the world all that much, it ends abruptly with nothing resolved, the main antagonist claims he wants to return to the real world but can't because of energy differences, then promptly sends the main character back? WTF? What about all that energy exchange he just spent all that time talking about? So, we have a relatively good story that should be a book, that is written like a short story, that ends with our main character swearing vengeance on the guy who basically created the world he was in, who says returning isn't am option without causing all kinds of problems who then promptly causes the very thing he was trying so hard to prevent. Can you say out of character? What's the point? If the author was trying to create a confusing world of crosspurposes, he succeeded admirably, if on the other hand he wanted to build a world of believable characters with depth and reality, then he still has some work to do in future series installments to make up for the shortcomings in this one.
Action, Academic, sarcasm, stong female characters? I'm in! I thought this book was really fun and great for a new litrpg author. Great adventure with a plot twist that I have to read the next book to find out about. I loved how kick ass the female characters were! I'm a big fan of litrpg books. Read over 25. The main male character has an awesome ability I really want to read more about. That's all I can say about that. Can't write any spoilers! 😂 Character was funny. I laughed so hard several times. We all been that noob who swore we was level 200. 😂 And you yes you getting older and trying to game would be funny too! I wished it was longer book it was that fun! 4.5 for being funny, deliciously sarcastic and just different from the top 25 reccomended litrpg books.
I'm going to say that the MC was a bit of a turn off for me in this book. The other characters didn't really get fleshed out. I kept reading hoping it would get better the longer I read and it's like it almost does and then it stops right before it gets to its feet. This isn't a bad book, but it's not a great one either. The characters are pretty much paper thin. All of them. And it's a run of the mill story. Man gets transported to another world, complains about how bad his old world is, but then wants to go back the entire book. The villain is secretly evil for reasons only know to them, and that's about it.
I enjoyed this story up to the end. This ending sucks because it came out of nowhere. The story's good and l do recommend it to be read best of luck and good results reading this novel
Winter takes us on a short tale into a magic land, but with a twist. I enjoyed his use of runes and the unique approach it brought. I do wish this were much longer as it consistently felt like things could have been expanded far more than they were.
A LitRPG story. A interesting story of being transferred into a game world. The story ends with some interesting new about the main character experience up towards the story’s end.
I enjoyed the story line. The writing, story details, and character development we're not the most advanced though. The book seemed to gloss over huge portion of the action and then later refer to something that never happened.
Lost Archive was slow to me at first but once it got going it sucked me in. Only complaint I really have is some parts got super repetitive but that aside I look forward to continuing the series and seeing how it unfolds.
This book was so fun to read, especially once The Game started. Who knew that reading a game in clever novel form could be even more fun than grinding for hours on a console?
The story has promise but the book feels rushed. It races through scenes without a pause to explain things and settle down. Character's reaction did not seem very realistic to me. The end was particularly weird and did not match with what the "bad guy" said he wanted just pages before. Overall the book felt too short as well, like a full books worth was squished jnto 1/3 book length.
Just wasn't for me. Decided after finishing it that it was a bit rushed, the MC was continuously falling into the next event, and there were several holes with Mabel and The Author.
I have read several litrpg style books and found this one quite fun I could not stop till I got to the end. the characters were interesting the back story was fun just too fast I look forward to. More in the future
I was pretty impressed with the first chapter. It really got me into the adventure mood. The book itself felt short. I found it well done, with enough RPG elements in play to get that in the game feeling. Definitely good enough to make wish for the next book. I'd like to request more surprises for the next book.
