Josephine Dalton drove into blinding snow, the most precious thing in the world sleeping in the backseat when the whole world shattered around her, sending her car careening off the edge of the world and almost taking her life.
Kirk Fenn was out enjoying a night of shifting, enjoying the feel of his paws in the snow when an accident changed his world forever. He blamed himself for the horrible crash that nearly killed Rory's mother. It was the least he could do to keep her daughter safe. Especially when her mother's last words before she lost consciousness were, "Don't let him have her."
Yet, when Josephine comes to stay with Kirk to recover from her injuries, a strange attraction begins to flourish, and Kirk finds himself staring at Josephine's backside more often than not. Despite Josephine's dour mood, she doesn't seem to mind his looking.
Yet the troubles that brought Joe to that snow covered road are tracking her even now. Can they overcome the secrets that brought them both to that snowy hillside in the middle of the night, or will Josephine's past come back to destroy Kirk's present?
Michaela Carr is an American author and wiseass with a love for Shifter romance. She spent summers listening to the lobster boats coming in on the harbor in Downeast Maine and now tells tales of The Bears of Blackrock - a shifter clan who call the quiet rural community home. A pen name of Michaela Wright, Carr is the place to find steamy and dark stories about proud shifters and the lucky ladies that get to call them 'mate.' And soon, those shifters might have to contend with a whole new world of Sups.
Michaela lives in Chelmsford, Massachusetts with her daughter and a brood of animals, including cats named Archimedes, Poet, and Neptune. When she isn't writing, she's listening to New Wave, singing loudly while driving around aimlessly, Feng Shuiing her kitchen, and cooking up the best damn steak you'll ever taste.
You can also find Michaela's Contemporary and Gothic Romance titles under Michaela Wright. Both Wright and Carr titles can be found at her website.
HFN Series, interconnected characters but no cliffhanger. Each book has its own couple's story.

Characters Kirk (mmc, bear) Josephine (Joe, mfc) Rory (10 yr old child of Josephine) Carson (father of Rory, felon) Patrick Fenn (grandpa and head of Fenn family) Officer Davenport (harassing cop)
Kirk was briefly mentioned in book 1 and this is his story. As a bear, he caused a car accident that almost killed Joe. She was in a coma for 2 months, while he kept Rory safe. The hospital won't release her unless she goes home with Kirk. Rory saw what he was the night of the accident, but Joe has no idea. The longer she stays with him, the stronger the attraction between them grows. But Joe's past is coming for her and for Rory. And its going to change everything Joe thought she knew. Will they all survive? Can he forgive her for bringing this trouble?
Fast paced shifter story that does not use the usual "one true mate" troupe. Really hoping Davenport gets his, he gives police a bad name. Looking forward to the next story. No noticed typos.
I received a free copy of this book however all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own. I love this series (as I do all of Michaela's books!). This one follows Kirk, John's (from the first book) cousin, and his love story with Joe/Theresa. As per normal though that's not the only plot line within the book and we're yet again looking at murder but this time alongside arson, abuse, accidents and a lil girl called Rory.
I liked it a lot! It’s a pretty fast paced story and keeps you interested the whole time but I felt like the very end was a bit rushed! (You find out she’s pregnant and doesn’t know how to tell him and then he mentions being a dad in his thoughts….but no correlation to how she told him or when)
Joe is on the run from an abusive ex and runs into Kirk. I love the small town vibe this book gives off!

OMG This is the most amazing book!!! It had my heart racing throughout the whole book!!! It was like watching a HD thriller film in my head....awesome, awesome, awesome!!!
The storyline to this book was so riveting, I couldn't stop reading, couldn't keep my eyes off the pages, I cant explain how truly engrossing this book is!!! There are elements of this book that a lot of people find hard to look at and really commend the authors on writing about the very hard topic of abuse and how you can find a way out of that way of living, I think its truly an amazing thing to bring to the forefront what some people suffer through. The story is filled with action, with pain and fear but also filled with love, with hope and the joy of feeling safe. The way this story was written is so believable and realistic in all the different aspects of the book, from the landscape, to the characters to all the feelings throughout.
My heart really goes out to the character of Joe, as you are reading this story you feel the emotions with her, her fear, her pain, her worries but also how she starts to let trust and hope into her heart. How she is so protective of her daughter and how her daughter comes before everything, even her own safety. She is an amazing mother and I love to read that, she has no idea of the strength hidden inside of her, she really is an awe-inspiring character, even now writing this review I am getting emotional as that is how much the character touched me, she will definitely stay with me for a long long time!!! Kirk is the most perfect character to complement Joe, the sort of man he is. He is caring and protective of those he cares about and those in his care, he gives off a air of power, of being the ultimate alpha protector. I love how the whole family congregates around each other and they are always there to support and care for each other, that is a joy to read!
This book hsd created so many emotions in me, I want to share this book with the world...This is a MUST READ for all!!! So seriously run out and get this book!!! I cant wait to read the next book!!!
Loved this book. I was drawn in from tge beginning. We meet a woman on the run. She is hurt and is rescued as well as her daughter. Can she trust this man? What happens when her past catches up with her? What will happen next?
I really wanted to like this. I did. But it fell so flat. I just couldn't get into it. The H was just not what I expected and don't get me started on the h. Good lord.
Who wouldn’t love a protective man that turns into a bear? I understand Joe’s problems but the way she talked to him I wanted to slap her. It is a good read.
Book #2 in this series is far and away better than the first. The first was dark and weird, but this one was well-thought out, well-paced, balanced, sweet, hot and romantic. In short, this story was everything you hoped to find in a shifter romance. The only part that bothered me was anatomical: the appendix is not in the chest, nor can its placement be confused for the chest area. Still 5 stars.
BEARLY BURNING-Blackrock Bears-Book 2- A heart melting romantic story.

Josephine was headed towards Canada with her daughter to escape the clutches of her abusive psycho ex-boyfriend when she has a horrible car accident in a snowstorm in Blackrock. Kirk saves both the daughter and mom feeling awful since he was the cause of their accident. Kirk has been a foster parent for years and ends up taking in both of them. Joe and Rory are catapulted into whole new world.
SPECTACULAR well written read by truly gifted authors. This is such a heart-warming story that will have you laughing, tearing up, and cheering for the praise-worthy characters. The fusion of authenticity and fantasy make this story impressive and a joy to read. The plot and scene descriptions keep you glued to story till the conclusion. Kirk’s devotion for Joe and Rory is unwavering, and he is a most valiant hero. I adored this story, a most gratifying read . If you treasure shifter romance this book is a terrific addition to your library. {I received a copy of this book for a completely honest review}. In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are endless and always fascinating. Without reservations I recommend this book.
This is the first book I have read of Alana Hart and Michaela Wright. I love reading books by authors that are new to me. It gives me a chance to see if i have new avenues to read. "Bearly Burning" really works on your emotions. You cry, laugh, get mad and want to hurt the man that reminds you of Satan himself. Your emotions just flood you over with each character and what they are feeling.
Josephine Dalton is on the run from what would call the "Spawn of Satan". The man who literally ruined Josephine's life because she had to take her daughter on the run to keep them safe. She is driving in a bad snow storm and then all of a sudden your life is shattered when the car crashes and almost takes Josephine's life.
Kirk Fenn was out enjoying a romp in the snow in his bear when an accident changed his world forever. He could not help but to blame himself for the car crash that nearly killed Josephine and her daughter Rory. He felt obligated to keep Rory safe when Josephine's last words before she passed out were "Don't let him have her."
Kirk finds himself draw to Josephine even though she is cold and actually mean to him. Kirk know that her reasons for her actions is because of what she is running from. It does not stop him from admiring her and the constant looks at her backside. Even though Josephine is in a bad mood, she doesn't seem to mind his looking.
With the reason for Josephine's need to hide still looking for her, can she and Kirk have any type of relationship? Can they overcome the secrets that brought them together on the hillside? But most of all will Josephine's past destroy their future?
There is lots of suspense in this book. You definitely need to read this book. I recommend it.
Bearly burning by Michaela Wright. Josephine Dalton has one goal - take her daughter and run. Yet, when a close road encounter with a bear sends her car careening off a cliff toward the Atlantic, it looks like she won't be running anytime soon. She's lucky to be alive. Kirk Fenn was out enjoying a night of shifting and the feel of his paws in the snow when an accident changed his world forever. He blamed himself for the horrible crash that nearly killed Rory's mother. It was the least he could do to keep her daughter safe. Especially when her mother's last words before she lost consciousness were, "Don't let him have her." Yet, when Josephine comes to stay with Kirk to recover from her injuries, an undeniable attraction begins to flourish. The distrusting Josephine is the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, and soon Kirk finds himself staring at her backside more often than he'd. Despite Josephine's dower mood, she doesn't seem to mind his looking. After years of fear and running, how could this rugged stranger make her feel so safe? Yet the troubles that brought Joe to that snow-covered road are tracking her even now. Can they overcome the secrets that brought them both to that snowy hillside in the middle of the night, or will Josephine's past come back to destroy Kirk's prese This was a fantastic read I loved the story and the characters. Especially Josephine. Looking forward to the next book. 5*.
Alana Hart and Michaela Wright have come together again to add to their Men In Charge series with Bearly Burning. Nearly Burning is part of their successful series The Bears of Blackrock. Alana and Michaela are on the cutting edge of exposing the truth about how being at the mercy of an abusive partner can change someone forever. They are also hopeful romantics because they believe in happy ending. In Bearly Burning, we encounter Josephine and her daughter Rory. They are on the run hiding from Rory's ex con father. Kirk is one the Grizzly bear shifters that call Blackrock their home. He is Patrick Fenn's grandson. This can be read as a stand alone book but it helps to read the other Blackrock books to better understand all the characters. With each of these books the authors are getting more comfortable writing together and expressing how they feel their characters would act. I'm grateful to them for showing those out here that everyone deserves a happily ever after. I'm looking forward to reading Deacon's story next. I received an ARC for my honest review.
Title: Bearly Burning Blackrock Bears - Book Two Men In Charge Authors: Alana Hart & Michaela Wright Reviewer: Stephanie Jordan #Paranormal #BearShifter ▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪¤¤¤▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪▪ This is my first time for these authors, and I enjoyed this read except one thing. The abuse this women sustained was mentally and physically brutal. And anyone would be a basket case. But she had 10 years to deal with her mental subtleties, she broke down crying thru half of the book. Being a basket case wasn't helping her daughter. Yet maybe the love of a man and his family helped stiffen her backbone. I loved the characters as they all embraced Joe and Rory, especially Kirk Fenns who gave her a place to live, the family together gave her a job. Of course the brothers, sisters, cousins, Dad and Grandpa Fenns wanted her to stay for protection. I recommending this book it's a Must Read even if I would have liked the Heroine to stand up and fight. You still see the love. I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful review.
I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
In this book we get Kirk Fenn's story and are introduced to Josephine "Joe" Dalton. Joe is on the run from a man she never wants to see again. So when she tries to get her and her daughter to a motel after a long days drive she almost hits a bear. Kirk knows that it is his fault she ended up in a near fatal accident. So he does as she says and keeps her daughter safe. What happens though when two people who aren't looking for love find something the didn't know they were looking for? Will they find a HEA or will outside forces make sure that will never happen?
This is an amazing story. It does have its share of ups and downs that I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin it for any other readers. I will say that this book will grab you from the first word and not let go till the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Josephine is running away with her daughter from her abusive ex, she’s driving through the snow in Maine when suddenly she swerves her car from hitting a bear then the car goes off the road. Kirk was nearly hit by a car when he was in his bear form he shifts back and goes over to help. There’s a little girl in the back of the car but the woman is badly injured and just before she passes out she asks this man to look after her daughter because her ex wants her and Kirk promises that he will, he’s looked after kids before so he knows what to do. Josephine’s ex finds them but will Kirk protect them from this nasty piece of work?. I love shifter stories and this is one of the good ones I really enjoyed reading it. A fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
I have this thing about Bear shifters who are strong and save folks..... especially ones who take care of children. I LOVE THEM. In this book bear shifter Kirk rescues Rory and her mom Joe (who is going by an assumed name) from a car wreck that his bear caused. He ends up fostering Rory (the daughter) while the mom is in a coma and recovering from her injuries. We get to see his soft side with Rory.
Joe on the other hand when she wakes up we see panic..fear and I for one understand. This book touches my heart and gut as my family is living this situation right now. I think this story is well written and told with just the right amount of heat. It kept me drawn in the entire book. I am ready to read more from this set of authors!
This is a great addition to the Bears of Blackrock series. Each book has a theme, whether it's a reunion story, coming home, or in this case, a man in charge. And each one features a different couple and has an HEA.
Josephine is on the run toward Canada with her ten year old daughter, Rory, trying to escape her abuser who has been released early from prison for good behavior. Kirk Fenn heads his grandfather's construction company and is a bear shifter and volunteer fireman. An accident on a slick road in a blinding snow storm brought them together, but the abusive man from her past has once again found her and threatens to rip apart the happiness she has found in Blackrock. A KU library read.
Joe is driving along unfamiliar roads in Maine, with her daughter Rory, trying to find the Blackrock Inn and Tavern. It's snowing and she can bearly see. Out of nowhere, a bear appears in the road. Joe swerves to miss and flys off the side of the road.
Kirk is playing in the new fallen snow in his bear form when he accidentally causes a mother and child to dive off the road. What can he do? He shifts back to human form in front of the little girl in order to get to her and her mom before the car goes up in flames.
Will Joe be ok? Will Rory tell Kirk's secret? Will the sinister being hunting Joe and Rory catch up with them in Maine? Can Kirk protect them? Read to find out.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have read lots of books by Alana Hart, and have enjoyed reading every one of them, as is the case of this one too. Joe and her daughter are running from a dangerous man that is also her daughter's father, when she swerves to keep from hitting a bear. This causes her to wreck. Kirk is a large, sexy bear shifter that comes to her rescue. While Joe is in the hospital in a coma, Kirk is taking care of her daughter. When she gets out, what is going to happen? She has to protect her child from her daughter. This is a very well-written book that is hard to put down. I received this book free in return for an honest review, and I highly recommend it.
I loved Kirk from the first moment he appeared. Josephine and Rory are also very interesting characters, I loved Rory's cleverness. Joe is running away with her daughter of her threatening past when they suffer a terrible accident and Kirk appears to rescue them. Kirk and Rory's interaction is perfect. And when Joe finally recovers and goes to Kirk's house, things get very interesting. When the threat knocks at Kirk and Joe's door, they will fight tooth and nail to get rid of it once and for all. I really loved this story and to know a little more of what happened to the other characters. I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This series, The Bears of Blackrock, is so good! 💖
This is the second book in series and although some of the characters float in from the first book, it can easily be read as a stand-alone. In this book, Joe is on the run with her daughter, Rory, when they get caught in a snowstorm and have a serious car accident. Kirk is in bear form and sees the whole thing happen. This romance is about learning to trust and love after bad things happen. It's full of healing, passion, love, and bears.💕💗🐻😍💕

Gripping shifter romance, full of love, healing, and laughter, but with a a dark side also. Josephine and her daughter Rory are on the run from an evil man, but their plans go up in flames when they are in a car crash. Bear shifter Kirk inadvertently causes the crash while he is bear form and will do anything to make up for it, even have Joe and Rory live with him until they can recover. He more time they spend with each other, the closer they get, but will the evil from Joe and Rory's past catch up to them? I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a well written fast paced read with a great storyline, strong characters that bring out all possible emotions in the reader. Loved the patience Kirk shows no matter how dire the circumstances. Loved the protectiveness Joe has towards Rory and Kirk and she is willing to do whatever it takes to keep them both safe and to finally believe that good men do exist.
This was my first book by these authors and was impressed. Looking forward to the first one in the Blackrock Bears as well as future books.
This is also the first book in Alpha Shifters Spring
I love this series and the Fenn ‘bears’ men. This book is emotionally deep and beautiful, wonderfully written, sweet and consistent! Some scenes are heart-wrenching, some are heartfelt and some are really hot and steamy. It is funny, witty, exciting, fast pace, and very interesting. It is packed with violent suspense, danger around every corner, and heart-racing adventure. The chemistry between the characters is and hot and together they balance each other perfectly. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second book of the series but can easily be read as a stand-alone. The book takes its time to let you really get to know the main characters. To see and feel the pain they are in and are trying to get past. She is escaping a dangerous past with her sweet and very smart daughter. He happens to be in the right place to both save them from and accident and to help them make a future. They definitely don’t start out falling for each other. But the romance does build up. How can she resist a man as wonderful as him? But his secret of what he and his family are might be too much.
Bearly Burning by Michaela Wright and Alana Hart Note that I got this story in return for an honest review. I’ve now read a couple of stories about the Fenn family and I like them. The characters grow on you, even grumbly old grandfather. In fact in this story you can actually see that he does have a heart and a soft side. There are many other family members that I hope will get their own stories.
I absolutely loved this book!!! This is boom 2 in the Men in Charge series by Alana Hare & Michaela Wright. This book is just as good if not better than the first. It is emotionally charged and has you really feeling like you are with the characters as the story unfolds. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another amazing story in Alana Hart's collection. Kirk is so patient and loving and Josephine is a basket case most of the time. Makes you wonder if he'll ever be able to get her to realize that he'd never let anything happen to her and her daughter. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review
Kirk was out enjoying himself in bear form when a car almost hit him. The person in that car was Josephine and her daughter Rory. Josephine is on the run from her abusive ex. While Josephine is recovering in the hospital Kirk takes care of Rory. I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the storyline and plot. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
