The Bear Detective’s Mate

Rate this book
A personal assistant who comes under attack PLUS a hot Bear detective assigned to protect her PLUS a conspiracy they have to uncover!

Curvy Ana Medina is sick of unlucky romances and focuses on her job - being the PA to a Senator fighting for Shifter Rights. But they have enemies and when there’s an assassination attack on the Senator and herself, she is put in protective custody.

Detective Joseph Baker has found his mate. At least, that’s what his Bear tells him. Joseph doesn’t want a mate, but no matter how he tells his Bear to shut up, he can’t help himself when he’s around her. He’s supposed to protect her, but her luscious curves, delicious scent and mocha-kissed skin call out to him.

Police rules forbid intimacy between the two, which proves to be a challenge. All Ana can think about is the muscles that ripple all over him, his dress shirt that stretches over his perfect pecs and those buttons strained to keep it closed. Too bad he’s proving himself to be a class-A jerk.

Joseph tries to protect her any way he can but the attackers will stop at nothing and Ana and Joseph have to work together to uncover a conspiracy, even if that means that Joseph has to pretend to be her boyfriend.

Can they resist the undeniable attraction to each other? Will they stay alive under the string of attacks? And can they find out who the enemy is?

NOTE: This book includes 5 bonus stories!

This is a 62-page stand-alone story with an HEA, so no cliff-hangers! It contains plenty of action, lust and steamy love scenes and is definitely intended for 18+ readers.

This book is fine. I enjoyed the stories but I am not a huge fan of short stories. These were well written and kept my attention but they were lacking. Each story could have been expanded upon and a more in-depth book could have been written. The characters are great and the plot ideas are interesting. I feel that this author was talented enough that a full length book for each story could have been six 5 star reads. Honestly, I would walk away from most short stories and wouldn't give them the time of day. I didn't realize that this was short stories because I only briefly looked at the synopsis. Since I started it for a GR challenge, I felt the need to finish it. I don't know about other readers but I prefer a full, fleshed out book over a short story. It might be a 100 page book or a 900 page book but it is so much better than a short story that is over in minutes. I want to learn about the characters and the worlds they live in. I want to root for the characters and cheer when they overcome their obstacles. You just don't get that connection to the characters in a short story. That is what I was lacking in this book.. the connection to the characters. Overall, they are good as short stories go but I will be sure to check if it is a full length book or not next time I choose something by this author.

I have never been disappointed by anything by T.S. Ryder. Love her books. This one was very exciting as it included Joseph, a bear and a detective who is sent to protect Ana (a human) and her boss and shifter Senator Seth Fischer. Only to find out that Ana is his mate. Not only that but they are in serious trouble, kidnapping, murder, and now he has a mate. Exciting story, love shifter rights...

I really enjoyed reading the interactions between Ana and Joseph. There were so many funny parts between the main characters and the thoughts that they were trying to deny. An all around fun story! I forgot to mention the dog and moose shifters!!! Another two firsts for me!!! JUST FULL OF AWESOMENESS!!!

Joseph is a police detective with a personal stake in the case

When someone tries to kill Ana's boss, a Senator, her life starts tumbling out of control. This story has some interesting world building, and highlights a lot of important issues, including equality, how people treat one another, expectations and assumptions, and the importance of standing with and for others.

The Bear Detective's Mate

Enjoyed the story. Plenty of suspense and action. Joseph knows Ana is his mate. Or should I say his bear knows but he keeps denying it. After an attempt on Ana's life Joseph has to keep her in protective custody to keep her safe.

I liked this book but the author cut it short in places. This book was easy to read and enjoyable. I would recommend it to friends and family.
