But does she really sense things in the dark? Or it all in her mind? When the Posse investigates the reburial of a Revolutionary War hero, Mary Catherine's past returns to haunt her. Some things won't stay buried, and she has to face them to protect herself, her son, and her unborn baby. Will the dark win this time? Something in the Dark Series Hearing Things "…is a blast! It sucked me in and refused to let go…Nancy Young has a great voice, funny and heart-touching by turns."—New York Times Bestselling Author Angela Knight. Seeing Things "a smart, sexy, and frightening novel"—from Best Book I Read This Year, NCSU Libraries
Nancy Young’s novel, SENSING THINGS, is the third installment in the Something in the Dark Series. The story continues the adventures of paranormal sensitive Mary Catherine Livingston. Mary Catherine has a gift—she can see the spirits of the deceased, even talk to spirits of close relatives like her mother. I can’t even imagine that.
When Mary Catherine joins a paranormal support group to help her cope with her “gift”, her past becomes fodder for every self-righteous, religious nut case within striking distance. Now she’s receiving anonymous death threats. It can’t get any worse, can it? Unfortunately, yes. On her wedding night, Mary Catherine is forced to face a dark entity in a haunted hotel. And, it seems to have followed her after she’s left the premises.
Complicating matters is Mary Catherine’s personal life including her insecurity dealing with her Fiancé Tony Proforta, her ex-spouse David, and her difficult son DJ. Ms. Young’s inclusion of some well-timed humor added to the enjoyment. I was hooked from the very beginning. The plot was interesting with characters that were well developed with unique and interesting but believable personalities. The story was well organized, well written, and professionally edited. I highly recommend this novel.
Mary Catherine's life is so complicated! As she struggles with the past (her and her mother's sensitivities to the 'other world' and the events that were and are a result) and the future (a Valentines Day wedding and a baby girl on the way!),she can barely cope with the present. Mary Catherine also has a rocky relationship with her teenage son. She is surrounded, however, by family and friends who care deeply about her, and even a cat who protects her when the dark threatens. And of course, there is Tony. Mary Catherine learns that the complications of life can't compete with the simplicity of love in all its forms. Enjoy the third book in Nancy Young's Something In The Dark Series! It is another wild, sexy, and ghostly ride! With a bang of an ending!
The final chapter in the series and we get to see Mary Catherine finally accept her abilities and get some happiness in her life. The divorced protagonist with ghostly visions finds a new love in book 1, Seeing Things, and this blue-collar guy makes her feel worthwhile. After a lot of ups and downs while debunking, (or proving) ghost stories, both Tony and Mary Catherine find their stride in this last episode. This book has humor, suspense and romance all wrapped up with a sense of colorful history. At times, the book edges into literary prose which some may not appreciate, but a good plot line and humorous scenes move the story along. If you enjoy quality reads, you'll get these nuances.
