Scarred mentally and physical from his time in the service, Liam Roger’s job at Southerland Security helped him find his way back to a world he thought he lost. He’s starting to live again—maybe even find some happiness. Until he gets stuck on the farm of crunchy granola eater Andy Stuart who pushes all his buttons in the right order. The hot little tree hugger might be exactly what his body wants, but his brain knows better.
Andy’s done a lifetime of things she’s not proud of, and running the farm for veterans is her way of trying to atone. She’ll give it everything she’s got but she has no intention of giving the sexy former marine who’s parked himself in the middle of her peaceful kingdom anything. If he wakes up feelings she thought she’d long buried, she’ll figure out how to cover them again.
With fields of secrets between them and their pasts coming home to roost, there’s more pushing them apart than holding them together. Only one thing is sure…
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Evelyn Adams loves coffee, her kids, Netflix, and books. Not necessarily in that order. If she's not writing steamy romances, she's chasing kids, reading, or binging Mrs Maisel
I am enjoying the Southerland Security books, and this one is no exception. Liam Rogers has to get away for a while, on the instructions of his boss, Emerson Southerland. The case Liam has been working on is coming to trial, and Emerson is concerned that the mob boss will be seeking revenge on the man who caught him. As he has to go away, he decides to go and spend a few days with an army veteran he had served with, and was concerned about. He arrives at the farm where jake is working. The owner, Andy, provides work for army veterans with problems, a pleasant environment with no outside pressures where they can recover from their mental and physical injuries. When Liam arrives and sees the bumbler sticker on Andy 's car "Give Peas a Chance" he has all sorts of thoughts about the idiot this guy must be, so the beautiful Andrea is quite a shock to him! Even more of a shock is finding himself spending the afternoon planting out lettuce seedlings, he is amazed that his huge hands can even tease the tiny plants apart without dstroying them.
He realises that Jake is not in a good place mentally, it would not be sensible to take him away from the farm, but he wants to help him so he stays on, doing odd jobs around the farm, getting more and more attracted to Andy as time passes. She feels the same, but has issues of her own.
The scene where she goes to the rescue centre to try and find a guard dog to look after her goats is priceless! you need to read it to find out why. The story moves easily between poignancy and humour, and emotion, and feels very real. Of course, Liam's working life catches up with him, and causes a problem on the farm. Andy rescues him from the bad guy in what reads as a very funny way, although a bit scary at they same time. Suffice to say it will give his colleagues something to laugh at for a long time!
I always fall for the heroes in this author's books, but there's something special and vulnerable about Liam. He may be a big hulk of a man, but he has a tender spot when it comes to his friends from the service and also when it comes to Andy. I love that vulnerability because it makes him human. When Liam is told to make himself scarce before a trial revolving around a dangerous criminal he helped to bring to justice, he heads out to Andy's (Andrea) farm to see a veteran he served with overseas. Her farm houses veterans with PTSD and other disabilities, assisting them in their return to civilian society. Liam's friend, Jake, is having an especially difficult time, and Liam is there to help. One thing he didn't count on, though, was the owner to be a beautiful woman who haunts his dreams. She has her secrets that she tries to hide along with her attraction to the man who has come to help with one of the men living on her farm. Of course, nothing is easy, and chaos ensues, putting everyone in danger of more than just losing their hearts.
The author's Southerland Security series is turning out to be one of my favorites. These alpha males are not only the best at their jobs, but they each have thick walls around their hearts that always take the most persistent of women to break through. Ms Adams always throws in humor along with the heartfelt moments that make up her stories. Her characters' back stories are relevant and each minor character is an important key to the story. She had delivered another successful heated romance that leaves you sated and looking forward to the next one.
Liam Rogers works for Southerland Security and his boss made him take some time off work. Andy (short for Andrea) Stuart's farm, Sourwood, was where veterans were welcomed when they came home, to live and worked the farm while trying to heal. One of the men staying at Andy's, Jake, was having a hard time adjusting to civilian life. He asked Liam to come to the farm to spend some time with him as they had been in the same unit together. Andy was caught off guard when Liam showed up--she was attracted to him, but didn't want to be so she was not very nice to him. She was glad that he was there to help Jake. All the people who came to the farm had ghosts in their past to get over, Andy included. There was also a suspenseful time in the book. I enjoyed watching Liam and Andy dance around each other and fall in love. Andy had some ghosts she was trying to make amends with and worked herself hard. This is a good book and I encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
I am thoroughly enjoying the Southerland Security series and this latest book is no exception. Liam works for Southerland Security and has been dealing with physical and emotional scars from his time in the service. When he’s forced to take a vacation, he goes to check on Jeff, another veteran who is dealing with his own issues and is living and working on a farm. The farm is owned by Andy, who Liam assumes is a man (wrong!) and has several other people there who have had things in their past they have to deal with. Untrusting at first, Liam stays at the farm to help Jeff and investigate what the farm and Andy are all about. It’s a great story, with the bonus of bringing out the issues many of our veterans are dealing with. This is my favorite of the series!!!
If you love a good series then these are great. They’re a good honest romp with a big loving family cast but each book stands alone beautifully so there are no worries about reading out of sequence. Andy is another strong badass woman making her way and making amends for her past. Liam is tough, capable, damaged, and has this delightful vulnerability. Their story could have been trite, but it’s handled well. Enough tenderness, laughter, action and suspense to keep things entertaining.
I’m deeply disappointed that this book, although I didn’t really read much, was full of crude sex thinking, using foul language and creating images through words. Pure lust. Despite is being set in an potentially interesting place and one for returning soldiers to heal and try to readjust to civilian life among fellow soldiers, it was ruined and almost totally focused on crude lustful sexual outcomes for the main two characters. Ok I know some people love this, but I and many others don’t. Where is the in-depth good story here? There isn’t one.
Forced to take a holiday from his job at Southerland security, Liam thought he would take his wounded friend on a fishing trip. The last thing he expects is Andy, the lady who runs the farm where his friend is healing. Their attraction is instantaneous, but will they be able to overcome the obstacles in their way to get their HEA? A lovely story of coming to terms with ones past and learning to live again.
I loved this story, it was real, fast moving along with a little romance on the side yet dealing with real life issues that too many people in this life have. I definitely recommend reading this story.
Nice enough story, with a bit of action/suspense thrown in. It felt a bit rushed and a little unfinished at the end, for instance Liam went to the farm to help his friend but that part felt like it needed a bit more to it.
