Jeff Kinney is an author of children's books including Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series. Jeff was born in College Park, Maryland, in 1971 where he created a comic strip called "Igdoof."He also created the children's website 'Poptropica'.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but I want to (despite the really bad ratings lol) because I've seen the other three movies (and loved them!) But I have to read every Wimpy Kid book I can.

This wasn't much different than The Wimpy Kid Movie Diary from what I remember. A lot of cool behind the scenes things, telling how movies are made. It's actually a pretty interesting read because of that, neat to see how things come together. Plus, it's peppered with Wimpy Kid illustrations and humour, which I am always a fan of.

Worst diary of a wimpy kid book if you wanna call it that

It was very interesting to read a book about how the movie was made. It talked about the actors names were and if they had any previous acting experience and roles. There were about 200-300 extra actors to make it look real. What I mean by that is when they were at a restaurant there were people in the back round to make the movie seem real.

AWESOME!!!

This is an awesome book.
It could use some more photos from the film! But in general, its a good book

This book takes you on a filmmaking journey, and tells you all the little set secrets on the way. It’s funny, actually, that a book becomes a movie becomes yet another really fun book. They show how the sets were made, more about the actors, and about animated seagulls eating in-real-life cheese snacks.

I actually came across this book before reading Wimpy Kid The Long Haul. I had read the first Wimpy Kid, but that was it. My friend got into the books and had me read them after they did. When I actually read Long Haul, I already knew the majority of what happens. I’m not that big on surprises, and wasn’t upset because of the spoilers, but I strongly recommend going through the original books, and mildly recommend watching the movies, before reading this one.

Wimpy Kid Movie Diary: The Next Chapter is a great book in the series Diary of a Wimpy Kid and is part of a classic collection.

My kids absolutely loved this series. It is fun and will have you laughing out loud.

There are many books in this series some better than others, but they all have one thing in common, humour and the ability to make fun of oneself.

The pictures and jokes just make it all that much better.

Read along you won’t be disappointed.

It’s always nice to see how a movie is made, especially if it’s about one of your favorite books. This series is my childhood. Been reading it for 10 years now. They made 4 movies until now and they’re all good. I was a bit upset by the change in actors especially Greg cuz I was used to him. The new actors did a great job though. If anyone wants to know how a movie is made, well read this.

I only checked this out for nostalgia reasons, because I absolutely loved the books and films when I was younger than I currently am (so, like, late teens, early twenties range). I didn’t care all that much about the behind-the-scenes stuff; it really wasn’t all that interesting. Only certain movies, I’d give a shit about it.

I never thought that I would actually enjoy reading about how the movie was made

This is apparently the second "behind the scenes" book about the Wimpy Kid movie franchise, but it's the first one I've read. I saw commentary that this book is very similar to the last one, but as it's about a whole new cast (as the original kids aged out of their roles), I feel like it was appropriate to put out.

The Long Haul, I learnt, was the first book in the series that was written with a movie in mind. I suspect this is also why it was one of my least favourite in the series. Generally, a movie structure works wonderfully in a book, as it gives the characters strong goals and motivations. However, the Wimpy Kid books are more a rambling diary format, and the change of structure and absence of the normal Wimpy Kid "world" was jarring.

Worse, the film - the fourth in the franchise - was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I'd heard it was bad, but this book motivated me to watch it.

I did love the behind-the-scenes look at the movie. Jeff Kinney gave a comprehensive yet fascinating insight into how a movie is made, from start to finish. Having grown up in the entertainment industry, I'm familiar with a lot of it, but it's always fun to revisit, and I think kids will be interested in that aspect.

There were lots of photographs and storyboards and illustrations to accompany the information, and it was all-around a good read.

So what a pity The Long Haul is such a disappointing instalment in the series. It put a dampener on reading this one.

There are definitely some interesting points in here, but i didn’t enjoy it as much as the first one. I didn’t think the movie was that great either but it could have been due the my age when that one came out

- the long haul was based on many road trips in Jeff Kinney family
- The book was actually made with a movie in mind
- Most movies follow the same 3 act structure
- Metallichuaua was an idea for the movie
- Had to start over with casting since original cast was college aged now
- Role of manny was given to 2 triplets
- Art department creates so many props of different sizes and many are only seen for a few seconds
- Make corny’s look like a real restaurant that locals would stop by for food
- Brought in pig trainers to decide what breed to use
- Time capsule in the ball pit that got filled in
- “Buck car” comes apart in pieces
- Anti manny doll to stand in when manny should be sleeping to help keep more still
- Seagull scene was most accurate to book and All seagulls were cgi
- Game expo WAs the latest scene to prep for filming and wasn’t even part of the source material
- Greg’s real life dad took time off work to be an extra
- Jeff kinney was also an extra
- Used a real carnival but did make some booths
- Couple scenes paid homage to Alfred Hitchcock
- Sometimes studios spend as much money marketing the movie as they do making it
- With the 3rd wimpy kid animated movie coming out soon, i wonder if there will be a book similar to these to show the princess of making those. I would assume not because it would mostly be talking about the cgi but it could also talk about the conception, plans, and the realities of voice acting

Just getting to this title...

After reading reviews about the movie, I have come to the conclusion that this may be the best way to experience the movie adaptation of Kinney's DWK #9 The Long Haul - as a diary of the experience by JK himself.

Filled with many of the same wacky antics of Greg Heffley (as some just didn't work and others were added in their place), Kinney talks to readers with the step-by-step series of events in moviemaking. He begins with script writing, moves to storyboarding, then to hiring the actors, finding filming locations, hiring staff, getting props and costumes, to actual video production, to adding visual effects, to sound editing, to marketing, and finally launch. His short diary entries are entertaining as he does an excellent job of explaining what happens each step of the way.

The book makes heavy use of Kinney's illustrations at each point from the book comparing with how it looked in the film.

While this might be fine to catalog with other books on making films, it will probably circulate best on the shelves with other DWK fiction titles. Readers of Wimpy Kid books just can't get enough of them!

Recommended for grades 4-8.

Ok, I get it, hating on the 4th movie is so cool blah blah. Butttt... aside from the bad actors and questionable storyline, there was a lot that went into making this movie. It was literally a full budget motion picture. When you just see the movie on itself, it's easy to ignore all the little details and planning that went into the movie, details overlooked quite often. And this book makes you appreciate that, give a little love to the ppl who were working endlessly behind the screen. They deserve it after all the hating. I admit the movie was a wek one, definitely nowhere near the level of the first 3, but this book gives you a whole new perspective. It was literally made just like an avg wimpy kid movie would be made. Conclusion: give it a read before hating the movie and appreciate the little things more

A nice behind-the-scenes book about the Wimpy Kid: Long Haul movie. To be honest, this book was probably better than the movie. At least here you have a happy attitude from the author and genuine excitement about the process of how a movie is made. The book covers a lot of ground: selecting a cast, creating sets, tricks-of-the-trade, on-location and in-studio sets, CG (computer graphics) or not, and more.

So even if you didn't much care for the movie... it's a lot of fun to learn about many different elements of film creation. Since the Wimpy Kid books have done so well commercially, I like seeing this kind of educational book with some mass appeal. Lots of supportive pictures from the movie production should provide the interest and entertainment while the learning commences.

The wimpy kid movie diary the next chapter by Jeff Kinney is a nonfiction book about the making of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul" and is set in America. The characters are the cast and crew involved with making the movie.

I think it's a great book. It brings up things like moviemaking history, moviemaking tricks, and other things. It kept me thinking for a long time after finishing and made me come in for a second read. All in all, this book is interesting and I think you should read it.

What I think about the book and movie

I don’t like this book because it put me too sleep. I think that the people in the movie could have a better story for the movie. I heard that the movie go 18% of rotten tomatoes and I watched some of the movie but I stoped watching it because I didn’t like it. But I did really like the first movie the second and the third.
