Bellona Cardenas Scordina de Deluca, daughter of the primary Cardenas family, went missing ten years ago. Reynard Cardenas, Bellona’s father and head of the family, receives anonymous, unsubstantiated news that she has been found. He sends the most disposable person in the family to investigate—Sang, the family android.
Sang’s investigation trips off chain reactions which shift the generations-old luke-warm war between Erium and Karassia into a galaxy-wide conflagration which will engulf the known worlds, including the neutral, fiercely independent free states…unless a hero can be found who will fight to hold the line against the two colossal forces.
New Star Rising is the first book in the Indigo Reports science fiction series by award-winning SF author Tracy Cooper-Posey.

Praise for New Star
Cooper-Posey is an awesome storyteller and I love how she develops her characters. You won't be disappointed if you're looking for a journey into a never-explored futuristic world before.
It is not a novel that can be skimmed through. Take your time and enjoy the new world that is presented to you.
This novel is fascinating for its rich and complex story line set on multiple planets/worlds.
What an amazing book from start to finish.
What is there not to like? I found myself digging into this book and disappointed at the end of it because I wanted more now rather than having to wait for the next book.
A complex story line that draws you in then keeps you engaged. Nothing formulaic.
Well thought out story. The science fiction components are consistent.
Science fiction with real science! LaGrange points – I am so giddy.
Roller coaster of a story following fabulous characters who move through varying planet and spacecraft environments whilst always dealing with a war that's not a war!
Waring enemies setting each other up to eliminate another enemy. Throw in a "neutral" entity that does lots of dirty work and this book has all the makings for a great series.
A complex story line that draws you in then keeps you engaged. Nothing formulaic. Worlds and cultures that are at war.

I wanted to enjoy this book more than I ultimately did. The book starts out smartly enough, with action and intrigue and an introduction to the main characters that drive the plot, for the most part. There's no insufferable info-dumping, as there often is in the sci-fi genre.
The book introduces my favorite character, Sang, the Cardenas family android, early on in the story, which worked well for me, because I felt that Sang had more personality and character as a lab-grown android than the rest of the characters that peopled this book, whose personalities felt very flat and clichéd. Our heroine of the story, Bellona Cardenas Scordina de Deluca, morphed between her kidnapped and brainwashed alter-ego, Xena Warrior Princess, and her primary, petulant, princess personality.
(I'm going to pause and admire the alliteration there for a moment.)
I'm probably being a bit too harsh on poor ol' Bellona, but I really felt no empathy for her, which made the remainder of the book difficult, especially as all of the other "hero" characters were killed off in quick succession. Sang, however, that glorious gender-neutral android who kept referring to themself as plural rather than neuter, was the real star of the book.
I will continue on in the series, and I look forward to more Sang. Or, perhaps preferably, the redemption of Bellona.
The point of view of the android was fresh, although completely different from Flying Blind. The other characters are their focus so sometimes I felt removed from them because all I know about them is what the android observes. Sex happens (most negative) but on the sidelines--survival and politics are more important--and Sang has no interest. Think the science behind Joss Whedons Dollhouse and there you have the female lead in the story along with family and political intrigue during a space cold war. There is tragedy along the way but a hopeful ending has me looking forward to the next book.
Love the android point of view! The world building is complex yet Sang's focus simplifies it. The adventure doesn't stop and I was hooked. The assassin was horrifying and I was so sad about his victims. Yes, people die! I'm rooting for the heroine and her friends.
I really enjoyed this one. Bellona disappears under peculiar circumstances ten years previously and when there is a tipoff that she may still be alive, Sang is sent off to track down the dodgy lead. I’m not saying more as the blurb is refreshingly spoiler-free and it would be a shame to give away any plotpoints in this action-packed space opera adventure.
I was initially drawn to this one by the quality of the writing. I have since discovered that Cameron Cooper is a pen-name for an experienced indie author with a number of books in other genres to her credit. And it shows. The twisting plot and quirky characters quickly pulled me into the action – no one is quite what they seem and I was genuinely shocked at some of the family dynamics within the Cardenas clan.
I liked all the protagonists and cared about what would happen to them – there is plenty of tension and a sense that not everyone would survive the book, which always tends to keep me turning the pages longer than I should. I didn’t see the final denouement coming and will be getting hold of the next slice in this entertaining series, as Cooper manages to keep it all about the main characters, while also successfully depicting the wider stakes if it all goes wrong.
Highly recommended for fans of adventure space opera featuring an interesting mix of human and not-so-human protagonists. 8/10
The author is going pure scifi in this one, no paranormal, no romance. We have a great world builder here and who knows a possible future of mankind. There are androids made for everything you can think of. But androids are not always as they seem for there is evil behind missing humans; humans that are remade for a variety of duties, from sex to super-hero's. Those in charge think they have it all, control, money, worlds, and all they have to do is wipe out a persons past, add some electronics here and there, moving parts and the most important, control their minds. With help of a family android and a human (hmmm) one of these, a super-hero woman, is rescued and returned to her loving family who have missed her for 10 years. But be sure not to ask her opinion on the matter. Rebellion is on the horizon, along with a possible intergalactic war. What can humans due when their surrounded by mind controlled androids and their evil masters (just had to say that it sounds cool). Well to find out the who, why, and where you'll have to get, read, and don't forget review, this foray into the unknown possibilities of Sci-Fi. I recommend to all those who love to read of possible and impossible beings and worlds.
Bellona/Xenia is rescued and returned to her family on her home planet. Will she ever fit it there again? And what about her saviors, Sang and Ari/Khalil? Is there honor on either side in the war between the Karassians and the Eriumans? This exciting story introduces a sweeping new universe badly in need of a hero - or a heroine. Buckle up and hold on!
**** SPOILER ALERT **** Cooper delivers an action-packed suspenseful story that is full of twists and turns. The author does a great job of world building and character development as we follow Sang, Khalil, and Bellona/Xenia's travels and travails. I enjoyed all the action, twists, turns and suspense as I read this book. I did not see the surprise twist the author put at the end of the story coming. I really look forward to reading more of Cooper's "Indigo Reports' series. Q: Is Bellona the hero that the mysterious Bureau is searching for? Q: Can Bellona rescue her friends from captivity? A: Get this excellent book and find out!! You won't regret the time you invest in exploring this world. In the interest of transparency: I was given a free review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review. It is my own honest opinion
An exciting sci-fi universe rumors of war, clashing families and a girl that has been missing for ten years. The society has class distinctions by "house" and ruling families. The android character is sent to get info on the missing daughter of her house. She partners with an ambiguous character to try to find her. There is so much going in this universe. It would make a great space movie. The world-building and character are extremely well written. Filled with depth and complication. I can't wait for the next in the series.
I requested an ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This is an intricate and complex sci-fi story. Ms. Cooper-Posey creates a world which is widely diverse from what the reader knows; but presents it in such a creative and engaging way we do not become confused, but become a part of the world which evolves as we read.
To describe further, would be to ruin the surprises which await you as you engage in this Sci-fi adventure!!

For someone that has just started writing SciFi Tracy has done a great job. There are more twists and turns in this story than Space Mountain in Disneyland. This book will keep you guessing, just as you think you have figured things out, you get proven wrong. The characters are lifelike and they take you along on their ride. I highly recommend reading the Prequel Flying Blind first as it does set some of this book up.
What a joy to read Cameron Cooper's 1st book in the series, New Star Rising. It's pure SciFi, with a continuous group of inspiring characters, and some not so much. He displays the underbelly of governments, and their hideous secrets, which leaves our heroes very little room to maneuver, other than total rebellion. Can't wait for the next book. Great read for every SciFi aficionado out there!

Exciting story building and a great read for an epic new Sci Fi series.
An interesting and roller coaster of a story following fabulous characters who move through varying planet and spacecraft environments whilst always dealing with a war that's not a war! The high testament to how immersed I became is the fact that I read the whole book, within days, despite finding it a bit slow and heavy initially but I do have to admit to only reading lighter romances these days and this book was a wonderful change of pace! I think the initial complexity of characters and concepts is also worthwhile when I look back and consider that none of it was excess to the series story that I can see is being built.
New Star Rising is the second book in the series but the prequel only hints at the magnitude of how epic this ongoing story is going to be!
Spaceships, androids, family infighting, and heroes; two opposing "empires" and the free worlds, with well-developed characters from the various factions and a well thought out story. Within the larger scale of the Erium and Karassia about to engage in an all-encompassing war, each racing to annex the free planets, we have the smaller scale view into a very dysfunctional household and the more personal view into Bellona's (our female MC) and Sang's (the house android) journeys of self-discovery.
My favorite type of science fiction - a multilayered plot with political and social issues within a good story. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one in the series.
Note - To those who, like me, may initially feel annoyed by what appears to be incorrect grammar, it all becomes clear within the first dozen pages. I almost gave up after a few pages as my mind tripped over the sentence structure and felt confused in the first 5 pages. I have too often read both free and expensive e-books that should have, at a minimum, been run through the word processor's spellcheck and grammar and preferably been edited by at least a 12 year old. That is not the case in this instance; it is very deliberate and part of the story.
Two large governments on the edge of war, annexing adjoining planets, fighting proxy battles, sometimes by less than above board means.
In times of war or revolution, there are individuals who have a disproportionate impact. They are the bellwethers, the Champions who inspire the loyalty of complacent masses and galvanize them to raise arms in change.
In a universe where chaos mathematics and heuristic learning can be used to find that bellwether champion, what if the people with access to that knowledge could use it to manipulate this person to champion their cause? And what if their plot was so extensive that every move seemed to play into it?
This story brings together political intrigue on the grandest scale and betrayal on the most personal.
Focusing primarily on members of one rather dysfunctional family, this book takes an up close and personal look at machinations which could have very unintended consequences in this impending war.
This space opera reads more like a soap opera than military sci-fi and is recommended for readers more interested in the interpersonal intrigue and relationships of key individuals in a war than in the battles and weapons.
This was an absolutely stunning beginning to a new series. Cameron Cooper is the master of world-building and has a way of making fantastical things feel “normal”...like, honestly, why aren’t there androids walking around everywhere and why can’t I talk to my coffee pot? Well, I do, but it doesn’t talk back...yet. But I digress. New Star Rising will take you on a journey through space and across multiple planets with unique climes and inhabitants and politics. The plot is intriguing and well thought out and will keep you guessing. This book has it all: political intrigue, family drama, secret organizations, imaginative yet believable futuristic technology, interplanetary war and lovable androids and AIs. If you like science fiction you can’t go wrong by reading this book. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
You know things are messed up when you send the house android on an important mission.
This is book one of what promises to be a complex space opera series. The story is very well written with a multi-layered plot that will keep you on your toes. The characters are also well developed and certainly help to bring the story to life. I enjoyed experiencing this from the android's perspective as that was a bit fresh and different. The story is a little heavy on the politics for my tastes, and I am afraid I am going to need a score card to keep up with the various players and the twists and turns they take.
Overall, a very engaging read which kept me interested to the end. I am definitely anxious to read the next book and see where this is going.
Recommended.
I received an ARC from the author for review purposes.

Yippy! Tracy has created a whole new universe in which to play. Friends, enemies, political intrigues, oh my! Who really is the “bad” guy? I guess that we will find out as the story unfolds. Tracy brings her worlds and characters to life. I feel like I have actually met them. I cannot wait to see how Khalil Ready’s character evolves. And, science fiction with real science! LaGrange points – I am so giddy. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.
