Emmalin
What the hell did I know? I spent my entire life running from my past. Right when I was ready to put it all behind me for good, the person I feared the most decided to make a grand entrance and fuck everything I worked hard for. I panic when he's near because his only motive in life is to cause me pain and suffering. But I'm scared. He's not kidding around. He's threatened to destroy every single person that I love. I'll fight like Hell to stop him. Even if it means to run again. Even if it means to trade my life for the ones I love.

Grayson
Things were going great...until they weren't. But, I know she's hiding something or someone from me. She's different. Her guard is up, and her focus is to push me away. I swear, I refuse to sit back, and let something come between us...again. I fought like Hell for Emmalin once, and I'll certainly do it again.

Intense. Dark with many triggers. And cliffhangers suck.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This book is something else. It is definitely a part 2 from book 1 so you must read the first book to even follow this.
This read is intense and if you have ANY trigger emotions with violence, rape, forceful situations, etc., this is not the book or series for you.
Grayson enamored himself to me more in this book and Emmalin really annoyed me more. Hiding secrets and situations made the journey worse and then the author gave us another cliffy. Ugh.
Loaded with hella hot sex scenes and the suspense of the plot made this book. With plenty of twists, the author definitely stepped up with this story. Now on to book 3.
I KNEW IT! Stupid heroine keeps a huge secret from the hero all through the story.
I skimmed this book because I was so pissed.
I found that the BSDM does not work in this story. For someone who was so severely abused to desire punishment. And for someone who knows of this abuse and who has sadism issues, to want harm the one he loves so much? It just didn't seem logical to me.
And despite everything that happens to her, Emmaline really annoyed me with her martyr-statues. Her constant running off, and lying and denying drove me nuts.
I received a copy of the first book of this series and this one, through NetGalley for an honest review. There was a lot of time between me reading book 1 and book 2, and I think that probably led to some of my mixed feelings about this, as I had a hard time getting back into the story. I didn't want to do a re-read, so I just re-read my review and other reviews of Book 1 to try to catch up. So, as mentioned - mixed feelings. I definitely warmed more to Grayson's asshole/barbarian ways (because apparently I lurve asshole/barbarians). He truly did just love and want to protect Emmalin. He was just kind of warped in the way he went about things. While a good f*ck is always appreciated, it really shouldn't be a tool for getting someone to behave!!! Emmalin I absolutely wanted to punch in the ovaries!! So many secrets, lies, hiding....gaah, she frustrated me. There was more frustration than enjoyment, thus the 3 star rating. This is one of those stories that probably is best to try to read in one go when it's all finished rather than waiting in between installments. And note to authors - if you are going to take a story and make it a series, a "recap" is an awesome idea. I have thousands of books on Mount To Be Read - and I don't want to have to to a re-read just to ensure I do your storyline justice! Even if I live to be 300, I won't make it through all the books I want to read, let alone have to re-read some of them. Not gonna happen!!
Unjustly Destroyed by Marie Skye is Book Two in the "Incapable" series. This continues the story of Emmalin and Grayson. Since this is an ongoing storyline I would highly recommend you read the previous book " Incapable". Also this book does end with another cliffhanger to set you up for the third installment called "Infinitely Mine". This book picks up where they left us with the last book.
Emmalin emotional past is getting stronger than she can fight but she does start to place the walls up that Grayson has seeming started to slowly work down.
Their story has you on such an emotional world-wind that you can't put down. Things that have seeming worked with similar stories ins't working for them.
Need the next book!
**** 4 Cranky Stars ****
I feel the very first thing I need to say is that this is a very dark read, for adults only. The book contains very explicit content, on many different levels.
The tamest of these is the BDSM content, and there is absolutely nothing tame about that. Since the whole 50 Shades phenomena, I have read so much more about domination and submission than I ever thought I would, but this book goes more deeply into that than probably any other I have read. Quite frankly, I am ready for a new trend (and for the love of all things cranky, not the stepbrothers trend either) but I will not hold that against this author, or any other than delves into the s and m arena. This one is definitely well written on that front, and quite creative. While I am issuing what has become fairly standard warnings in my reviews, and while skirting any potential spoilers, I will add that almost any potential trigger warning I have ever seen addressed does come up within these pages.
The second thing to address is that this is the second book in what I believe is to be a trilogy, and it is not really a stand alone. I suppose you could read it as such, but I would highly recommend reading Ms. Skye's Incapable first. As it was Unjustly Destroyed that came to us for review, I almost did that, but am glad the author/publisher/PR team (not sure who presented it) suggested that Incapable be read first. I am pretty convinced that having not read these together in the order they were intended would have left me despising the hero, Grayson Mandrake, and he doesn't deserve that. He really is a pretty good guy, but mainstream he certainly is not (unless your idea of mainstream is dominant billionaire, which for some readers I can understand if they have begun to feel that way - sorry, I am digressing into my curmudgeonly rants, and this series should not be judged on that.)
Emmalin Ross is our heroine, and assuming you have read Incapable as well, you know that she has not led an easy life, but she has done a fine job of moving past all of the obstacles that have been her path in life almost since birth. Poor thing, as much as she would deserve it, I can't say that there has been any real change in that trend in this addition to her story. As I mentioned, this is a dark read, but if anyone deserves a happily ever after, it is this girl! I also mentioned that this is the second of what I believe to be a trilogy, so, that does mean that we will have to wait at least one more book until we find out if she finally gets one. As much as my feelings on these books have gone up, down and sideways, I will be pretty eagerly waiting to find out if she ever gets one.
I would say this book also falls into the thriller category as well as dark romance. Emmalin can not seem to escape the demons of her past. The editing is well done, and I found few if any errors, and they were not enough to take me out of the book over. I always appreciate that, especially when I have been in a slump of books that I can't say that about lately so it is definitely appreciated. I would recommend for those sure they can handle a very dark and explicit read.
3.5 We Fight Together stars
Unjustly Destroyed picks up where Incapable ended. Without spoiling that ending, let's just say that Emmalin starts building those walls again. And Grayson notices it immediately.
What does this do to Grayson and Emmalin? It damn near destroys them. Emmalin keeps pushing and fighting and wants to do things on her own. Grayson doesn't want to be pushed aside. He doesn't want to take that submissive role. He is the Dominant. He is the protector. And he feels like he is failing her.
Personally, I enjoyed this book more than the first. That ending in Incapable is why I picked this one up. I thought I had it all figured out and that things were going to get better for Emmalin. But Marie Skye decided to throw us all for a loop with that.
So, here we are. Trying to figure out the best way to help Emmalin while Emmalin thinks she is strong enough to take car of everything herself.
Grayson though! He really shines for me in this book. He may not be able to protect her and he may feel like a failure, but those just make him human. They make him more accessible. Those things make him likable. And boy do I like Grayson in Unjustly Destroyed.
My mind was on two things. Killing and fucking, and I couldn't kill right now. But I could fuck.
"It's my turn. I need it, and right now, I need you to run. I need you to fight, because I'm going to chase after you, and when I get you, I plan on fucking you. Like you mean nothing to me, other than a sweet pussy."
Where do I sign up for this Grayson? This Grayson is intense and scary and in control. This is the only thing he seems to have control of when his world seems to be falling apart. And Emmalin needs him more than she could ever imagine.
That threat that rears its ugly head at the end of Incapable? Well, that threat is real and it's after Emmalin and all she loves.
"You and me, remember? We fight together."
Wow this book was amazing. I loved it so much more than book 1 if I’m being honest. It sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down. I cried and I laughed and I cried more. What Emmalin goes through I can’t even imagine. I was fighting with her and for her and so was Grayson. Emmalins past comes to haunt her and she keeps it from Grayson. Which was a big mistake. How the book ended has my heart torn and hoping it isn’t the end. I can’t wait to read book 3 to see if there is healing and restoration.
Holy hell.....this one is truly messed up, after Incapable I really never thought things got that much destroyed.
After going through so many hells Grayson and Emalin finally got together but in this it reverse their world upside down...damn. Seriously I thought for something interesting but this is far more interesting and thrilling. Makes me complete the novel asap.
I did not have high expectations for this book judging from how the first book ended. This book did nothing to sway me otherwise. I am sorry to say that this series was not for me. The characters were still immature. Emmalin was still running away and Grayson still chased after her. A lot of things that happened to her was self-inflicted. She kept getting things done to her by a person with a vendetta due to the fact she did not think.
I understand she wanted to be independent and do things her own way, but if she would have just told someone her plans then that person would have talked some sense into her. I also did not understand her being mad at Grayson for taking care of her. Before she had him, she was broke, barely had a job, and in debt. She was worried that he was going to get tired of her, but he continually conveyed that he was not going anywhere. He kept stating this in the first book. She kept saying she had nothing of her own. She did have something...DEBT. Even if he did get tired of her, she was able to leave with a fresh start. She was just too prideful and weak. I came to this conclusion due to the fact that she had a trust of 7.25 million dollars left to her by her stepfather. But she did not want to touch it because she considered it blood money. She was poor and could not afford her medications because she was prideful. That did not make sense to me at all.
There was not really a connection with these characters. Sex was a filler in this story. Sex was the answer to all their problems. They were mad, sex. They were happy, sex. She was depressed, sex. There was no substance to this book. I did not care about what happens to them and their story. And what is so bad is there is a third installment about Emmalin and Grayson. The author should have written a book about another character. I cannot recommend this book and I will not read the third installment.
Thrilling, captivating, romantic fiction novel. Second in sequence of a trilogy. I hadn't read the first book, so in the beginning I couldn't understand what was happening. But still I was hooked from the start because of the alternating narratives. I think that's a unique storytelling manner and it suited the story so much as you could understand why the protagonist was reacting in a certain way and then read what the other person was thinking in the next chapter! I loved that throughout the novel.
The plotline felt a bit dragging, and predictable in the middle, but the narrative kept me engrossed so I didn't leave the book and managed to finish only to see that it ended on a cliffhanger. And now I'm desperate for answers!! Impatiently waiting for the third part now.
The content is definitely for adults, because of explicit content. If you are uncomfortable reading erotic fiction then maybe you shouldn't pick up this book as there’s quite a lot happening over here lol.
There were so many ways this could have gone and Marie took it right where she needed it to go, so many unexpected things happening here, and real!! I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book and now I have to wait again for the next one!! Wow! 2 thumbs up and 5 sparkly stars for this one!!
Unjustly Destroyed (Incapable Book 2) by Marie Skye
5 times like a million stars
Destroyed is the perfect word to be in the title of this book, because that word is perfect for what I am feeling right now. My review for the first book of this series pretty much sums up just how much I love this author, but I'm mad at her right now because she has left me shattered after reading this book. I can honestly say I've never cried so much while reading a story. I have read both of the first two of this series today and have every intention of reading the third as soon as I'm done with this review. I'm also planning on getting no sleep tonite and being completely worthless tomorrow but I don't care.
You have to read book 1 before reading this story, I can't imagine reading this one as a standalone.
The continued story of Emmalin and Grayson takes us on a journey of these two falling even deeper in love but Emmalin’s past has caught up to her and she will do whatever it takes to protect what they have and she most importantly will protect Grayson, even if it means not protecting herself.
Grayson knows something is wrong. She's pulling away from him, she's hiding something and he can not figure out what or who it is, but he is determined to find out and eliminate whatever or whoever it might be. He will not lose her.
Emmalin is being threatened mentally and physically, she's just trying to find a way to make it go away, when tragedy strikes she decides to take things into her own hands, which doesn't end well. Can Grayson get to her in time and can he bring her back from the dark before he loses her forever?
Brilliant is the word that comes to mind for Marie Skye, simply brilliant!! Read these books, you will not be sorry!!!
This is the second instalment of the Incapable series, the continuation of Emmalin Ross and Grayson Mandrake’s story. And what a tale it was.
Emmalin and Grayson’s love is tested beyond belief. It felt like I was drowning in their love, so immersed in their story, I couldn’t put it down, I needed to know what was going on... What would happen next?
At the end of Incapable Emmalin sees the eyes of the past. It hits her hard, why has this man appeared back in her life? Soon her past is haunting her and she doesn’t know how to deal with it. She wants to protect those who she loves, but at what cost? Grayson senses something is wrong, but she won’t tell him, she won’t let him in, telling him she’s dealing with it.
When the life of someone she loves is threatened, she makes the ultimate sacrifice “Do whatever you want to me” - the ultimate show of love to protect the innocent. Emmalin has been through it all. The pain is palpable.
I can’t even begin to understand what Emmalin went through, and as hard as it was I kept reading - This tale is so dark at every turn. Even at the end when Emmalin walks away from Grayson. She did it out of her limitless love for the man, after everything she went through.
Emmalin’s actions or rather her inactions, wanting to deal with things on her own, like buying a gun, and not being honest with Grayson had me seething, wanting to scream at her to just open up, tell Grayson, tell Chance! TELL SOMEONE! Don’t do it on your own... but of course she didn’t.
This was a much better read than the first one. Less R rated activities, and more focus on the story. Which is what was needed, because of the intensity of the storyline. On to the next one! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!
I really enjoyed Incapable, the first book in this series. Emmalin and Grayson, have had, it seems, everything possible thrown at them and yet they still remain strong.
I love their relationship, its kinky, sexy, caring, and even with all their issues they just work. Emmalin is without doubt a survivor and in this book, she starts to again keep secrets from Grayson, and he feels she is slipping away. Unbeknown to him she is desperate to protect him, even though she knows it means a lot more pain and hurt for her. He knows she is hiding things and will take any methods he can to resolve things. My heart broke for him at times and at times I found Emmalin irritating but the twists and turns within the pages make captivating reading. It’s easy to get invested in this couple and their friends. Be prepared for some fantastic twists that you just don’t see coming, your emotions to be on a roller coaster brace yourself for the final twist at the end !!! WHAT? NO? you cannot leave it this way, i really really need the next book !!
This story is once again about Emmalin and Grayson. It picks up by where the first story ended when in the ball Emmalin sees someone from her past and her old nightmares wakes up. Initially she tries to hide things from Grayson but he quickly picks up that something is off. Grayson tries to protect her with in every way he has, until the unthinkable happens that breaks down both of them. Though they try to pick up their pieces Dale comes into picture and the story ends once again with a veil of mystery.
Marie Skye has written an amazing story which is much more than just another hot romance novella. She delves into the character's feeling and the story evolves fast keeping the reader's interest high. Though the story has some soft BDSM scenes, I would say the reader is so caught up by the plot that even if he/she is not so up to BDSM lifestyle he/she will find him/herself hooked with the book.
I really believe the author did a great job going into depth with her characters and narrating the story. I can't wait to read what happens next and how the story evolves.
Wow what a roller coaster ride of emotions!
The story started with the cliffhanger we had and the previous book, and the mysterious guy became our main antagonist in this second book. So many twists and turns here. And I'm so angry about the deaths that happened; one doesn't deserve it at all and the other deserves a longer one. Unjustly destroyed is exactly what it says; Emma goes through so much shit in life that she is unjustly destroyed, together with her friend Tyler, and maybe her boyfriend Grayson too. It is a very heartbreak and frustrating read; in the whole book, Emma and Grayson's relationship was a dance of one step forward, two steps back. Emma kept hiding truths from Grayson and he went over the top possessive and controlling. And just like how I said it in the first book's review, the whole masochist-sadist dynamic doesn't work well here at all, especially in the last 5-10% of the book. Otherwise, it was an amazing read overall. Now on to the last book because after that last cliffy, I need to know what happens next.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Was this book even better than the first? YES! I have so many questions so if you guess that I’m going to go read the third installment immediately then you are so right. All the twist and turns, all the hot stuff going on, OMG I am hooked more than I was in the first book. I found my emotions running high a few times while reading, I love when a book has characters that you connect with so when they’re happy or sad you feel it too. When they hurt, you just want to jump in the book and hug them. The characters in this book have definitely sucked me in. Emmalin just can’t seem to catch a break with all these curve balls and I love how Grayson is there for her even though she tries to push him away at times and keep him in the dark about things. I am super anxious to continue this series, so off I go to read Infinitely Mine! I just can’t get enough!
Oh my goodness. This book messed me up in the best of ways that only authors can accomplish. Book 2 picked up where book 1 ended and then sent us on an emotional roller coaster. It was full of hot sex, steamy chemistry once again between Grayson and Emmelin, wonderful characters and several sadness.....makes you want to cry goodness. Poor Emmelin has been through so much disgusting sorrow and abuse in her life past and present and how this character keeps going show the characters strength. You also see the love the Grayson has for her and how he will not allow her to quit on him. The ending was enough to make you scream but at least I can just start on the next since I've found this series after the books have came out. I absolutely love this series and I know it will come to an end but I don't want it to!!!
I loved reading the outstanding and amazing second book in the Incapable series. Emmalin's world comes crashing down when Carson, her stepbrother, demands money from her or he will hurt the ones she loves. Emmalin will do anything to protect Grayson but not fast enough to save Tyler. How can Emmalin escape Carson's treacherous, abusive tendencies and still stay sane and be with Grayson. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written full of mystery, intrigue, and romance, and a must read romance.
I didn’t like Emma before and I especially didn’t like her now. Emma is keeping secrets and she is keeping Grayson at a distance and she keeps lying. Grayson is not a man that will take it lightly being pushed aside. Grayson was much more likable than Emma in this book. He wants to protect Emma but she is being very secretive and that’s not helping out.
This book picked up where Incapable left off. I gotta say, I loved it. I think what I liked about these books the most was that although there was alot of sex, there was a storyline that pulled me in and made me want to get to know the characters.
I enjoyed this book just as much as the first book, and can't wait until I can find a copy of Infinitely Mine. Definitely an author that I enjoy reading, and looking forward to more books from her in the future!
The second part of this book was better than the first. I feel it could have been and excellent read had the book been a little less violent and the sex scenes toned down. It is hard for me to believe that a woman who came out of such an abusive situation could put up with a man being abusive in a different fashion.
The book was well written even though I didn't care the adult situations.
This is Emmalin and Grayson's story continued from the first book , Incapable. It's an emotional story filled with twists and turns and had me on the edge not knowing what would come next. The characters are strong and the story moves quickly and smoothly with the author leaving you hanging ... wanting more. I'm looking forward to the next book.
This book got me teared up in parts. I felt the pain and longing emma and grayson felt throughout thr entire book. I love that no matter what obstacle stands in Emma's way and no matter who tried to destroy her, Grayson is right beside her to protect her and put her pieces back together! They have an unbreakable romance! I cant wait to keep reading more.
Unjustly Destroyed by Marie Skye, book two in the Incapable series. I enjoyed the characters in this series. The books are erotic but still have a strong storyline. The author knows how to pull you into the story from the first page. I look forward to reading more in the series and more book by the author.
