A troubling book, but worth it. A lot of things feel wrong 57ish years later, but the main characters’ internal monologues make it stick with you. A thoughtful character study - even if the author’s prose gets self-indulgent. Often.
Maybe a little too Randian - too much of Roark/Galt in the main characters’ thinking about themselves and life’s meaning/purpose. You don’t have to buy in, though, for it to get you thinking hard about big topics.
Now, in the time of BLM, those who protest and those who lionize police, and the myriad ways people interpret and judge others’ worldviews, there is plenty offered in Drought’s book to fuel some personal reflection.
