In "TALK," Mandy Majors shares the ups and downs of her cyberparenting journey and the game-changing discovery that transformed her approach to parenting. If you've picked up this book because your child found pornography online or is asking tough questions about complex issues, you’re not alone. We're all struggling in this rapidly changing digital era. Parenting has undergone a seismic shift in the twenty-first century, forcing us to address issues that previous generations of parents never encountered. But amazing things happen when parents and kids begin to talk. From social media to cyberstrangers, cyberbullying to suicide, pornography to transgender, no topic is off limits. Open, on-the-go communication is a cyberparent’s secret weapon in a screen-crazed world.
The author is articulate and addressed many issues parents are faced with today. However, her target audience is Christian parents. A better title for the book should be "TALK: A Practical CHRISTIAN Approach..." Throughout this book the author refers to Jesus and Bible scriptures and how parents can apply them to talking to your children. It is OVERKILL. The author does not consider the non-Christians in this world who are Jewish, Islam, Pagan, Buddhist, Hindu, etc. reading this book. It appears the author speaks ONLY to the parents in her congregation. This book is great for Bible study and Christian parents ONLY. I suggest a second edition and change the title so readers can decide if they want to purchase a book with Christian preaching.
This book covers a lot of really relevant current topics. One particular concept has absolutely changed the way that I am approaching my 10 year old son regarding content consumption. And he responded beautifully. Love the reminder that THE time to build open communication trust is between 8-12. I can see how that’s very true and the author provides a lot of practical ways to do that. The writing style is very casual/anecdotal but the large amount of ground covered is helpful.
