Happiness is an elusive beastie, that responds better to gentleness than brute force. In Are We Happy Yet?, Kamen will teach you how to tame that shy, skittish creature we call happiness, and aid you in cultivating a permanent relationship with it. Kamen lists eight keys to cultivating an enduring bond with our inner bliss and serenity.. Each key is expanded upon, and there are checklists and quizzes to help you learn your happiness level, and narrow down other factors in your life that may be affecting that happiness.
Personal stories (from Kamen’s life, and from lives of people she has worked with), like glittering golden thread, are woven throughout, with beautiful quotes studded, gem-bright, amongst it all, inviting the reader to pause a moment in contemplation. I often found unexpected insights during these moments. I love that Kamen makes mention of Don Miguel Ruiz and his Toltec wisdom books, which are among my favourite for facilitating change and fostering growth. Reading g through this book prompted me back into my gratitude rituals, which I had sadly let slip, and got me to thinking about volunteer work I could do that fits my health level, and passions. I am going to see if there are nearby places, hospitals preferably, who need volunteers to read to patients.
📚📚📚📚 Recommended. If you are ready to let go of unhappiness and change your paradigm, Kamen's Are We Happy Yet? is a great place to start.
What would you say if I told you there’s a formula for happiness? What if i told you happiness is available to all but isn’t something you’re entitled to? Would you believe me if I told you happiness comes from inside and not from anything external—not stuff, not people, not circumstances?
What would you say if I told you the keys to unlocking happiness were available in paperback?
Are We Happy Yet? author Lisa Cypers Kamen says happiness comes from the transformative power of self-mastery, and that happiness isn’t the destination but a byproduct of the journey.
Curious? There’s more.
In her book, she confronts common objections for why we aren’t or can’t be happy. Trauma, genetic depression, real problems, etc. Not discounting the challenges we face, there are ample exercises and quizzes to help readers gauge where we’re at happiness-wise and arm ourselves with the data we need to move forward, towards a happier life. She challenges readers to deal with the mental horde of stuff packed away in our attic and take a more emotional minimalist approach—let it go!
Each of the eight keys is defined, explained, and unpacked using storytelling, clear language, and motivational exercises. If you’re wondering where your happiness roadblocks are, this book will help you define, deal with, and move past them.
Wonderful, inspiring, deep, hearty, transforming and more! The search for happiness has been a relevant topic since I was aware, you hear it in family conversations, in school, during the existential crises of friends. We wondered what that formula would be, that magic or secret that seems to evade humanity. Human existence in modern civilization has become very complex, where frivolity and lack of values is fashionable, full of distractions and temporal gratifications of apparent happiness, many stimuli that cause us to be escapists and evade ourselves, we avoid take responsibility for our inner reality, resolve the conflicts of our deep emotional life, and develop our capacity for transformation that allows us to transcend our personal adverse experiences to choose to feel happy. And the truth is that, as Lisa Cypers tells us, it requires an effort that allows us to progress, it requires a lot of courage to change, grow and be socially responsible for a greater good. In the author's definition of Happiness: ”it's a way of life, a flourishing existence defined by fulfillment, growth and contention. "Happiness is emotional muscle-tone that is soul-centered, heart-focused, authentically, intimately, interdependent and interconnected." A fluent reading book with excellent information, with a workbook like mix: through questionnaires that allow better awareness and understanding of what is required to transform, as well as practical suggestions; in short a book that thoroughly recommend! My gratitude to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book
I got this book from the giveaway and just recently start reading it after my return from studying abroad. I was pretty impress by how the simple advises in this book can really touch us; offering better perspectives as to how to really live our life to the fullest and find ourself in the process as an individual. In our complicated society now days, even if we know how to be happy, most of us do not consider walking that path as we have been too use to following the norms and rules of the society. This book serves as a reminder of connecting back with our soul again for those of us who have lost ourselves. There are also quizzes included in the book too! This book is inspiring and transforming especially for those of us who really need it!
I'm obsessed with books about happiness and have read a lot of them over the past two years, but Are We Happy Yet? really stands out. I love how it's broken down into 8 keys for happiness, and how relateable the content is. My story is similar to Lisa's as I too have struggled with depression. Most self-help books act like depression can be overcome with happy thoughts, but Lisa gets it, The emphasis on compassion in battling depression, and turning to other humans for support and love and hope is truly the best advice I've received for living with my mental illness.,
Note: I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
This book is okay. I was initially a little put off because each of the quizzes at the beginning that measure different "happiness indicators" all have a few questions that just don't make sense in an editing issue way. Some parts really ramble on and I don't feel I learned much that wasn't common sense. I liked the example stories best, but at the same time, they felt more like bragging than a good example of the "key."
Are We Happy is such a great read for me. With this book, I have made a lot of realizations. I’ve learned a lot from this book on how to become ultimately happy. Giving my 5 stars for this book.
