Hunter Legacy #1

Born of Darkness

Rate this book
As a former assassin in the Hunter program, Asher is one of a small group of Gen One Breed vampires who survived the horrors of a madman’s laboratory and the cruelty of the training that made him one of the most lethal beings in existence. Now, twenty years after his escape from those hellish origins, Asher is a loner whose heart is as cold as his skills are merciless. But when he thwarts a killing under way in the middle of the desert outside Las Vegas, Asher meets a beautiful woman who draws him into a deadly game against powerful enemies—one that will test both his skills and his tarnished honor.

Naomi Fallon is used to getting out of dicey situations. Orphaned as a child after her mother’s murder, she didn’t survive twenty-six years on the street without using up most of her nine lives. But when her latest caper lands her in the Mojave against a Vegas gangster’s henchman, she’s certain her number is up.

Then he appears—immense, brutal, and far from human. Naomi’s never needed anyone’s help, least of all one of the Breed. But after one risk too many, only a man with Asher’s skills can keep her safe. Yet the solitary, seductively handsome vampire has enemies of his own, and a secret that will not only shatter her faith in him but her heart, proving what she’s feared all along—that trust is only an illusion and love may be the sharpest weapon of all.

Asher and Naomi

A spinoff series from the Midnight Breed! And obviously it is a great start.

Hunters are the Gen One Breed warriors who were constructed to be killers by Dragos and they managed to escape when their collars were removed.

Hunters' stories are included in the following books:
Deeper Than Midnight (Midnight Breed, #9) by Lara Adrian
Crave The Night (Midnight Breed, #12) by Lara Adrian
Midnight Unbound (Midnight Breed, #14.6) by Lara Adrian
Midnight Unleashed (Midnight Breed #14.7; 1001 Dark Nights #68) by Lara Adrian ,
There are part of the main series and they are mainly stories about Gen One warriors that have strong connections with the Order.

Of course there are also many other Hunters that were never close to the Order and the warriors of the Order. The only thing they have ever learned in their life is how to be killers. So when they have to live a kind of normal life among normal humans, they will have difficulties.

It had been twenty years since the Breed was outed to the humans sharing this planet with them, but relations were still tenuous at best. Fortunately, those problems belonged to others among his kind. Asher was glad to leave the political fire-fighting and heroics to the warriors of the Order and their commanders stationed in major cities around the world. As for himself? He’d done enough killing, and he had never been anything close to a hero.

This book actually talks about two Hunters: Asher and Cain.
Asher managed to be saved and he lives a peaceful life thanks to an eldery man who kept him close as a companion.
Cain is the head security team of a casino and he does not seem to be a nice Breed.

Naomi is a Breedmate with special abilities. She is a thief (but for a good reason) and she looks after the homeless troubled children with her friend Michael.

Naomi will be saved and loved by Asher and she will be chased and threatened by Cain and his boss.

Overall I enjoyed the story. It is a nice adventure and it has some deeper meanings about
-friendship and companionship,
-the support and guidance of people in need -especially children,
-the forgiveness about mistakes of the past,
-the vanity of material things and money,
-the importance of true love

It's been 20 years since Asher escaped from his hellish upbringing in the labs, where he was forced to kill, he now lives a solitary existence in an isolated home in the middle of the desert. Hunted by what he was forced to do, he sees himself as irredeemable, a monster.

Naomi lost her family when she was only a child, when her mother disappeared, murdered but forgotten by all but her daughter. Now, Naomi does whatever it takes to survive and help protect the children she cares for, with her best friend. Her last scheme results in her being crated off by some dangerous goons, bleeding and losing consciousness, she is rescued by Asher, who intends to drop her off at the nearest hospital and be done with her, that is until he realises she is a rare Breedmate, and he is honour bound to protect her.

Asher and Naomi are both strong characters who refuse to back down, which leads to some lovely fireworks.

I liked the ending of the book – it was nice seeing .

Overall an engaging read that has me interested in reading more books in the series. This can be read as a standalone.

Born of Darkness is the first book in Lara Adrian's new Hunter Legacy series, a spin of set in the same world as her bestselling Midnight Breed books. Each of these stories are going to be standalone paranormal romances so you don't have to be familiar with the original series to enjoy them but longtime fans will appreciate the chance to spend more time in this world and to find out what happened to the many Gen One Breed Hunters bred and trained by Dragos.

It's been 20 years since Asher escaped from his hellish upbringing in the labs and he prefers to live a pretty solitary existence in an isolated home in the middle of the desert. He's never really forgiven himself for the things he was forced to do as a child and he's barely kept in contact with any of his siblings. Naomi lost her family when she was only a child, her mother was murdered and her time in the system ended with her living on the streets fending for herself. She does whatever it takes to survive and help protect the other children she cares about but her latest scheme has left her in more danger than ever before. When Asher comes to her rescue he plans to just drop her at the nearest hospital and be done with her but when he realises she is a Breedmate he is honour bound to protect her until the danger has passed.

This was the perfect blend of romance, action and suspense and a brilliant start to a new series. Both main characters were great they may have had difficult backgrounds but with work they were able to turn their lives around. Asher is a loner who is wary of letting anyone get close because he worries they'll blame him for his past but Naomi is open and warmhearted and does everything she can to help others who are in a similar situation to her. It takes a while for Asher to open up but inside he's just as protective as Naomi and he has brilliant instincts. They're both strong characters who refuse to back down so there are plenty of fireworks between them but I think that just made their romance even more passionate.

I love the Midnight Breed world so it was a joy to dive into this story even though we don't actually see any characters from the main series. I'm looking forward to getting to know more of the Hunters and I hope we'll see more of Asher and Naomi again too, I'd like to see him rebuild his relationship with his brothers a little and I think Naomi is the perfect person to help him do that. I have a feeling we've already met at least one half of the next couple and I'm definitely looking forward to their story too.

4.5 Gen One Hunter Stars!!

Born of Darkness, is Book#1 of Lara Adrian’s new spin off series Hunter Legacy. If your a fan of Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series then you will love this series. It’s set in the same world as MB, 20 years after the Breed had been outed to the world. Now all of Drago’s freed Hunter Assassins are learning to live with the freedoms they have been given upon their release..

This first book we are introduced to Asher. He’s been living a life of solitude on a small ranch on the outskirts of Las Vegas NV. Because of the things Dragos forced him to do, he has decided to live his life alone. He is content in his freedom, even if he isn't truly living, only surviving. Then Naomi stumbled into his life and turns his world upside down. He is drawn into a deadly game that changes his quite life of self imposed solitude.

Naomi is a Breedmate who has a gift that she uses to cheat at gambling, but, there’s a bigger motive for her actions, a motive that puts her in the cross hairs of a man who’s willing to stop nothing to get to Naomi. Now it’s up to Asher to keep her safe from a lethal enemy.....or die trying.

All-in-all, this book kept me enthralled from start to finish. The characters were dynamic, complex, and strong. Asher and Naomi are great together...eventually. I had a bit of trouble conecting to Naomi in the beginning, however, her strong presence captured me in the end. I loved their story and I can’t wait for the next book in this series, hopefully Cain’s book?? Fingers crossed! I highly recommend to fans of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series or any fan of PRN romance, especially yummy vampires.

What a nice start to this spin off series by Lara Adrian. Born of Darkness is a mix of Vegas gangsters and revenge.

We find out about one of the most feared of Drago’s Assassins, Asher. It’s been 20 years since his escape from a hellish upbringing. He lives a solitary existence in the middle of the desert. He’s haunted by what he was forced to do and sees himself as irredeemable, a monster.

Naomi lost her family as a child and has made her own family by helping and protecting children who have been abused, lost, or on their own. She does whatever it takes to survive, but her latest scheme results in her life being in danger.

Life changes for both of these two when Asher rescues Naomi and releases she’s a rare Breedmate. Both are strong characters who refuse to back down which leads to fireworks.

Hunter Legacy is a spin off of Lara Adrian Midnight Breed series. I don’t feel you have to read one to start the other. I started the Midnight Breed pre-blogging, but never finished. I just got side tricked.

Narration: Roger Wayne is a new to me narrator. I liked his pacing and wide range of voices. I felt he captured Asher and Naomi’s quirks and personalities well. The only issue I had was Naomi’s voice. It got on my nervous and took away a bit of my enjoyment, but still it was an enjoyable listen.

Born of Darkness gives us suspense, romance, and sizzling Vampires. Your heartstrings will be tugged.

A nice addition to the Breed world. Good characters and plot. It's nice to have the main male character be a person outside The Order. Looking forward to the next one. Happy reading!

She was a bit of a twit...

I'm a huge fan of paranormal romance but one thing that gets my goat is how the heroine always seem to be hit by the silly stick when her life is in danger. Besides that, I enjoyed my first foray into Lara Adrian's paranormal world.

Plenty of action, suspense and sexy times to keep my interest and I will definitely be back for more in the future.

I wasn't sure how the Hunter Legacy would be in comparison to the normal Breed books..... I shouldn't have worried, Born of Darkness was every bit as good.... and I bet that future books will be even more!!

Loved Asher and Naomi and their entire story. Lara Adrian never ceases to amaze me with her writing and I can't wait to read more in the new spin off series.

I liked Asher, the Gen One Breed vampire, quite a bit. Silent, broody, deadly. I can't say the same for Naomi. In fact, she ruined the book for me. There was not a single thing about her that I found that I liked. There was zero chemistry between her and Asher, and TBH, I was glad. He deserved better.

Storywise, this is a 2, but I'm bumping up to a 3 because I've always enjoyed Adrian's work in the past. I'll give book two in this new series a try. Just hope it's better.

I received this book for free from Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

It's no secret that we are huge fans of the Midnight Breed series here at UTC.  In fact, if you want to start reading a good PNR and don't know where to start, Lara Adrian is a great place to start!  So when we heard she was writing a spin off we were beyond excited.

The Hunter Legacy series follows the assassins from the Hunter program.  If you are Midnight Breed fan, this is a must read.  But if you are new to Lara Adrian, this is also a great place to start.  It's written in a way that makes it easy enough to jump in in my opinion.  And then once you fall in love with Ms. Adrian's writing, you'll have plenty of other books to keep you company while you wait for the next one to come out.

BORN OF DARKNESS has the perfect blend of recluse, sexy hero and spunky heroine.  I really enjoyed both characters individually.  They've gone through a lot of heartache in the past and they are both dealing with that the best way they can.  But together they are able to cope better and overcome obstacles.  I really liked how they managed to bring the best out in each other.

Lara Adrian excels at writing unique and fresh stories.  That's always what keeps me coming back for more.  This was no different.  It's a mix of Vegas gangsters and revenge while set in the Mojave desert and the bright lights of the Vegas strip.  It was just a lot of fun to read.  Your heart can't help but open up for these Hunters and the things they've experienced.  The memories of what they've had to do.  I am really excited we are getting that glimpse into them and can't wait for the next one.

“On your back, vampire. It’s my turn to torture you.”

Paranormal Romance was how I actually got introduced to the romance genre and at first it was my absolute favorite, but in the recent years I found myself shying away from it. I’m not sure if it was the lack of great material out there or what, but Contemporary Romance ended up taking over my life and PNR got pushed to the wayside and when I think hard on that, it’s incredibly sad. If there is one author who could pull me out of a PNR funk it would be Lara Adrian! She was my favorite back then, and she’s still a favorite of mine now. When I saw that she was doing a series spin-off of her INCREDIBLE Midnight Breed Series, I about FREAKED the freak out! That was AMAZING news because that series will go down as one of my all time favorites in the PNR world.

BORN OF DARKNESS, book one in Adrian’s NEW Hunter Legacy series brings us Asher and Naomi, two unforgettable characters with heavy demons in their past…and present. Their connection is immediate even though they don’t know what to make of one another. They have their preconceived notions, but those end up going to hell the minute they touch. Their journey was so entertaining, so sexy, and so hauntingly beautiful, I couldn’t put it down. I don’t remember the last time I was so damn excited about a new series starting, and after devouring BORN OF DARKNESS, I just know that the PNR community is SO READY for this! Get ready to FALL IN LOVE with a different brand of vampire…get ready for the HUNTER LEGACY!

1.5*. This was such a disappointment, it was skirting the 1* mark but I couldn't quite do that to the author of one of my favourite series. I haven't any issues with the writing, or even the plot but the non-romance. To call what happens between the main leads romance, that's not right. No emotional depth, no chemistry, the h was particularly annoying, it all equated to no romance. I sincerely hope the next book will be a lot better, because we know Lara Adrain can do a lot better. Just look at the Midnight Breed series.

WOW!! What a Spin Off!! Hunter Legacy is the spin off from the Midnight Breed series. For all the the readers of MB you will remember Dragos and his Gen One Hunters. This is the Hunter, Asher"s story and his wonderful breedmate Naomi/Narumi. These lead characters are written very well. You will fall in love with both of them. The story is a fast paced, suspenseful, great secondary characters, sad at times and good backstory, for those who have read the Midnight Breed series. Which I Highly Recommend!! The Hunters are Gen One Vampires that were created by the most evil Breed ever Dragos . Twenty years later they are free and telling there stories. They don't disappoint. The love, romance between Asher and Naomi was beautifully written. The children add an element of realism to any story. I Can't wait for the next book in The Hunter Legacy!! I hope it is Cain and Rachel!!

Born Of Darkness is a great story and very well written with Lovable Characters!!

I have never read a book in which a deceased character is referred to constantly and in such a beautiful way, that makes it as if said character is a vivid part of the book and the reader gets to know them through the eyes and memories of the other characters. I really liked that, as well as the main story which perhaps lacked more action. Not that much of a spinoff, but rather a novel with less references to and interaction with the Order and a better focus on other characters and not just the main ones. It was also refreshing having a different villain rather than Opus Nostrum. The biggest star in the book though was Sam the hound.

I read and loved the first Midnight Breed book and read them at the time on my Nook during my pre-blogging days. By the time I discovered there were more books in the series I was way behind. And as any reader knows, we have oodles of books and series on and in our TBR pile. So when I saw there would be a spinoff series I jumped in.

Born of Darkness introduces Asher a hunter-breed vampire that escaped in the Midnight Breed series. He found refuge on a homestead in the Mojave Desert, near to Vegas. The old man who took him in taught Asher skills and gave him a second chance at life. While his psychic gift still plagues him and he struggles to find peace he is relatively happy with his quiet existence. That is until he rescues Naomi and discovers she is a female revered by the breed community.

Naomi Fallon is a spunky, gifted young woman who grew up on the streets of Vegas after a powerful man destroyed her mother. Intent on revenge she uses her special gift by emptying his coffers one win at a time. She then uses those funds to provide shelter to the many abandoned children who sleep, in the streets, along sunset strip. Together with her best friend, Michael they provide a safe, warm place to stay. But, Naomi's latest heist finds her in the trunk of a limo and facing certain death.

I loved the intense suspense thread and romance that developed. It reminded me why I loved those first Midnight Breed books so much. Adrian brought sizzling heat and mixed in broken characters you cannot help but root for. Asher's story will tug at your heartstrings. We also got moments that made me laugh aloud and heck I even squeed a few times. The balance of dark and light worked perfectly.

Roger Wayne was a new-to-me narrator.  His pacing was good, and I liked the wide range of voices he provided. I felt like he captured Asher and Naomi's personalities and quirks. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Okay so it wasn't everything I was expecting it to be but it could have been much worse. I love Lara Adrian and to be honest, I had not read one of her books in quite a while so Born of Darkness was just what I needed to start new with her. A new series, albeit a spin-off of her Midnight Breed series, you can definitely read it without previously having read the other one. I stopped the MB series at book 7 if I remember correctly and I can say for sure, you can read Born of Darkness without having read her previous work.

As far as the story goes, I enjoyed it, it's a fairly quick read and maybe that's what didn't work for me. I liked the beginning of the story, the characters introduction and how they met but then everything went extremely fast after that. I get the breedmate thing and the fact that vampires bond differently, faster, more primal, a gut feeling they have. That being said, their relationship simply didn't work for me. Too rushed, no real connection (on my part), I just didn't connect with them, which is honestly a shame because I did enjoy the book as a whole.

I found the premise of it really interesting, Asher is one of the Gen One vampires who was bred for one thing only, serve and kill. Held captive for years by a psychopath, he still bore the deep scars serving Drago against his will gave him. Now twenty years later, Asher is a different man, at least he's trying to be. He lives alone in the desert, no one to bother him, just him and his dog, that is until he stumbles upon Naomi, right in the middle of nowhere, he saves her life.

I personally didn't know Asher's story having not read the Midnight Breed books that spoke of it, but everything is explained properly and I was able to get a better picture of what his life was before. I did enjoy that and his first meeting with Naomi but, like I said, it did not get better from there, unfortunately.

Naomi was not my favorite heroine, she had her moments but she made some pretty stupid decisions throughout the book, especially at the end, how can someone be this dumb, I sometimes wonder. She got on my nerves and kinda ruined the book for me.

Asher I liked. Big bad vampire, used to be left alone, with a dark past, I mean, what's not to like. He was still very sweet with her and tried his best to accommodate her despite him not being used to having someone with him.

I did find his attraction to her way too sudden and intense, I don't know why it didn't work for me because it usually does but not with this one. Probably because I didn't connect with the characters enough. I think it all comes back to the fact that this book isn't a big one and Lara had to fit a lot in a 300 pages book. I did enjoy my reading though, I will definitely read the next one because I am intrigued by the Hunter program and what the other vampires have become. Bring it on!

Naomi Fallon is a chameleon though it's more necessity than choice. Some days it hard to remember who she really is as she's had to change her looks and persona way too many times to keep track of.

Everyone makes a mistake at some point which is the case when Naomi finds herself in the hands of thugs who work for Vegas's premier mafia kingpin. Just as all seems lost and Naomi resigns herself to her fate, she is rescued by her own proverbial tall dark 'knight in shining armor' hero. A hero who she can't rely on as he and his kind have been searching for her for a totally different reason which is why she's been hiding in the first place.

Gen One Breed vampire Asher is the boogeyman of nightmares for his kind. Having escaped from his past, Asher lives a solitary life away from mainstream society in penance for all that he's done and to avoid becoming noticed by Breed vampires. His life of isolation is threatened when he steps in to prevent the killing of a female child only to find out the female is a breedmate. Breedmates are the one entity he is sworn by oath and heritage to protect.

* * * *

Spin off series from the "Midnight Breed" series, this story might be able to be read as a standalone but to really appreciate the full flavor of this new series, it's highly suggested to have read "Midnight Breeds" to some degree. For existing fans, this new series is just as good, if not better, than "Midnight Breeds".

I had read this story when initially released but failed to log in so I re-read in anticipated of Sept 25, 2018 release of the 2nd installment Hour of Darkness (Hunter Legacy #2).

Loved the story line and world building that includes a reasonable premise for this spin off. Main characters had chemistry while secondary characters added value and depth supporting the actual world building.

A good start to this new series and definitely one to check out for existing (and possible new) fans of this author.

4 stars!

This is the first book in the Hunter Legacy series, and I was so excited to dive back into Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed World. This series is a spin-off from one of my fave PNR series, but you don’t need to have read Midnight Breed to enjoy this one, it easily stands alone as a great vampire romance, though long-time Lara fans will love it!

Asher is a Hunter - a vampire cruelly bred in a laboratory to become a lethal, ruthless assassin. He was a prisoner until he and others of his kind were freed from their captivity, and now, 20 years later, Asher is living a solitary life on a farm just outside of Las Vegas, still struggling under the weight of the guilt and disgust of all that he was forced to do. But when he interrupts an attempted murder in the Mojave, his quiet existence is about to change forever.

Naomi survived a hellish childhood to become a strong young woman driven by both her need to protect other at-risk children who would otherwise be homeless, and by her need for vengeance. She is determined to bring down the wealthy casino owner who is responsible for her mother’s death as a child, and her unique skills have put her on his radar, putting her in a world of trouble when she is dragged to the middle of the desert in the middle of the night at gunpoint.

She is rescued by a tall, dark and dangerous Breed male who takes her into his home and cares for her. Asher recognises Naomi as a Breedmate, one of the rare woman on earth who is able to mate with a vampire and deserving of his respect and protection. But he quickly finds himself drawn into her troubles as he takes on the role of her protector, determined to defend her from danger – even if she doesn’t want it.

It’s an exciting, dramatic ride that had me hooked as Naomi determinedly seeks out the justice she has fought so hard for, and Asher fights to protect “the Breedmate who’d not only upended his solitary existence but lit it on fire.

He wasn’t prepared for how deeply this female was impacting his life. He didn’t have room for the trouble she was bringing into his solitary world. And he sure as hell wasn’t prepared to deal with all of the feelings she’d been stoking inside him from the moment their eyes first met.

And, of course, it’s all enhanced by the sizzling chemistry between Asher and Naomi as they find themselves helplessly attracted to each other, and oh holy hell, it’s HOT!

The feeling he had for her went far beyond lust. It was something profound and elemental, something primal and undeniable. Something possessive and permanent.
Mine.

Asher and Naomi are great characters with strong backgrounds that have greatly influenced who they have become. I particularly loved that even though they have both been through hell, they are honourable and good, and Asher's guilt over his past just endeared him to me even more! They have secrets, but all is eventually revealed, and as they open up to each other, they find their connection becoming stronger and stronger as they fall madly for each other, and I loved watching it all happen for them!

But the threat to Naomi is very real, and with the bad guy getting closer and the danger all too real, they will need to learn to trust in each other – and themselves – to get their HEA.

I loved this book. The characters are great, their stories tie together beautifully, and I thought that they were a fantastic match for each other. I could feel the chemistry, and their growing feelings for each other, and I was swept up in their fast-paced, intense romance.

I thought the action/suspense storyline was fantastic, with some twists and a whole lot of emotion. Parts of it were unexpected, but again, it ties in so well to Asher and Naomi’s story, and I was captivated as it all played out.

Lara Adrian has delivered a strong series starter with this one, and I’m really excited to read more about the intriguing Hunters as this series progresses.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I'm not quite caught up on the Midnight Breed series yet, but I couldn't resist diving into the lives of the Hunters. Those Breed warriors who were engineered and brought up by Dragos into killers. They are not in any organized group like the Order, but each has their own life.

In Born of Darkness, Asher is a Breed vampire formerly of the Hunter program who has been living out in the Mojave desert for years. He was pretty content in his solitude. Then one night on his way home he stumbles onto some hitmen in the middle of dragging their mark out for the kill. The victim appears to just be a young boy, but when Asher interferes to save the boy, he is surprised to find that he has actually saved a young woman. To complicate matters even more, this woman appears to be a Breedmate. The most protected and cherished women for the Breed. Asher tries to turn her over to the Order for protection but the stubborn and independent Naomi will have none of that.

Naomi has been on her own basically since she was 8 years old. She believes her mother to have been killed by an influential casino owner and she is out to bring him down. She lives with a man she has grown up in the streets with and together they have put together a place where homeless children can come for a safe place. However, when that safe place isn't safe anymore because of one of Naomi and Michael's little tricks at the casino, the kids scatter leaving Asher and Naomi struggling to find them.

The casino owner happens to have an ex-Hunter as his chief of security. Cain has figured out who Naomi is despite all her disguises when hitting up the casinos. However, all of Cain's detective work gets brought to the boss before Cain can present it. I'm not sure if Kane was fired or left on his own, but on his way out he makes some pretty big accusation about Asher to Naomi. If what Cain says is true, Asher is really a monster and nothing like what Naomi has witnessed her few days with him.

Born of Darkness was exciting. It contained a lot of action and seemed to fly by. Naomi's actions created a spiral of deadly events for her group and the two must come together to fight to keep Naomi and the kids alive. We also learn so much about Asher and what he went through as a Hunter. The things about him that make the other Hunters despise him, but are so far from the actual truth of the situation. This book just seemed to jump from one dangerous situation to another. There was a nice romance between Asher and Naomi, but for me the danger really kept me tuned in.

I found the narration great with all the characters including the children and I was kept in the whirlwind of the story the whole time. Roger Wayne did a wonderful job with Born of Darkness. The pacing was well done and my adrenaline built right with the story.

Born of Darkness was a great start to the Hunter Legacy series. No book one syndrome here for me. Maybe because I'm used to the world already from the Midnight Breed series. I'm anxious to learn about more of the Hunters. Especially Cain after he departed Las Vegas in this book. I'm curious to know where he went and what his plans were. This is definitely a great spin off and I'm excited that Lara Adrian turned to the Hunters to tell their stories. This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict

I confess it's several years since I read the Breed series so I'm happy to finally start this spin off series. Asher was a assassin known as a hunter for the late and definitely not lamented Dragos. Now he's living a quiet life on a ranch outside Vegas when he stumbles across three men clearly about to execute a young boy.
Naomi has a unique way around machinery and that's enabled her to twist some of the gaming machines in a casino owned by the man she believes had her mother murdered. She hadn't expected to get caught so easily and yep now she's in big trouble. Luckily one of the infamous Breed shows up and saves her but when he notices her birth mark everything changes.
Ok I've always loved the Breed stories but this felt like a much quicker read than I remembered and its not even a novella ! Still I did enjoy it although the love was a little quick for me although I cannot fault the newer, more free Breed because it's allowing the author to go in whole new directions.

Born of Darkness is the first book in Lara Adrian’s Hunter Legacy series and it’s a book that had me conflicted about my rating. On the one hand, this one hooked me with ease and ensured I could not put it down. On the other hand, it never quite gave me everything I had expected it would.

I think my big problem with this one is the fact the world building was never as clear as I would have liked it to be. I blame this on the fact this is the spin-off of another series, and I’m sure I’d understand this one better if I’d read the other series. As it stands, there were quite a few things that I felt were either never explained properly or they were given in an information dump at a point where it wasn’t overly convenient. Don’t get me wrong, the story was addictive – albeit, I did not buy into the romance between the characters – and it certainly has me curious about the rest of the universe. As addictive as it was, I was left wanting more – and not in the sense that I was hooked on the world, but in the sense that I needed something to help with my understanding of the universe.

All in all, this was a quick and enjoyable read, but it didn’t quite hit all the marks.

I really liked this one. The hero Asher was great, very devoted and possessive and of course strong. I liked the heroine also but I will say she did have a TSTL moment that I thought to myself really. Nothing horrible though. I will say I wish we had gotten more of the hero's past int his book. We obviously know from her Breed series but I would have loved more of his actual history in this one. This is a great start to a new series that I am very excited for. We may have gotten a glimpse into who the next hero is(maybe?). I am excited to see where this series takes us.
