Lukas Vance finds a list of towns, and in each one he discovers a murdered 19-year-old who smells almost like pack even though he knows they can't be related to him. He reaches the next town on the list before the killer, determined to get the intended victim out of this situation alive. When he catches the familiar pack scent and sees the guy it belongs to, Lukas wants to do so much more than protect him.
Chris Keenan doesn't know why gorgeous, broody Lukas thinks he's in danger. Lukas says he wants to keep him safe, and when Chris freaks out Lukas is the only one able to calm him down. Chris has been feeling off for a while, and whatever's causing that seems to be related to the list of towns and the murderer who's made him a target. Instead of going to the police, Chris puts his trust in Lukas. But even with Lukas protecting him, figuring out what's wrong with him may be the last thing Chris ever does.
This was a bit different. I liked it a lot, but I had a few issues with it.
I don't think this ended up being what I thought it was going to be and that's why I didn't enjoy it as much. I usually don't mind a story/character driven book with the romance being on the side, but this one felt a bit too long to not have some sexy time relief in the mix of it. I'm not saying there wasn't any, but it was more towards the end and with this book being so long it felt like forever getting there. Then when it did the book was coming to its conclusion. So I guess I felt a bit unsatisfied with the romance part. The story/character part was a different colored horse all together. (a shout out to the WOO LOL)
The story is kind of dark for what I thought might be a bit of a YA book considering it's a bunch of young people going on a kind of road trip together to solve their mystery. But there was some bloody murders and people were dying. I was a little unsettled by it. Especially when the author started I was surprised by it, but I didn't hate it. I liked that I was surprised and didn't see the story taking that turn. But when the author almost took out I about through my damn Kindle. I wasn't happy about that turn of events at all.
Now for the characters, I really liked the different group of personalities that we got. They all had their own uniqueness that they brought to the little family pack they created. Albert was by far my favorite character. Him and Griffin. I need them to be together. Their banter and chemistry needs to be a GFY story. We already know Griffin is an equal opportunity guy and loves sex with both genders. But our quirky Albert was all about the ladies in this book. Even if he failed at all attempts at getting one. Neither were the MC's in this story but they were the closest person to both of the MC's with Griffin being Logan's brother and Albert being Chris' best friend. These boys brought the relief this book so needed. It dragged in parts and was depressing in others. So their banter and comedic timing helped move this book along.
The story was interesting. It was definitely different from other shifter books and that's always nice. So many are about Omega's being mated to an Alpha. So it's always nice finding a shifter book that differs from that.
Logan and Chris definitely had chemistry and a connection. I liked them. I liked them together. I just wished we got more of the romance with them. It felt a bit rushed at the end between them.
The mystery element was strong. I had no clue as to what was going to happen or who was behind it and we still don't have all the answers. So I look forward to the next book and having more answers that this book left unanswered.
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it! Now I am waiting for book 2 in this series, very impatiently lol Shelley Grayson masterfully wove romance, comedy, mystery, and of course a thrilling chase. The characters in this story were realistic (not counting the paranormal aspects) and they were well developed to bring the reader deeply into their story as it unfolded. I loved the UST between the characters as they had to put their carnal desires on hold in order to survive. I would recommend this story to anyone who loves mm romance shifter style! 5 stars!
Shift is a story that grabbed me right from the beginning and kept me engrossed throughout the entire book, eager to solve the mystery of who is threatening these shifters and why. It got to the point where I had to force myself not to pick it up at times, as I had no self control and would keep on reading long past when I had other things that needed to get done. This is the first book I have read by Shelley Grayson, and I was so excited to find a new author and series that I enjoyed so much.
What I really loved the most is how this is kind of a non-traditional paranormal. There are definitely strong paranormal elements going on here, with two werewolves and three shifters of some type among the group. But this isn’t a fated mates, alpha/pack kind of story. The blurb describes it as an “urban fantasy, ensemble cast adventure” and I would say that is a great way to put it. Despite being about shifters, the book has a more mystery/suspense type feel as figuring out what is going on and who is behind it is the real focus of the story. And I was totally drawn in to this one. Grayson does a wonderful job of laying out information at just the right pace that we slowly begin to put the pieces together along with our gang. I will say that I caught the kernel of what was going on fairly early on in the story, but I had no idea how it would come together or what was actually happening until it was revealed in the book. The way the pieces come into place is just fascinating, and Grayson keeps the tension high as they are fighting for their lives against an unknown enemy.
Nice! A great character driven storyline where the romance grows. Yes, there are werewolves but it's insta lust not insta love.
I really liked the storyline. It's different than the usual and the romance took a backseat to the plot. While I do enjoy smexy times in the books I read I do get annoyed when while in the midst of danger and they have to stop the bad guy from his world domination plot the characters drop where they are for sex. Uhm.. not usually.
You won't find that here. Yes there is arousal & a few serious kisses but taking care of the safety of the pack is more important than getting their rocks off!
The pack! I love them! Each character in the story is important & unique and I love them all.
I really hope I don't have to wait long for the next book!!
Shifter tales can be so many different things. They can hit you with magic, mystery, sexiness, and fun. Shelley Grayson’s Shift gives you all that and more.
Lukas Vance, a werewolf, is on the hunt. After finding a mysterious list of towns tucked under his windshield wiper, Lukas hits the road looking for answers. A gruesome scene and dead body has been discovered in every town on the list so far. Lukas is determined to get ahead of the killer though. His senses tell him he is close and on to something big and dangerous. And then he spots Chris. Smells Chris. He smells like his family’s bloodline—his pack. But Chris is human. Isn’t he? Lukas is overwhelmed with the need to get closer, to protect, to possess Chris. But why? Maybe together they can figure out what’s going on?
Chris and Lukas feel the pull of their attraction at first sight. Scenting, petting and nuzzling! They are sweet to watch. But something is off with Chris. He’s changing and panicking. He needs help and answers soon. I don’t want to give too much away here. Just know this shifter tale has a whole new supernatural feel. Throw a Scooby Gang like vibe into the mystery and you’ve got a FUN read filled with laughs. Lukas and Chris are joined by Griffin and Albert and more (but again don’t want to spoil). Griffin, Lukas’ brother, was my favorite. He’s got this sexy as hell mix of smartass and sweet going on. Pair that up with Chris’ BFF, Albert, and his geeky, non-stop energy and questions and BAM! You’ve got magic. This whole gang is hilarious, but Albert and Griffin are gold together. They snip, test, tease, and hang on tight to each other. Haha…Albert on the motorcycle makes me smile even thinking about it now. The whole pack felt like family. Like they’ve known each other forever—except for Roger. I had a problem warming up to Roger—he just moved in too fast for me. But overall, the way the pack comforted and protected each other pulled me right in. This group has chemistry! I loved watching it all develop.
“He was acutely aware of the space each person took up in the room, where they were and what was going on in their bodies, since their emotions all had unique undertones. Each scent found its way into him and filled up a spot inside him as though it had been hollowed out long ago and saved for just that person.”
There was a lot of
This is my first Grayson read, but it won’t be my last. I want more from this gang for sure! I need to see what’s going on with Griffin and Albert. I’ll be waiting right here for book two.
Ok….well this was…interesting, good interesting. The author classifies this story as a romance…I wouldn’t. There are romantic elements but they are few and far between. The connection between the two main characters is obvious and intense but it comes in second to the murder/mystery plot. This whole story basically centers on the mysterious murders of assumed random strangers. I liked the mystery. How this author was able to make this story more about random murders, low steam and romance and still keep my interest, I couldn’t tell you. But she did. This book is good. There are a lot of things going on, however so I had to purposely make sure I was taking it all in so I wouldn’t get confused later.
Chris Keenan is your typical college student until he meets Logan Vance. Logan is mysterious, older but Chris can’t deny there’s something about Logan that makes him feel safe. Strange things start happening to Chris’s body and Logan seems to be the only one that makes him feel better.
Logan knows he has to save Chris from whatever is out there killing random people but he’s not prepared for the instinctual pull he feels towards Chris.
With the help from his older brother Griffin, Logan takes Chris with him to try and save the other people on the list.
Like I mentioned this book is convoluted with a ton of different people, situations, and elements that are introduced. This book really had me guessing so I don’t want to give too much of the plot away.
This is my first book by this author and like I mentioned, I’m intrigued by this story. It did drag at a few different spots and like I mentioned there are a ton of things going on but I liked it.
I’m definitely interested in the next book and curious to see where the author takes the Hunter’s Rock characters.
Recommend.

Shift, is not a typical shifter story. When I read the blurb I put myself in a certain mindset. What this book was, was totally different than what I thought. First, it’s extremely dark. People actually die in this and it will break your heart. It also borders on horror in my opinion and is definitely a mystery. It’s a hard mystery really because the WHO isn’t something you’ll pick up on because there’s not really clues to it. Plus it looks like this will be an ongoing mystery.
My favorite character in this story was a secondary character. Not even one of the MCs. His name is Albert. He is Chris’s best friend and the highlight of this book. He gave this story levity. He brought all the humor and when this book drags you down…. And it will, Albert picks you up.
I wanted to fall hard for this book I was so excited for it but if I’m being honest I struggled with it. I had to stop and break from it and restart it. There’s a lot of drag to it and next to no pickup. It wasn’t until the 65% mark that we even got any answers at all. Up until then, it was a million questions and it became so frustrating for me.
When some of the mystery is revealed it just didn’t grab me like I hoped and it only sort of made sense to me. I was left with so many questions when it ended and I just wasn’t in love with it. That said it is well written, I like the author's style and Albert was the best part of this story. I’d totally recommend reading this just for him. He’s so worth it!
I do hope with the coming books in this series that everything will fuse together but for me, it was an interesting, gory, slightly confusing read.
I've read one book by this author before, and one I really disliked at that. But I thought to give her a second chance - everyone deserves one right?
After reading this I'm starting to rethink that statement. The overall plot of this book was really interesting as were the characters. But the writing.. left something to be desired. First of all; another round (or two) of editing is needed, names and words are mixed up, which is a big no no for me.
Another thing I disliked was the length of the book. As a general rule I have no issues with long books, but they need substance to fill all those pages. This one didn't. It could easily been cut down to about half the book without missing anything vital plot-wise. The rest was just filler. Boring filler at that.
And I'm just going to skip the whole Reardon rant..or well - mostly. I mean really?!? I'm going with hell no on that one. I mean I get his involvement in the past, but the promises he made now? Not buying it.
The interactions and relationships between the characters felt shallow and I never felt any connection between or to any of them. I also never really felt like I got to know any of them, which seems impossible in a 500+ page book. I do know that shifters are hungry - very hungry though, but I'm not sure that counts....
The book tried too hard to be something it wasn't and in the end it was a fail on most accounts and it failed to deliver what it promised, an interesting twist to the shifter stories out there. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This is one of those books that feels like Supernatural (the TV show). It really does. That kind of road trip type show with trying to figure things out - suspense and the slow gathering of clues. People missing. I enjoyed it - and it started throwing you right in - keeping you on the edge of your seat. It looses a bit of steam about 1/2 way in and continues that way due to an ensemble cast. It's not bad -- it just sets the stage and therefore my feelings were a bit diluted. The action was nicely done - creepy but weirdly real. Definitely going to put the next one on my automatic order list!
Wow! This was not what I expected. Usually shifter romance is a lot of cliche and insta-love and not a lot of meat to chew on - mostly feel-good fluff. But this! This had good bones and good meat and excellent execution. A very different take on an overdone genre too!
Shift is the first book in the Wolves of Hunters Rock series, and introduces us to a pair of brothers, Lukas and Griffin. Now, they have both received anonymous letters on their car windshields and, upon investigation, they find dead bodies. These bodies smell mostly like Pack, but there is something else too, something wrong. Lukas is the first one who finds someone who isn't dead, although Chris sometimes wishes he was due to his panic attacks. With Griffin, Albert, Lukas, and Chris, the story really starts, and definitely gives you something to get your teeth into.
WOW! What a story! What an introduction! This book is so full of outstanding characters it is hard to say which one had the bigger spot in my heart! I loved all of them for different reasons, although I will say that I shed more than a tear or two for Tad (no spoilers).
This is more of a mystery romance, and I love it for that. Our two main males seem to understand quite easily that being on the road with two or more others isn't exactly the right time to take the attraction between them any further. So the tension is high, and the race is against the clock and the mysterious unknown.
The writing is excellent, with no editing or grammatical errors to disrupt the reading flow. The pace is smooth and full of tension in the right places. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and can't wait to read more of the Hunters Rock wolves. Just one thing... be careful of those B12 vitamins!!! Absolutely recommended!
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *
Intriguing but the premise (a handwritten note listing a bunch of towns and left on a car windshield), is insufficient to reasonably justify all the activity that has flowed therefrom. Pausing. I might come back to this later.
More a 2.5 This wasn't exactly the story I thought it would be, considering the blurb and the note given by the author at the beginning. It was only OK...
“Someone in his pack was dead nearby. He didn’t recognize the scent as anyone specific, couldn’t place the strange undertones, but Lukas should have recognized it…. He didn’t know this lost wolf who shared his blood. And that wasn’t possible.”
I got sucked straight into the worldbuilding in ‘Shift’ from the get-go. This is a new-to-me author and except for the blurb I had no idea about what to expect. What I found was a strange and unique shifter world, where humans don't know they exist, and the ties within a pack are much stronger on an emotional and even physical (or cellular) level. I've not read of shifters who can feel a packmate’s shift within their own bodies, sort of like a low-level hum, or a world where you are either born or bitten, but your scent is easily recognizable to all within your pack.
“Let me get this straight,” Albert said to Griffin. “He smells kind of like a member of your pack.”…. “But he can’t be, because you know every member of your pack, personally and by smell. They’re few and far between, and his parents don’t smell like pack, he’s not adopted, and he’s never been changed by a bite. So you’re saying it’s not possible that he’s your pack.”…. “And you think that whatever happened to the other kids in other towns who both had this strange pack-like smell is also going to happen to Chris.”
It was fascinating to watch Lukas, his brother Griffin, Chris, his best friend Albert, and Jules and her twin, Tad, trying to figure out what in the world was going on. Jules and Tad smell like Chris, and something unusual happened to Tad a while back, although I'm not telling what it was. Lukas and Griffin weren't able to save the first two kids who were murdered, but they're going to do their best to keep these three alive, and get answers to all of their questions. The biggest one being: how did this happen and what is the end result going to be?
“They were special, his motley little pack of strangers who’d grown as close as family in the matter of a couple of days. As much as their existence had complicated his life, he was privileged to know them, and ached all the more at the loss of Jennifer and Brent. Instinctively, he knew they would have found their places in the group, like puzzle pieces.”
Wow. So much more than I anticipated. For obvious reasons there's a lot that I can't share. Trust me, however, when I say that the mystery/suspense factor is high and very interesting as I hadn't guessed anything until it was slowly revealed. The thriller portion is equally high and very exciting. I really enjoyed the way this motley group of people ended up being pack, being family, and the way the author wrote it. I also liked the slow-burn romance between Lukas and Chris. All in all this was a unique story and I'll most definitely be interested in reading more.
When I started reading this, I thought I would enjoy it immensely. For the most part, it was a solid read too - interesting characters, a suspenseful plot that's very heavy on the suspense with the whole shifter/werewolf part and the romance more tools to heighten it rather than the points themselves.
The ending/resolution was ultimately lacking, in my opinion, and a little grotesque. The combining of information that was given, explored and expanded over the course of the book wasn't done entirely smoothly, and the "final battle" moment was more confusing than anything else, with an aftermath that left me bored. The epilogue made up for that, at least a little bit.
What ruined this book for me and almost entirely killed any motivation to continue reading was the way one character was treated - a mute character who was also the only one who's not neurotypical. He was singled out for being differnt, made fun of, outright insulted to his face for not being "normal", and this treatment isn't portrayed as something bad. Furthermore, his privacy is horribly disrespected, in ways that no other character has to endure. Again, this is never made a topic, as if it's OKAY to treat him that way. None of the other characters are treated like this.
For once that a shifter tale dares to break the common, fashionable mold in terms of length, primacy of easy, growly romance over carefully put together suspense and mystery, and avoidance of the more feral aspects of were life, and attempts to eschew as much as possible, or even twist on their head, the most hackneyed paranormal world-building, tropes, it had to be in the service of such an undeniably weak plot, unconvincing build-up of the action, and error-riddled narrative (on some pages, it takes an effort to restore the correct names or divine what on earth the point is that the author intended to make) that even a mediocre rating would be too much for it. I was off put from the very start by the transparent ploy of the list hastily scribbled on a bit of paper and the almost preposterous reaction it elicits in the main lead – a miserable incipit if there ever were one, especially written in the desperately bare and detached fashion which is one of Mrs Grayson’s trademark (the other being the almost obsessive concern for minute description of the most mundane things her characters do and live through, though she never cares to inform the reader of what both protagonists look like), such a perfunctory launch does a disservice to the rather bloody and meaty story that follows. So long as the murders kept on steering the plot forward, I remained onboard; but far too early the focus shifts from the overall mystery on the rather painful interactions between Lukas and Chris, to such an extent that as soon as it seemed as if Mrs Grayson’s potential for variation in their dealings was exhausted, my interest waned. All those pages stuffed with obvious filler could with advantage have been devoted to deepening the chemistry between the two leads instead of establishing how much they are aggravating – the downside of the author not being good at writing slow burn romance breaks out here with alacrity. I got the distinct impression that while it was full-blown sex that Mrs Gayson wanted to keep for the last act of the story, so that the long-delayed, climactic action could go hand in hand with the white-hot consummation of the two weres’ passion, she only managed to let evaporate whatever romantic flavor her pairing could produce. A strong first act, followed by a very long middle whose sagginess is as obvious as it was easy to remediate, with a breezy conclusion which did not shine at canvassing all the scattered plot-related elements into a harmonious whole – such a formula was scarcely conducive to a tremendous read.
Right now I'm cursing the fact that the next book in the series is not out yet. Why? Because I loved this story and can't wait to see what comes next! Shift is one of those books that didn't just pull me in, it yanked me hard and from there I was totally lost inside the story-the kind of lost where food and bathroom breaks become secondary.
One of the best parts about this book was the characters. I don't just mean Lukas and Chris, but everyone. The author goes beyond the surface for everyone, and the further into the book I read, the more I felt like I was also part of their pack. I think a lot of this was due to the continually intense atmosphere of the story and the extremely heightened emotions...it made me become highly invested in all of those considered "pack". As for Lukas and Chris, I was quite wrapped up in these two, the kind of wrapped up where I would be utterly devastated if things do not come out okay.
There's a lot going on this story. While Lukas and Chris are the main couple, everyone who is pack has a story being told, and that can make for a lot of information to absorb. But I was honestly fascinated by the intrigue that was woven for this tale, and I was soaking it all up as fast as I could. The drama, tension and suspense are constant from page one, and as everything came to a frenzied confrontation, I was constantly on edge as the chaotic events unfolded.
In addition to Shift being its own story with Lukas and Chris as the main couple focus, it also sets up a lot for the other characters down the road. My interest is particularly piqued for Griffin, Albert and especially Tad (please, please, please tell me we're going to get a good resolution for Tad-right now it's driving me crazy as he's my favorite!). One thing is for sure-this book has me securely hooked not just for the rest of the series, but also for every other title this author has available.
5 stars for Shift, and I do highly recommend this book to anyone who loves not just M/M urban fantasy/paranormal romance, but just UF/paranormal in general. It's exciting and delivers on the action and suspense front, and don't be surprised if you become hooked for the series after reading it as well. This story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language, M/M sexual content, and a bit of gory details during the big confrontation scene.
4/5 - WHAT A SURPRISE!!! I had mixed feelings at first, but this turned out to be a really great book that I was not expecting.
I'll be the first to admit, when I read this blurb, I was not interested in this book. While I love shifter stories, this one just didn't sound like my cup of tea. AND THEN I was browsing around on Goodreads and some beautiful soul (I wish I could find that review) made a comment about Shift being somewhat like Supernatural (the TV show), so I decided to cave and take a look for myself.
I was not disappointed. This book was very much like Supernatural, but it was more like a cross between Supernatural and Teen Wolf. I mean, the character mannerisms were kinda closely aligned with the Teen Wolf crew (and the chimera-like characters, very clearly modeled after TW) but there was also the brothers traveling across the country hunting bad things, sounds familiar, right? About a chapter in, enough for me to realize that this book was VERY much a cross between two extremely popular TV shows, I was arguing with myself over whether or not I should put it down and just walk away, but in the end the book won out and I kept reading.
Shift was interesting. The thing that REALLY made this book was the characters. Some of them definitely sounded like they were modeled after existing characters, but Grayson clearly put a lot of effort into making these characters her own. In addition, she wrote incredibly strong supporting characters. Albert and Lukas' brother (what was his name again - Griffin?) were my favorite, maybe more so than Lukas and Chris.
The romance plot between Chris and Lukas was definitely there, it was just a little wishy washy. I couldn't figure out where these two were going and then it was like all of a sudden they were making confessions. I mean, the lust was pretty evident throught the story, but one minute Lukas wants to keep a chasm between them and the next he wants his nose in Chris' neck 24/7 and I think I lost a little bit of the buildup somewhere along the way. That being said, Chris and Lukas were really adorable together so I didn't really care that much.
I got incredibly invested in the plot of this book, and maybe that's why I'm more willing to look over some of the plot bunnies. I got pulled into this book so fast that I didn't even realize it was 500+ pages until I sat down to write this review. This book had a seriously good plot and I can't wait to get my hands on Book #2 (fingers crossed, PLEASE let it be about Griffin).
Shift is getting mixed reviews, and I get it. My opinion on this book changed drastically from chapter to chapter, but by the end I got a really fantastic plot, amazing support characters, and the HEA I was after when I started reading. I would definitely recommend this to other M/M readers.
Disclaimer: This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed herein are my own and not influenced by the author or the publisher in any way.
Remember Paint by the Numbers when you were a kid? That's the way this book was written. The unnecessary, never-ending detail was excruciating. The lack of physical description of the characters was frustrating. The lack of knowledge about how to write an effective, exciting action scene was ever so disappointing. I could go on, but to what end?
I hate writing bad reviews, but this book was more user manual than a work of romantic urban fantasy. It was a chore to trudge through. Won't continue the series or read anything else by this author.
Wow, what a great new paranormal story this was! This is the first time I’ve read anything by this author, and the length put me off just a bit, but boy am I glad I dove in!
This is about Lukas and Chris at the core, but it is so much more. Lukas (and his brother, Griffin) are werewolves who are following names on a list in an effort to save the next victim before whatever is killing them succeeds. They don’t know much, other than the victims smell a little like their pack, yet they don’t at the same time. Chris is the first guy from their list of towns they come across. Once Chris’ bff, Albert, becomes involved, the foursome head to the next town to see if they can find the next victim and try to make some connections and get some answers.
At the next town, they come upon twins, Jules and Tad (aka Silent Tad), who both realize they are different but immediately know they are the same as Chris. Trying to stay ahead of the killer, they all make their way back to Hunter’s Rock to find more answers.
One of my favorite things about this story was the group dynamic. As their adventure continues, they all grow closer and become their own pack, and as Tad continuously reminds everyone, they are all in together. There is really so much to love about these characters – Lukas and Griffin and their protective growly and sometimes teasing natures, Albert and his humor and quick wit, Chris with his sweet shyness, and eventually, their friend Roger, who joins them later on, who is known for teasing, yet is protective and loyal.
There is a lot going on here as clues are found and the story unfolds. What is happening to Chris, Jules and Tad goes back to their parents and an even bigger cover up that is both interesting and unique. I found the circumstances which resulted in the current issues to be extremely refreshing and new. And, while this is all going on, there is the budding relationship and feelings growing between Lukas and Chris that felt natural and meant to be. Not so much in a fated mates kind of way, but in a more realistic and believable way.
So, even though this was a long story, it never felt dragged out, and I was engaged and turning pages until the end. I was fully invested in the characters and can’t wait to see where this story is heading next. Highly recommend.
I received a copy of this book from Shelley in return for an honest review.
I'd give this an *almost* 4 stars overall. There were loads of things to really like about the book. Its a fun, paranormal romance story with a cool villain and a very lovable group of characters. Albert is the highlight of the book for me and I loved his interactions with both Chris and Griffin - I hope that he gets his own book.
When Chris and Lukas meet there are serious sparks and the chemistry between them is great the whole way through the story. I did find Chris a little whine-y though. Particularly initially - he asked a lot of repetitive questions until Lukas reveals he's a werewolf. There was a section early on in the story where Lukas and his brother Griffin were angsting over whether to tell Chris about the werewolf thing which was a bit drawn out, and I didn't quite get a handle on whether Chris's mum didn't like him dating full stop or had a problem with him being gay... she disappeared for the majority of the story which felt a bit *off* but perhaps we'll find out more about her later in the series! Once Chris, Lukas, Griffin and Albert leave Hunters Rock to find the other kid(s) who might be in danger from whoever is running round killing teenage shifters, the action and story really get going. The plot zips along at a much happier pace and with loads of crazy situations that the group have to work their way through, peppered with fun dialogue between the teenagers in particular. I really liked the way that although the main story is totally wrapped up, the end of the first book clearly points towards whatever is going to happen next in the series and I am looking forward to reading the next book!
Overall a really fun book and definitely well worth a read if you a fan of MM/paranormal romance.
This is my first read by this author and I must say just WOW. This story suck you in and I was having tough time putting down until finish. The characters all have unique things about them but when you bring them all together they fit perfect like pack. The story is about Lyxr and the consequences of something that happen over 21 years ago. When Lukas receive a note on his car with 4 location and the journey begins with why the ones he keeps finding smell like pack. We meet Chris and his best friend Albert who can make any situation become better with his positive attitude. Lukas and Griffin brothers that meet again to face this new enemy or maybe not so new to them. Can they find out what is killing the teenager and what is the connection to Hunter Rock? Love the twist and turns in this story, when you think going to go one way then it changes course. Of course, the way that Albert and Griffin spar with each other is hilarious. I do hope we see more for Hunter Rock Series. Did leave with some question at the end of what will happen now. Hopefully something with Albert and Griffin. Can’t wait to hear more from the gang Lukas, Chris, Albert, Griffin, Jules, Tad and Roger. If you happen to love MM paranormal with some twist involve then you will love this book. Highly Recommend
I got this weird hankering for shifter romance out of nowhere, and ended up giving this try. A positive surprise, all in all.
- The writing is pretty good for the genre. Not a literary master piece, but also not aiming to be one. - The characters felt like actual individuals instead of caricatures. - The plot was developed, if not polished. - The romance ended up being the subplot to the actual mystery at the heart of the story. - While this was insta-lovey, the book also managed to be pretty slow burn on the sexy times front, which I appreciate. - By the end, the conflict started to crumble a little and the ending felt a little lacking. - The cliffhanger in the epilogue felt pretty unnecessary, especially considering the second book is yet to be released after almost two years (which is too long for genre fiction)
In summary, this book ticked all the boxes for what I was looking for when I bought it on my Kindle: fast pacing, plot driven, sexual tension, pack dynamics, quick escapism.
Lukas is on a manhunt or perhaps wolfhunt. Someone is killing off young werewolves. Lukas gets a note stuck to his car with the list of towns with victim names. He's hoping to stop the next death. But when he smells the potential victim, his focus isn't just to protect the young man but to have him.
Chris is shocked when he finds out that he is on a kill list. But instead of telling anyone including the police, he decides to trust Lukas and his brother Griffin. But there's a lot more going on with him and his body is experiences changes he can't explain. Lukas is the only one who can calm and control Chris.
The story started a little slow but did pick up once Lukas, Chris, Griffin and Albert head out of town to find the other potential teenage victims. The characters are engaging and the story turns into a fun and sometimes crazy adventure to solve a mystery.
Overall, I enjoyed this one and happy to recommend it.
I'm going to give this middle of the road rating. I started this book back in May, after reading for a good day and noticing I was only at 34% and nowhere near any resolution, I gave up. (I think I also started this book looking for some heat). I finally decided to pick it up again and try to finish. Unfortunately I skimmed through the remainder. I'm sure it's my fault for leaving such a huge lag between starting and ending, but I could not get back into it again. I didn't feel any connection between the 2 MCs, feeling surprised when they declared their love for each other. This is a great ensemble story, I liked this group of friends. Interesting premise for a shifter story. Just not the kind of story I was looking for when I started.
Gay Lead Character ☑️ Straight Awesome Best Friend ☑️ Sexy Gay Shifter ☑️☑️☑️☑️☑️ Likable supporting characters☑️ Unbelievable bad guy ☑️ Questionable morales on human side☑️ Unique spin on a shifter story ☑️ Mystery, adventure, a bit of horror☑️
This was such a fantastic shifter story with a little bit of romance, lots of adventure and action, and a fantastic new spin on an shifter story plot. This will definitely be one of the stories I share with my kids once they've reached those late teens. Fantastic read!
This book is about a young college student who finds out that he's a werewolf do to some shady experiment done on his father when he was still in High school .
I really enjoyed this book I liked the two werewolf brother's but my favorite character was Albert and Griffin you should have let Albert change and become a werewolf too . Also can't wait for the relationship between Griffin and Albert to really neat up in my opinion their relationship was more interesting than the main couple can't wait until the second book is here .
