This novel deals with the attempts of the son of (fictional) Chola king Parthiban, Vikraman, to attain independence from the Pallavaruler, Narasimhavarman.
I was disappointed when this book reveals Naganandhi, but not about Sivagami except in passing. Wish Sivagami character is developed a little to know what happens to her.
The author maybe right. With the fame of Mamallar, the fame of other people is suppressed totally. Even though the title is Parthiban Kanavu, doesn't talk as much about the personality of Parthiban or Vikraman, as Mamallar's famous personality.
The ending was dramatic fit for a movie. There is a movie. Need to see again to see how much movie differs from the book.
This story is nowhere to be compared near Ponniyin Selvan from Kalki. But much shorter than Ponniyin selvan. I prefer Vikraman and Parthiban could have been given more space and role.
The book moves very mysterious and very suspense. The saint character was awesome at the end on seeing his original face it was like I'm really seeing him with eyes.

Solid Climax. Good flow. Kalki constantly proves why he is one of the bests when it comes to creative endings. Courtroom scene at the epilogue is clean storytelling.
