The Distance Between Us

Addiction ~ NOUN
The fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance or activity.

I’m a strong woman.
Or at least, I think I am. I used to be so sure about that.
I trained everyday, making sure I could take down anyone that I needed to. Mixed martial arts, kickboxing, self-defense, karate. You name it, I’ve done it.
I prided myself on being not only physically strong but mentally too. I knew mind games, I knew how to put on a front.
I may be small in size but I like to think of myself as a pocket rocket.
Quick thinking, fast reflexes.
When I was younger, I was known as the delicate little flower, the person people needed to protect, to not let get hurt.
I hated it.
I didn’t want someone who was paid to protect me, I wanted to be able to do that shit myself and that started with leaving home at eighteen with only a couple of hundred bucks and a bag full of clothes on my back to get away from my father.
But I never expected to meet him along the way.
The person whose eyes were full of sadness and heartbreak. The person who turned my world upside down and my heart inside out.
The problem? He only wanted someone to warm his bed at night, and that was okay for a while. Until I wanted more.
Competing with someone who didn’t exist anymore was impossible, and that’s exactly what I was doing when it came to him.
There was a time when I thought I could pull him out of the darkness but now I know that won’t happen, not while I’m slipping into that darkness myself and especially not while I’m in a love affair with those pretty little pills.
They gave me relief, calmed my body and soul, all the while destroying everything that I worked to become and all that I am.
Now? Now it’s just me and them.

All the feels with this one...this is such a gut clinching story of loss, addiction, and second chances. Kitty and Charlie's story isn't an easy road traveled...it's the long road home when you are weighed down and the relief you feel when the end is in sight with all the twists and turns in between! I laughed and cried. I felt all the pain, loss, struggle, angst, compassion, and love this book had to offer. This author has, as usual left me craving more...I need to know about everyone! All the people! I am invested! I can't wait to read what comes next.

I received this for an honest review!!!

WOW I just fell in love with Kitty and Charlie!! This book was such a great read from beginning to end.. This is one of those books where you feel every emotion that these characters feel!!!

Not many books give you all the feels like this one did..

What I loved about this book is that it was not your typical love story...

Rollercoaster of feels.

This one was the rollercoaster of emotions. Butterfly floating around your stomach waiting to see if it would zig or zag. Real life issues attack another member of the inner circle with some no freaking way moments entwined in the chaos. I was really hopping to get an update on Ava’s roommate but sadly nothing mentioned. Maybe next book...

The Distance Between Us is Book Three in the Mac Security series.
We previously met strong, sassy, quirky Kitty in the other books in the series. And Charlie has made a few small appearances along the way.
Neither of these characters are what I had imagined from reading about them in previous books.
If you are looking for your typical love story, boy meets girl, girl swoons, they get married, the end, you are in the wrong place. It’s a long rough road to a HEA for these characters. There are complexities in Kitty and Charlie that had me wanting more from every single chapter.
A woman who while strong and independent just wants to be loved the way she deserves by a guy who is so broken inside that he believes he isn’t capable of love again.
I adored Kitty and her quirky character and Abi done her story justice. I was enthralled from page one.
But Charlie………. He slayed me. He wormed his way into my heart and had me feeling real emotions for a fictional character. He struggled on a day to day basis with how he thought he should and shouldn’t feel.
Abi brought two flawed characters together, she broke them further, and she glued them back together.
This author puts every single emotion into each word she writes. I am already anticipating Evan’s story.

This is the 3rd book in the series. Kay is an important member of the security team. They are her friends but also family. Kay would do anything for them but she also has a secret.
Kay and Charlie have an item but not for a long time. Charlie can't commit but because Kay loves him she has accepted being his booty call. They shared so much but this one secret.
Will this secret tear them apart? Will the secret hurt the team? Hurt Kay?
Aside from the simmering love story of Kay and Charlie this is a story of secrets and lies and a struggle so real.
I love this book not only for chemistry and love but for Kay's struggles.
It is a must read.

This is the third book in the Mac Security series and what a book it is! It follows Kitty, a strong, independent woman who can do anything and everything for herself. She has control of everything in her life... all except Charlie, the stubborn, sexy, cop that won't take anything past casual sex because he's stuck in a past life that he can't move on from. We watch as they battle feelings and outer interference until the tension is palpable.

This book has it all. Action, swoony moments, hard content, HOTsex and a real look into the subject of addiction. It had me on the edge of my seat and I didn't want to put it down. Kitty is badass!!

I loved being back with the gang and I can't WAIT for Evan's book... he's still my favourite ;)

Can Kitty and Charlie close the distance between them…….

This is Book 3 in The Mac Security Series and I do think every book just keeps getting better. This book is consuming on such a high level and at no stage will you feel it boring or predictive. Kitty and Charlie’s story has been one that we have seen glimpses of throughout the series but the actual story you will not see coming……

Kitty is a member of the Mac Security team. She’s a brave, strong independent woman who lives for her job and is loyal to her work colleagues. Kitty has always kept her feelings for Charlie close to her heart never allowing the hard exterior to slip but how long can that last for anyone. When Kitty goes undercover to do a job she ends up getting shot and this is when we see Kitty really struggle, she has been taking pills to get her through the day before her injury and now we see the addict within struggle to hide her addiction from the people she loves.

Charlie is a Ty’s brother (Kitty’s Boss). He met Kitty before she even started working at the compound and they have had this “relationship” where they use each other to satisfy each others needs and don’t talk about again but this is going on ages. Charlie’s wife died and he has never really dealt with that issue and this book shows Charlie’s POV on his wife’s death and his true feelings for Kitty.

This book will draw you in at the first sentence and leave you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. It has addressed the subject of addiction and not only from the addicts POV but the man she loves. We see the daily struggles that Kitty has to endure and her lowest breaking point but can Charlie to her back together or is he too broken himself.

We read a true romantic side to this book also, two people who truely love each other and who are made for each other in more ways than they even can imagine. I felt reading it that all I wanted Kitty to do was talk to Charlie and tell him how she really felt but shes a stubborn woman and kept me hanging. We see more of the other members of the Mac Security team and get to know them a little better too.

This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotion. It left me loving this series more than I thought possible and admiring the strength and courage that Charlie and Kitty show.

I give this book a well deserving 5+ stars I absolutely love it……

Kitty and Charlie will break your heart. In this fantastic story written by the goddess Abigail Davies, we get a tale of addiction and grief. Kitty has had a rough time of it but she's strong and feisty and she's been in love with Charlie for years but he just doesn't let her in. Charlie is a good man with a tragic past and fights what he feels for Kitty because he's afraid to let the past go. As they finally start to connect Kitty is dragged down into a hellish spiral of addiction and even though things are going right, she's not. Miss Davies paints a beautifully haunting tale of grief and addiction and the struggle that it takes to get through them. Bringing beautifully real people to the page is Abigail's specialty and she manages once again to hold me captive with a beautifully written heart destroying book. Don't worry she's also great at putting you back together so don't be afraid!! This book will change you, just like all of her books. She's a master at making you feel and understand the heartache and despair but always bringing you back to center.

This is the technically the third in the MAC Security but there is a #2.5 spinoff that takes place before this book. The three previous books are, Fractured Lies, Exposed and Flying Free. The first two are a duet but Flying Free is standalone. Grab a box of tissues and get ready for a marathon of beautifully heartbreaking stories.

This series by Abigail Davies keeps getting better and better. OMG, The Distance Between Us takes the reader on one hell of an emotional roller coaster ride. Kitty and Charlie’s journey is incredible to witness. Their stories both individually and as a couple will break your heart and also warm your heart. It is one not to be missed!

I love Kitty. She possesses strength, determination and independence like no other woman. Her ‘family’ at MAC Security are very important to her and there is a reason for that. I loved learning more about her childhood and the reasons why she left Canada for America.

We already know Charlie as Ty’s brother and as the law enforcing Sarge. However, there is so much more to this man than I could ever have imagined. My feelings for him changed as this story unfolded and, in the end, I willingly handed my heart over to this incredible man.

It was hard to put my Kindle down when real life needed me. Kitty and Charlie’s story had me hooked from the very first page. Their courage and strength throughout the narrative is admirable. I absolutely loved being back with all at MAC Security and cannot wait to dive straight into the next book in the series which is Evan’s story. I highly recommend this series to you to read.

I award The Distance Between Us 5 stars.

Kitty is a kick ass member of Mac Security Team who left a past of wealth and privilege to pursue the course she wanted her life to take. Charlie is the brother of Ty, her boss, and they had a sexual relationship before she even started working for Ty which Charlie uses primarily to satisfy his needs however Kitty’s feelings run much deeper. Charlie has never recovered from the death of his wife and unborn child and feels guilty every time they have sex and will not allow any deeper feelings to develop for anyone as he could not handle the pain of losing someone else. While undercover Kitty gets shot and she struggles with the pain and ultimately ends up addicted to pain killers. This story flashes back to Charlie’s history with his wife and your heart breaks for both what Charlie went through and the guilt he feels by starting to move on and Kitty’s distress that she will be never be anything more than sex to Charlie and her struggles to accept that for someone who worked so hard to be strong her greatest weakness is pills. The emotions that this book draws from you will not leave you untouched and I love the family unit of Mac Security. If I could give this more than five stars I would. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Kitty used to be the person that needed protecting, but she learnt to protect herself with what happened in her past, she learnt to let others thing that everything is ok with her.
Kitty gets shot while undercover which leads to her addiction to pain meds. While Kitty believe Charlie just wants her for a casual hook up, Kitty wants more. You learn about their pasts throughout the story and how it’s affecting their futures.
Kitty and Charlie battle with their demons, only when Charlie nearly loses Kitty does he realise that he can have a future with her and not forget his wife, Kitty struggles to talk to Charlie about how she feels, while battling her addiction. Charlie battles with his own demons while helping Charlie with hers so they can find their own happiness, when the battle is over.

This book! This author! I'm just so in love with both!! Kitty and Charlie stole my heart in ways I never imagined. I didn't expect Charlie to be so romantic and closed off at the same time but it totally worked for him. And Kitty is just a purple haired goddess! The way the boys and Kay were all incorporated in the book was perfect! Kitty really teaches some lessons while, on the other spectrum, so does Charlie. You can overcome anything as long as you don't give up and you have that one strong person standing next to you, behind you, in front of you. The messages behind this book, that I perceived, is amazing!! The ending is perfect, just as it always is! I can't wait for more, that's for sure!!!

Book 3 of the Mac series and things are just getting better and better.

This book follows Kitty and Charlie and boy these two are in for a ride. My emotions while reading this were all over the place. I wanted to shake them, hug them, yell at them and make everything better. These two characters really got under my skin, I totally connected with them and it was hard to see them go through so much. They are both strong individuals who were shaken by experiences leaving them a bit broken and vulnerable something they didn't like about themselves. They had to fight their demons to be together and while it was painful to read it was also beautiful in it's brokenness.

If you haven't read books 1 & 2 what are you doing, grab then and binge read all three and then moan about the wait for book 4 like me haha.

Wow this is Kitty and Charlie raw and uncensored. Saying this book is emotional doesn't do it any justice. These two each have so much stuff from their past to weed thru. Charlie and his pain are companions, he hasn't let go and doesn't seem that letting go is even in his future. Kitty has dealt with blows from those closest to her that were supposed to love and support her but they send away the only person who ever cared. Then life happens, while it may open Charlie's eyes or at least light a spark but it may destroy Kitty.

This is raw and gritty and yes sexy and passionate. This is about taking all those pains and dealing with them and taking steps towards healing and receiving love. It is emotional. And with friends and love, action and suspense we get to enjoy it completely. Awesome!

You get a book recommendation of get it now it's free on amazon so you get the book devour it read book two too quickly because you can't put it down then you come to book three where the main characters change and you think it's OK if I don't love them as much because the first two were so awesome but then you read book three and the characters become your absolute favourite (at least until book four is written) - well that's where I'm at with this book and series.

I'm not sure what words to use to describe how much I enjoyed this series but it was amazing now I'm reading the spin off book which is promising to be just as gripping.

Love this series!

This series goes from strength to strength. Love how the author draws you in, making the characters so, that you connect with them.
Kitty is one bad*ss, strong, independent woman who has worked hard to be part of this team. They are super protective of their own and when one gets hurt, they all bleed.
This is a breathtakingly beautiful story of love, loss, and a second chance at living life to the full, but with both people carrying their own darkness, can the light outshine it all?
I am not going to lie, this one had me all kinds of twisted up. My heart literally breaking for both Kitty and Charlie. I am not sure how I got to the end!!

This series just goes from strength to strength. I have loved all three books so far, and I can't wait for the forth. Kitty and Charlie are a match made in heaven. They both have a past that they want to escape from, and don't know how to move on from, but when they finally open up to one another their relationship takes a turn for the better. Kitty has her demons to overcome and Charlie and the MAC team come together. This book is full of twists with drug cartel, shootings, abuse, addiction...it has it all. I now need patience to at for the release of book 4.

This the third book the series and it was another emotional rollercoaster of a read.

This one follows Kitty who we meet in the previous two books. Kitty is fiercely independent woman and has everything in her life under control, that is until Charlie... however there is something about Charlie is can't seem to shake. Both Kitty and Charlie have had a troubled past and issues deal with. These were two characters that you were routing for hoping for that HEA but we they get it. I was quickly sucked into the story from the beginning. This book had everything there is drama and lots of emotion. I found myself reaching for tissues at a few parts. This was a great book in the series and I can't wait for the next one.

This book is all about Charlie and Kitty. Each carrying so much baggage that it took a shooting and an addiction for them to shed the past and find the other piece of their soul. I like how the author weaves another story that is intertwined with the love story. Taking down a drug cartel and going undercover keeps you enthralled. It's not just another love story.

The Distance Between us by Abigail Davies
Kitty comes across as a strong independent woman. Her character shows she has an addictive personality right from the start. If we take into consideration that she becomes obsessed with what she does, whether training, exercising etc. When she meets Charlie she cannot let go of him either, even knowing that she is just his booty call. Charlie is a character that has his own demons and he has to come to terms with them before he see Kitty for what she really is. These two characters were complex but you were rooting for them to work it out. The story has a lot of story, as this is not just a romance between the two main characters. Secondary characters come into play and will leave you wanting their own stories. At the beginning I found the book a tad slow, however once the foundation of the plot was laid, it seemed to speed up with so much going on and it kept me very entertained. The story covered many difficult situations and I thought that the author really did well with pulling your emotions all over the place. Grab a box of tissues, you are going to need them. Overall I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading more from this author.
