Like many of us on this planet, Carmen Caine/Madison Adler is from another world. She spends every moment she can scribbling stories on sticky notes that her kids find posted all over the car, house, and barn.

When she is not working as a software engineer, she is busy ferrying her kids to various appointments, writing lyrics for her husband's songs, taking care of the dog Tigger and his heart condition, attempting to tame her three insane cats, scratching her three Nigerian Dwarf Goats behind the horns or coddling her flock of thirty bizarre chickens from around the world.

Cassidy Edwards has been asked to investigate a prison break in the Nether Reaches. Whoever has accomplished this break has managed to create new doors that only Cassidy has a reputation for. Oddly enough no one believes she is responsible but they want her assistance in apprehending the culprit and finding out they managed to do it.

As Cassidy unvails the clues to the puzzle everyone quickly realizes that the prisoners who were released were The Fallen Ones and they want payment of debt that her father made. If they cannot get the payment from him, they will go after her. There is a suspicion that the Templars are responsible for the new doors but if so, how did they do it. However, before long Cassidy is on the bounty list of every hunter out there and it is critical that she stays away from her father, Emilio.

There is plenty of action, intrigue and tense situations. Cassidy truly isn't sure who is to trust and neither does the reader. There are plenty of secrets to be revealed here and some are doozies! Yet, if I am to be honest, this read was my least favorite in the series. I just didn't feel satisfied that Cassidy obtained the revenge she set out for. Even the cliffhanger wasn't very exciting. However, I will be going on to read the next book in the series.

This one just about broke my heart. There are things that happen in here that just make me want to cry. Cassidy gets an idea in her head that what she is doing is for the betterment of all....with a bit of revenge added in. But what if it isn’t? What if it backfires? Or what if it works out but the ending is not what she desired? Yeah all of these questions and more are running through my head while listening. Along with No, No, No! And Please work, Please work!

Anyway I just want to give mention to all of the amazing characters in here. Not just the main ones. They all have fun little quirks that make them more real. So Heath gets the spotlight in this review. He is a wolf shifter. I love his surfer boy, laid back vibe. He loves to practice imaginary golf swings while waiting and he can dress someone to the nines! Plus he is always happy and willing. Great secondary character

I listened to this on audio and Lynn Devereux ROCKS! Her voices are spot on! She is able to speak and pronounce at least French, Italian and Highlander not counting English. Mostly I struggle with those in my head while reading silently. She keeps impressing me with every book I listen to.

There are so many twists and turns in this series. Emilio has his fingers in every pot you can think of. This is making it especially difficult for Cassidy to find allies. Cassidy has stolen something from Emilio that he wants back very badly. She doesn't realize just how important it is until little Ricky helps her uncover the secret. I love Ricky, I think his ineptness at the beginning of the series was definitely a ruse. He is very shrewed and a lot of Cassidy's successes/new skills are due to him. Cassidy experiences more loss in this book and it hardens and refocused her on revenge against Emilio.

Cassidy learns about the latchling and the witches who are trying to spell Lucian. However, Cassidy and Lucian FINALLY consumate their relationship and this is a trigger for him to resist Emilio's plan to control him.

In the end, Cassidy frees him but at great cost to herself. As I get ready to read the next book, I have to wonder how deep she will have to go into Emilio's world?

Refreshingly different...

I have enjoyed this series from the beginning. Canine has built a supernatural world with a refreshing new spin, or at least it has been from my perspective. I think that is why I like it so much. In Rebel, Cassidy and Lucian take things to the next level but they soon get caught up in Emilio's dastardly plans. They find that nothing is as it seems as secrets, spells, and evil plots are uncovered. This is not a stand-alone book and should be read in order from the very beginning.

Unfortunately, I found book 4 mediocre at best. Lots of self rambling dialogue that didn't need to be. The story also seemed to be missing action even though some action was present. Lots of unanswered plot questions remain. Lucian, strong sexy Lucian, was at best a love sick fool who had a lot less air time than prior books. I'm not sure that I'll continue with the series. The story also ends on a cliffhanger.

I wasn’t a fan of this book. I’ve enjoyed the series greatly up to this point, but this book was lacking. Where did Heath and the wolves go? Where’s the overprotective fire drake? How are they not noticing the memory differences? I feel like the plot has derailed. Events aren’t making sense. I’ve purchased the next two books, but am not sure I will read them. Sad as this series had a ton of potential!

Ahhh.. you just can't help feeling sorry for our girl. There always seems to be something happening and not in a good way for her. Just when things are heating up between her and a certain somebody, she discover a secret about him that will throw you (and her) for a loop. The ending has you screaming NOOOO and you see just how selfless she really can be. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Edge of my seat

While this is not a long book, it kept me riveted to the pages. The ending was crushing. That sort of sacrifice, I felt her pain. I am so glad I was behind in this series so I can get right to the next book, I cant believe it would be over, not with that sort of raw passion, it has to have a HEA.

Great plot writing again!

Loved the twists and turns and new characters in this one. A frenetic pace but it still managed to be cohesive. I am hoping the next installment will feature more Terzi and netherworld development!

before I give it a proper feedback, I would like to listen to it on audio. I hit and miss when I read since I don't get back to a book right away. The series is fantastic, so I recommend this one two but I still can't wait for it to come out on audio.

Yummy

I like the style, love the characters, big mix of characters with possible continued storylines. Can't wait to get to the next book in the series. Forget housework, forget laundry, who needs food cooked, dishes washed? Early to bed, early to rise? Not I.

Wow. I’m serious. This series just keeps getting better and better. I’m team Lucien all the way, even though he can be a major blip. I’m still loving Cassidy’s character. That ending left me crying. I need more!!!

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Yes, it's deserving more than the barest 5 star rating.
It's an intriguing and an intricately woven story, that you keep wondering when the next surprise springs from.
I will warn, tissues may be needed!!! Keep them handy!

Another amazing Cassidy Edwards story.

I love this series so much. There is a badass main character who is also kind of an idiot when it comes to the charmed world, which is fun because it helps explain how the world works without going into history lessons that can be boring.

Lucian is a fabulous character, there was a bit less of him in this book than the others but there is still quite a bit.

There are some exciting twists that I did not see coming, but it also starts to tie up some of the questions that were left from the other books in the series.

I'm so excited for the next one.

I am curious to see how Lucian reacts after this. Love the characters and hope they continue to force Me. Caine to tell their stories.

It took a little bit to get into this book as it had been awhile since I read the last 3, but after I went back and did a little refresher, it was just as good as the others.

I must admit that while reading the first book, I was not sure about the direction of the series. However, I keep reading the series and I enjoy them.

I’m so happy I have the next book. What a storyline! This has got to be one of the best series I’ve listened to in such a long time. Great characters, brilliant performance and great humour.

Cassidy Edwards incredible adventure continues in Rebel

I am so in love with this series.

Cassidy is our leading lady, our Heroine. She is the epitome of bad ass, with her snarky attitude and bravery, what's not to love? She has what feels like the weight of the world on her shoulders, but it is so clear she thinks about anyone besides her self, especially in this installment!

Lucian is our equally bad ass Warlock hero. I would have loved more of him in this story and more Cassidy and Lucian moments, but I understood how this book needed to be lain out and how it needed to operate.

Prepare to fear the dark grip of loneliness and sacrifice as Cassidy shows us once again that she's selfless, and quite willing to let you know when you've crossed her. I am so eager for the next book!

I absolutely love this series, and I'd say this is my favorite of the Cassidy books so far!

If you haven't read Latchling Blood Moon (Dorian and Elizabeth's story and the history behind the Rowle curse) or Highlander Blood Moon (Dorian becoming a vampire and an introduction to Raven, another badass heroine), I would highly suggest you read them before this one, you won't be disappointed. You can definitely go from Mindbreaker to Rebel without reading them as there is enough explained to get by, but they are such great stories and they let you delve so much deeper into the back story that they are absolutely worth reading first!

Rebel picks up right where Mindbreaker leaves off (with Cassidy waking up after having crawled in to bed with Lucian the night before) and has lots of fast-paced, fun twists and turns along the way ending with Lucian finally coming into his full powers, but at what cost to Cassidy and their relationship? Another gut-wrenching cliff hanger, although Ms. Caine has promised us that the story has a good ending right?!

I'd say this is an awesome quick read, I really love this story and it's characters, and I can't wait for it to continue!

Everything I wanted and more.

I LOVED this book. This is exactly where I wanted Cassidy to go. Usually around the third or fourth book in a series I get bored, the characters start to change, or the story starts to drag. But in Rebel, I was completely blown away.

Cassidy suffers a loss. This loss shapes the story in a drastic way, I won't spoil anything, but I think it was a natural, organic way to further the plot. It fit very well with the previous books and enabled another subplot. And I loved the way Cassidy dealt with it. It seemed very natural, almost humanistic the way she denied things and compartmentalized.

The only reason I gave this story a four star rating was the romance between Cassidy and Lucien. I felt that it was kind of forced, and him calling her pet names was completely out of character for me. I really don't see Lucien calling her "sweetheart" every other sentence, and his protectiveness and tenderness seemed very strange to me. But the romance actually took kind of a back seat to the story, which I definitely agreed with.

Overall, solid 4.5 stars from me!!
