Lots of fun

As long as you can ignore the rampant slur and banter going on between the fighters when on edge. I just can, although it does annoy me at points.

Anytime I just want to read an good fighting book, I pickup one of the books in this series. Rade Galaal and his Argonauts are always, always fighting something. Now ex-military forming a Universal Unlimited Security Company, they can be hired out to help with whatever is needed. They are not mercenaries, according to Rade, but security consultants. Right now, they are employed on a continuing basis by a Green Phant which happens to inhabit an Artificial construct called Emily Bounty. The Phant takes over the cybernetic artificial and then communicates to the Argonauts through it. This is a cooperative effort in that the Artifact has to agree to the “possession”, something most normal humans would never agree to, that and the fact that a human in physical contact with a Phant gets incinerated.

Anyway, a Green Phant called Surus is their current employer and has been for awhile. It has agreed that Rade is in charge of the company and that he can make all decisions as to what missions they go on. He’s also free to find other customers who might need his companies services and that is something that just happened. A diplomat from the Kenyan Consulate in Talan has just contacted Rade and requested he provide security and transportation to a Kenyan colony out near the outskirts of known space. The name of the outpost is Kitale and it has lost communications with the Kenyan government for quite some time. Mr. Batindo needs to go there and find out why. He doesn’t suspect anything serious, just a comm problem or it could even be a local uprising. Either way, he agrees to Rade’s price and they start their journey.

In the meantime, Rade has to explain to Surus why they won’t be continuing on towards their intended meeting with another Green Phant, but Surus hasn’t much choice and agrees with the detour. Hopefully, this side mission won’t take that much time, will provide the Argonauts some additional money for operating expenses and give them something to do instead of just flying around in their starship, the Argonaut. In fact, this seems like a milk run and should be quite enjoyable even if they don’t get to kill anything.

But, the Argonauts aren’t that lucky. Something is definitely going on at Kitale. It sits right next to a slipstream with out a gate. Now there are alien species that are capable of going through slipstreams with the use of a gate, but there’s no reason to assume something like that has happened, so far. But as soon as they land on Kitale, Surus alerts Rade to the fact that it feels the presents of another Phant, and not a friendly feeling. So, what should have been a milk-run turns into a fight for their lives. Not only is there an active Phant on this outpost, but he has aliens allies. The Argonauts are going bug killing again. It sure would have been better if they had ben better prepared.

These are fun books. There’s a lot of crude banter between the members of the Argonauts, more than I think there should be and some which I’m surprised is said in the presence of a female. Yet, Shaw, Rade's companion, is one tough female and she can dish it out just as well as the men although she rarely gets involved in this banter. Still, I you don’t feel comfortable with some salty language, you might find these books offensive. But, that’s why they are so good and just keep the story going. It’s amazing that none of the Argonauts have been killed up to this point.

The next book, “City of Phants” is already in print on one my Kindle. I’ll be reading it very soon.

The story itself is the same quality as the previous books in this series, but I found the foul language to be more than I can imagine any military group would use... and I can imagine quite a bit. I found the language to be gratuitous filler. It did not further the story and it made be rethink even finishing the book. I will try the next book in the series to see if the author settles down, but if it continues to be excessive, I'm going to drop this series.

Isaac Hooke never lets you down.

This saga of the Argonauts is as captivating as the prior books. Maybe more so because I'm invested in the characters now. I'm actually putting other book series on holds to continue to the next Argonaut book.

More hostile aliens.

A great military sci-fi action series and this novel is a great addition to the series.
Aliens good and bad. Battles in space and on the ground. Action packed with realistic situations and lots of fun.
I look forward to more from this author.

Great trilogy

The books in this series are really good.
I enjoyed the new aliens and I wonder if we will see those bugs in future tails. I would like to see more character development with the others on the team.
It seemed like there was more graphic language in this one.

Spider aliens! Love it. Creepy little bugs go squish! Rade and his team do an excellent job and find another Phant. Great story. Fun little quirk at the end. Can't wait to see what happens next!.

"Bugs, bugs, bugity bugs"
Another real treat for all science fiction action junkies. Rade and his crew take o simple accompaniment of a representative of the Kenyan government t one of their colonies to find out why communication has stopped. An easy, well paid job to alleviate the boredom offline nothing much for several months. Well, it was supposed to be easy - but when are they ever?

The fourth standalone book in this exciting series by the excellent Mr.Hooke. Not recommended for arachnophobes, but for everyone else.

(Bugs partying-shadow in background) Oh no!!! Its Rade!

Here it is one or two days after your birfday and I have already finished the stinkin book. Don't mean the book stank, aww you know what I mean. More bugs and more of Bender's refusal to embrace his feminine side. ROFLMAO!! blows a kiss to Bender. Thanks again Isaac.

this one was actually an improvement over the previous two and reset my interest in the series. If this turned out as bad as the ones before I would have given up on these free audible listens

Rade Galaal and his faithful crew are back in the conclusion of the Argonauts Quatrology( and here I thought it was a trilogy). Hooke’s writing is again, a little more adult in nature with the soldierly banter, but everything that made you love his writing before is present in this new adventure. I look forward to reading more about Rade Galall and his faithful crew in a future work.

I didn't just like this bookmark- I loved it!!!! I've always wondered about quantum effects and how to do battle in that environment- well, I finally got my itch scratched!!! I'm not there completely- but. Ow I have a framework to use to think about it... seriously now, where does the imagination come from to put it to paper???? Simply amazing!!!

Read this a little faster than usual because I was on planes a lot during this period.

Enjoyed the premise and most of the combat. The final capture was a little anti climactic to me.

Interesting story though with lots of action. Already grabbed the next one in the series.

Fighting bugs(aliens) through just about the whole book. Love the action but would love to see Rade and the rest of the team when they're not at work. In some other settings. That would be great for development of the characters. Would also like to see Rade et al acquire some badass alien tech and then use it to kick ass. At this point I can't figure out why Rade hasn't learned to bring the Hoplites and Centurions with when going into an obviously suspicious situation. Enough of repeating the same mistake already.
