Desire is the raw material. Lust is the spark…and love will sculpt their destiny.

The Gray Court, Book 3

Akane Russo, one of the Hob’s top Blades, can’t wait for her current assignment to end. She’s been tasked with protecting Shane Dunne from the Malmayne clan’s scheme to kidnap him once again. But no one—not even her Seer half—warned her she’d have to protect herself from his heated gaze. Or that her dragon half would find him an irresistible puzzle.

Shane knew his destined bride would never come to him willingly, but she’s stuck with him and he plans to use her predicament to his advantage. It’s only a matter of time before she succumbs to what they both want. Their Claiming will be beautiful beyond even his wildest imaginings—and his wild, free dragoness will finally see herself as he sees her.

Then his unique, hybrid-borne visions reveal a new danger. The prophecy of the Child of Dunne can only be fulfilled down a path he must travel alone. To a place so dark and dangerous that even his truebond’s flame may not be bright enough to lead him home.

Warning: Contains explicit sex, graphic language, a pissed-off dragon assassin and a smart-mouthed Nebraskan farm boy. Bet you can figure out who wins that fight! (Hint: It’s not the dragon…)

Another reread July 2016.

I didn't think I'd reread this one because I was afraid that now, the heroine would get on my nerves. But, on reread I loved it just as much and surprisingly, I actually liked Akane a lot. Of course, I absolutely LOVE Shane.

I'm loving this series. It's like a world within a world and so masterly created.

In this instalment we see the mating of Akane (half dragon, half seer) and Shane (no one is really sure). We know he has powers though for the majority of his life he's been underestimated not realising he's the best connected and very well respected by those in power. With visions gifting him with information from the future he knows the world is on a precipice...new alliances are being formed, politics and greed are rife and some severely psychotic individuals are playing with a prophecy they have no business in.

I just CAN NOT wait until Robin's story or Oberon's who I trust will also get a story in this series.

I love anything to do with the magical and supernatural world of dragons, fae, vamps, Sidhe, Leprechauns and other creatures. In her series The Gray Court, Ms. Bell has come up with a world that has all of the elements to make me one happy camper. It has magic, good versus evil, love, mating, seers and prophecies and so much more.
I read the first book, Dare To Believe and loved it – it was a lighthearted introduction to the world Ms. Bell has created. I also read the second story, Noble Blood, which was a much darker epic but a great read none the less. The third book in this series is Artistic Vision and it is the story of Shane, the third of the Dunne siblings and a seer and artist and Akane Russo – a Blade, but more importantly, half Seer and half Dragon. This is a story that is a powerful combination of the first two books – it is light hearted in places and yet in others there is a darkness of impending doom and the knowledge that there is more evil yet to come.
The Dunne family is one interesting family – the children are all hybrids and have special abilities. Shane has already been kidnapped by the Malmayne clan once before, and to prevent this from happening again, Akane is tasked with protecting him. Akane is somewhat aloof not just because of what she does, and who she is, but because she fears connecting to anything. Staying with the Dunnes though she does connect to them and their family and friends and her gradual acceptance of everything/ her ‘downfall’ is interesting to watch. She also has this rather dry sense of humour and I love it when she calls Shane Jethro. It becomes almost an endearment and in some cases you can tell that when she uses the word Akane has become utterly frustrated and annoyed with Shane and that he had better watch out because the dragoness is on the warpath!
Shane has known for a long time that Akane is his mate, yet she refuses to even consider this possibility and he proceeds to drive her crazy – not just with lust, though there is that in spades, but because he grows on her slowly and also because he is frustrating and annoying, and yet oh so sexy and handsome – and when he touches her horns, oh my goodness – get ready with the ice as you will need to cool the temperature somehow!
The mating of the hybrid and his dragoness and the sex is unbelievable – it fits right in with the story and the mating is rather beautiful, even if it was the result of being poisoned with gold. Shane knows just how much rope to give Akane, but there are other things at play that could put a crimp in his plans to win her over and claim her completely. Akane is the one that definitely fits the saying methinks the lady doth protest too much – but it is oh so much fun watching her protest and realizing that as much as she is protesting, she has fallen under the spell of Shane and she just needs to be woman/dragoness enough to admit it! The verbal sparring between these two also adds another dimension to a story already full of twists and turns that keep you hanging on for dear life!
Shane is artistic and creative – those hands of his that create are something to behold, yet his art also reveals the future and some things that he has created are wonderfully beautiful and sensual and yet others are so dark and have an evil to them and also a sense of foreboding that even worse is yet to come and that doesn’t dissipate – it only increases as the story continues. Add to this his visions and you soon won’t know what is around the corner!
Shane is threatened by a black evil sludge that inhabits his body like some alien life form and it is up to Akane to save him, but can she save him? Are her efforts enough or will they lose Shane to the darkness inside of him? Akane is also afraid – will this fear keep her from mating with Shane and will she be the one who will actually help to kill rather than complete him? Add to this her being poisoned by gold and the rather evil and secretive machinations of the Malmaynes, who just won’t say uncle and give up and you have a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I just kept reading and reading. I loved the glimpses of the entire Dunne family and their bonds with each other and the bonds with their friends. When the end came I could have screamed – after all of that it was just getting started! No fair Ms. Bell – now I have to wait!!
This is a great story woven by a story teller who knows just how much to reveal and how much to hold back – there was plenty of gnashing the teeth when the teasers appeared. I don’t do well when I only get glimpses of something and Ms. Bell made sure that we would be left wanting more.
There is so much more to learn and that will be revealed and I cannot wait. I am so intrigued by Robin, The Hob – who/what is he really and when does he get his HEA? His yearning/love for Ruby is quite sad one the one hand and yet also reveals another side of the Hob that isn’t often revealed. Ruby and her friendship with him only serves to make him much more human and accessible. In fact, the entire Dunne family are not scared of the Hob as so many others are and I think that he is grateful for that, but it also serves to highlight the difference between the other characters and the Hob – he is as aloof as is Akane, but she doesn’t have the really dark, dangerous side that you can feel emanating from the Hob when those he loves and calls friend/family are threatened. Add to this Shane and his meddling with Cassie, who helped to save him from the black goop and whatever /whoever he saw in her future, and if anything the next book(s) will be just as great as the others in the series have been! Definitely keep them coming Ms. Bell! One great home run!

Shane is an artist and a Seer, Sidhe and Leprechaun, Akane is a hybrid Dragon. He has to be sneaky to win her heart and claim her as his mate, all while fighting the plots of others to ensnare him to fulfill a prophecy. Many laugh out loud moments, these two are good together, great read.

Heather's Notes
So I am really starting to like these stories. I liked Anaka and Shane. I like the way this story is going. I would have liked to see more of Shane being a kickass, but it was still a good story. Also I want to know what is in the puzzle box.

Has the prophecy been fulfilled?
Oh wow. This series is really grabbing my attention.
We have two very special main characters Akane and Shane in this book, surrounded by the love and craziness that is the Dunne family and protected by the wonderful character of the Hob, Robin.
We also get a new face, the healer Cassie, who seems to be going to play an important part in Oberon’s future.
I am keeping this review short as there is a lot that happens and I have no wish to spoil anything. I will say the hillbilly shenanigans of Shane courting his stubborn mate Akane kept a grin on my face. These two were very funny.
I have owned, read and reviewed these books years ago but my reviews are missing. Never a hardship to reread them and I am always surprised at how they draw me in. This is my fourth time reading this book but I wanted to refresh my memories as there are new books added to this series after a long gap.

First book in the series that I read and then went back to read them in order. I didnt get the full gist of her world until i went to read them in order, but still it was remarkably well written. She described characters to a T, and even though i was not a big fan of Akane, she presented her in such a way that it was impossible to hate her...

RATED A WHIPPED CREAM BEST BOOK!

Artistic Vision is Dana Marie Bell’s third visit to her Grey Court world, and is the best one so far.

Shane Dunne uses his visions to create magnificent art, and the most beautiful piece he’s ever done is of his mate, Akane Russo. Akane is one of Robin Goodfellow’s Blades, and assigned to guard and protect Shane from the treachery and plotting of the Malmayne clan. She isn’t anyone’s mate, no matter how gorgeous Shane is. Until danger surfaces and threatens to take Shane away forever-then Akane will do whatever it takes to save him and claim him.

As the Prophecy comes closer to being fulfilled, the danger around the Dunne and Blackthorn clans increases. When Shane is poisoned by someone he looked on as a friend, the only way to save him is something Akane is afraid may take him from her forever. She never wanted a mate, but now that they are together, no one is going to hurt him again. But which of the Malmayne clan is leading this latest round of treachery and betrayal? Can Akane dig deep enough to uncover the guilty party? Can she do what must be done to save the man she has come to love, in spite of her resolve?

I have been looking forward to Shane and Akane’s story for a while, and it did not disappoint. I love the depth Ms. Bell adds to each of her characters, and the many layers of this very magical and mystical realm, with the Black, White and Grey Courts. This is a thrill ride of a story, with passion and danger throughout, but there is a wonderfully wicked sense of humor here at work as well. The characters have such vivid personalities, I expected to look up and see them materialize in front of me.

Akane Russo is loyal, brave and determined to do her job: protect Shane Dunne even if does suffer from a delusion that she is his mate. Her seer half has flashes of insight, while her dragon half is determined to resist. As one of The Hob’s infamous Blades, she has no room in her life for romance, especially with someone as irritating and insufferable as Shane Dunne. I loved watching as her attitude went from bored irritation, to curiosity, admiration and finally love. I loved her determination to save Shane, once she accepted that he was her mate, and the fear that she could destroy him with the cure he needed.

Shane Dunne is a talented artist, creating masterpieces from the visions that rule his future. He is determined to claim Akane for his mate, but he also loves to tease and annoy her, just to see her passion erupt. He is keeping secrets, and knows what is coming, but he also knows he can’t change what has to happen. I loved the playful and silly banter Shane used with Akane, and his “aw shucks ma’am” farm boy persona he adopted just to get a rise from his mate.

There are several threats to the Dunne/Blackthorn clan, and Shane is at the center of more than one. The Malmayne clan, or at least the heads of the clan, have pledged allegiance to the Black Court, and have misinterpreted the Prophecy concerning “a child of Dunne”. These threads were brought together neatly, and the immediate danger has been averted.

The secondary characters play a large role in this story, with every family member being integral to stopping the evil from taking hold and creating chaos. But the main thread, the romance between two of the rarest of supernatural beings, true hybrids, is the centerpiece of this book. This is most definitely Shane and Akane’s book, and everything else takes a back seat to the passion and beauty of the union of these two fantastic characters.

I recommend this for those who like intrigue mixed with magic and passion, but I recommend you read the first two books in the series to get the richness of this world and all its inhabitants.

You can't argue with a hot fae/leprechaun hybrid who can see the future. And honestly, Akane doesn't put up too much of a fight. But why would she? I think that is Akane on the cover — she looks fierce!

Dana Marie Bell writes a hot story. As the third book it doesn't stand on its own, steeped in back story of Bell's world building. And there's a drawback of there being so much time between entries in a series, even having read and enjoyed the previous entries I was confused by the machinations of the three courts against each other.

My favorite book in the series was the first book, DARE TO BELIEVE. That was the hottest so far.

The character development left a lot to be desired and the plot is based on a prophecy which could be fulfilled by three generations; it's so open ended that it is hard to believe even the nuttiest perp would hatch a plot based on it. I also found it quite hard to follow.

Akane does have some physical features I could find handy: horns that act like a clitoris. what a shame!

Anyway, despite the minor drawbacks I enjoyed the book. Shane's uncompromising certainty in his destined mate and the heat of their relationship added to the story. I also liked Shane's artistic vision and how he used his seer abilities to fulfill it.

All in all this is was a fun novella that any one who has read the previous books in the series must read. I wouldn't start with this one, it's worth going back to the first one.

"The child of Dunne will one day perform an act that will change our world"

I would say that it is pretty obvious that the child in question is Shane Dunne and after reading this one I have to say I have new question: What does the Black Queen want with not just Shane but all the Dunne's? That was what I was left with at the end of this book but I am jumping ahead and I apologize but I just finished it so the end is very fresh in my mind.

Reading how Shane was trying to "woo" his mate was as very creative as his art work. Akane really just couldn't walk away from the puzzle that was her "Jethro" or her puzzle box. I never knew dragons were addicted to puzzles.

I have to say I was really surprised by one twist in the story that I didn't see coming and it wasn't the fact the that the Hob had a child as he probably has several but as I don't want to give that much of the book away, I will say I never expected one of the Hob's children to be a bad guy. And then of course Cecilia and Henri, I sure hope they aren't first cousin 'cause that has way to much icky eww to go a long way.

As I was reading I came across an inconsistency which is an anomaly in this book that I don't think I have seen in any of Dana Marie Bells books. Dana's attention to detail is phenomenal when it comes to the worlds she creates so I was actually surprised. So now to tease one of my favorite authors by asking (and yes I have to ask because I can't resist); when did Leo become the big brother? I thought Shane was the older brother and Leo the older brother? ;) Seriously though it does not take away from the story line in anyway, the characters are still compelling, sex scenes are smokin hot (no pun intended) between the Dragon, Akane and the Sidhe Lord/Leprechaun, Shane and the story line will leave eyes glued to the book much to your significant others consternation.

What Is It About:
Akane is part dragon shifter and part seer. If anyone can understand the difficulty of being a seer, it's Shane. Akane is tasked with protecting Shane from dark forces that wish to use him for their own needs. Shane uses this to his advantage as he woos her, his true bond. But with the drama and danger going on due to the Malmaynes, the issue is whether Akane will give into her needs and mark Shane as only a true bond would.

What I Liked and Didn't:
Akane certainly had the right amount of sass to make her interesting, Shane certainly has his work cut out for him to keep her happy. I like that she's badass and she fights well, it makes the fact she's a blade more believable than if she'd ran from a fight. I like Shane and Akane's relationship, it made sense that each other's true bond would be just as special as they are. There were some pretty sweet moments between the two of them. When it comes to Shane's ability, it was certainly a unique idea and the fact he makes art from them. I definitely wished that I'd been able to see them in real life, especially the statue that he made of Akane. It was a bit annoying that while Akane was supposed to be working as a Blade, Shane's jealousy could have ruined any work that they've done as he interrupts her plan. When it comes to the plot twist and traitor, it shocked me. I think of myself as a naturally suspicious person so I can appreciate the fact I hadn't seen the person coming, nor what kind of supernatural they were.

Final Thoughts:
It certainly has Miss Bell's writing style, she manages to have action and danger while still making it a light read. She has found the balance well where the plot is action-filled but not too dark.
Would I recommend it? Of course, the entire series is pretty great.
Will I be carrying on the series? Definitely, Puck deserves his own happy ending.

Oh. My. Well this earned its 5 stars in my book. I'm a big fan of The Gray Court series. I was looking forward to reading Shane and Akane's story. Most times that usually marks a doomed read for me. Never intentionally, it's just that I always seem to build the anticipation and expectations up so high while I'm waiting for the book to be released that they seem to fall short for me while other readers rave over them. Obviously such was not the case with this story for me.

I love dragons and Akane Russo is one hell of a little spitfire. She is a half pint hybrid, Dragon/Seer that is often underestimated by her diminutive frame. Akane is a very skilled warrior as a Blade and works directly for The Hob, also known as Robin Goodfellow. Her assignment is to protect Shane Dunne. Problem is Shane knows that Akane is his mate even if she won’t admit it. He has no problem being patient because in his heart he knows she will come around. He saw it in a vision after all.

Shane is a hybrid too but of a rare kind. He is equal parts leprechaun and Sidhe who also has a hidden talent as a Seer. Shane incorporates his visions into unique pieces of art. There is a prophecy that The Child of Dunn will change the world as they know it, and the Dark Court will do anything to obtain the child. Could Shane be the child the prophecy refers to?

I expected this to be my least favorite book of the series so far and it was but not by as far as I thought it would be. First of all the sex scenes *amazing* maybe the best out of all the others. But the relationship took longer for me to get into than the others as well. Something about the interactions between the two rubbed me the wrong way until they actually had sex then they were more in sync with what i wanted to see. Also so much exciting stuff happened in this book but i felt like it wrapped up waaaay too quickly for everything that happened. I would have liked to see a little less buildup (esp with the sniping between the couple) and a little more ending. Also while i love Bell's creatively awesome brain her editor needs to be brought before a firing squad. All three of the books i have read by her have their fair share of mistakes, which admittedly probably only jump out to me because i'm a grammar Nazi. Sometimes there are words that make the sentences make 0 sense and i hate that because i like the fluidity of being able to speed read and flow through the story. I will keep reading her because i love her work but i cant say i wouldn't be ecstatic to see her get a new editor. Cannot WAIT to read the hobs story!!!

Holy sweet mother of fantasy! I fricken LOVE this woman!!

I really love the storyline of this series. I tend to find Fae books a bit boring but it's no surprise to me that Dana Marie Bell managed to create a Fae story that I just cannot get enough of.

Shane is an incredible character, his ability to see the future and express it through his art makes him entertaining. He is sexy and cocky, which let's face it we all really love in our fictional men. Akane is a kick ass female and I just loved her way with people, or lack of. She makes you want to be a dragon shifter which is something I would normally not like. But then Bell has a great ability to make any kind of shifter hot... at this stage I would think she could make a slug shifter lovable.

Robin Goodfellow has got to be one of the most intriguing characters I have ever come across. My need to know what his story is going to be about is intense and going to drive me insane. God the curiosity is going to kill me! This book ended with so many amazing questions I actually cannot wait for The Hob, it's most definitely going on my list of can't wait to read books!

This series just keeps getting better!
Artistic Vision is probably my favorite so far for so many reasons.

First we have Shane Dunne. He is a true hybrid with a hint of Seer in him, so he is able to see some future events. Instead of letting the visions drive him mad, he makes art from his visions. He's not a fighter, but to protect those he loves he will fight. But convincing Akane Russo that she is his true bond will be the best fight Shane's ever had.

Akane Russo is also a hybrid part dragon and has the gift of sight as well from her mother the Seer. She's also a Blade and doesn't plan on giving that up to stay on a farm in the middle of Nebraska. But Shane is persistent and more understanding of her job than she gives him credit for. But with the Malmayne clan still making moves to capture Leo and making secret alliances with the Black court will this dragon ever get the chance to claim her mate?

This one was the best one yet!! I really enjoyed the whole book. The only problem I really have with this series and therefore this book is that I want more!!! More background into their powers, there world, the different courts.Sometimes the answers just seem to be skimmed over. I want that information overload. Maybe its just because I do so love the fae world and this one just seems to give you the tip of the iceberg so to speak.
I love Robin Goodfellow or the Hob, his character is wonderful and I am truly looking forward to his happily ever after. I know he doubts it will ever happen, poor, dangerous, scary man :)

These books are sexy and wonderful the characters funny and engaging. Shane and Akane was a wonderful couple, although she gave in to quickly for me (i wanted more tension). Still a good book, hanging out for the next one, The Hob :)

Shane Dunne is just funny. I love the banter between Shane & Akane. I Love that Dana Marie Bell has mixed so many of my favorite things together in one series: dragons, fae (especially Robin Goodfellow), vampires & leprechauns.
In their continuous effort to get their way the Malmaynes clan is pulling out the big guns & attacking all the Dunne family. Akane has to protect Shane on Goodfellow’s orders which irritates her to no end… she is annoyed by the farm boy. Slowly Shane tries to give her glimpses of who he really is & it’s NOT an idiot farm boy. Following his secret informanent intel, Shane tries to help Akane realize she’s his true-mate. With all the hell he goes through in this book, Akane must realize is she can live without him.
Geez I can’t wait the 10 days till book#4 comes out!!!

this was my first book in the series and although the story may have been better, if had known some of the backstory, but it was good nevertheless.

the characters were very interesting. I liked Akane as a heroine although the change in Akane was for me not really comprehensible and some of the actions should have really angered her. Shane was a nice guy with a mean streak ... fun

these are not the reasons why only three stars. my problem was the missing feelings and that as a reader you were always kept in the dark. especially with Shanes visions. I don't like to have feelings and developments explained - I want to experience them. I am afraid Dana Marie Bell and I will not become friends - I just can't get into her writing style.

but all in all it was a good story and a nice book. maybe I will givew the next book a try

Shane has to be one of the coolest people ever! I mean not only does he have visions of the future but then he creates these cool statues about his visions. So fun! Plus the banter between Shane and Akane is awesome, I love when he pretends to act like "Jethro" and it is what keep the book fun and makes you laugh! I also love seeing the plot line develop in each book and it keeps you guessing and wondering whats going to happen next, what is the White Court and the Black court up to? There's such a great mix of mystery, hilariousness, sexy scenes and banter to keep the book entertaining no matter how many times you read it.

I give this 5 out of 5 stars for pure hilariousness!

This book started out really promising, with a great heroine, but then she just slowly dumbs down throughout the book. For some kick-arse 'soldier' she is totally out-classed by the hero she is supposed to be protecting, completely drops the ball on her protection job, on several occasions. Then she has a completely TSTL moment with someone who she is supposed to be investigating.
It all FRUSTRATED THE FREAKING HELL out of me, after the TSTL moment, I skipped to the last chapter, which didn't improve things for me.
Oh and the hero was a bit smug, and kind of a arse.
I love this author, but I think I will be staying away from this series.

Definitely my favorite of the series so far. Though I'm looking forward to seeing who the Hob ends up with!

Akane is a dragon/Seer hybrid, one of Robin's Blades, and been given the job to guard Shane Dunne (at least when she's not off doing other work). Shane is a Sidhe/leprechaun hybrid, and despite his dumb farm boy act he's a talented sculptor, a smart guy, and has visions of the future.

He knows as soon as he meets her that she's his mate, and though he has to go slow to get her used to the idea he's not going to let her leave him. Maybe less spicy than the other books, definitely more action.

I hate no idea that this book would be perfect
As the title says artistic vision it is totally worth reading. Before this i read noble blood n got interested in akane and shane. It is so beautifully written. I adore the way shane teases her but also serious.he is also not caging her. Letting her the person she always been also totally love sean "u meant harm to my daughter-in-law" .he cares n such loving person. It also shows the side of akane caring,
Vulnerable also strong and totally independent.
And now i can't wait toThe hob. Poor robin has been alone, lonely, barely hanging to humanity now finally he is going to get a mate ....

This is one scorching hot book. Do NOT read if you want to avoid sex scenes.

It's a fairly common story line for this genre. It's a paranormal romance- one true love, one true bond, no one else can substitute, and they live happily ever after, after life threatening struggle. That's ok. I don't mind the formula and the characters are fun to get to know. This is part of a series- the third book and it was great to watch the characters grow in each book. It made me laugh and smile and that's my idea of a good book!

This was the longest and most detailed of the Gray Court books so far. And so far, it's my favorite in the series. I love Shane and Akane, their personalities and talents, and their romance. The story furthers the underlying Malmayne plot and sets up further stories in the series. I really enjoyed the whole book and can't wait to read more from Ms. Bell.
