Picked this up in a bargain bin without knowing anything about the author. It just looked like something I might find interesting.
The author obviously spent a great deal of time researching the details of this period of history. The military and civil attention to detail appears to be quite accurate. Even the street layout of Rome that he details is accurate according to what I know. The characters presented are generally either all good or all bad, but the dialogue is not stilted as you might expect. I enjoyed this book quite a bit.
