A young 1950s war-widow time travels to 2016 to save a stranger's life at the risk of her own in Marilyn Campbell's "skillfully blended" [The Time Machine] time-travel romance, JUST IN TIME. When Beverly Newcastle, a young 1950s war-widow, encounters a gypsy fortune teller with a magic potion, she's tossed 5 decades into the future and lands in the arms of Josh Colby, a half-Mohawk, Harley-riding bouncer. Desperate to clear his imprisoned grandfather of a murder he did not commit, Josh learns that Beverly holds the key. To turn that key, Beverly must travel back to her own time. But by the time he and Beverly figure out how to send her back, Beverly also holds the key to his heart.
Marilyn Campbell has been writing fiction novels, nonfiction works and screenplays for nearly twenty years. A true thrill-junkie, she has jumped out of an airplane, raced around the Indy 500 track, driven solo throughout the United States and believes a great roller coaster ride can cure whatever ails her. She resides happily in Massachusetts with her daughter Joie and their lovable four-legged companions, Sweetie and Milk-Dud.
All of my "old" paperback books are still available in unopened condition on my personal website (autographed if desired) but I am in the process of getting them all into e-book format. www.marilyncampbell.com
After reading this book and the one previous in the Lovers In Time series, I realize the author has a way of keeping me wanting to know what’s going to happen next, and next after that. The books were somewhat complicated, but were easy to remember all the “moving parts.” Sometimes I have to write down the characters in a book, and notes about who’s doing what, but not with these books. The characters are so memorable, and the plot flows so logically, that I remember everything. I just ordered the next in the series, and I highly recommend these books to everyone who loves a mysterious love story.
It's been years since I found an a.axing time travel story. Seeing her Just in Time book listed on Bookhub rang a bell when I saw the author's name. What a fun read. The story is about a young war bride widowed after two days of marriage whose friends talk her into going to a fortune teller She's a skeptic but soon finds adventure and love. The tale has many twists and turns and I loved every one of them. Since this is book 2 of 3, I'm anxious to start the other two. Great fun. A fast read. And a "new" author for me to enjoy again. Absolutely recommend!
This is actually quite a good book for one published a decade ago. I'm sure its been updated but the storyline is still pertinent. Characters needed s bit of an update, but they still worked well. You need to read this book with a bit of magic and a lot of hope in your heart...it could happen to you, too. ❤️ (I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by eBook Discovery. I enjoyed it!)
I enjoyed this time travel romance very much! I could relate to the time in history that Beverly was familiar with and she didn't have nearly as much trouble relating to her new time as I would have expected. Josh was a dreamy hunk and deserved a better life than he had in the present.
I will be looking for more stories by this author.
Beverly meeting with a fortune teller Lovonda didn’t believe in all she was told. She was given a potion to drink and she traveled forward 51 years in the future. She was told she was to save a life. Instead she fell in love. Back to the past and there was the life to save. How was she to get back to her love in the future?
I loved this book. I loved the descriptions of the Native American ceremonies and the spirituality throughout. Bevy certainly took a risk when she accepted the request to set a wrong right but she carried through. But Josh was correct in calling her naive for she didn’t really consider the results of her actions. A beautiful read.
lovely story of time travel with a different twist. I loved the idea that Bevvy had to "save" someone and had to find who to save. Also she is to meet someone to open her heart. After only 2 days of marriage when her husband is killed in war, she rather retreats from life
So much better than I’d anticipated, more than your run of the mill time travel stories. Believable and very likeable characters, so yes I would definitely recommend.
It's been over 10 years since her husband was killed in Korea but to the heroine, it feels like yesterday. In a way, she died along with him because the life she now lives is a solemn existence devoid of much joy. It seems like she's just going through the motions. Until the night of her 30th birthday.
Her friends, anticipating the chance of doing something special take her to see a fortune teller. One friend gets the news that she will be meeting her future husband soon, while another is told that her abusive husband will be the cause of serious damage to one of her children. The heroine, however, is given no future. Instead, she is given a vial and told that if she drinks it she will experience adventure and love. The heroine dismissing this as foolish...until all the other predictions begin to come true.
One night, the heroine takes a chance and drinks the potion only to find herself in a scandalous place filled with half naked men and vulgar women. She staggers out into the parking lot where she meets a long-haired man on a motorcycle who reminds her James Dean. She speaks with the man for a few moments before she is whisked back to her apartment. It's some time before she is given the chance to return once again 30 years into the future and this time, she's given a task to save the life of someone important. She imagines the motorcycle riding man she meets again on top of the scaffolding is to be this man. Now all she has to do is convince him.
The hero is not a sociable guy. His life has been hard-having his father convicted for murder and his mother working herself to death to care for him. He himself works far enough money to pay the rent on his tiny New York apartment and occasionally share a drink at the bar. He doesn't know who or what this woman is but whatever she is, she's trouble and he does not want part of it. At first, he completely dismisses her stupid talk of time travel and the fact that she has to save him but soon, he realizes she is alone in a strange city without food or money. So, he takes her back to his apartment and puts her up for the night fully expecting her to vanish again come morning like she did those few nights ago. But she remains in the morning and now he's stuck with the dilemma he doesn't want.
He knows a guy like him can't possibly have a change with a girl like her but she makes him so happy. Still, when he finds himself growing too attached he takes the coward way out and puts distance between them. The heroine, takes this as rejection and moves out. It's some time before he finds the courage to track her down and confess his love for her but when he finally does.... it’s too late and she is ripped from his arms once again. Back in her own time, the heroine realizes that the hero was not the man she was supposed to save but rather the man she was supposed to love. No, she must save his father from being framed for a crime he didn't commit and therefore change the hero's future. Once completed she returns to the future anticipating the chance of spending the rest of her life with the man she loves...only to discover in this new future, he is engaged to be married. Now the heroine must make his remember his love for her before it's too late and he's lost to her forever.
This was a charming book on one that I actually enjoyed quite a bit. It was far better written that it's cover would lead you to believe and I fell in love with the heroine from the very start. She was a shy woman who lived with the ghost of her husband but when given the chance to experience life, she took it by the horns. I enjoyed her innocence and her kind heart. The hero was also a character that grabbed my attention. He's a native American living in New York and he knows he's not worth much. He's not white, he's not rich and he has a past of anger issues stemming from his convict father. He doesn't think much of himself but he is a kind heart as well and he takes the heroine in and even though he wants more from her, he's respectful of her virtue. He is gruff and there's times when he runs away from his problems but he cries for her when he imagines she has returned to the past. My one issue? The ending. It was horribly rushed and as such I didn't believe in the notion of this wealthy and well to do man falling instantly in love with the strange girl his parents have brought into the fold. I would have enjoyed a more in-depth rediscovery of their love. As such, I couldn't rate it a 5 star but I will happily give it a 4 star and encourage readers to give this book a chance despite the cheesy cover. It was surprise you.
I found in this in an old box of books and wondered why I'd kept this book. The cover is horrendous. Then I started reading. It's a time traveling book. Sure, the premise stinks (gypsy powers = time traveling) so it's not a true sci-fi time traveling book but the hero and heroine are fun.
On the other hand, I just finished reading an article about evaluating books for cultural appropriate factors. On of the factors on determining if a book was culturally appropriate asked if the minority character required rescuing by a white character. This started a debate within me.
On the one hand, we have a white woman "rescuing" a half-Native American man from his tortured soul/past. On the other hand we have a woman rescuing a man from his tortured soul/past. Is the emphasis on her whiteness and his heritage or is the emphasis on her strength as a woman and his weakness due to his past? I was a uncomfortable with her traditional values (value of virginity, innocence, etc.) giving her the strength necessary to rescue him to make him a better man.
However, once I step away from literary analysis, it was just a fun story. I'm keeping this book, despite the cover!
I started this one thinking it was going to be about someone from the present sent into the future, and so was a bit disappointed. Then I got bored with all the time spent on her friends that she had in the 50's. Then to top it all off, it was one of those books where love is finally returned just before the book ends under overly contrived circumstances. I felt Irked.
This was my first romance book! I loved the story! OMG, i couldn't believe i found it here! I read it i think around 15 years ago! Unfortunately i lost the book after our move a few years back. Would love to read it again!
