This is a short story (less than 50 pages) in the Jess Kimbal series, even though Jess plays a very small part here.
Her assistant, Mandy, and her boyfriend, Trent, take center stage. Mandy is in the process of becoming an investigative journalist while Trent is a former detective recently opening his own private investigations office.
A young woman disappeared several weeks ago while staying at a ski resort in Wyoming. With her was her boyfriend, the son of very rich parents. The police are taking a really hard look and assigning him the title of Prime Suspect.
His parents want him cleared of any and all suspicion so they have hired Trent to out this to bed. Mandy and Trent travel to Wyoming during the worst blizzard the state has ever known. Not hiding who they are or what they're doing there, they start questioning the people at the resort.
When Trent stumbles the woman's body, he finds that she has only just been killed .. meaning that the killer is still in the resort because of the weather.
And the police cannot send any investigators.
This is an excellent addition to the series. I do recommend reading from the beginning ... Jess Kimbal is a terrific character. Even though she only played a small part here, this was a good murder mystery. The author has done a great job filling each short page with action and suspense.
Hard action in a setting so rugged I about froze to death!
New to the PI game, former Denver cop Trent is joined by Jess Kimbal's assistant, Mandy, to fly off to Wyoming to get information to clear the son of Trent's clients, a suspect in the case of his missing fiancée. No sooner have they landed and been shuttled to the ski lodge than the light's go out...literally; Trent discovers the freshly murdered body of the missing girl; and then the action picks up. Fast paced (it took a little under an hour to read) it was a great read. Left me wanting more of Trent and Mandy. Come on Diane, don't leave us hanging!!!
Two new characters developed well in a fast moving short story. Enjoyable to the end. Mandy and Trent make a good duo of private investigators using Jess Kimball to do the research for them. Good twist to a Jess Kimball story.
A bit too convenient and quick for my liking . The story is not really believable as it’s all too convenient. They had only been at the hotel a minute and the murder was solved
