Wall Street Journal bestselling author SJ Scott wanted to be Luke Skywalker when he grew up.
Unfortunately his complete lack of physical grace and introverted mannerism's kept the earth from having their own Jedi Knight to battle the Sith menace.
Steve “SJ” Scott was born and raised in New Jersey. After finishing college with a degree in psychology he knew he needed to further his education or work on his latte making skills.
During a short stint in US Air Force, Scott was able to get his Master’s in business and then moved on to conquer the business world.
Scott then spent a couple of years working for a company not unlike the company depicted in Mike Judge’s film, “Office Space”. After doing his share of “TPS” reports, Scott swore he would never work for anyone but himself.
He spent the next few years making this happen. Making a decent living online and eventually pivoting to writing books, blogging and even podcasting.
Scott has written over 30 books, most of them in the "self-improvement" genre. An area that he is personally passionate about.
His books have been published in 12 different languages. So he is well on his way to world domination. However, in his heart of hearts he knows he will soon have to venture out into the universe and defeat the Sith menace.
A bit disappointing. Most of the tips are not practical and lean towards OCD behavior. Out of the 23 tips listed, I found 3 to be helpful. If those 3 tips work, though, I suppose it was worth the read.
So there's nothing revolutionary here: The book's a concise summary of well known techniques in the "productivity-segment", with some extra anecdotes. The book does for instance present many of the techniques from "Getting Things Done". In other words: It's not really about procrastination directly, but habits that make your life easier, like for instance having tools ready for capturing thoughts and ideas the moment you have them, so your brain doesn't have to think about anything other than doing the task at hand (avoid the Zeigarnik-effect). Or techniques for organizing tasks. It's written in a direct way, without much fluff like many similar books does.
In short: It's a nice introduction and summary to productivity techniques.
I'm guilty of procrastinating myself. Thus I picked up this book. I too desire to curb those procrastination habits that took months or even years to form.
Overall, the book is an okay read. I find the implementation habits penned in each chapter to be a bit overwhelming. Though, the author encouraged the reader to start with one habit at a time for the next 30 days. It's just short read. If you're interested in the topic. This book might help.
This is one of those books that don't work for me in the audible format. There were so many good ideas that I wanted to take notes and refer to the material again. However, listening in the car does lend itself for taking notes. I will have to save this one and refer back to it again.
Quick, easy to read, and straight to the point. There isn't anything amazingly new or groundbreaking in here, but it gave me the motivation and insight to get off my ass and get back into the swing of things.
Standard set of ideas. Consistency of implementation is the key. Substitute with newer activities instead of procrastinating. Start exceedingly small. 30 day habit formation. Ok read.
Very helpful. Short book to finish in 1 hour before your bed time. The book gives you all the ideas and helpful ways to stop your procrastination habits. As a officer who is struggling with dealing multiple tasks, I believe this book will help me a lot to improve myself.
Quick read, common habit building implementation, but it does provide a variety of "routines" to switch things up while we're procrastinating. Author states the reasons (fears) why we procrastinate..I found this is more enlightening than the actual implementation. Knowing why I do or do not do certain thing is more motivational to me than following rules blindly.. i guess.

Does not Compare Favorably to Other Books in this Niche, Stategies Too Time Consuming to Practically Apply
This book provides the standard set of recommendations that so many anti-procrastination books do (i.e. set goals in writing, review them periodically, etc.). It provides nothing that has not been said many, many times before. It definitely does not provide anything over and above the literature in this field, in general. Nor anything new for that matter.
In addition, what the author recommends is very time consuming needs to be followed for his plan to work. Considering the considerable amount of time required (i.e. making task lists by day, week, etc. and following and modifying these perpetually) this is quite a problem. In this reviewer's time this is the worst part of the book. Any anti-procrastination book must recommend relatively non-consuming strategies that can actually be accomplished. If a good half hour is required every day it cannot practically be followed. This point is very ironic considering that the author himself states that one of the major causes of procrastination is the feeling of being overwhelmed with tasks and not having enough time to do everything.
Great book for those who suffer from procrastination which I do at times. The author discusses 23 habits that can help with controlling procrastination.
For me the following seemed pertinent: - Capture your ideas whenever they pop up. - Create lists for every multi-step project. I do this at work but not in other areas of my life. - Create checklists for routine tasks. - Do a review for a few hours each week. I'm not sure if a few hours are needed but a regular review each week as part of a weekly planning meeting would be helpful. - Track your progress and success. I always do better when I track my progress. - Be patient with the process of improving your life. I want it now. I need to be more patient, especially when it comes to building good habits. - Take a 30-day challenge to change one habit at a time.
None of these are new ideas but it is always good to be reminded of ways to improve myself.
This book had some great tips that I was already familiar with and use, but also several others which are quite clever.
Obviously procastination is a matter of putting things off and the solution is to go ahead and do them.
But your initial approach to projects and a correct system can decrease the opportunities to procastinate or curb them, and that's what I really enjoyed about this books concept.
The "homework", if you will, that prevents this habit in the first place and the simple way to do it.
There are also great examples in the book that help to see how this information can really be applied to your personal life as well as professional life.
I gave it 4 stars just because I already knew a lot of the basic concepts. But if your'e not a business coach who deals with system optimization like me, practically teaching this type of content for a living, I'd go ahead and give it a 5.
Kind of repetitive, but it was good to feel affirmed in many of my productivity habits. Some of the habits toward the end of the book seem extreme to me. I agree with doing the most important things first. And I also agree with getting this done as quickly as I can, regardless of the deadline. I like to have things done well before any deadline. I don't even want to worry about a deadline. But all the tracking and spreadsheets? I love spreadsheets, but I don't know if I need that level of tracking. Maybe I'm just that good. ;)
I will not give total credit to this book, but it did coincide with a appreciable spike in my productivity. Even if you are well acquainted with most of the habits, there are more than a few ones that you might not have been so acquainted. I usually tend to eschew from reading these books listing the 25 ways to do something, as they tend to be low quality, money generating books. This is one of the few exceptions.
I doubt his techniques will mean I will not procrastinate, but it's worth a try.
Identify your priorities. Create SMART goals Take advantage of the 80/20 rule Schedule weekly, monthly, and quarterly reviews Focus on your MITs every morning Create checklists

A short read but helpful in so many ways with regards to dealing with procrastination. Although it's overwhelming to be filled with numerous tips on how to beat procrastination, the author clarified that it's impossible to apply them all at once in your life. I find this useful in case I would like to read it again and pick up some handful tips to apply in my own system.
This book is fairly helpful to deal with your procrastination habits although many parts overlap with the Eat The Frog by Brian Tracy. It could have been more interesting through presenting the real experience of people who have dealt with the procrastination habit. In addition, I believe that the ideas were not psychologically deep enough as I had expected.

The book had good tips but I saw it more as a way of amplifying your do lists. There may be a few that can be easily implemented but most require as much as trying not to procrastinate
What I like best from the book is that it went directly “to the point “ and doesn’t let you thinking that you are just reading anecdotes, thank you very much for that. The book is very easy to read. I liked very much
While the info is good info, there was nothing ground breaking in here that hasn’t been said in many other books. There were so many references to David Allen’s “Getting Things Done” book that it would make more sense to just read that book instead.
