Bread Broken and Shared: Broadening Our Vision of the Eucharist

Rate this book
In the 'state of grace,' Eucharist can reinforce within us a very personalist piety and sense of virtue. We can be consoled by the fact of Jesus' love without recognizing an obligation to share that love. Such a Eucharist is a far cry from Jesus' life and last supper. Father Bernier's method is to explore the scriptures in an innovative manner, not just looking for passages directly related to the Eucharist, but actually "reading Scriptures from a eucharistic perspective," a procedure he shows to be consistent with the purpose of the writers themselves. From that perspective the gospels and epistles are seen as a direct link to the eucharistic life of the early church and therefore a model for eucharistic life in every age.
