Whipping Girl

Rate this book
My name is Alexander and I am an Elite Assassin for an organization called The Guard. I was taken, trained and conditioned to be everything that they needed from me and as a reward I received a Gift.

My name is Allyanna and I am that Gift. I was taken from my family and used by The Guard to keep Alexander in line, I am their insurance, their leash, and their whipping girl.

***DISCLAIMER*** This is NOT a completely fluffy story. Although it contains some humor and sweetness, it also has dark elements that might make some uncomfortable. It also contains elements of dominance, obsession, discipline and dubious consent. There’s also some blood and violence doled out. If any of this offends you, this may not be the book for you.

The hero is a scary and uber controlling guy which is a part of his "conditioning" . The heroine is adorable and fragile. Loved their couple. Films and books about an organization that conditions men to become perfect killers always intrigued me.
Crazy psycho boyfriend vibes hit you right in the face in the second part of the book

I'm gonna make this short! I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes OTT protective hero! I repeat. To all my GR friends who likes hot, obsessive, OTT in love with the heroine? Well this book is for you! I can't stress enough how much Alex loves Ally! Its a lil creepy but at the same time makes everything sense because they've been through alot specially Alex.

The story is kinda dark but nothing too intense. Story line was good, it kept me up til 3ish am for 2 days! I can't remember the last time I read something that made me want to stay THAT late! As I said- it was good! This is the reason why I love reading books, authors like L. Jacob writes stories that makes me feel EVERYTHING!

To top it off, we have a weak heroine.. well- scratch that, she's not really a weak doormat heroine.. ALEX is just TOO INTENSE. haha!

5 stars!

Wow! I’ve had this one on my kindle since it first released. It’s always been in the back of my mind but I just never pulled it up. Finally, I opened it up and I didn’t close it again until the end.

Alexander is raised deprived of the basic emotional needs every person requires. He is tortured and trained to become a killer. Having never had a family or anyone to love him and call his own he does as he’s told. When The Guard promises him a Gift if he succeeds in his tasks, he gives it everything he has. And thus he is given Ally. From that moment on his whole life is centered on keeping her safe, keeping her happy, and just keeping her for himself.

This was a bit of a dark read with Alexander being a rather scary anti-hero. He performs his job with a dead detachment but when it comes to Ally he sees the future and all the goodness and sunshine that her presence in his life promises. While some of his actions were alarming and outright controlling at times, there is no doubt that I didn’t love his possessive and protective attitude toward her. She was all he could see and I loved that his world revolved around her.

Ally was the perfect heroine for such a forceful hero. She had just enough sass to push him, but also the urges and desires to yield when needed. His background alone dictated a woman that would do so and she did it very well. I enjoyed watching her grow and then experiencing her stretch herself against his forceful nature.

This book was dark and heavy at the start and then lightened up a bit in the middle. Secondary characters did not carry a lot of weight but were both entertaining and dangerous. The pacing was perfect and I never skimmed as I devoured every word of Ally and Alexander’s story. And then I reached the ending and if I was not already in love with these characters, the last chapter and epilogue would have done it for me. Unfortunately, I don’t believe this author has anything else available to read but I’ll be double checking just to make sure.

5 ⭐️ New keeper!
Omg I can’t believe this is someone’s debut novel! Ignore the cheesy book cover and title, and read this asap if you love a dark, emotional, coming of age romance. Don’t sleep on this, like I did, yea the book title and the cover is off putting, it’s give you a low budget, amateur porno vibe, but the story is not that.

This author has character development down to a science. She got me so completely engrossed and invested in this couple's relationship that I ignored food and work all day! I was bawling one moment in heartbreak, then bawling because they were just too cute together.

-Both were sold/abducted as kids.
She is given to him for good behavior when he was 10. She was just 6 yrs old. She will become the most important thing in his life and his greatest weakness.
(Cons: the kids didn’t speak like little kids, but I didn’t care)

- has one of the most Obsessed, controlling, OTT possessive jealous alpha Hs. He’s a natural-born dom, and she’s his soulmate - a natural born sub. This book is not some bondage erotica though, it’s just the vibe these two gave me. He is SUPER controlling, so much so that if it had been real life, I would’ve be scared for her, and telling her to get to a safe house. Lol.

🧨Safety spoilers— SPOILERS

- Virgin h. H is her first everything and only.
- No cheating.
- No OW drama but…

- 🧨H becomes an assassin and then is forced to sleep with his targets against his will - to keep the h safe. They would’ve hurt/killed her otherwise.

To understand this part, you need to know the plot.
There are other reviewers with full/detailed reviews,
but briefly, the MCs were stolen as kids.
Little boys are trained /conditioned brutally to become assassins.
And little girls are stolen for the boys - as gifts.
Also these girls are used to control the boys.
Each elite boy owns a girl, and strong bonds are formed between them.
The H formed a stronger bond with the h because he is also an orphan. He’s never known love. The h truly is his everything. Friend, family, and lover (in the future).
When a boy misbehaves, the girl is whipped. Hence the title of this book.

So from the age 6(h) - 10(H) they’re in a relationship. But obviously not sexually yet, they’re just kids.

(what happens below happens briefly in the book - its very minor. It seems long because I'm giving details)
- From the age 16~19 he is forced to have sex with his targets.
This is done against his will, he basically becomes a whore who is also an assassin. Since he is sleeping with them against his will,,I would call this rape.
So during this period -3years, he slept with numerous women, and because we have his pov, these scenes are super angsty and emotional because he’s dying from guilt.
🧨- there are no sex scenes with ow.
- 🥺however there is one scene where we see him enter a room for sex. His first time. As a safety reader…who won’t touch cheating books, it bothered me.
This girl was some stunning, voluptuous femme fatale used by his agency to train him sexually. He enters the room, sees her gorgeous body, he is aroused (because he’s a teenager)..then it’s fade to black. Next scene is him in the burning hot shower trying to scrub his skin off …and the h is outside wanting to see him.
Keep in mind too that all of this happened when the h is 12 yrs old, and they were not sexual in any way.. Only cuddles in bed and they did sleep on the same bed since they were kids (if they were allowed to be together)

- the part where the h finds out about him fucking ow was heartbreaking. I cried because HE was in such pain for having to hurt her. She finds out when she was 15.
- 5 year separation. He remained celibate for 5 years.

I hope Molly doest get a book. I wasn’t interested enough in her to read it.

The first thing that caught my attention to read this book are assasin/hitman/contract-killer followed by captivity, childhood love (YESS!), older guy younger girl, OTT-possessive a-hole, marriage(those of you who knew me know that I am a hoe and a sucker for such themes!)

This is my casting for Alexander the A$$hole !

description

Alexander is a sweet, sweet orphan boy <3. At the beginning he's so likeable (squishable even!) but after such treatment and condition one can't expect to act like a normal civilian after all! His love towards his caretaker is enough to make me grip my chest and silently screaming for them. This boy right here has so much love and he LOVE HARD like no escaping you're in don't ever think to get out ;). Honestly I L O V E Alexander with his pure intention of making Ally his wife and when they start picturing themselves in the future together with kids and a cute house? I'M FUCKING BUYING THEM A HOUSE TO MAKE BABIES AND LIVE HAPPILY EVERY AFTER.

"I don't really care what will surround us, Ally, because all I see in my future is you"

Oh, he also suffer from bipolar disorder;

I want as many duplicates of you as we can possibly make. If I'm going to make it into heaven then I'm going to need a lot of angels on my side."

and then he goes all psycho on her,

Mmm....if you wanted it rough, baby, all you needed to do was say so,"
"I think a better question is....what wouldn't I do?"

SCREAMING SILENTLY.

And.... this is Allyana/Ally/Angel/Whipping Girl (Ivan kept calling her this but I can't relate much. It doesn't make sense to name the book title with it too??)

description

For a heroine, Ally is O-KAY. I don't really mind her but her presence in the novel is weak. I don't feel connected with her in Part 1 somehow but nonetheless she's alright. For a girl who basically was taken from her family and shut from the outside world, she's not as shy as I thought she would be. Though I start to like her in Part 2, the part when she handled the crazy a$$hole for wanting to put a bun in her oven 24/7 so that she's bind to him. Dude so insecure he needs to procreate little angels as soon as possible LOL.

"You know, some people would say that privacy is basic human right." She says wryly
"Then those people have never loved anybody the way that I love you. You didn't give me a choice when you shut me out."

If I have to re-read the book I would read Part 1 over and over again. I love the intensity and how the characters grow from there (especially Alexander, I mean really? From pure silent boy to heartless killer? THAT'S SOME CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT OVER THERE!).
There are so many things going on in part 1 and when Link talked about his past? S O L D! S O L D! like seriously get him some novella/book/short story I don't care I NEED LINK'S STORY LIKE YESTERDAY! That's some good backstory shit over there, author you hear me? WE NEED JUSTICE FOR LINK

Then.....things start going downhill in part 2. The shit with Peter? I don't think it's necessary. They kidnapped her for uh what? For revenge? or to rape her? I don't get it it feels like all he wants is just to have his way with her instead of revenge towards Alexander. Oh well. 0.5 star is missing because of that :(

That epilogue is ughhhh <333333 love love love.

Wow.

I couldn’t put this book down. It’s definitely one to keep and re-read.

The first third had me completely mesmerised.

Alex is taken from the orphanage at six years old. He’s trained and tortured and made into a killer. He makes his first kill at only ten years old.

To keep the assassins under control they’re given a gift. Something that is just theirs and theirs alone. A female to love.

“It’s not always going to be this way, you know.” He says with tilt of his lips and a raised brow. “One day, if you do everything right... we’ll give you someone who will be everything to you and you will be everything to her in return.” He grins out of the side of his mouth when I give him a skeptical look. “It’s true. If you give us your all, if you do as you are told then you will receive an ultimate Gift from us and she will be yours and nobody else's.” My heart rate picks up at his words. My very own person? Somebody who will love me and be mine? I’ve never had anything like that, I don’t even know what that would feel like but I do know that I crave it. His words burrow under my skin and implant into my brain. Someone who will love me. “You’ll have to make sure she’s protected though, Alex, only you can protect her. If you do something wrong then she will be hurt and it will be all your fault. Do you understand what I’m saying to you?” My breath hitches as I take in his words. Hurt her? No. I would never let any harm come to someone who was mine.

Allyanna is kidnapped at six years old and given to Alex.

This is heart breaking and beautiful at the same time. Alex will suffer through anything for her. She’s the only thing he’s ever had that’s just his. A chance at love and life.

There’s a jump of five years. (Which is when I forced myself to put my kindle down and actually make tea. Better late than never). While I’m not normally a fan of time jumps here it works.
The book is different from here. A little harder. Alex is...for want of a better word an arsehole. A controlling jealous arsehole.

I’ll admit at first I didn’t like this change. But then I thought about his life. How he’d been controlled and punished. What the past five years must have been like for him and I forgave him. Plus he loves and adores Ally so much it’s impossible not to love his possessive over protective self.

You see at this point he was more than a character in a book to me. They both were.

This book was recommended by a really close friend. She knows what I like which is why I read the blurb. Otherwise I think I would have dismissed this as a bdsm book. Not that I’ve anything against bdsm books it’s just not what I’m reading at the moment.
Having read the book the title is perfect. I’ve already looked for others books by this author but I can’t find any.
Surely this isn’t her first book?
If so I can’t wait for her second.

So many emotions... what an amazing book!

Is this really the only book by this author? Gah! I would read all her books if there were more!

Alexander had a harsh upbringing. He was put up for adoption and then was in the foster system. He was adopted twice, but both times was returned. Finally, he gets adopted for the last time when he’s six years old. Little did he know, this adoption was going to change his life, subject him to cruelties in life, and force him to make decisions no child should ever have to make.

Alexander gets trained to not only accept and overcome pain, emotions, and physical tests, but also gets tested to determine his strength to remain in this organization, an organization that teaches them to kill or take contracts or torture others. When he’s 10, a girl gets introduced to him, Ally. Ally is only six years old and she was kidnapped, taken away from her family. She has no idea what’s going on and is scared, but there’s a reason why they took her. They need her to motivate Alex to follow the rules and not fail any tests, which is why she is called the whipping girl. If Alex fails anything, doesn’t follow rules, tries to test the handlers or be too smart, Allie will suffer the consequences- she’ll be whipped. Soon after Ally arrives, they start bonding immediately. She seeks solace in him and he does everything to make her feel comfortable, make her feel welcome, make her feel loved. Everything he does, every test he passes, every person he kills, every contract he fulfills is to make sure that she is safe and that they will eventually be together. They essentially grow up together, Ally being forced to learn basic things from Alex, such as periods and how to read.

Time passes and Alex gets the opportunity to get Ally out of there. In order for him to do that, he has to let her go, so she can be safe away from him. He has to do the unthinkable and give her back to her family, a family that has not stopped looking for her. While she’s gone, he needs her to live her life, go to school, be as normal as possible, because he’s planning to come back for her. They are each other’s soulmates. But everything is not as it is seems or as it appears, and they’ll still be tested years later.

This book. Oh this book made me cry, made me giggle, made me swoon, made my heart rate speed up, made my stomach drop, and made me cringe. It was a gamut of emotions... and I loved every second! Even when they were still little kids, the connection between Alex and Ally was incredibly strong, and when they were older and she went through puberty, the smexy chemistry was becoming 🔥(but Alex felt it was wrong because she was only 15 while he was 19). But once Ally was an adult and Alex came back...oh dear lord... I don’t think anyone could’ve saved her from the heat, possessiveness and sexiness that Alex brought 🥵👀🙈🔥. By then it has been 5 years since he saw her (14 since they met) and... oh... em... gee 😅🥵... he made up for being away for sure 😉💦.

I loved that there was an epilogue. I wish we would’ve gotten books on other characters (like Zeke and Molly), which is why I’m sad this is the only book available from this author. This was definitely *chef’s kiss* ❤️. Loved it.

I really enjoyed this story. It had a perfect alpha male with possessive tendencies. And while this wasn't considered safe due to a few circumstances I still loved the story and the characters. A great debut book by this author, can't wait to see what's next!

4.5 'OMG' Stars.

Well, As usual first i would like to do some ramble and then i would tell you about the book.
Now on the rambling- As you all know( or don't know) my exams are too near for my liking and i really have to stop reading and review books to get through this semester safely, but again for a book addict or to be precise for a fiction romance addict like me 'NOTHING MATTER' more than to feed my addiction not even my future. i know, i know i am being dramatic but sorry fellas this is who i am ;p
So, the reason i am telling you all this is that even when i should not have read the book i did read this and i do not regret it even for a second because it was realllllly that good!

And yeah one more thing i would like to tell you that i am one of those person who never win anything in their life not even a toffee and let me tell you that sucks like 'HOW CAN I BE SO UNLUCKY' sucks. i used to feel really bad when i would never win any game, lottery etc but then i accepted it and stopped feeling sorry for myself, but somehow from past 1 year my life has changed and i am getting, winning or achieving gifts and prizes. well yeah they might be too small for other people to notice but dude! they really make my day so i am good with that. And now the reason i told you about this is that The Author of this book somehow decided that i deserve this book as a gift and Voila i got it as a free gift 'HURRAY'
Thank you so much L.Jacobs for this amazing book. you really rocked it.
well, Now on the book- It was Amazing like i should have read it sooner good. it had everything i love in a book 1, Ott Possessive HERO 2, Virgin heroine 3, Dominating hero 4,childhood lovers
Dude! i don't know about you guys but these four things are enough for me to adore this book.

The hero Alex was a orphan in the starting and was having a very tough childhood but then one day he was bought by a org. who creates assassins. he was only 8 when he was bought and got his training started. By the time he reached age 10 they gave him ALLY as a gift so that he can have a motivation, a reason for keep going. When he and ally met he knew she was the one for him and fell for her from the first sight. i loved How possessive and protective he was for ally form the day one. he kind of became ally's guardian in every sense as she was also taken from her parent's. he taught her, he fed her, he took care of her so gently. i loved it. Ally was one of those innocent sweet girl who don't know anything. it was really good. But when the org. tried to punish Ally for nothing. Alex decided it was time he bring out Ally from this dirt even if he has to live without her for sometime. well fast forward five years Alex is back and they reunite and the story goes from there.
THEIR relationship is now sexual and very diff. There were some concerns of mine as Alex was way too Dominating like telling her too take care of her tone or she can't deny him or she can't swear but then again they had a perfect excuse for their behavior. And come on we have read worse and still loved the heroes. so i let this slid by and because i really loved their hotness and chemistry. So in short it was a lovely book with some darkness. i really feel bad for Alex he went through alot. But over all i adored the book too much and really was a woad. i even like to recommend it to those of my friends who has same preferences.

SPOILERS AND TRIGGER WARNING AHEAD-
it had some child abuse and high violence at some scenes. Alex was also forced by the org. to sleep with someone else when he was only 16 but he loath it and it was non- descriptive. Ally was whipped when she was 15 or 16. BUT seriously writer covered everything very nicely and the book itself was soo good that i overlooked everything.

I did like it but it isn't for everyone and there were things I disliked/hated . It's a darker type story with an OTT, controlling, non-pc, dominant j/p alpha H.

The first half of the book is their childhood and the second half is when they are adults.

Toning down the H's behavior would've made a huge difference imo. Huge!

Overall, I did enjoy the book. Many will love it, I think. The author has a nice writing style and she drew me into her world right away. I devoured the first half of the book (5 stars for me). The second half would be more like 3 stars and I loved the epilogue. That was great.

This book was exactly what I was looking for!
I had such a blast reading about it but I can tell right away that it won’t be for everyone and so, especially if you’re not into heavily controlling and protective-possessive hero.

This book read kind of in two parts.
The first one was 5 stars for me, I love the blooming relationship between the MCs and the mystery surrounding the Sanctuary, I was freaking hooked! The plot was amazing, the world building was there and I’m personally fond of this writing style ( fast paced, straight to the point, not to flowery, consistent) so yeah fantastic!

The second part though was oddly less enjoyable, it contains a lot of repetition, the action was slower, some key scenes happened off pages and for once in my life, I wanted more information about the shady stuff going on with the sanctuary than the romance. I wanted more insight about the damn Plot and I wanted to SEE Aleksander take down the system, I wanted to see him grow and how he helped so many people to switch sides, I wanted to see his friendship with Zeke, or even his Dad etc and sadly all of those scene that could’ve helped us understand him better and for some even like him better, happened off page. I’m like WHY?!

I don’t mind the fact that he was dictating Ally’s life, especially with their upbringing, but I wanted just a bit more from her, she wasn’t a doormat per say, but she cried too much for my liking and I was ready for her to be more comfortable in her skin.

So yeah, fantastic read, I can definitely picture myself revisiting it again.

I can’t catch a break.....

Sigh, for the first 30% I actually enjoyed it ( well I didn’t hate it). My issue is the same one I had with M. Robinson’s books. This author does not know how to write children. Yes I get that Alex was being trained but he was acting and thinking like a 20 year old before he hit 10. I’m sorry but that shit is not ok with me! Then we met Ally and it was the same exact thing with her, if the author didn’t mention their age I would of sworn they were adults.

The storyline was actually really interesting and that’s why I pushed through. Up until the "breakout” I was ok but when They reunited I fucking HATED it.

Firstly, I love Alph males but the way in which Alex was written he went from being protective to being way too controlling. He treats Ally like his pet and his actions are fucking disgusting.

1. The same day he took her virginity he brutally fucked her in the ass because she talked back to him.
2. Every single time she tried to speak up he’s like " who the fuck are you talking too? Are you forgetting your place” and she’s like "sorry Alexander” ....
3. She slaps him because he blocked her family from texting or calling her and he brutally fucks her throat until she almost passes out while
she says " he’s doing this instead of hitting me back like I deserve” WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK????

I’m sorry but this is toxic and there is nothing redeeming about him. He went from being an alpha male early on in the book to being a manipulative asshole in the end. Ally is so weak it pissed me the fuck off. She lets him control her every move while
She’s just being dumb!

This book well and truly pissed me the fuck off. I can’t believe the author romanticized this relationship!!

I truly believe that she had this amazing storyline but she didn’t know how to execute it because whatever this is....Its bloody trash.

This is the first and last time I’m reading anything from her.

I do not recommend dammit!

I've read this a couple times since it came out. There are a few scenes that I can't get enough of so I reread them. Allyanna is sweet and innocent and Alexander is rough and demanding, the two of them are really hot together.

Wow. This is one BRAVE author!!

I'm way overdue with this review...read this ages ago and have been haranguing the author for book 2 ever since. Still waiting...!

Why do I say brave? The concept and content of this book are unique and controversial. It's a captive romance, but done like none before. See for yourself...

- The H isn't the captor. In some ways, Alex is just as much a victim. Except, the author doesn't rely on the now cliché "y'all will have sex for our entertainment and your training or else" trope. That's not the purpose of the captivity. It's more psychological/sociological torture/training. Devious and intriguing. Completely unique!

- There's no Stockholm Syndrome with the h. Some may argue this point. I think it's only natural that Ally would fall for Alex, under the circumstances. Yet, I didn't feel that the psychology at play here was as simple as Stockholm Syndrome. Sure, she relied on Alex for her well-being, but their relationship went beyond that. Not sure if there's a term for 2 survivors bonding but it's more like that. A stronger bond than straight up SS. And without the use of dub/non-con either. Absolutely unique in this sub-genre!!

- The H & h are both (very) underage when their worlds collide. This is the brave part. And unique. Both Alex and Ally are captives in this twisted tale, yet it's more of a TPE setup. Alex has all the power - at least over Ally - a dangerous thing for a pre-teen boy to have. The story could've gone down a dark tunnel into abuse on top of abuse. But it didn't. Instead, it was sorta sweet. Surprisingly, I lurved this! It's just so damn unique and compelling and kept drawing me into their budding relationship and characters.

- The whole thing was astronomically crazy unbelievable...yet, I believed in the characters. I fell for their love story like I was cheering for 2 of my besties to get it on (perv that I am ;). And, there is underage sex, but not what ya think. Soooo brave. Loved it!!

The things that weren't overly unique and are essential for me to fall in love with a book: A total Alpha H - protective, possessive, in control, badass when he needs to be, soft when that's required too; a sweetly submissive h - not bratty or self-destructive, strong in spirit and loving nature, loyal; a romance that develops at a steady pace without unnecessary angst; and of course hot sex scenes with no fade to black. Whipping Girl has all that!!

Oh - the title. Love that too. I was intrigued just from that. It's a concept that some historians argue didn't really exist - that a prince/king of tutoring age would have a stand-in for corporeal punishments. I've always found it fascinating, in the psychological aspect of it. And to turn the idea into this book? Brilliant. I mean, sure, I could see the idea turning into a raunchy BDSM type book. Easily *snort. But this is so much more than that - nuanced beyond the expected and trite.

I will say that the twist toward the end was a surprise - not at all where I thought the author was going with this. And that was unique for me too. I usually can see the turns a mile away. No real spoiler here, but this has a (very) satisfying HEA/HFN...just perfect. No cliffy, yet I still want more from this world/characters.

Now...where's book 2?!?!?!

Still a unique fantastic read.

The h is *given* to the H when he is 10 and the h is 6. She is used to keep him line and doing the bidding of his captors.

The H is OTT controlling and jealous/possessive. He is not messing around and I am here for it.

This was a reread and I enjoyed it just as much this time as all the other times.

I don’t typically like the trope where the h and H grow up together. But the dynamics here really worked for me. It feels more like an age gap, even though their ages aren’t that far apart.

Bottom Line? If you like your H alpha, aggressive, dominant, controlling, possessive… this book will rock your face off.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️

- no cheating or sharing

- OW drama - BEFORE the h and H are a couple (the h is still too young) - the H is forced to sleep with women in the service of his job. We don’t get details, but when the h finds out she is upset. The H is devastated but he had not choice in the situation.

- OM drama - the H is jealous of the h’s guy friend

- dubcon - this H is not asking permission - the h ain’t arguing

- h is a virgin and is only with the H

- H is celibate during their 4 year separation

Whipping Girl is a dark romance suspense novel that chronicles the circumstances around the relationship of a couple who's lives are affected from a young age by a bigger antagonist.

I really enjoyed the complex story and the relationship. I couldn't switch off from it.

The story begins when the couple are kids but I mostly enjoyed it from present day, when they were adults. This is only because it was really interesting to see the change in their relationship and how it developed. There's also a lot more interesting things and movement happening in the story. However, the earlier chapters help us to better understand them as adults (especially Alexander). There are some HOT sex scenes, which begin in the present day but before that there is romance and before that, a lovely connection between two people stuck in the same situation. The problem with starting the story so early is that you have to wonder if their love is just based on the conditioning of their environment/situation when they were younger. I'm not sure I'm convinced this wasn't the case .

I really liked Ally. I think she was both strong and fragile, sweet and snarky, as well as brave and able to think things through and act accordingly. I like that she didn't let Alexander get away with ordering her around all the time, and actually it was interesting to see him dealing with that.

Alexander... Alexander... Alexander... I laughed out loud, squealed out loud and cursed out loud through this novel, and mostly it was during his chapters, but I went between absolutely loving him to absolutely loving to hate him, to being completely disgusted by him. I swung like a pendulum between those three states. And, while I recognize that he is an alpha through and through, I found him to be unreasonably obsessive to point of trigger behavior. However, this isn't a sugary sweet tale. Alex is an anti-hero but not of his own choosing and I understand that he is a product of the things he went through.

He was a very interesting and complex character. He was too obsessive for me to enjoy his alpha-ness other than to see what would happen next, which was fine as I was very much caught up in the story, but the fact that I had strong feelings about him and his impact on the story is what has resulted in my rating for this book.

Whipping Girl is a great read for anyone that likes a fast-paced, dark romance story with twist and turns, humor and mystery, love and reward after painful, heart-wrenching suffering. This is the kind of story that will stay with you a while after you read it.

4-4.5 Stars SPOILERS BELOW

First read by this author and I will definitely be back for more in the future! I thought the story was written great, it flowed fairly smoothly and yes, although some big jumps in time it was warranted or else it could have been too long for their journey, I loved the characters including the secondary ones, well almost all of them......

If you love extreme OTT alpha males then Alex is for you. Some of my safety gang peeps may not like some of the things he had to "do" in order to ensure Ally's safety and I did NOT like them either but I guess I understood it..doesn't mean I liked it BUT if not for that it could have been even better. The one thing about any other woman encounter, it was all PRE couple stage but yet I didn't like it and I found that it was brushed over too and that I didn't like.

At times, as much as I loved Alexander, hmmmm, I wasn't happy with his dominating ways with Ally, she was actually way too nice and forgiving...Me, I would have liked to see her stand up to him especially about his past digressions and make him grovel HARD!

All in all this was a great story and it sure kept me on my toes. Not a dull moment and I cannot wait to read about Molly and Zeke, hopefully, they are getting their own story! FANTASTIC Epilogue.

DNF’ed 57%, page 209

IDK, maybe I’m in a rut. All I know is I’m having the worst luck with finding a good book here lately.

I really should have known when I was introduced to the MMC, Alex, at 6 years old and he was “talking” (as it was 1st person POV) 🚩like a professor of child psychology, that maybe this wasn’t a good idea. 🚩Or when he was given his “Gift” of a six year old girl at the age of 10 and was vowing to protect her from all harm or evil 🤔… 🚩or them planning their future with marriage and children at age 8 and 12 🙄… I should have known! But since I had DNF’ed two other books in a row— I ignored ALL the red flags and kept reading, trying to give it a fair chance. At the age of 16 he was forced to learn how to have sex with other women and I suppose this was kinda good??? Because he thought Ally, the FMC was too young (& he was 100% correct, as she was only 12) but he kept sleeping with them to “protect” Ally, as they would have punished HER if he disobeyed. When Ally finds out, at the age of 15, that he’s sleeping with other women (and has been refusing to sleep with her) she’s understandably devastated because they’re supposedly in love. At this same time, Alex defies a direct order from the Organization and Ally is whipped for the very first time, unleashing a rage in Alex and he decides it’s time to get Ally out of the complex and away from the Organization. This leads to a separation of 5 years. When they’re reunited, the author wrote Alex as if he were a completely different person. And get this— they have sex for the very first time three times in a row and the next morning when he wants to “punish” Ally for disrespectful behavior, he tells her that since her pu$$y has to be sore, he’ll be considerate and f*ck her somewhere else and precedes to have anal sex with her, complete with a “relentless rhythm” and all AND of course she gets off to it! I’m convinced that there are authors out there writing with confidence about things they have never even experienced and don’t understand how ridiculous it makes them look. And that’s all I’m going to say about that. 😬
At this point, the plot has completely run its course— the villain from the beginning has long been dead, Ally and Alex have been reunited, and the biggest conflict they have to face is them arguing over the other one being too friendly with the opposite sex and there’s still 43% left in the book. I’m just not interested in hanging on until another plot point can be found. This book has been full on ridiculous, not to mention full of typos, and the author continuously uses ‘woman’ as plural and ‘women’ as singular.

Maybe I’ll get lucky with the next book I try to read, but this one certainly wasn’t the breath of fresh air I was hoping it would be.

“Ally tells me that you’ve been good friends.” I say with a forced smile. It’s a statement more than a question. I want him to know that I trust what she tells me but that I am questioning his intentions. He clears his throat before speaking.

“Yeah. She’s great. We’ve, uh, been friends for about a year.” He smiles uncomfortably at Ally after he answers.

“She hasn’t told me how you met though, Joshua. Care to share?” Ally reaches for my thigh, pinching the skin lightly but it just makes me smile as I keep my eyes on the boy.

“It’s just Josh.” He swallows. “We met at a Halloween party last year, she helped me clean up after I tipped a table over with a bunch of pumpkin desserts all over it... that’s why she calls me ‘Pumpkin’.” They both laugh at that. I clench my teeth at their adorable inside joke but keep the smile on my face.

“And why do you call her ‘Sweetheart’?” They laugh again. I hate him. “Well, obviously because she’s a sweetheart.” He says it like I’m stupid for questioning that, like I don’t know exactly how sweet she is. Fucker.

“Do you want to fuck my girl, Joshua?” I ask bluntly. Done playing games.

“Alexander!” Ally gasps. I can see Molly and Zeke staring open mouthed in my peripheral but I keep my eyes on Joshua as he gaps at me like a fish…

I loved the story of these characters as kids. The bond between them was beautiful. However, when they became adults, I liked the characters less. I found the H to be too aggressive and his attitude was OTT. I hate a H that gets mad at the h; making statements such as, "Watch your tone with me," and "Don't talk back." He didn't allow her or her family any say. There is a scene where he punishes her which really bothered me. Also, an intimate scene while it's her time of the month. Yes, the H was jealous, obsessive, caveman, and protective but he didn't come across well enough for me to enjoy it. There was an annoying loud mouth BF which is a trope that really needs to end.

Alexander and Allyanna have a story to be told.

Quite a far k story but beautifully told by LJ.
The orientation is a good solid build up into a steamy erotic tale.

A great read if you enjoy the darker side - especially full blown erotica with a delightful love story thrown in to the mix.

When Ally and Alexander realise their sexuality and bring it into their relationship the pages of the book really smoke.
Smaller Allyanna - larger Alpha Alexander - passionate and romantics but always erotic!
Can't wait for the next book.

Finally, my first book of 2017 that is going on my favorite shelf!!! I have no idea how I found this book, probably on a list, but I'm so glad I did! I loved every word. I'm a fan of stories that are different...and this was different.

The story of Alex (Member of the Guard) and Ally (Alex's gift). As a child, Alex was in training to become an elite assassin. In order to keep the potential elite assassin's in line they were given a gift. Alex's gift was Ally. The relationship buildup between Alex and Ally was so deep, I felt everything for them. I was heavily invested in their future. I got it, I got them. Alex was so possessive of Ally, and it all made sense. Some readers may not like it, but given how they started, how he was trained, it worked for them. Kudos to L. Jacobs for not weakening Alex's character by turning him into a good guy. It made the story all the more plausible. He was what he was, and I loved it! Ally was just perfect for Alex. She was so sweet and clutched to Alex like a second skin.

Alex's character made this book (reminded me of Sebastian from Skals series). I love an anti-hero, but he was still a bit different. He was fierce when it came to protecting Ally. While he was controlling, possessive, dominant, sexy, obsessive...you knew he loved Ally and would do anything for her. Just a different kind of beautiful love story.

The drama in the book was interesting and kept me entertained and thinking. This gave me everything I needed. The epilogue left me in a very good place. I did not have any unfinished questions. I was engrossed in this book from the very beginning and could not stop until I finished it. If I'm bored and looking for a re-read, I would definitely reach and pick this one up again.

Bravo!! But seriously, when is the next book coming out? Please focus and write faster!!

Great potential for this author.
The hero is a real crazy, jealous, obsessive alpha male just like I love them ;)
I like their relationship especially when they were young I would I like for their emotional bond to be as strong when they were adults. With a more profound descriptions of their feelings and emotions it will have been an amazing reading.
I will certainly read L.Jacobs next book
