Can Lucy and Andrew heal each other? And will they realize what they truly desire before it’s too late?
Echoes of a Highlander is the third book in The Arch Through Time romance series. Each book can be read as a standalone novel.
Katy Baker was born in London to an English mother and an American father. She grew up a stone's throw from Hampstead Heath which remains one of her favourite places in the world. During her twenties she spent several years living in San Francisco where she developed an abiding love of bagels before returning to her beloved London. She lives in south London with her husband and a very grumpy bulldog.
Katy's books explore the intricacies of human relationships with plenty of spice thrown in. What would life be without a little spice?

Lucy Jennings is down on love finding solace in her music and dreams of getting her big chance. She's playing on a street corner when she meets an eccentric old woman and plays a song for her. The woman's name is Irene MacAskil and tells her to watching for her chance and be sure she takes it because she may save a life and find her heart's desire. When a chance comes out of the blue for Lucy to play with an orchestra in Scotland she immediately takes it. One event is in an ancient castle and she follows Irene after seeing her in the audience. Lucy winds up going through an arch and finds herself thrown back 500 years. Upon her arrival she finds a man with three horses who shares his meal but winds up in trouble when Andrew Harris finds them because the man is a horse thief. When the man escapes, Andrew takes Lucy to his home until her innocence can be determined. Andrew himself is a tortured soul haunted by memories of his family who died in a fire for which he blames himself. As Andrew and Lucy begin to form a relationship, will he let the past go or will he lose Lucy.
This was a wonderful book and a great addition to the series. The characters are in-depth with both flaws and wonderful characteristics. I highly recommend both the series and this book.
This Time traveler has a bit of a twist. We have some interesting characters and a good story plot. The story leaves more that can be written with the other characters. You will enjoy the fact of the story is a tad different that some of the other time traveler stories you’ve read. Enjoy
I loved this book too! As old as time, love can heal old wounds and make things new again! I love that the time travel arch was left open...possibly leading to more stories in this series? Lucy and Andrew are broken souls that thrown together can they both be mended! Was really nice to see so much entertainment and music in this book!
a great addition to the series love how she integrates past and present and how she fuses the stories of two people in to one. I really hope there are more in this series she captures historical fiction beautifully and takes you back in time on a great journey
Each book just keeps getting better. What more could Katy Baker add to make such a complete time travel romance, I was lucky to have found this series and hope there are more to come. L.
Would recommend this book. Love the romance and adventure. Handsome and beautiful characters and honorable heroes and heroines. Would love to visit Scotland
This is an OK time-travel romance, but I did have some issues with it.
First off, Lucy adapted to her unexpected time-travel way too easily to believe. I think she would have been a lot more freaked out by it then she was. Also, the highlanders would have been much more concerned with her strange talk than they were. They just kept thinking she must be "daft", and accepted her behavior as normal for someone from America. I think they also would have been more annoyed with her than they were, especially when they thought she was a thief. It seemed like they just accepted all her differences too easily. I didn't buy it.
I had a hard time liking Andrew in this one. Yes, he had a tragic past, and he felt responsible for what happened to his family -- but that was no excuse to be a rude, overbearing, temperamental jerk. I honestly didn't see why Lucy fell for him. He did get better, but it took him a while.
A couple of the situations that Lucy got herself into were just stupid -- all because she got angry at Andrew, or he hurt her feelings. I didn't believe they knew each other well enough for his actions to bother her that much, though. Yes, he was often rude, and had a terrible temper, but why would she care that much?
I also thought that this story was very similar to the first two in the series. The h travels unexpectedly thru time, is rescued by a hot highlander, causes trouble with her modern ideas, falls in love with the hot highlander, does something stupid so that she needs to be rescued again, and then everything ends in an HEA. This one did have a slight twist on the time-travel aspect, but the plot was still very similar to the first two books.
The story was mildly entertaining, and I did like Irene, so I will read the next in the series -- but I probably would not continue the series if it wasn't free with Kindle Unlimited. Because of the issues I noted above, it gets 3 stars from me.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
This is the second book I've read by this author in the past 2 days, and I'm 75% through the third. I did enjoy the lead characters, but I'm finding that all of Baker's time-travel books have the same framework, with a few different story lines woven in. They are enjoyable if you can imagine them as entirely fantasy, since the author hasn't done proper research, is using inappropriate words for the time and the country, and there are many editing errors. Coming across many, many more errors in the third book prompted me to read the author's bio. She's British, which explains, but does not excuse, many of the errors.
The lead female is transported from New York City, where the word 'reckon', as in 'I reckon I'll go fishing', is never used. In fact, it's a word used in the southeastern USA, below the Mason-Dixon line, by those who have poor education and language skills. An American would also never use the adjective 'bloody', seen as a curse word in Great Britain, as a curse against the crown. The story takes place in the early 1500s, but the Scottish male lead uses the word 'apartments to refer to his family's living quarters in the castle; the word apartments was not coined until 1645 in France. He's wearing an 'undershirt', and this word was coined around 1640. At the end, the groom is wearing his kilt and a smart white linen shirt at his wedding, but in the bedroom, the bride removed his kilt and he was standing there in nothing but his undershirt. Also, an American would never say 'Steady on!' or 'in hospital.' When cold chicken drumsticks are eaten, it's not possible for juice to trail down the chin. All fat and juice congeal in cold chicken. Both of these stories end in the bedroom scene, which I just consider poor planning by the author. There are many editing errors of incorrect words, which I was reporting on my Kindle as I read, but these became too numerous to continue. I love historical romances that are true and accurate with history, but this author needs to consult with an American editor if she's going to write America and Americans into her stories, and get someone to fact check her terminology. The reader has to overlook a great many errors in the story to keep reading.
Many thanks to Kindle for the Notes capability while reading the story.
Faux historical with the usual sex. There's bad language used by the h in the very beginning which just makes her look crass. But it's over pretty quickly. The H doesn't act very scottish but he does say ye and canna and the usual words in this kind of book. The language and culture are completely modern. There is no real plot or character development. They think a lot about climbing in each other's pants and about halfway through the book they do. They're both whinging losers and I wouldn't tap either of them. Secondary characters are all caricatures. I can't believe this is the 3rd book. Oh yeah, the h is supposed to be American but she uses the British phrases like "in hospital" instead of "in the hospital". When a story doesn't engage me enough to ignore it, this little crap drives me crazy. I know there's an audience for this faux historical stuff, I wish there was some way to designate it so the rest of us don't waste our time.
Love this book. For the third book in her Archway series, the 21st Century woman is Lucy Jennings, a talented musician still looking for her future. Lucy was orphaned vas a little girl and has been raised by her Aunt Helen and Uncle Nathan. Aunt Helen wants Lucy to settle down and get a real job. Lucy wants to make a living as a musician and plays her violin on the streets of NYC.
One day, she meets Irene MacAskill, already known to readers of the series from the prequel and the first two books in the series.Lucy had auditioned for an orchestra three weeks earlier but never heard anything. After her meeting Irene,Lucy gets a call from the orchestra. They want to offer a position as the third violinist for their tour of, wait for it, Scotland. Which she naturally accepts.
Meanwhile, in the 15th century, Andrew Harris, Laird of the Harris clan is looking for horse thieves when he meets, you know who, Irene. Before you know it, Lucy is in the 15th century Scotland, where she meets Andrew.
This book has some interesting twist and turns. You will definitely enjoy it.
Another great addition to this series. The mysterious Irene has stepped in again to find a new couple to bring together through time. Lucy has been heartbroken and seems almost lost, drifting through life. She’s a musician and that’s the only thing that still brings her heart solace and peace. When she’s off to Scotland to join an orchestra, she winds up running into Irene again and following her advice of walking through a window to save a life and find her hearts desire. It’s there she meets Andrew. Andrew also had a run in with Irene who told him that he needs to open his heart and find the way back to the path he should be on. Andrew is miserable. He takes his duties too seriously, he’s quick to anger and he’s yet to forgive himself for an accident. The attraction is immediate but Lucy is also mistaken for a horse thief and it takes time to clear her name. Time in which they get to know one another. To find friendship and love. But there’s bumps in their path and they have to make a decision once and for all of where they want to be and what their hearts desire.
I was in the mood for a time travel romance after watching Blood of My Blood and Providence Falls this week and this fit the bill. It’s a fast paced highland, time travel adventure with romance.
I thought this was okay. I thought the beginning was good and kept my attention but the romance seemed rushed to me. These two did not like each other at all and then suddenly they are in love. I just found the romance not believable, even when suspending disbelief. I wanted more moments between them to build up to the climax at the end.
I did enjoy the setting and the side characters. Plus Lucy herself was a good heroine. I did like that she didn’t let Andrew intimidate her.
Andrew is not a likable hero. He gets irrationally angry a lot of the book and takes it out on others. I just didn’t see what Lucy saw in him.
I thought the time travel stuff was fun and explained well.
Lucy has buried her heart in her music. Trying to get over heartbreak. When see is offered her heart's desire by a little old lady, she had no clue it is in sixteenth century Scotland.
Andrew carries the guilt of his family's death on his shoulders. When he meets an elderly lady on a path he had no idea that she is leading him to the one person who can make him while again. Note he must decide if he is willing to risk his heart to the willful woman that is bringing him back to life.
Both have to learn to trust again if they want to find happiness again. Great read.
I have to say, I expected the “same old same old” when I grabbed this book free. Time travel romances tend to follow the same tropes and patterns, but this one was very refreshing!
The characters were complex and realistic, and for the love of God, it was wonderful to have a hot love interest with 1) no gray eyes, 2) no playboy reputation and 3) a major character flaw to work through. Freaking YAS!
I love the slow burn of their romance and the choices towards the end! I do wish there were a few more chapters focused on what happened because that was a nice twist from the typical and it would’ve been a very entertaining read!
Echoes of a Highlander: Arch Through Time Book 3 By Katy Baker Kindle unlimited purchase Izzie has ended up in medieval Scotland and she knows it has something to with that old woman. Now she just has to find her and make her take her back to her time. Andrew has lost everything and he blames himself. Because of this, his clan has suffered. I recommend reading this series in order. The books are stand-alone but characters are mentioned from previous books. There are 14 bookrs in this series
Well this is fantasy romance so don’t look for any reality. It’s the story of wounded souls seeking resolution. Past experiences that caused personality changes. Together they are more then they are alone but they need to recognize that. There are some shifts in some traditional time travel romance and some of the old rules are broken, so it’s interesting. Reading the 2 prior books are fun since you do get to see more of Ewan and Gretchen. It’s a light easy read with a HEA.
The love story of Lucy and Andrew. Lucy is recovering from a broken heart. She get a offer to play in an orchestra in Scotland. She goes and is send back in time to the 16th century and met Andrew. Who arrest her for horse thief. Andrew is the laird of his clan and has been very stress since the death of his family. Can Lucy save him and his clan or all be lost?
What a great story. This series just gets better with each book. This story of Lucy and Andrew was very intense and I found myself wanting beat the tar out Andrew, HA. In the end true love does win. Looking forward to the next book. I recommend you read this series from the beginning. If you like Highlanders and time travel, you will enjoy Katy Baker's books.
Book three is Lucy and Andrew’s story of finding each other and love through time. This is the second book I’ve read in the series and I’m loving them! There are connected characters across the books but they can be read as stand alone as well. Fun read. Looking forward to reading the additional books!
The third book in the series, which tells Lucy and Andrew's story of falling in love and finding each other over time, is the second I've read and I'm really enjoying it. The books are connected, but they can also be read as stand-alone works. It was a fun read, and I'm looking forward to reading the others!
This woman went back in time. She had a bad time at first but she fund her love and were she belongs. She made friends and a new family. I give this story a four star rating because of this story and the love of a man.
Another fun story involving time travel, where again I am unable to put the story down, and want to just keep reading. The only bad part is when it ends.
Lucy had the chance to find her heart’s desire but she didn’t realize it would be five hundred years in the past. So if an old lady shows up and offer you your heart’s desire beware. Although you may fall in love with a Laird in the highlands.
I am enjoying these books Time travel, romance and the Scottish highlands. I can tell the writer Although writing The character of Lucy From America she uses a few expressions that are definitely British not American. That the stories are good and heartwarming.
I have enjoyed this book. These stories bring a different view to time travel. Andrew got to follow Lucy and she choose to go back and Irene brought her uncle and aunt too. Good story.
This book 3 was just the icing on the cake. The characters and their storyline were spot on. I just loved this series. I hope there will be more time travel romances.
If you could travel through time what gift or talent would you have that would make you a asset? In Echoes, music is the gift that brings joy to the highlands.
