To win a frightened heart, you have to bare your own. Halle Shifters Book 3
Glory has been denying her feelings for Ryan Williams for months. He's beautiful, strong... and a Bear shifter who claims she's his mate. The man is persistent, she'll give him that, but Glory's past has left her wary. Abandoned as a teenager, she's unsure that she can trust in the promises Ryan is making. Everyone leaves her eventually, even him. Ryan only left his mate to hunt down the man who'd shot her and threatened her best friend. He has no intentions of going anywhere ever again, but convincing his stubborn mate that he's in her life forever is proving tougher than he thought. When he finally gets her to agree to a date, he feels like he's won the lottery. Things never seem to go smoothly in the Bunsun-Williams family. Glory has issues from her past that need to be dealt with, and Ryan is just the man to do so. When one of them comes back to bite her in the ass, it will take baring his soul to get his mate to see that Ryan can protect her, even from herself.
Dana Marie Bell wrote her first short story when she was thirteen years old. She attended the High School for Creative and Performing Arts for creative writing, where freedom of expression was the order of the day. When her parents moved out of the city and placed her in a Catholic high school for her senior year she tried desperately to get away, but the nuns held fast, and she graduated with honors despite herself.
Dana has lived primarily in the Northeast (Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, to be precise), with a brief stint on the US Virgin Island of St. Croix. She lives with her soul-mate and husband Dusty, their two maniacal children, an evil ice-cream stealing cat and a bull terrier that thinks it’s a Pekinese.
This is my last Halle Shifters book. I've read all of the related books up to this point, but I'm done.
The books started as fairly simplistic shapeshifter romances with a modicum of plot with Emma and Max's story. That worked. There was hot sex and a little tension/violence to add some plot. Over time, however, the series has shifted, adding more and more action/violence, and cutting back on the romance. I feel like the author is trying to follow Shelly Laurenston's example of mixing shapeshifter romance and humor, in an on-going series with a continuing action/mystery storyline, but with much less success.
The last two books, cynful and this one, seem to be vehicles for introducing more and more characters to provide couples for future books, and not really developing the alleged main characters' romance. The romantic tension between Glory and Ryan was resolved almost immediately, and then the book just focused on the danger to other characters and introducing characters and furthering poor Chloe's romance. (I haven't liked Chloe since Only In My Dreams and really hate the fact that she's now some idealized mystic.)
And the weird mysticism of the white shifters is too obscure, especially as it's dragged out agonizingly slowly from book to book. The plots are getting too convoluted without the details or gestalt to back it up. As a result, this book bored me. And I no longer want to keep reading about the characters in this town.
As usual, Dana Marie Bell hits another one out of the park with Bear Naked which continues the Halle Shifters series with Glory and Ryan's story. I loved this story and the push/pull dynamic between Ryan and Glory. He was determined to win her and she was determined to resist him...kind of :). The story is dynamic and full of action and twists and turns. I appreciate seeing the introduction of new characters -- Glory's siblings -- who will seem to have a major role in future stories, specially Hope. I also love the twists that Bell through into the story such as Barney's mate. That is going to be one hilarious story to see how that plays out. And, also Jamie Howard and Hope. What does it all mean? What does the prophecy about "One becoming three" mean? I gotta know the answers to all my burning questions. Write faster, Ms. Bell. Write faster :).
I would highly recommend this series for anyone looking for a solidly intertwined shifter series with a lot of humor, a lot of fun, and a whole lot of sexy.
3.5 stars - Ryan's inner bear is driving him crazy but he's determined to give his mate time to accept him and not force a mating. Glory is afraid to let the scrumptious Ryan close - she's been abandoned by everyone and has major issues. But when the danger again comes haunting the women of the Synful tattoo parlor, all bets are off and Ryan will do whatever it takes to keep his mate safe and happy.
I liked Bell's Halle Shifters even though the smexy parts are definitely in the erotic category language-wise, these light PNR had enough of a story in between (so I guess that makes them Romantica)that they still work for me. I really loved Ryan, he is a super sweetie in this story, even though it's taking its toll on him, for him it is all about Glory - I don't know how she resists him for so long. Since this is the third book in this series, there are plenty of cameos of the previous pairs as well as almost everyone from Bell's other related series - if they don't get screen time, their name is at least 'dropped' at some point. And Bell is still going strong - she sets up at least two more pairs, moves things along for the next up pair, and adds some new characters to the world as well.
If you are new to the series, Bell does a good enough job of recapping things that have come before, so as long as the mention of a zillion and one characters doesn't bug you, you should be able to start here.
If you are a fan and missed this little short, If you are a fan and missed this little short on Bell's website Bear With Me , on Bell's website was cute(it's Christmas with Bunny's parents - Bunny's dad tells the story of how he claimed his mate. Thanks to Kaleigha of the awesome Wicked Scribes blog for putting this on my radar.)
The shifters are somewhat different in this series than other series, but really interesting. If you are into traditional shifters you might chafe at the differences, but I found them interesting. The characters are well fleshed out, and the storylines extremely interesting. If you are open to a slightly different perspective on shifters you will very much enjoy this series.
Not my favorite of the series. I found myself feeling bad for Ryan quite a bit and irritated with Glory. Once they got together, I wasn't sure how much I liked Glory's complete 180 degree change in her feelings toward Ryan and the relationship. But that's not all of my issues...OK some spoilers below:
1. What is up with the Cynful girls being the focus of all the attacks!?! I find myself wanting the author to find something else to be the main conflict for an upcoming character. Three books in a row with all the same issue of stalker/violence is two too many. 2. Why are all the books feeling so dark and serious now? I mean with prophecies, Julian's issue with Cyn becoming a specific shifter, Chloe almost dying, Tabitha's horrible Outcast story, Cyn's stalker, and now Glory's whole family issues. What happened to the good ole days when Emma or Belle just kicked the other chick's ass? I feel like it's a completely different author. 3. We have met Barney before but I was kinda shocked he met his mate like that and now still has a stick up his ass. His redeeming quality is that he seems pretty funny. 4. What the hell is up with Jaime and his second mate??? The author is clear that sometimes wolves have two mates. Ummm...did she forget he was a Puma? Hope is a wolf and SHE may have two mates but the way it was written doesn't make sense. Not to mention, sheesh, let the guy ride off to grieve or be grumpy by himself for a while. He lost his mate just one book ago and the author is already mating him to someone else. Am I the only one upset on Marie's behalf? 5. Lastly, I have no idea what to think about the whole Jim and Chloe dynamic. The author seems to be drawing it out but again, back to the dark and serious. Now he's a wolf and poor Chloe didn't get to change him to a fox. Pretty interesting that the Pumas didn't give a crap what choice their mates made. They bit them, changed them, and claimed them, Case closed, time to move in pretty ladies.
Anyhoo...long rant and I will be reading the remainder of the series as I love the first five books but I seem to be looking forward more to the short cameos from the original cast than reading the stories of the main couple in the books now.
Bear Naked is book three in Halle Shifters series by Dana Marie Bell. I like the humor we find in each book, the smutty sexy parts, as well as the little plot that their is to keep us entertained. I really enjoy that the author can show us the friendship’s, family love and relationship’s in this book and the series.
Glory and Ryan’s relationship was developed and built through the previous two books in this series. In Bear Naked they finally are pushed together. Ryan is a super sweetie in this story, even though it’s taking it’s toll on him. Glory I’m not sure how she resists Ryan for so long. We do have some action/mystery with a mysterious shifter trying to kidnap Glory and Glory re-starting the search for her long lost sister. Since this is the third book in the series there are plenty of cameos of the previous pairs as well as others from Bell’s other related series. Dana Marie Bell also sets up at least two other pairs, moves things along for the next pair up and adds some new characters to the world.
If your new to the series, Dana Marie Bell does a good enough job recapping things that have come before, but I highly recommend reading in order. You will enjoy the series that much more.
I've enjoyed the Halle Bear shifter series and was looking forward to this story. Ultimately I was disappointed.
I've read the previous books but I did not re-read them prior to starting this book. You need to. This book does not stand alone and the events that occurred in the previous books are referred to without context. The author assumes you know and thus names are flung at you at random and you're expected to fill in your own back story. I spent parts of the book confused simply because I couldn't place a name.
I'm not a fan of info' dumps but I think if a character had a little reminiscing moment or two, giving the reader some context and/or back story this book would have been greatly improved.
The relationship between Ryan and Glory was a let down as well. Circumstances progressed it rather than the couple themselves. They'd just got to having a first date finally and then the plot took over making them mates.
I also didn't like how a new character (Barney) could arrive, have a single meeting and turn around to another and say "you're my mate". It didn't fit for me. Or rather the way it was in the conversation - an afterthought, a by the way.
The bad guy didn't make sense here for me either. There was no explanation other than "he was rogue". Given the whole situation, I needed more than that. A lot more.
Given some of the couples hinted at the end of this story I'll likely read the next book but this one was disappointing.
I read the first book in this series, Bear Necessities back in February of 2013 and enjoyed it. The next book, Cynful, earned a 4 star rating and quickly made me a fan. I grabbed this book when it came out, but then got busy and forgot about it. You know how that happens. So when I saw that book 4, was coming out, I thought that they would make a great double feature.
It didn't take me long to dive right back into the world created around three female friends who run a tattoo parlor. Glory has powder blue hair, is about the size of a minute, but acts like she's 10 feet tall. She has spunk and sass and attitude to spare. She was a great secondary character, but now that's she gets her own story, we get to know the real Glory. Let me give you a hint: We hadn't even begun to scratch the surface on Glory. She was fun.
Ryan, for the most part, is your average bear. I liked him, but this story - for me, was all about Glory and her dealing with her issues. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the story. There was some nice action, some suspense and some "say what?" moments that kept things lively. But overall, a 3 star read.
I'm very fond of reading shifter romances and I usually give them higher ratings than other book genres but I actually really liked Bear Naked.
Ryan was an adorable hero. He found out Glory was his mate two books ago but due to her issues, he hasn't claimed her yet so he set off on winning her heart first. Glory was a fine heroine, too, though compared to the two previous heroines, she's physically the weakest. I liked it that when she let Ryan in, she really let him in.
In this book, a lot more characters got introduced and turned into shifters and I'm excited for the next book in this series. I really hope the next one is about Chloe and Jim. Chloe's speech problems are kinda funny and I'm really intrigued about the white fox thing and after all that she's been through, she deserves her HEA.
Continuing saga of Halle Pumas/Pocono Pack - hard to say where it is in the series because there’s been alot of cross-breeding (pun intended. I'm invested enough in the series that I keep buying it, even if I haven't really connected with the latest couples.
Bottom line, I think the overall story is stronger than the individual romance and that seems to happen alot as the world becomes bigger than the individual romances in it. I didn’t mind the MCs, but I liked Ryan more than I liked Glory - she was way harsh on him, even if I got why she was so closed off. But the overall story, and the next ones up intrigued me more than Ryan/Glory did.
If you’ve never read this series, this wouldn’t be the one to jump in on it, but if you have there’s enough going on that I think you can enjoy the book.
It took me a while to get into this book. Possibly because it's been quite a while since I read the last in the series so I couldn't recall a lot of what had happened and trying to remember all the characters who popped in was exhausting. Probably could have re-read the previous book but am usually too impatient. So. Glory. Just wanted to smack her around the head in the first part of the book. A-nnoy-ing to say the least but she did eventually grow on me towards the end. Ryan? What can I say. Gorgeous, patient, kind, sexy, fun loving. Perfect.
Lot's happening in this book with hints for future story lines and characters. Looking forward to Chloe's book - she's such a sweetie.
I didn't think I would like this story as much as I did because I didn't like the way Glory treated Ryan in the other books. Thankfully we didn't see much of that in this book. Glory finally started to acknowledge the chemistry and connection between her and Ryan so the book was a pretty good read. I think what I like most about this series is the deep connections between all of the characters. It is like a big happy dysfunctional family!! On to the next one..lol
Things are getting so complicated. I cant say much about this book without giving spoilers but all the family coming in and the Halle pack and other packs things are getting complicated.
And they are no closer to knowing what's really going on. It's a little frustrating to read. I mean how many time can a person get kidnapped and shot in their life??
couldn't put it down it was quite funny. And glory was super grover lol. Ryan was possessive but in a cute cuddly bear way. It ended sort of abruptly keep expecting the father to show up. But maybe in her sister book. ;)
Disappointing :( The plot was rushed and issues resolved too quickly, which is hard to elaborate on without spoiling the plot completely for you! There just didn't seem to be much depth to this story and I felt as though more explanation was needed, particularly with Glory's family.
I Loved this book. I could not put it down. Tenderness, laugh out loud funny, sexy hotness I am telling you this book has it all. Ms Bell is definitely one of todays best authors.
This book was a fun, highly entertaining read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Bunny and the rest of the characters in book. D M Bell is a very talented author and I love her writing style.

What can I say about BEAR NAKED? That's easy: Bravo Ms Bell. Bravo!!! Another fantastic read.
BEAR NAKED is about Glory and Ryan and starts with Glory finally agreeing to go on a date with Ryan. I say finally because he's only been trying for about a year since discovering she's his mate.
It's on that first date they realise Glory has a stalker, and somehow (I'm not sure how) they come to the conclusion it has something to do with Glory's twin sister Hope, who went missing (presumed dead) several years ago. Together with the help of family, friends and the community, they're able to determine who's behind the most recent attacks in Halle and solve a cold case. The original threat that started in Bear Necessities remains unsolved and is clearly working up to a big finale given the characters that are arriving in the once quiet town.
I have been following Ms Bell since September 2010 after reading BEAR NECESSITIES, book 1 in this series. It was love at first read. The humour. The characters. The hot sex. And that scene on the bike? Phwoar.
I quickly realised I'd missed something with that book, so after checking out her website, I found there was a whole series that came out before BEAR NECESSITIES. Two days later, I went and bought all five books in her Halle Puma series. I did not regret it and I doubt you will.
These series are one of my favourites, so much so that I don't care that it costs me $5.00 per book and it'll be finished in a few hours. As soon as I see a new book out, it's bought and paid for.
If you haven't done so already, I recommend reading the Halle Puma series and books 1 & 2 in this series before reading this book. This is not a stand-alone and as the series goes on it refers more and more to characters and events from the previous books. While reading the Poconos Pack series is not vital to the two Halle series, I would still recommend reading it. You never know when they might intersect in a big way.

Any woman would be eager to be Ryan Williams’s mate. Any woman but Glory Walsh. The sexy bear shifter is beautiful, strong and persistent, she’ll give him that. But Glory’s past taught her one simple truth: people leave. She can’t get past the fact he left her once before. Okay, so he had a good reason, and he did come back. Try convincing her emotions. When Glory finally agrees to a date, Ryan feels like shouting hallelujah. He only left his mate to hunt down the man who’d shot her, but convincing the stubborn woman she has a permanent place at his side is tougher than he thought. Their date takes a turn for the bizarre when Glory thanks Ryan for the series of romantic gifts—gifts Ryan never sent. It seems her past is coming back to bite her, and before it has a chance to sink its teeth in and tear her out of his life, Ryan will have to bare it all, right down to his soul, to protect the woman he loves. Even from herself.
Heather's Notes This story felt longer than the others, but maybe it was just because I had less time to read so it took me longer. I enjoyed the story, and liked both of the characters. However some of the story lines are getting old, and I think the author needs to wind up the story arc and start another. There are still quite a few characters I would like stories for but I think they need a new focus.
“Congratulations, cuz. How did you get her to agree?” “I used the Williams charm.” “Oh,” Alex drawled. “You dazzled her with bullshit.” “Exactly.”
Barney waved a hand toward Heather. “She’s my mate.” He sounded as happy as a man told he needed a prostate exam. “Is that a problem?” Barney grimaced. “Not a problem, per se.” He put his hand on Heather’s head. “She’ll need climbing gear to check out my knees, though.” Heather snarled. “I’m not that short.”
The way his jeans cupped his ass… Woof. Glory was going to have to use her handful of paper towels to clean up the drool. - Glory
“That’s it? That’s all you got?” Ryan shot Barney a look that bordered on loathing. “I was too busy trying to keep my head from becoming a piñata to catch his name and address, asshole.”
“But I think you’re going to change fast, just like Cyn did.” “Wonderful.” Just what she needed on top of everything else. A big, furry ass. “Look on the bright side. You’ll be able to open the pickle jar all by yourself now.”
“Don’t even think you’re getting out of this.” He whined, his shoulders slumping. “But Mo-om.” She bit her lip to keep from smiling. - Glory and Ryan

If you like the Bewitched & Bewildered series but hate that utterly obnoxious character then this series is for you. However, be aware.that there are grammatical errors and some inconsistencies. It's funny, it's sad, there is intrigue and strong female.characters. I don't really like.that the men in the book whimper so much but it's not enough to make me not read it.
I like the Hope character. I look forward to get story since she was written in a very real way with the kind of fears and physical reactions you would expect after an ordeal like hers. Solid read.
World Building: A Mythology: A Plot-Twists: A+ Villains: B+ Girl Power: A- Guy-Hero: A+ Love-Interests: A+
For you clean-readers: this book DOES have mature content. You'll need to do some self-editing or scene-skipping to read this one.
This was an excellent continuation to a shifter/true-love-soul-mates series of books. I love that in this universe there are several different varieties of shifters.
Here that push to wait, wait, wait was from the woman because... she has been abandon before, feels that Julian abandoned her when he goes after her attacker and doesn't stay at the hospital, etc... her issues. Glory takes this way too far, assumes too much, and the whole group seems to never to be able to smell correctly. This is an almost 3 but not quite, 2.75, and of course I'll bump it. Still needs to switch up tropes.
eh. it wasn't nesercererly a bad book i just couldn't get into it. i kept starting reading but after a couple chapters or pages i would just have enough and had to stop. i really dont have any particular feelings about this book i just wasn't into it. :|
I liked this couple together but felt it could have been resolved jus as easily in a novella? We'd already seen so much of their relationship in the first two and not much new was added in this book.
I usually liked when there is a game between hero and "heroine", but I was really annoyed wit her, I just wanted to hug Ryan and send him to somebody else, no matter the issues she had, it was just ridiculous...
