"Comesanas intertwines the age old parable of Heaven, Hell, and Earth into a page turning and captivating novel with gripping characters that the reader will both love and hate." -The US Review of Books Bitter and resentful toward humanity because of her past life, a ruthless hunter demon tracks and claims the souls of her human victims, offering them nothing but terror and death. As her career as a hunter progresses, she discovers that a rogue demon is hatching a diabolical plot to raise an army of demons to take control of Saint Peter's Gate to usurp power. As the hunter begins to discover more about her past, she finds out that the rogue demon is responsible for her family's death. Will the knowledge of what really happened to her family change her feelings about humanity, or will she be dragged into darkness, consumed by her constant contact with the damned souls she harvests?
Dark and daring. Comesanas has a unique style and tells a fast paced and intriguing story. His characters are relatable and their missions and activities reach into the psyche, demanding deeper thought. His books and characters stay with you. I enjoy his work very much and look forward to seeing what he does next.
This book is unlike anything I have ever read. Actually, I would love to see this made into a movie because I would love to see all of the characters come to life. To have an imagination to come up with this stuff is just brilliant and my hat is off to the author. If you are into fantasy/suspense I definitely recommend this book, it will be very different from anything else on the market. Five Stars from me! Oh, this is also Book one of a series, can't wait for book 2!
Was turned on to this book by a friend, not a genre I would normally read but I was curious so.. Magic dystopian thrillers now on my list! The characters were many but the way the author moved between them and their realms of existence and time was thrilling ,kept me on the edge...can't say too much more, no spoilers!, but highly recommend the read! Hoping there's a sequel !?
I was a beta reader, and enjoyed it with all the rough edges. Haven't gotten a look at the new version, yet. Lots of good action, with demons fighting each other on Earth and in Purgatory. An intriguing plot involving old grudges between immortals and new mortal protagonists.
Confidently I can say you will never read a book like this. Saint Peter's Gate is far...very far from my genre. It's violently vivid. Dark..., while the humor is injected into the story line seamlessly, is still dark. Action packed, so never a dull moment. This story is also fairly detailed, and richly texted. (I'm going to blame the later for why it took me so long to read)
Why I say you won't read anything like it, purely the story line, and yes the characters. There are creatures that will surely never leave my mind, and I will undoubtedly wish do not truly exist beyond this plain. How the author brought them to life gives me chills. Admittedly though they all were to be terrifying you could still find yourself relating to a seven foot tall Hunter Demon, and end up liking her immensely. There was also The Old One, or the Angel of Death that was highly anticipated as he showed up periodically throughout the story. Or the three that I found brought the most comic relief and found I liked them almost as much as the others I've already mentioned. Who could forget all the puny, fragile humans that kicked butt and didn't care to take names.
Despite the book having such a heavy storyline there are events in this book that trully spoke to me about how fierce we are capable of being, kind even when faced with great evil, and finding yourself, finding the ability to grow after countless of examples of the contrary.
The cover grabbed my attention and caught my interest....but alas, I am not a Fantasy reader....BUT I decided to 'get out of my box' and give it a try. It took me a bit to get into it and get all the players situated in my mind....BUT, once I did, I truly enjoyed it (until XXXXXXXX (left the spoiler out)..............lucky for you, Mr Comesanas, you XXXXX (took the spoiler out!)) Your detail and imagination are really refreshing! I admit that I had to look up the meaning of a few words ....lol!! I am all set to start your 2nd book!!!!! Thank you!
This is not an easy book to finish. The author makes a lot of mistakes: passive voice, telling instead of showing, way too many exclamation points. But there's still a story underneath. I had to take frequent breaks, but I still made it through.
The main character is a demon serving the Angel of Death as a Hunter - she finds souls due for harvesting based upon instructions she receives, and escorts their souls to their final destinations. But some demons are unwilling to serve the Angels, and they become rogues. One such is Whisper, who seduces women, impregnates them, and then consumes not only their souls, but those of the children. He also gathers an army of Rogue demons behind him for purposes of storming St. Peter's. (I have no idea why the author retained the name of St. Peters, as the story is nothing like in accord with Christian myth).
I had to work hard and force myself, but there is a story worth reading here.
