Two American journalists describe their four-year stay in China--as a working family with two small children--and explore the daily lives of the Chinese, who must continually cope with overcrowded conditions and a repressive, arbitrary government
Published in 1983 when China was regarded a mysterious country, this book by Jay and Linda Matthews is still an example of classic, insightful journalism. It is good historical reference to the Chinese character, much of which is likely relevant today, particularly in non-urban areas. It still is a good read. It would be so interesting if they returned and wrote a sequel.
