You already know a lot about caring for your body. You eat your veggies, try to get enough exercise and sleep, and use soap when you need to. But did you know that a little care and keeping are great for your mind and spirit, too? This book is full of expert know-how and fun ideas to help you bounce back from any setback, focus on what matters and tune out the rest. You'll learn to find calm inside, connect better with friends and family, truly enjoy the world around you -- and be the happy YOU you're meant to be.
I thought this was a pretty good starter book for kids 5th/6th grade and up on how to take care your mental health. There are plenty of fun colors and illustrations that help break up the text and the text itself is succinct and yet helpful. There are also quizzes and input notes from real kids to help keep the info interesting and relatable. The only downside really is that it is only geared towards girls--I know it's by American Girl but because it's mental health, I also wish they could have kept it gender-neutral since we all have to learn better mental health self-care.
Good discussion time with kiddo. Lots of good reminders about self care and love, which will hopefully stick in both our brains for a long time to come.
I wish I had this book when I was in elementary school/ junior high. Very important tips and tricks about self care and taking care of your mental health.
I really liked this. AG has been getting more into the mental health books lately and they're pretty good. No fluffy fillers like reading an adult mental health book. This just tells you what the problem is, how to confront it, and the expected results. It's divided into 6 sections. I will definitely be making a list of the key points to always remind myself what to do.
I got a lot out of this, not a girl in age or gender. I feel like my sensitive daughter will really appreciate this in 2-3 years. I wish there was a boy/neutral version for my other kiddos! It's really great info and presented really well. None of the usual trying to be cool speak or condescension. And really nice visually!
This is an awesome book. It teaches tweens how to really be happy. It gives you helpful advice and at the end of every chapter they give you a quiz. If you are a girl and can’t help but be sad all the time I would really recommend you read this. It even talks about some stuff my brother is learning in school. (He’s in college by the way.)
