Bluegrass Spirits #1

Jesse's Hideout

Rate this book
Tillie Hamilton is the latest person to use her 180-year-old house in rural Kentucky as a hideout—taking her cue from the infamous outlaw Jesse James who frequented the place. The house she converted into a bed and breakfast is the only sanctuary she’s ever known, ever since the old woman she inherited it from rescued her from neglect as a small child.

However, sparks fly when her benefactor’s handsome grandson, Greg Buchanan, accuses Tillie of exploiting his grandmother’s memory for her own ends by claiming Gram haunts the inn.

Greg vows to debunk the charlatan’s claims but quickly discovers the charming Tillie is not at all what he expected. Embarrassed to admit he’s another of the conspiracy theorists she scoffs at, he hides his other reason for showing up at her B&B. But while reading his grandmother’s private journals, he learned Jesse James returned to this house in the 1930s, half a century after historians believed he’d been shot dead.

And yet his attraction to Tillie keeps him torn between setting history right and forging a new history of his own in Tillie’s arms. Tensions mount, leaving his grandmother’s spirit to think her dying wish—something she’s wanted since Tillie and Greg were children—may never come true.

Can Gram and Jesse make the two lonely overachievers see they belong in each other’s arms before time runs out for them in this lifetime?

A romance rich with Kentucky history and two meddling spirits. A 180-year old house that is now a B&B is the main setting that has had its fair share of history over years both good and bad. It is currently being watched over by the spirits of Amelia Foster and the outlaw Jessie James. They are both ready to move on to the next plane but need to do one more good deed before passing on. Amelia was sure that good deed was getting her grandson, Greg Buchanan, and a woman she loved like a granddaughter, Tillie Hamilton, together.

This was quite the change of genre's from the author's other books, but yet you could feel she poured her own family history of being Kentuckians into the pages of this book. The detail descriptions make you feel like your right there feeling the breeze and sun on your face.

If you like sweet contemporary romances with some humor from two old spirits give Jesse's Hideout a try..

I understand the need of Mrs Masters to change genre, write something different from Rescue Me saga but sincerely ,Jesse's Hideout is a nice story, well written but nothing more. Too long, too vanilla and a bit boring. I like ghost's story but even those not made much difference in liven up the plot and also the MC were a bit boring.

Thanks Kally!!

I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant to read this book. It is a departure from the author's previous work. I should have just trusted her. I'm a Kentucky girl married to my Minnesota man for going on 25 years. As soon as Greg invited Tillie to MN in January, I was like, oh honey, you are going to need a coat. I laughed so hard when they got there and she had to buy outerwear at the Mall of America. I did the same thing. I think it's some kind of initiation with them to bring 1st timers to MN in the middle of winter. Lol I adore Bardstown, Ky. If you have never been, go. It is the prettiest small town in America. I saw so much of myself in Tillie. She is a strong Southern woman who knows her way around a kitchen and loves to care for others. I didn't know if I was going to like Greg at first, but then, he starts to become a better father and ultimately a better partner for Tillie. My one grip is that now I am homesick (we live in southern Illinois) and I need some burgoo. I can't wait to try the cookie recipe and I haven't had jam cake since my mammaw died 30 yrs ago. Kally, I love you and my husband says "thanks", cause I really am seriously bugging him to take a trip home now.

This is a different kind of book from Kallypso than what we are used to reading. This is a romance that starts off slowly and builds, don't worry though even though this isn't a BDSM book, Greg does show some Dominant traites.
The History and Spiritual guidence shall we say, only enriches the story.
Tillie and Greg were just made for each other as Mrs Foster and Jesse James knew all along, so set about helping and guiding them along the way.
As with all Kallypso's book it's a decent lenght book, (I don't think she could write a short book if she tried lol). I can't wait to dive into book 2 in this Bluegrass Spirits Series Kate's Secret which is out in July 2017

This was a sweet, with a little edge, read. A touch of paranormal, but not too much, and a sweet little boy, who doesn't steal the show, just adds to the wonder. The book is the development of the relationship between Tillie and Greg, the realities of their lives, and that wonderful feeling you get as things develop in a new relationship

Completely enjoyable read!

I really loved this book. The premise of ghosts intrigued me, and the way Kally integrates them into the story is not your typical ghost story. I also liked how the ghosts had empathy for Tillie and Greg. This is a sweet romance and a total change of pace from the authors other books. I was gifted a copy of this book which in no way affected this review. Now moving on to Kate’s Secret.

We never know how our paths may cross. It could be on purpose, coincidentally, or accidently. We also don't realize how we may be related to each other, as we trace our ancestry back through time. It makes for a really good story though when the meetings do occur and those involved discover it together. Kallypso takes us through one of these adventures with Tilly and Greg. Add in a ghost and an outlaw from the past trying to manipulate the events and you never know what might result. I really enjoyed reading this first book in the Bluegrass Spirits series. A wonderful intriguing romance.

Nothing I like better than a good story that is set in place that is close to where I live. Being from Louisville KY with relatives from the Bardstown Area I am fimilar with a lot of the places that mentioned in this book which made it an even nicer read for me. Once I started this story I couldn't put it down. I was intrigued from page one to the very end. While there were bumps along the road for our charaters in the end love won out and they realized how much they each mean to other.

This book is a great read. Greg and Tillie are unsure of themselves. Greg has his own agenda and secrets. Tillie has her own secrets. But spirit remains determined to get them together. Watch for a couple of plot twists. I look forward to the next book. Love this author and this new series.

I was nervous, I LOVE Kallypso's Rescue Me series and didn't know how I would feel about this new, more contemporary series starter. Could it still draw me in as her Rescue Me series has, would it be a series I could invest in... The answer is a resounding yes! Kallypso has included so many of the elements I have come to expect from her books in this one! This novel will introduce you to real life characters who are facing real life issues along with a couple of meddling (yet totally lovable) spirits who just want what we all want for Greg and Tillie, the happily ever after that they both deserve!

So if you are a fan of the Rescue Me Saga, but haven't taken the leap to pre-order Jesse's Hideout yet, what are you waiting for??? I promise you will not be disappointed! If you haven't read the Rescue Me series because maybe the BDSM elements just aren't your thing...that's okay too, because Jesse's Hideout is not in that genre. This is something totally different than anything I have read from Kallypso, or anyone else really, and it is beautiful! I can't wait to sample some of the recipes she shared at the end.

Oh wow!

Having ready read the Rescue Me series I was really interested to see how I would take to this story. What a story, I loved it from the beginning. The characters are so well drawn it felt like I was right there, smelling the cooking, feeling the emotions and laughing at the comments little Derek made. The historical and supernatural slant to the story was brilliant, and the added recipes at the end of the book have me drooling and writing a shopping list. Definitely recommend.

Spellbinding

What a fantastic story this was. I absolutely adore this book. I loved the characters and their chemistrys. I loved that she went into such in-depth details about the history of the house and the characters pasts. I have loved this author since her rescue me saga series, which by the way is fantastic. I was surprised by this book being such a completely different type of story that she writes but let me tell you she did not disappoint. This author can write anything and make it fantastic. I highly recommend this book.

This is a new series from Ms Masters, slightly different from her Masters At Arms series but oh boy is it good.
Tillie has inherited a 180 year old property from Greg's grandmother whose spirit is still within the property watching over Tilly and leaving her recipes from time to time. Greg visits with his son the adorable Derek.
I don't want to spoil the story for you but the characters are so well written they quickly become well loved friends as I have previously come to expect from this author, add in some interference from two spirits, one more well known than the other and you get an amazing story that I am already looking forward to re-read as I know I'll discover something new.
There are recipes at the back of the book including some traditional ones from Kentucky and I shall be trying some of those out shortly too.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough, the level of research and work that has gone into it leads to a story you'll love

Oh my gosh, I loved, loved, loved this heartwarming romance. This exquisitely written story of two people coming together because of past history was such enjoyable reading. Tillie's gentle spirit, inner strength and lack of worldliness makes her instantly likable. Grag, on the other hand starts out as something of a jerk but his transformation into a caring father and charming sensitive lover was marvelous. The spell woven by Jesse's Hidout is enthralling and comforting.

The byplay between Jesse and Amelia was fascinating. Kallypso Masters has given us a wonderful view into small slice of rural Kentucky and its history. Made me want to take a road trip. The recipe section at the end was such a bonus. Cant wait to try a few of them beginning with the oatmeal cookies.

New and wonderful!!!

Jesse's Hideout is the start of a new and totally different series for Kallypso Masters. Masters tells us the tale of Tillie Hamilton a rural Kentucky B&B owner who's house was once a hideout for the infamous Jesse James.
She was left the house by the woman that recused her as a small child. She can still feel her spirit in the house and has used her memory of Mrs. Foster to help bring people into the house since she had it converted to a B&B.
Greg Buchanan is a architect from Minneapolis, who believes that Tillie is a charlatan and is exploiting his grandmother's memory by telling people that she is haunting the house. He vows to prove that she is lying while also proving that the things written in her journals about Jesse James are true.
I love reading a book that has places that I've been to before, seeing them from someone else's perspective makes them new again. Growing up one county over from the places in the book makes me so happy!!
Tillie is a perfect example of a woman who just wants to live her life as simple as she can and bring joy to the people who come into her life through her B&B. She's such a sweet and warm person, but really doesn't like when she has to let others do for her.
Greg comes to the B&B believing that she is a bad person and learns that she really isn't and learns to open his heart too.
The addition of Greg's young son in the story is wonderful and brings out so much more from both of these characters.
We also see the spirits of Mrs. Foster and Jesse James himself in the story. The transition between the scenes of living and the spirits is seamlessly written and does not make the story start and stop. These two spirits trying to bring these lonely hearts together is so sweet and the story behind why they want these two together fits the story perfectly.
Masters writing in these story is so much softer, but it does not take away from her storytelling ability it enhances it!! I love this new direction and can't wait for the next book, new spirits, new characters and a new Kentucky County.

In love with this new Contemporary Romance Series by Kallypso Masters. It is the story of a girl named Tillie who owns an Inn in Kentucky. Lots of local lore about the nefarious Jesse James. This is a real treat especially since the author resides in Kentucky and clearly did hours of research to make the story even richer in content. Tillie runs the Inn and entertains her guests with tales about possible hidden treasure in the Inn and how the former owner leaves her recipes for baking, from beyond the grave. I fell in love with Tillie. She is such a sweet and honest character you can't help but feel the love she has for her guests. Little does Tillie know that Gregory, who is about to come stay at her Inn for a week with his young son, is the grandson of the deceased, former owner of the Inn. He is not happy at all that she is "using" his deceased grandmothers good name to drum up business. In his head he needs to debunk all her nonsense talk about having Grams spirit helping her from the grave. So from the word go they are at cross purposes. Tillie can't figure out why Gregory is so prickly and he is busy creeping around trying to "trap" her in a lie. Throw in a wonderfully spirited (pun intended) pair of ghosts who are doing their darnedest to get Greg and Tillie together and the hijinks of Derek (a 5 yo old) who is desperate to see a zombie and you will be alternately laughing and crying. This new series is wonderfully crafted right from the start. Oh did I forget to mention the HEA is awesome...Truly awesome.... Sit back and be prepared to read in one sitting.

What a fun book! I've read others by Kallypso Masters, and this is definitely a departure from her Rescue Me series. Much sweeter, more lighthearted, but just as well-researched, well-written, and authentic. Characters were fun and the story was good. Definitely worth the read. And what a bonus - Kally gives us a handful of recipes at the end - I can't wait to try some of them!

I was excited to learn that Kallypso Masters was writing a new series and I was eager to read Jesse's Hideout. I have always enjoyed the depth of characters and writing style of Ms. Masters and I was intrigued by the premise of this book when I first saw it announced. I was not disappointed, yes this is certainly different from her other books, but it was an excellent beginning to what I believe will be a successful new series, taking her in a different direction to her previous books.

This is the story of Tillie Hamilton who runs a B & B in rural Kentucky and Greg Buchanan the grandson of the woman who used to own the house. Not only is it a beautiful old home, history tells that it was once a hideout for Jesse James and is haunted.

Tillie is adamant that the house is haunted by Greg's grandmother and Greg is determined to prove her wrong, he feels she is using his grandmothers memory to string people along. Greg also is determined to prove a theory he has long held that Jesse James visited the house well after he was thought to be dead.

What happens when the spirts of Jesse James and Mrs Foster, decide to team up to push Tillie and Greg together?

Ms. Masters description of rural Kentucky was so amazing that I felt at times I was actually there.

This book just flows on so many levels; it is hard to do it justice. There was so much happening in the book I don’t quite know where to start. I often wonder how Ms. Masters comes up with the story lines for her books; each book just seems to get better and better.

I was so engrossed in the book that I did't want to put it down. Congratulations Ms.Masters your new Contemporary Romance series is off to a flying start. This is one book that I highly recommend you purchase and read as soon as you can. Be prepared though for one amazing read that will leave you wanting more.
