In Strala Yoga, Tara Stiles explains the origin and philosophy of this feelings-based style of yoga. Strala isnt about strict poses; its about your body and your abilities. By moving how it feels good to move, readers will not only get a great workout but also release stress and open the door to creativity.
Tara Stiles is the founder of Strala, the revolutionary approach to being, moving and healing. Strala is practiced in more than 100 countries, and thousands of Guides are leading Strala classes daily around the globe.
Tara has authored several best-selling books including Yoga Cures, Make Your Own Rules Diet, and Strala Yoga. Tara is married to Strala co-founder Mike Taylor and they enjoy practicing yoga and spending time in nature with their daughter Daisy.
Tara Stiles was the person who got me into seriously practicing yoga.
She was one of my first, and always favorite, yoga teachers. She’s the person I’d recommend to anyone who who wants to try yoga. Even now, as I have been abandoning the mat for asphalt, I still enjoy hearing her voice in my practice.
“When you’re ready.”
This book is a printed form of that magical voice of hers. Never rushing. Always creating space within. And occasionally challenging my internal editor.
“It’s ninja stuff, really.”
“I hope you feel okay and nothing is too wonky.”
(Who edited this?)
I read the book through a resting period. On one side, it exacerbated my laziness to START moving. On the other, when I managed to get moving, it vibrated in my breath, where it held me steady and open through practice.
“High-level performance of all sorts, mental and physical, is always accomplished with ease.”
Lately, I have been exploring various approaches to yoga, and I came across Tara Stiles and Strala. In this book, Stiles chronicles the evolution of her yoga journey and eventual setup as Strala Yoga. She shares some interesting insights into tension and ease and emphasizes the fun parts of the practice of asana. The sequences themselves are not much different than those I have seen in other popular yoga books, but I imagine the experience of being in one of Stiles' classes is probably where her unique style comes in. Overall, this is a fun book that seems to celebrate the practice of asana and its benefits.
5 stars for the amazing concept of strala yoga and easy, thoughtful read. I just wish it was easier to follow along with the practices... They're great practices, but there's no way you can read the book and do the practice at the same time. I still recommend reading the book if you are at all interested in yoga - this is a great approach, Tara stiles is a fantastic guide, and the philosophy easily bleeds into other areas of life.
Strala Yoga book is a must read and a must have for everyone interested by yoga at home, by the movement in yoga, or just by the Strala Yoga, created by Tara Stiles.
After a short autobiography, in which Tara Stiles explains how she came to create the Strala Yoga, she explain what are the magic ingredients to the Strala Yoga : the breath-body connection, the natural movement, and the importance of the intuition in our practice. She give a few routine to energize, relax, and just practice the basics, and 2 programs to add a little of strala in our daily life.
I didn't learn anything, since I mostly practice Strala Yoga, but it still good to go into the strala style in depth !
I loved the IDEA of this book but I found it very difficult to actually use as the pictures were extremely small. The ideas are good but I do better with charts (such as the Get Started Guides at the end) than tons of reading with very small pictures. . . This needs to be a DVD.
I really liked this book. In it, Tara Stiles explains what Strala Yoga is and the principles surrounding it. She also provides various Yoga routines to do and follow. At the back is a getting started plan. I really liked the ideas behind Strala yoga and how it's about your own intuition and knowing your own body.
