Non si vuol però negare che talvolta Seneca si diffonde più del dovere in alcune questioni frivole, sebbene il faccia collo scopo di censu rarle, che spesso è soverchiamente arguto, che talvolta si ripete, che tratto tratto abbandona il lucido ordine, e fa uso di periodi brevi, sal tellanti, inugriali, che in somma anco nelle Let tere abbonda di quei difetti appellati dolci da Quintiliano. Ma queste mende 51 debbono im putare non tanto a Seneca, quanto al secolo in cui viveva ed alla setta che egli maggior mente amava (a).

Lucius Annaeus Seneca (often known simply as Seneca or Seneca the Younger); ca. 4 BC – 65 AD) was a Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman, and dramatist of the Silver Age of Latin literature. He was tutor and later advisor to emperor Nero, who later forced him to commit suicide for alleged complicity in the Pisonian conspiracy to have him assassinated.
