Sadie Grey, prolific crime writer, fifty-something spinster, and one-time wild child, is threatening to write her memoirs. Unfortunately, not everyone in the UK coastal town of St. Eves is as keen to see the result of her reminiscences as she is so, when she is found dead at the foot of her staircase, the list of likely suspects is a long one. Who was it who would stop at nothing to prevent Sadie's story from being published. And why? As Detective Chief Inspector Nathan Costello and his team have their work cut out to establish a motive and track down the killer, his wife, Charlotte, is busy juggling motherhood with working at her cafe. Thank goodness for old friend, Ava Whittington, who has taken on chief childminding duties for little Molly, with comical results. As the investigation into Sadie's murder gathers pace, long-buried secrets are revealed, along with the shocking reason for the killer wanting to keep Sadie's story out of the public eye. After all, the reputations of some of the town's most respected residents are at stake...
Reading this entire series is a pleasure. It is well plotted with interesting characters. I couldn't help being drawn in with long ago secrets & multiple murders. The ending was so sweet & had me shedding a few surprise tears of happiness!
I was a little concerned about starting this book in the series. Now that Charlotte is a mom. She needs to be careful and not put herself or her little one in danger.
I shouldn't have worried.
Sherri Bryan brings her A-game once again with well-defined characters, a decent amount of humor, and a solid story and plotline.
When local celebrity novelist Sadie Gray announces her next book will be a tell-all from her younger days. Her friends are against it, and will do anything to keep her from writing this particular story. Including murder.
DCI Costello just has to figure out which one has the most to hide, and who is the most desperate to keep the past in the past.
He has some unexpected help from a 9-year-old who is fascinated with computers, and wants to someday become a journalist.
Excellent story. Must admit I teared up at the end. Just the book to curl up and relax on a rainy day in front of a cosy fire. Keep up the good work Sherrie.
My oh my the author, Sherri Bryan, never ceases to amaze me. She comes up with such intricate plots I don't know how she her plots straight. And she never ceases to surprise me with who the killer is. I thought for sure I had it all figured out in this one but no, she got me again. I so love her stories.
