I’m an arrogant bastard—two hundred pounds of muscle, heartbreak, and fire-fighting cockiness. I’m a heartbreaker, and women love it. All except Darla Castle. She thinks she can play with fire and not get burned. She thinks she can keep me at bay. She couldn’t be more wrong.
Brody Here’s the thing about me. I’m not one of those a**holes who don’t realize they’re being cocky and arrogant. I know I’m arrogant and cocky. Now Darla, she’s something else. From the way she looks at me, you’d think she’s some princess and not a barista. It’s attractive, I’ll give her that. And I’ve got something else I wouldn’t mind giving her either. She thinks she can keep me back. She thinks she can dance near the fire and not get burned. I’m going to prove her wrong. Again and again—until she’s mine.
Darla Look up arrogant prick in the dictionary and you’ll find the face of Brody Ellison—my favorite workday distraction. Two hundred pounds of muscle, heartbreak, and cockiness. Oh, and did I mention he’s a firefighter? I never thought I’d find myself in his arms. But that was before the coffee shop burned to the ground and Brody became everything in my life. Every moment with him was explosive from the beginning and things are only getting hotter. But I have to be careful. Because there is such a thing as too hot to handle, and I’m about to find out if Brody Ellison is really one of them.
Smoke is a full-length, standalone romance novel with steamy hot sex, strong language, a happily ever after ending, and NO CLIFFHANGERS.
I have read many of Paula's book and They always pull me in the first paragraph and I forget everything else until I'm done. I love her books and Smoke is an excellent read. loved this book and it certainly kept me interested and constantly wondering what happened next. This story is about a fireman, Brody and a barista, Darla. Darla enjoys her job and the foremen come in to her coffee shop from time to time. Darla has a little crush on Brody and he is extremely arrogant but sexy. Sometimes, his cocky attitude and arrogance gets him in to trouble. their attraction and chemistry is hot, and continues to push them towards each other. if not for Brody saving her from being trapped in the basement of the coffee shop a fire would have killed her. Soon after, Darla's apartment is bombed leaving her homeless and she moves in with Brody temporarily. While the police are searching for the arsonist for both instances, Darla is fed to the Wolves, and Brody, having been hurt and betrayed by a past girlfriend, over compensates and is afraid Darla may have lied all along and is the arsonist herself, so he throws her out to the streets. This story has many twists and turns, ups and downs and the story compels you to keep reading. I really enjoyed it as I do all of Paula's work and can't wait for her next book. Highly recommend.
two people have been hurt in the past. And now, if they can get past the attraction they feel for each other they may get to be happy. However, a string of events raises doubts for both Brody and Darla. Can they both get what they want without the pain? This is my honest review for a copy I received. once again Paula Cox wrote a very good Story from beginning to end .I can't wait for more for stories
Loved this story! Brody is a HOT fireman and him and Darla fall in love while someone is setting fires and blaming it all on Darla. They are so good together! I started this one and couldn't put it down til the end. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I hate when an author does a short story, then you have to get another book to read more of the story. It's a waste. I don't like either one of the characters and not interested in downloading and reading the rest of the story
This is a quick story with a cliffhanger ending. I felt like there wasn’t much depth to the characters expect that they like it each other. Would really like to know what happens...
Paula Cox did it again. I loved Brody and Darla's crazy relationship. When Darla's life gets turned upside down Brody is her knight in shining armor. After many twists and turns these two go through so much pain, separation and lies. Can their new relationship survive all the Chaos? Smoke is a well written story filled with love, suspicion, mystery and doubt. What a great book combination. I look forward to reading the next book by this author.
rcvd an advanced reader copy for voluntarily providing a review. i loved this book. it kept me interested and constantly wondering what happened next. we meet Darla, a barista who doesnt know what to do with her life. she works at a coffee shop where the local firefighters come in a few times a week abd she has a crush on Brody...the arrogant sexy one. on one particular shift, brody decides that she is hot and tries to pick her up by giving her a 200$ tip to update her wardrobe...well that sets Darla off and basically tells him off. that has never happened to brody. girls chase him not the other way around. darla cant help be offended bc of the insecurities her ex said about her. The coffee shop goes up in flames while darla is stocking the basement abd brody comes to the rescue with her not knowing its him. sad and depressed darla is on the hunt for a new job not to mention she needs to yell at brody for again trying to give her money. brody feels like an ass and decides to make it right. since his ego in inflated she convinces darla to go out with him. brody is arrogrant as a cover for being badly burned by his ex. slowly both darla abe brody are getting closer until more damage is done, and lies are spewed. will it be too late for brody to apologize? will darla ever get to see Brody again?
** I am voluntarily reviewing an Advanced Reader Copy of this book** A few twists along the way, make this Paula Cox book a fast, fun read. Brody and Darla's characters were interesting. well developed, and sexy. Brody, at times was a little too arrogant and sometimes way to judgmental for me, and Darla was a little too quick to forgive, but overall a good read.
