A Rocky Mountain Romance

Rate this book
A Christian Historical Romance Novel

Zeche Reid is on a journey to find himself, and the Wyoming mountain country seems like the perfect place. But when he stumbles upon a lady and her professor father holed up in a remote cabin, his protective instincts won't let him leave them alone. Especially when the father’s haunting memories from the War of Succession put his daughter’s safety at risk.

Gretta Michelly is fighting her own demons from the war, but they’re not anything compared to the memories that haunt her father. The haven they’ve found in these Rocky Mountains seems to be the solace he needs to find peace. Until a mysterious sojourner appears on their cabin doorstep. She can’t help but be drawn to the wild aura that surrounds him, but that strength seems to be that very thing that intensifies her father’s struggles.

As Zeche is torn between his craving to protect Gretta and the awful realization that he’s the one putting her in danger, he’s forced to make the decision he dreads. But when a run-in with an elk changes his plans and Gretta is faced with a danger Zeche is powerless to control, he has to find a way to protect her at any cost. Even the cost of his heart.

A Rocky Mountain Romance is book two in the Wyoming Mountain Tales series, yet it can easily be read as a stand alone novel. Zeche is a character that readers will recognize from book one, A Pony Express Romance, yet this tale is truly his own.

I loved this novel from start to finish. Both, Zeche and Greta were characters I immediately connected with. Their romance and attraction to each other was sweet, yet they had a lot to deal with right from their first meeting. Whether it was handling Greta’s father’s emotional troubles related to his war experience, or facing various physical injuries, I found myself anxiously turning the pages to see what was going to happen next!

I must admit that I did not want the story to end and I hope that there will be another book in the series that follows Zeche’s brother, Ezra.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Rocky Mountain Romance is number two of the Wyoming Mountain Tales series. Zeche Reid goes on a soul-searching journey that lands him on a Wyoming mountain. He then finds Greta Michelly and her father, who are on their own journey to find peace. He and Greta are drawn to one another that leads the two to danger.

I enjoyed this book. I thought it was pretty good. And look forward to the next book in the series.

Very fun read. I like reading about this era - where people road horses and lived in cabins and cooked over fires and this author did a great job of describing Zeche riding his horse in the rocky mountains. Really drew me into the story. Zeche is taken by Gretta the first time he lays eyes on her when he stops at her and her father's cabin in the mountains because of a snow storm. But he feels he is a danger to Gretta and her father because her father goes into rages from being traumatized from the war and he forgets where he is until Gretta can talk him down to present day. Gretta is heartbroken when Zeche leaves. Zeche is heartbroken to as he rides the trails farther away from Gretta. Then he tangles with an elk and is hurt. Gretta's father is out hunting and tracking the elk tracks when he comes upon Zeche. He tends to him the best he can and then the second day he ties Zeche to his saddle to take him back to the cabin. Zeche is in excellent hands with Gretta caring for him. But that just makes the bond between them stronger - only neither one of them will let the other know their deepest feelings. Things are intense as the author has Zeche's injuries so severe you wonder if Zeche is going to be blind. But Zeche is healed. He figures he needs to head out again. But once he is gone, he has a conversation with God and gets the impression he should go back to Gretta. Love Christian Fiction when God is involved in the story. When Zeche arrives at the cabin, he finds things in disarray and a fire still burning. So he tracks the trail of the horse and finds Gretta and her father. Gretta is in serious trouble because she ate some plant that was poisonous and is in a bad way. Zeche has the charcoal concoction that Mr. Olson gave him and gives it to Gretta. They decide to turn around and go in the opposite direction to a town closer where there is a doctor. Zeche rides with Gretta wrapped in his arms. Interesting how Gretta takes care of Zeche when he is injured and suffering and now the shoe is on the other foot with Zeche trying to take care of Gretta. She eventually loses the contents of her stomach because of the charcoal concoction but is still limp and unresponsive. Mr. Olson shows up and leads them to the town where the doctor is. By this time, Gretta is feeling better. After being examined by the doctor, he says the charcoal concoction probably saved Gretta's life and she just needs to regain her strength. Zeche's heart is bursting with the desire to ask Gretta to marry him and gets the blessing of her father. When he asks Gretta, she says no because she feels she can't leave her father. But Zeche tells her how he wants to build a cabin next to theirs for them to live in so she can be close to her father. Gretta is so excited with that arrangement and tells Zeche she will marry him. The story ends before they wed - they are headed back home to Ezra and Josiah and Mara and then off to the sheriff to get married. Interesting book with both Zeche and Gretta getting sick where the other one nurses them back to health - all while having love blossoming in their hearts. I like reading about this time period when you cook over a fire and have horses to take care of and live in the mountains. A very fun read.

BACK OF THE BOOK BLURB

(copied from Amazon.com)

The Wyoming mountain country seems like the perfect place for Zeche Reid to find himself. When a blizzard sends him scrambling for cover, he stumbles upon a lady and her professor father holed up in a remote cabin. His protective instincts won't let him desert them to continue his travels, especially when the father's haunting memories from the War of Secession put his daughter's safety at risk.

Fighting her own nightmares after the war, Gretta Michelly is trying to settle into this rugged mountain land, but her bad memories are nothing compared to the demons that haunt her father. The haven they've found in these Rocky Mountains seems to be the solace he needs to find peace--until a mysterious sojourner appears on their cabin doorstep. She can't help but be drawn to the wild aura that surrounds the man, but that strength seems to be that very thing that intensifies her father's struggles.

As Zeche is torn between his craving to protect Gretta and the awful realization that he's the one putting her in more danger, he's forced to make a difficult choice. But when a run-in with an elk changes his plans and Gretta is faced with a danger Zeche is powerless to control. Zeche has to find a way to protect her at any cost. Even at the cost of his heart.

MY REVIEW

A book with adventure, threatening accidents and daily fear. Engaging characters with histories that may interfere with their futures. Yes, another great read from Misty. This is a great series so far and I'm looking forward to the rest, Misty never fails me.

I had a free copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Zeche Reid leaves his family to explore Wyoming. As a big snowstorm hits, he takes refuge at a cabin with Greta Michelly and her father. They had moved west when her father had trouble overcoming mental issues from the Civil War. As long as nothing changes in his environment, things go smoothly, but the addition of Zeche sets off several attacks. Zeche decides to move on, but can’t forget Greta, so when he gets the feeling that something is wrong he returns to find Greta is very ill and on their way to find a doctor. I found this to be a very interesting, and uplifting book about faith and trust in god, working together, and battling the elements.

Mara's older brother, Zeche Reid travels through the Wyoming mountain country when a blizzard changes his plans. He seeks protection from the elements at Gretta Michelly and her father's cabin.

I love this series. From the Civil War nightmares of Gretta and her father, Antonio, to the adventurous ideas of Zeche. I could put myself in the scenes, sensing the danger when the elk attacked Zeche and the flashbacks that hit Antonio.

Gretta is a brave woman, and Zeche a brave man. Both are headed toward love, that has its storms, illness, and injury. It's divine matchmaking.

Good story but some missing words

The characters were well rounded and sounded like people I would like to know. The author showed they're good points and they're bad points. I was a little concerned that I couldn't figure out where the author was going with the plot/storyline. But the author put it together remarkably well and I was pleased with it. I didn't notice throughout the story the author left order to out here in there which was a little confusing for me. But a little more we editing of it would greatly help.

Zeche Reid never really felt settled at the Pony Express station. Greta is fighting war she thought had been defeated. Can they work together and help each other?

I found this series interesting and a decent audio book. There was a bit too much focus on the characters feelings. I gave this book a three star because of the way the romance was written. It seemed a bit more forced at places. There were some places that it did not need to be. All in all if you are looking for an easy read or audio book I would possibly recommend this to you depending on what you are looking for.

This is the second book in the Wyoming Mountain Tales Series. Misty M. Beller continued witth the flow in telling the story of Zeche and Gretta. There are many ups and downs that the two of them go through in order to get together. The storyline whisks you away from the first page making you feel as if you are in the small cabin with them and her father. Beller's writing is very descriptive. Highly recommend this read and can't wait to see what happens in Book 3!

I was so excited to know this book is about Zeche Reid because I wanted to know his thoughts and personality from the first book. He was quiet and reserved in the first book and understand a little bit more from reading this second book in the series. This book really pulled me in and read it quickly. Some moments on the edge of your seat cheering him on through his adventures. Already reading the next book!!

Zeche & Gretta

Zechariah Reid is exploring the Wyoming mountains from his home with his brother at a stage stop near the Sweetwater river. He stumbles on a cabin when a snowstorm is starting. Gretta Michelly and her father are living in the mountains as he suffers from PTSD following his Civil War combat experiences. Leche worries that he is making Antonio's issues worse.

Excellent plotting and characterization. I find Beller's books interesting.

Sometimes it is kind of hard to read stories in eras and climates far from my own experience, but it was easy to climb into the characters' world and lose myself into their stories and experiences. Mist is a credible author, I enjoy her books alot and appreciate her dedication to leading us into new adventures, romances, and dangers, build character in us through her characters' testimonies, and Misty's love for the Lord is clear in her beautiful stories.

A romance, an adventure and a finding of new friends. That is the story in a nutshell plus the various side-trips that make up everyday life in the mountains of the old west. Take away running water, having no toilet, cooking over a fire and the feel of dampness throughout a terrible winter, and you have the story of hard times. It’s an enjoyable tale and the sweetness of a little dog named Nyx. Enjoyed the book.

I am glad I didn't live in the old west days! I don't think I would have survived what Gretta & Zeche, along with her father, went through during one winter. Zeche develops a love for Gretta. She comes to love him too. But her father & the harsh winter could possible drive them apart? I very much enjoyed listening to Mr. Curtis read the story. He is the perfect man to do the reading. I received a free audible copy from the author.

the story was pretty okay.

So much time with nothing really happening. I like Greta and Zechariah but so much of the book was about people spending time injured or in bed. Author writes well and is interesting even though not much is going on. A lot of thinking by her characters but not much communicating. I guess this bothers me in books because some stories are just based on misreads and misunderstandings. Can’t we have people just talk??!

Love it!

Book 2…just the right amount of angst and drama. I’m glad I finally read this after having it in my library for a while. I enjoyed book 1 of this series. This was just the right amount of pages and story. Some book get a bit too long in the mouth and are dragged out. But this was perfect. I truly enjoy Misty’s storytelling. I recommend this book. Now on the book 3. I just got to purchase it. Lol! ❤️📖📖❤️

Just as wonderful as first one..clean romance

Wonderful and clean romance novel! With such few characters, I was concerned. It seemed that only one thing would occur throughout the whole book. But a couple more events occurred, making this story as interesting as the first novel. And it's a clean, inspirational romance. Doesn't get any better than that! I can't wait to read Ezra's story. Terrific writing by this author.

This is the second book in the series. I enjoyed this one. There was more action in this book than the first. Also, this is the first time I have listened to a male voice doing the reading. Had a little trouble getting use to it with the first book, but enjoyed his voice this time. Looking forward to book three.

Lots of second guessing on Zeche’s part, until God steps in and reminds Zeche of His everlasting love! Misty writes another wonderful tale and Paul continues with a well executed narration to bring book 2 of the 4 book audiobook to life! I’m really enjoying this series!

In the Mountains And By the Still Waters

A time away from responsibility is just what Zeche needed, but in the process of exploring the beautiful mountains will he find what he did not know he was looking for?

A good story

I'm not sure what I expected from this book, it was good reading but for him to leave his brother and the station was odd. Too bad it didn't lead up to the love of the mountains.

Neat story

I really loved the next story of the Reid family finding love. Zeche (what an interesting name!) is given a wonderful gift in such a lovely, unspoiled place.

I really look forward to the next book!

So Good . . .

There are so many more ways Misty can write the following of this series. But I know whatever she conjures up for the reader it will be so good!

Thank you for ANOTHER great story. I hope we see Olsen show up again.
