I grew up in London surrounded by books and with a cat named after Lawrence of Arabia. I studied English Literature at the University of East Anglia and live in Norwich with my husband David.

I'm a total book nerd and my TBR pile is out of control. I would quite like to be a ghost hunter, and I'm a huge fan of a fictional hero.

When I'm not writing, I spend my spare time reading, returning to London or exploring the beautiful Norfolk coastline.

I love hearing from readers, so please get in touch if you have a question or if you just want to say hello.

5☆ Full of Charm, Feel good summer Read

The Once in a Blue Moon Guest House is a beautiful read. It's full of interesting characters, fun, family, animals, love, and a beautiful luxury themed guesthouse.

Robin is the main character.
She is inspiring, determined, enthusiastic and hard working. She's kind and has a big heart touching the lives of the people she meets.
So when she comes to help out at her parents Campion Bay guesthouse to escape her troubles in London. She is in for a shock when her parents tell her they are retiring and she's to takeover the guesthouse.

So Robin decides shes going to tackle the guesthouse head on and decides to renovate the rooms making them luxuriously themed!  As the business isn't doing too well. It needs an injection of freshness.

When Will appears on her doorstep asking to rent a room. You can see from very early on Will is set to make a big impression on Robin's heart. No one knows anything about the mysterious Will. Except he is has inherited the house next door but it's not liveable.

But then there is Tim, Robin's ex. I didn't like him. He was sneaky and minipulating.
Tim sets out to woo Robin... But for what purpose!... did I forget to mention he works in Real Estate.

Cressida writes with such passion, I was completely immersed into the pages. I absorbed every single intricate detail of each themed guest room. I would love to stay at Campion guesthouse. It oozes luxury and plenty of charm.

I really enjoyed getting to know each of the characters. I liked how Cressida spent time introducing them to the reader, as by the end of the story I was fully able to relate to each character. Even Tim who I disliked.

I also want to mention how gorgeous and fun the books cover is. It's definitely eye catching, and captures the fun side of the story.

The Once in a Blue Moon Guest House is the perfect feel good summer read.
It's easy to read, fun, has lots of interesting characters, a love triangle, beautiful seaside guesthouse, friendship, romance, humour. What more can you want.

I received this book from the Publisher in exchange for a honest and fair review via Netgalley.

Robin Brennan has returned to Campion Bay, to try and recover from her grief after the death of a dear friend. But Robin’s parents have a shock in store. The guest house they have run for years is failing and they are looking at retiring. To this end they have bought a property in Montpellier. Robin is able to stay on at The Campion Bay Guesthouse. After deciding to give it a unique facelift with specially theme designed rooms, she re-opens the guest house. But then she meets up with the nephew of Tabitha who lived next door for many years. They place has been vacant since she died. Now her nephew Will is in town. Will he sell the property as Tim, Robin’s ex-boyfriend, would like to see happen? Or will he choose to stick around in Campion Bay?
This started off light and breezy and felt like just the sort of feel good read for the Christmas season, even though it is not a Christmas themed book. But after a while there were too many almost conversation that never happened, mistook many understandings and things that never rang true to me. Although Robin is a likeable character always ready to help someone else, too many times she made stupid or rash decisions. All in all, the plot managed to feel both predictable and yet somehow contrived. I went into it expecting just a light chick lit read but it was so light that it nearly floated away. Too many co-incidences for me to accept and I wasn’t ever convinced about the romance. I think there will be a lot of people who will probably enjoy it as a beach or holiday read. But it didn’t work for me. I couldn’t believe in the characters or the contrivances that occurred.

This was not the first books I’ve read by Cressida McLaughlin. I read the Canal Boat series a few years ago and throughly enjoyed it so, I was pleased to pick another one of hers up again. This one was just as good and in some ways better as I’ve holidayed in Dorset many times and I know the places that are mentioned. This is a lovely gentle read and wraps you in a warm hug whilst you are reading it. Lovely.

I've been so eagerly awaiting "The Once in a Blue Moon Guesthouse" as one whole beautiful novel! I love Cressida McLaughlin's stories and when this gorgeous baby arrived, I really wanted to stop all the people on the streets to show them my wonderful copy.

The story introduces us to Robin Brennan who has just come back home to Campion Bay. There couldn't be a better timing, as her parents have just decided to retire, and so Robin takes over The Campion Bay Guesthouse. She quickly realises that there are things to do to improve the number of bookings and so the guesthouse soon faces a serious makeover. One of the things that brought Robin home was the need to heal her sadness, to leave a dramatic past of London behind - is time going to heal? Also, being back home means old (but also new) friends and ex - boyfriends with some strange ideas - what and who is future going to bring in Robin's life?

I liked Robin from the beginning - she was just this kind of girl that you can't NOT to like. She had her heart on the sleeve and she always wanted to please other people but it didn't make her a doormat, oh no, I didn't have a feeling that she let others use her. She knew what she wanted and she also knew when to go on or when to back away. I loved her amazing ideas, she was so creative and it was often one thing that would make her start and we could see brilliant events as the result. She was enthusiastic, full of drive and determination but she really knew when to say stop.

I adored the descriptions of the rooms in the guesthouse. The designs were unique, gorgeous and so very considered. There was always a story behind each of them and I really loved how much thought and heart were put into them. There was so much heart and soul in the whole guesthouse idea, you could see that Robin is the right person in the right place. And of course we have the lovely community spirit in this book, that Cressida McLaughlin captured just in the right way, and I so enjoyed visiting the little businesses on Goldcrest Road! And, as in all Cressida's stories, there are some animal characters as well, and wow, can she write animals! Eclipse and Darcy, Robin's little cat and Will's cute dog, added so much joy and fun to the pages.

For me this story was perfectly organized for being published as series, but not so as a whole novel. Don't get me wrong here, pretty please, because I adored it, I only think that it was much better suited to seeing the world as series - it was rather on the slow side, and what slowed it down was the fact that every single guest in the guesthouse was introduced to us, and while I really see it working in parts, it didn't work so much for me in the whole story. There was too much focus on the details than on the story itself - in the whole. It also felt a little repetitive - and again, it was absolutely OK for the series, probably it didn't stick out so much then. I also had some problems with Will. I just had a feeling that he let Robin do all the chasing, that he wasn't as interested as she was and that he just went with the flow - it didn't let me to warm to him as much as I'd like to warm to the lovely Robin's love interest. Also Robin's ex - boyfriend - oh boy, was he creepy!

Altogether, it was such a lovely, heart - warming and uplifting story, and I really love this gorgeous, rich and vivid Cressida's writing style. Her words have such distinctive voice and she easily brings everything: the setting, the characters, all the feelings and emotions, to life. The story flows, it is full of twists and turns, family dynamics, old and new friendships and relationships, and this all just works together. Each section of the novel ends - of course! - with a cliffhanger and it was such a relief to be able to keep reading! It was really a charming story, without unnecessary dramas but with enough surprises thrown our way. Highly recommended!

The second I got my hands on a copy of this book I knew one thing... and that was that this book was knocking my new Dorothy Koomson book out of my suitcase, and that this was going on holiday with me instead! Now whether that was the correct decision I can't really say yet, as I haven't read both books, but I can say that I adored The Once in a Blue Moon Guesthouse.

The room designs in the guest house itself were rather unique, and I loved the thought and story behind each of them. As Robin has previously run an event company, some of her large plans for various things in Campion Bay seemed unrealistic until everyone pitched in and they pulled off some great things. There were many guests to the guest house and some became more like friends than others, and they generally were all interesting characters as you may expect from a guest house. I really disliked Robin's ex-boyfriend who kept cropping up, he was a real pain, and I'm not sure who if anyone liked him. Whereas Will the man who is sorting out his aunts house next to the guesthouse, was my sort of guy! There are also two adorable pets in this book, one kitten and one dog. This book is a fantastic poolside read and yet again the author has come up with an incredible book that has some great storylines in.

What a delightful read! I loved getting to know Robin and the Campion Bay crowd. The guest house of the title is a perfect boutique-style B&B on the Dorset coast which left me longing for a holiday and the scene-setting created wonderful imagery that made me feel like I was by the sea. Gorgeous as ever from Cressida McLaughlin!

I just couldnt put this down and im really pleased I waited to read all the parts together in this full book as each part ended with suspense and I needed to keep reading to find out what happened next.

A really lovely story, I loved the characters and the descriptions in the book were fantastic and I could just imagine everything from the breakfasts to the bedrooms in the guesthouse.

Robin the main character is a really kind and caring person that goes out of ber way to make people happy. Shes full of amazing ideas, perfect for taking over a guesthouse and she really makes into a beautiful place to stay.

I don't know how I did it given how much I have loved Cressida McLaughlin's previous two books but somehow I managed to hold on until her third story The Once in a Blue Moon Guesthouse was published in its entirety. I'm certainly glad I did because I don't know how I could have beared to finish a part only then to have to wait months for the next instalment. I loved this new book with it's brilliant setting and wonderful characters just as much as her Primrose Terrace and Canal Boat Café series.

Cressida writes in such a way that has you instantly drawn into the story and soon rapidly turning the pages to discover what happens next. Each section always ends on a cliff hanger and it was with relief that I was able to keep reading on. All the warmth and charm I have come to know and love from the author's writing was once again here in abundance and this time the story focuses on a guest house. The settings of guest houses or bed and breakfasts seem to be the in theme this year for books in this genre just like cafés may have been in the past. Not that I am complaining as this is the third book I have read with a guest house at its centre and I am loving them all. The Campion Bay Guesthouse is the focal point for Robin Brennan as she returns from London to Campion Bay to get away from everything and in doing so she hopes to push her own personal problems/demons firmly to the back of her mind.

Robin's parents have run the Campion Bay Guesthouse for many years and now they feel it is time to retire to France and enjoy the fruits of their labour. Bookings are way down from what they used to be and they believe they have done all they can. What's needed is something fresh and innovative and Robin may just be the person to continue on her parents legacy but in doing so can bring her new ideas to the fore. In London Robin had run the Once in a Blue Moon luxury events company but things have fallen apart and she feels by returning home she is coming back to familiar ground, some sort of security and safety will be there but her parents news provides Robin with decisions to be made or maybe the challenge and push she needs to get back out there and get her creative juices flowing and her talents put to good use again.

I can see why Robin felt at such a crossroads in her life given the circumstances surrounding the events in London leading to the closure of her business. Her energy levels both mentally and physically were low and there comes a point where one thinks do I carry on? What is the point? It was almost as if her parents planned their timing to leave to perfection as Robin couldn't let such an opportunity go as to turn around the fortunes of the guest house with an overhaul, redecorating and re-branding with the new name. I felt the further we got into the story we could see a spark ignite once again within Robin and I enjoyed how she was determined to see her big idea through to the end. She came across as someone who needed something to get her teeth stuck into and throughout the journey or process of achieving her goals she could achieve some sort of happiness.

Two things this author does so well with her writing is setting and of course characters. Campion Bay proved to be a charming coastal village that had a lot going for it and I enjoyed how various characters were brought into the story. Even if they were just mentioned in passing or featured more prominently. Those that got one line made me think could there be more to come in the future from them? Molly from the beauty parlour played a pivotal role. It was great to see her as the backup and support system to Robin when things didn't always go to plan and when a positive end never seemed to be about to materialise. As Robin redecorates the rooms in the hopes of many guests to come I thought the connection between the rooms and her old job was just so poignant and perfect. The themes of The Rockpool Room, Sea Shanty, Wilderness Canvas, Andalusia and Starcross just fitted in so well with the overall themes of the book and made me wish the guest house was real and that one day I could pay a visit. Cressida certainly nailed the imagery and connections throughout the book and more than once they brought a smile to my face and had me nodding along and thinking these sentiments are so true and so real.

Of course a book by Cressida would not the page turner they always are if there wasn't some ups and downs both in terms of the business and of course some romance and here was no different. Robin's ex Tim, a real estate agent, appears back on the scene and from the outset I didn't like him at all. He had ulterior motives and hidden agendas. I hoped Robin wasn't foolish enough to think his charms could win her over again, I wanted her heart to rule over her head. Tim in my mind only wanted the sale of the house next door so he could further his career. Tabitha had lived in number four Goldcrest Road for years and now she has gone the house has been left to her nephew the delectable Will Nightingale. Unfortunately the house is a wreck so Will has to take a room in the guest house. So ensues plenty of twists and turns and frustrating misunderstandings and miscommunication. Time and time again things were taken the wrong way or blown out of proportion. Of course Robin and her friends didn't want a house with a blue plaque sold for redevelopment but I think Will overheard things he shouldn’t have and presented the cold shoulder instead of discovering the truth. Of course if he had done that we wouldn't have had the engaging story this turned out to be. Robin showed her caring, nurturing side with regards to Will and I loved how she was willing to help him out with the house. It was interesting to see a bond slowly develop but then for events and words to turn everything on their head.

The Once in a Blue Moon Guesthouse was an utter joy to read from start to finish. I became fully invested in all of the characters and wanted nothing but good to happen to them. It was great everything wasn't all plain sailing as that wouldn't have been very reflective of true life. It really did come across that the author was enjoying the writing of this story and really wanted her readers to love it too. Long time readers will delight in this story but also new readers to Cressida's work will love this book. It's the perfect summer time read. Not to heavy going that will leave you needing to put the book down but instead it has just that edge to it to give the reader something to get their teeth in to whilst at the same time achieving a nice balance of lightness and romance and of course fun and mishaps and mayhem. With such a bright, inviting cover this will catch plenty of people's eyes on bookshelves in the coming weeks it's just brilliant to be able to say the content lives up to the cover and title. I read somewhere Cressida is working on something Christmas based which is great news as it won't be too long until my next fix of her brilliant writing.

This was such a lovely book. I have really enjoyed Cressida McLaughlin's previous books and was lucky enough to attend an author event that she answered questions about her writing. You are guaranteed to enjoy a nice happy read and able to lose yourself completely within the pages. I'm glad that I was able to read this one as a complete book- as I can be impatient to wait for the next episode when reading them as the separate books.

Robin had come back to help run her parents guesthouse and when they reveal plans to retire abroad she relishes taking on a complete overhaul of the guesthouse. She creates themed rooms that sound absolutely wonderful- with such attention to detail. I would love to stay in one of the rooms.

One night just after she reopens a man appears on the doorstep asking to rent a room because the house next door, which belonged to his aunt wasn't habitable. Will is a wonderful character and the sparks fly between them. They have a great friendship teetering on a romance. Certain events get i the way and you are rooting for them to overcome the difficulties.

The characters in Campion Bay are delightful and you really feel as though you've got to know them. They are fully supportive of Robin's new venture. Her best friends daughter helps out at breakfast time and she's a lovely girl.

Robin was previously an event planner for specialist days that were once in a blue moon experiences and she brings her skills to her new venture but you also get the hint that she wants to make all of her guests have a taste of the same magical spell she weaves. She goes that extra mile to make everlasting memories for everyone.

I was so sad to get to the end of the book and would love another series in Campion Bay one day- as I have plans for Will's house!!!!!!!!!!

The Once in a Blue Moon Guesthouse is such a wholesome story that I know I will definitely reread it in the future.

It follows the story of Robin, who moves back to Campion Bay from London after tragedy struck her in the city. When she's back in her home town, her parents have decided to move to France as they're too old to keep the guesthouse they own running; so Robin decides to take it over and renovate it her own way.

But whilst juggling running a guesthouse and getting it all up to scratch, Robin is also dealing with her ex-high school sweetheart, who is determined to force himself back into her life as well as her new neighbour Will.

Whilst reading this book, I loved the characterisation of Robin. She's a strong woman, with her own mind and creativity, but is still haunted by the past despite trying to move forward. I really enjoyed seeing all the different levels to her character and how she runs the guesthouse and makes friends with all those that stay. Will's character is also so good; he is charming, sweet and gives off boy-next-door vibes, and not just because he is living next door.

All of the characters felt like real people, especially Robin, Will, Molly and Paige. They all have their own personalities and way of living but they also all make mistakes every now and then. Also, Eclipse and Darcy are two very cute pets!

This book made me want to go and stay in the guesthouse and also run my own, haha! Cressida's writing is amazing and you'll fall in love with Campion Bay and its residents when reading - although maybe not Tim!

This is the 4th book I have read by Cressida McLaughlin and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I couldn’t put it down and I absolutely loved the main character Robin.

I loved how the book was set by the coast and in lovely seaside town Campion Bay. It was pure escapism.

I have enjoyed every single book I have read by Cressida and I’m very much looking forward to reading her next book.

I thoroughly recommend this book. It was brilliant.

I am ashamed it has taken me so long to post this review. I finished this book back at the beginning of July and I meant to do the review straight away, but the summer holidays seem to have got in the way. Still, better late than never, hopefully!

This book is one of the exceptions to my ‘buy no new books in 2017’ rule, as I got it via a bid in the Authors for Grenfell auction, so I have a lovely personally signed copy with a sweet note from Cressida inside as a bookmark. I’m really glad that I haven’t had to wait until 2018 to read this, because it is my favourite Cressida McLaughlin book so far, and I loved the first two!

Early in July, Mini Me had one day off school with a slight cold. I’m not sure what evil mutation of the germ she passed on to me, but the cold somehow evolved into the most horrendous ‘flu and I was forced to take to my bed – which never happens because I normally just refuse to be ill. Along with tissues, flu medication and a hot water bottle, I took this book to bed with me and it was definitely the best medicine. This book is totally absorbing, sweet and uplifting and I raced through it from cover to cover. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to read it all over again and it has earned a permanent place on my favourites shelf.

I must admit, I am a sucker for a book set by the sea, they transport me to one of my favourite places on the Welsh coast where I spend some of my happiest hours, and this is a particularly lovely example of the genre. I had a very clear picture of Campion Bay in my head and it is the perfect seaside resort, peopled with a lovely bunch of interesting characters. I loved Robin’s ideas for the renovation of the guesthouse and the themed rooms she designs. It reminded me a little of one of my favourite hotels, Crab Manor in Thirsk, North Yorkshire and I wondered where Cressida got her inspiration. (If I ever get to stay at the One in a Blue Moon Guesthouse, I’d book in to Rockpool).

The main character of Robin is impossible not to like, she is so open, generous and passionate but also unsure of herself, a great heroine to root for. The book has romance in the form of the brooding Will who moves in next door, and Robin’s ex-boyfriend Tim, who is suitably shifty as the local slick estate agent. Throw in a feisty best friend, a couple of cute pets, some fun local events and plenty of community spirit and magic starts to happen.

Although this is quintessentially a romance, what I love most about this book are the strong female characters, making things happen for themselves and not waiting for men to make everything okay. We all love to be in love, but it isn’t the answer to every problem and in Cressida’s books, sisters are definitely doing it for themselves, and the hunky men are just the icing on the cake. This is proper modern romance that will warm the cockles of any feminist who also enjoys a feel-good story (which is okay, by the way, you can be a feminist and like to read romance novels too!).

I loved this book. Cressida’s writing is warm and enticing and leaves you with a happy feeling. What more can you ask from a book? I can’t wait for Cressida’s next one because I think her writing is only getting better and better.

I've been eagerly awaiting The Once in a Blue Moon Guesthouse series wrapped up in one whole package and let me tell you it is one very appealing package! I dived straight in and was welcomed by a gang of lovable characters that made you swoon at the possibility of finding a guesthouse just like Robin's this summer holidays!

Robin Brennan has come home to Campion Bay. Now her parents have retired, she’s set to become the new landlady of The Campion Bay Guesthouse.
Bookings have been as thin as the hand towels, and it doesn’t take long for Robin to realise that the place needs a serious makeover. Perhaps throwing herself into the task will help to heal her sadness at the tragic end to her dreams in London.
As she gives the guesthouse a new lease of life, Robin encounters old friends and new, including old flame Tim, who’d clearly like to reboot their romance. But what about Will, the new arrival at No. 4, who’s rocked up with the cutest dog ever?
Caught up in a flurry of full-English breakfasts and cream teas, Robin’s never sure what, or who, the next check-in will bring…

As soon as I run my eyes down the first page of the opening chapter I knew I would love Robin's enthusiasm, drive and determination. Robin's character qualities shine throughout the pages of this book and make her so easily relatable. Robin just knows how to bring her parents once worn out guesthouse up to a dreamy, luxurious place that everybody wants to stay in on their visit to Campion Bay.

I loved getting to know all the other characters gracing the pages of this book, the residence as well as the array of guests that become more of friends as the story progressed. I got very fond of the handsome and very intense Will, who has his work cut out cleaning out his late Aunt Tabitha's house. But it the hard work comes with certain perks and rather intriguing mystery so Will seem to settle nicely into the charming coast lifestyle and who wouldn't!

Aside from Robin and Will I couldn't get past mentioning the wonderfully caring and tight-knit community of Campion Bay and the delightful owners of the little businesses on Goldcrest Road!

I could feel the warmth and the friendliness radiating through their acts of kindness and their endless support in making The Goldcrest Road the best road in the Campion Bay. And I mustn't Eclipse, Robin's cat and Darcy, Wills cute little dog the twosome added a bit of sparkle to already fabulous and well-paced storyline.

Once again, Cressida McLaughlin crafted a book that epitomises the importance of love, friendship and family.
Plus you can also find a selection of some very delicious recipes at the back of the book! Go on make yourself a nice cup of tea and perhaps lavender cookies in the company of this book! It will make your reading heart happy.

This is a great introduction to this new series. It is a fun and romantic book. About seaside, friendship, old flames, love, romance, family, and renovating old guest houses.

It had wonderful links to other books that the author has written to which I loved.

When Robins best friend and partner in once a blue moon days events and holiday organising company dies at a young age. Robin doesn't know how to carry on with the company alone because Neve would be the one to bring in new clients ect.

Robin decides to return home to Campion Bay where her parents own a guest house. Although once there her parents tell her that they cannot keep up with the rat race and have decided to retire aboard. Robin cannot let the guest house where she grew up and has so many memories to go to wreck and ruin and so with the help of some inheritance from her grandmother. Her friends and parents hard work and determination they update the hotel into a Posh guest house. With each room having its own theme. It sounds heavenly. I would definitely love to stay in statcross and gaze at the stars. Robin is determined to make it a success for her parents and for Neve.

While being back in Campion brings back lots of memories. It also brings Tim back into her life. Her first love who broke her heart badly when they were younger. Being back in town stirs up feelings between them that she thought were long gone. However Tim is a real estate person who wants to change the landscape of the seaside into expensive holiday let's and shopping villages. Is their reunion all it appears to be on the surface or does Tim have an ulterior motive?

Then Will stumbles onto the scene he claims to be a relative of an old friend of Robins family whose house is next door to the guest house. Will is back in town to make sure that his families house doesn't turn into luxury apartments. But no one has heard of him before and the old lady never mentioned having any grandchildren and no one came to visit. Is Will all he claims to be? Or is he just trying to claim inheritance that isn't his?

Robin is stuck in a love triangle but who is the right man for her? And will the guest house be a success?

I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series as I really enjoyed this opening book. I love books about the sea and guesthouses/restaurants ect so this series is right up my street.

I have already enjoyed lots of books by this author and they always put a smile on my face. Great for fans who love chick lit, romance and contemporary romance. Be sure to check this series out.

Happy reading everyone

Robin has returned home to Campion Bay after losing her best friend. In fact, Neave was her best friend as well as her partner in their event planning business. Neave's unexpected death broke Robin's heart. Now she has returned to her parent's guest house and she is slowly recovering.

When her parent's tell her they are retiring and moving to France, Robin is floored. But, after the initial shock, she gets a wonderful idea. She can re-plan the guest house into something quite special. Themed rooms, amazing decorations and a place that is both modern and familiar.

The only question about a wonderful future is the house next door. Tabitha, the woman who formerly lived there has died and her home is in the sights of a developer. He is nearly salivating to get the property and make it the first step in changing the entire street as well as the village.

Then Robin meets Tabitha's nephew, Will. He must clean out years and years of history. He also must decide what he wants to do with the house. He moves into the guest house after he finds his roof leaks and he does not like sleeping under a waterfall.

The story is an interesting one. The characters are well developed.

Robin and Ben are complete people. Molly, is Robin's best friend and along with her teen-aged daughter Paige, they are an important part of this story. The secondary characters add a texture to the story. They are evidence that the village is populated by people who are involved and caring and fun.

The first half of the book felt slow and draggy to me. At times, descriptions of minor details got to be a little much. When I got to the second half of the book, the action moved along at a much better pace.

There were times when events seemed to fall into place very easily. But, this is fiction, so having improbable events was not a deal breaker for me.

Ms McLaughlin is a very talented author. Her descriptions of the sea and the atmosphere of a seaside village made this reader feel as though I could hear the gulls and feel the sea spray.

I enjoyed this book. I would have enjoyed it even more if things had moved along more quickly in the first half of the book. But, that will not prevent me from looking for another book by this talented author.

Robin is back in her old hometown. Her parents own a guesthouse in Campion Bay, but are ready to retire. Robin left London after a heart shattering traumatic event and is now slowly healing. She finally feels she's ready for a new challenge. Her parents are moving to France and Robin will take over their guesthouse. It's time for a complete renovation and Robin has a special look and feel in mind that should make her business a unique place to stay. Together with the help of some friends she's ready for business in no time. What kind of guests will come to her place?

Robin's ex boyfriend still lives in Campion Bay. He's interested in dating again, but Robin hasn't forgotten the way he treated her when they were younger. Robin is still single, but that doesn't mean she automatically wants to rekindle their old flame. There's another handsome man around, her new neighbor Will. Will has the daunting task of clearing his late aunt's house and could use Robin's support. The two men certainly make Robin's life interesting. Will she find love and happiness while taking care of her guests?

The Once in a Blue Moon Guesthouse is a wonderful heartwarming story. Robin is smart and creative. She knows what she wants and when she has a plan she makes it happen. I loved her determination and strong will. She's also incredibly friendly and genuinely cares about people. I liked the way she treats her guests, she makes them feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble. She makes something special of her guesthouse, not only because of the gorgeous rooms, but also because of her sparkling presence. This draws in a lot of fascinating people and I really enjoyed reading about all of Robin's guests and friends.

Cressida McLaughlin has written a great feelgood book. I love her vivid descriptions of Robin's journey and had fun seeing the world through her eyes. There's plenty of positivity and hope in The Once in a Blue Moon Guesthouse, anything is possible. I was mesmerized by the gorgeous setting and amazing main characters from the start and loved every single page of their story. Cressida McLaughlin has written a delicious charming story filled with unexpected twists and turns and entertaining misunderstandings.

Oh, what a wonderful, warm and summery book that was! I really enjoyed reading this heartwarming story about family, love, friendships and the love of life!

Robin, our heroine, still tries to come to terms with the tragic death of her friend Neve's one and a half years ago but when her parents want to retire and close down their family's guesthouse, Robin embraces the opportunity to make their guesthouse her own. A very serious makeover is in order and Robin uses her chance to turn the guesthouse into something special, something as special as a blue moon.

Anyway - Robin's enthusiasm and her dedication to her work are definitely infectious. We are also renovating our place at the moment and I found myself thinking of themes and stars and blue moons ...

Not just I fell for Robin's charm and enthusiasm but Will, her new neighbor, falls for her as well - and he is not the only one. Tim, the "ex-love of her life" and a property developer is also interested but he is not just interested in her but he also wants to invest in the house next to hers to turn it into something...well, completely different.

I loved to read about Robin caring about her guests, touching their lives and making things special and I loved to see how she fell in love, how she was finally able to move forward and to heal from her loss. And I loved to read about Will and - well, let's just say that Will is another wonderful character.

So, this well-penned story with its loveable characters, with things like porcelain sheep and fluffy handcuffs (kidding!) and with lavender lace inspiring the most delicious cookies, is a very charming, funny and romantic read and the perfect choice to read on a nice and lazy summer day!

Another delightful story by Cressida McLaughlin! This author has a gift of getting a reader engrossed in a story right from the first page and this novel was no different. I'll be honest and say that I was really pleased that I waited and read all four parts together as it meant that the story flowed better and I wasn't waiting in between to read about what happens next!

I feel like the characters all seemed so lovely and it made me want to move to Campion Bay and run a Guesthouse! The descriptions in this book are delightful and sometimes you really feel like you are there in the book with the characters. Everything was described beautifully and it meant that I had no trouble imagining a character or a location. The main character is Robin, who you relate to from the get go and when Will moves in next door you really do find yourself routing for them to get together!

I found this book enchanting and really easy to read - it was a tad more serious than Cressida's other novels but I found that even more enticing. As the book went on, I was glued to my Kindle where I couldn't want to find out what happened next!

Overall, a lovely book which I really enjoyed. If you haven't read one of Cressida McLaughlin's novels then I urge you to do so! Thank you to HarperCollins and to Netgalley for a chance to read this book in exchange of an honest review.

What a wonderful, packed read! At 500 pages long this is a full and enjoyable novel, and one which I have relished reading. I suspect that British seaside holidays may be doing a roaring trade this year thanks to the authors like Cressida McLaughlin who are writing such fabulously appealing stories!

Robin Brennan returns to her home town of Campion Bay to the loving arms of her parents. Why? Read the book! There is never a dull moment between the pages what with family, friendships - old and new - relationships (again, old and new) and the terrific scenic view, so well described that you can almost fool yourself into smelling the salty sea breeze!

This is a lovely, warm read - perfect as a holiday / beach read, and one which I urge you to choose as it will leave you, as you will leave it, with a sigh of complete and total satisfaction. A full five sunny stars from me.

I received an arc via NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

I'm going to start one-star/"didn't like it" rating all books which are short stories!

This one I actually quite enjoyed, as it sets up the next book.

But it's so SHORT!

I've started book 2, but it's more like starting chapter 2, as it starts the very next day after Robin opens the guesthouse she sets up in this book.

This really should be all the books put into one novel. Paying for these short stories is ridiculous, and I'm very glad I didn't pay for them. (Friend and I share and swap Kindles around)

It's taken me 5 days to read is, which is ridiculous, as the Kindle tells you 58 mins reading time when you open it, but circumstances in life sometimes cause this to happen unfortunately. I am positive that if I had been able to sit and do nothing else but read, it would have taken me no more than those 58 minutes.

Still not as short as The Great Christmas Bake Off though.

Fantastic heartwarming easy to read novel set in a charming seaside town. A really lovely book with fabulous characters, lovely descriptions and great storyline. I feel as if I really got to know each of the characters. I was drawn into the story and enjoyed the ups and downs. I would love to stay in the guesthouse and liked reading about its renovation.

A tale of new beginnings, family, friendships, relationships and makeovers. Also two adorable animals - Eclipse the cat and Darcey the dog.

Ideal summer reading - perfect for a sunny day on the beach or in the garden. An easy charming book with an engaging storyline. Highly recommended.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I've read by this author but will definitely be checking out her others. This was such a lovely book, straightaway I loved Robin, a really strongly written, likeable main character, following her journey to create her own vision and business was a fantastic journey with highs and lows that literally kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. Her vision is so clearly written that I couldn't wait to see the outcome. Although this is a beach / holiday read it is not formulaic or cheesy, it's such a fresh, optimistic and lovely book. Will be included in a Sarah Hurley Book Club feature soon!

This was a lovely book with a heartwarming story and well rounded characters. I loved Cressida's other book and this one did not disappoint.

The idea of a woman taking over the running of a hotel her parents ran and making it her own was unique and fun. I loved the descriptions of each of the rooms and the way Robin embraces the challenge. Robin is a likeable character and you want her to do well and get the happy ending she deserves. This was a nice summer read and I look forward to more by the author.

Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK and the author Cressida for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a lovely little read but doesn't have the hook to real me in that I was expecting. I thought the location was quaint, the characters all very detailed but the storyline for me was weak.

Having said that, I love books with a beachside location and some of the mains characters comings and goings had me thinking about my childhood holidays by the sea.

I wouldn't rule out reading more from this author and if you are looking for a book that is easy to pick up and put down, then this is the book for you, very light and pleasant reading.

The Once in a Blue Moon Guesthouse by Cressida McLaughlin is another fab summer read. I have noticed that I do read seasonal books. Books set at the seaside and coast in the summer and lovely cosy Christmas stories set in snow and log cabins during the winter. Anyway I digress.
This is the story of Robin who returns home to her family seaside B & B after the death of her friend. She takes over the guest house and this follows her story through the first year of her being in charge. Robin is a likeable character, it has a good plot line and a good bit of romance thrown in too.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! I loved this book.
I loved seeing the transformation of the guesthouse, I loved seeing the changes to Tabithas house. The back story to both Robin and Will were sad and at times heartbreaking, I was touched by Robins friendship with Neve and how she honoured her throughout the book - she will never be gone and always in her heart.
The growing friendship between Will and Robin and then the growing tension had me on the edge of my seat, a will they won’t they? The whole street pulling together was great, and the last chapter was simply excellent.
