Seriously people this book should come with a water spritzing fan. Because you WILL need one while reading this.
While shopping in the supermarket with her young son, Esther locks eyes with a man from her past that she knows very very well. He's also the father of her 2 yr. old son although he doesn't know that. Yet. Then the earth begins to shake beneath her feet. Literally.
In line at the market sensual memories begin to flash through Toby's mind after spoting a woman he had a fling with a couple years back in Fiji while on holiday. When the earthquake starts he notices that she is struggling to get her son out of a shopping cart safety belt. After he rips the strap apart they duck for cover.
Once out of the ruble of the market they see the utter devastation left behind. Toby is reluctant to leave Esther but compelled to help others who may be trapped. He tells her he is going to start to look for people and asks..
“How will I find you again?” “I’ll find you,” she said. She must have seen the wariness in his face, because her expression softened. “I promise.” His gaze fell to Charlie. “Is… is he mine?” She swallowed. Then she gave a small nod.
After seeing Toby and admitting that her son Charlie is his she is hit with a barrage of emotions. Her parents are both gone. Charlie is the only one she has. Esther has always been fiercely independent. Depending on no one but herself to get by. But now that Toby knows about Charlie, what will happen? Does he want to step up and be a dad?
Esther keeps her word, she finds Toby and they walk to her place to find it destroyed. Toby offers her and his son, Charlie, a place to stay and she accepts. Soon the magnetic charge these two have for one another fills the room with thick sexual tension. And that tension escalates when Esther finds the Naughty Nights Game in Toby's bedroom.
Naughty Nights is a card game that has it's players role play a sexual scene written on the card. Wanting more time with both Esther and Charlie. Toby invites Esther to fly back home with him where he will be attending a friends wedding. She agrees to her and Charlie staying with him for a week. Of course they also agree to play the Naughty Nights Game during that week as well. **wiggles eyebrows suggestively**
Role playing games of pleasure unleash feelings these two both held for each other but never made good on after Fiji.
How long can they continue to play this game thinking that at the end of the week they'll be able to walk away from each other? Again. And how long will Esther keep her secret concerning Charlie's birth from Toby?
If you are a smut lover I highly recommend this! Along with the smut we get a guy, Toby, who seems to never measure up.. Well, at least that is he never measures up as far as his friends and family is concerned. Those insecurities play a big role in his decision making and unfortunately he makes some bad ones.
Then there is Esther she is young and ambitious. After wanting more from Toby in Fiji she takes his non acceptance for a relationship as a slap in the face. It's hard for her to move past it... Eventually she does but not before admitting some things that she know will hurt him.
My Thoughts The sex scenes in this book was scorching hot!!! The writing was good we get great character interaction, witty commentary, and lot's of sexy moments. I felt the sex did not overwhelm the story which I know can be a problem for some people, so no worries there.
Dear readers, If you are looking for something sexy and lighthearted with some very steamy love scenes then this book is for you.

Second chance romance! Awwww Toby!!! When we met Toby in Mr. Sinful, there was just something about him. I was so pleased to see that he had his own book and oh what a book it is.
I was moved to tears at a couple points. Charlie is just the cutest and he added so much to the story.
I sympathized with Esther and I found her decisions following the idyllic holiday in Fiji quite realistic. I would have and in fact have behaved in the same manner.
The whole gang from Mr. Sinful is back! What a great group of friends. Toby's family was also a plus. I loved the conversation in Latin. What a great way to speak in code in plain sight.
This is a book that I will read again. The chemistry was off the charts between the protagonists. I loved it.
Toby hasn't seen Esther since they had a magical fling on a holiday 3 years ago, he always regretted not keeping in contact with her but was never able to track her down until now when he bumps into her in a supermarket. It comes as quite a shock to see her with a 2 year old boy, a boy who looks just like him! Their reunion is interrupted by an earthquake and Toby saves both Esther and her son Charlie's lives, when he discovers that their home has been destroyed Toby immediately offers to take them in. He wants a chance to get to know his son and Esther is unable to refuse him. The attraction between Toby and Esther hasn't cooled in the years since they last saw each other but can they find a way to forgive each other for past hurts so that they can move on with their lives together?
Six Naughty Nights is the second book in Serenity Woods' Love in Reverse series and I enjoyed it just as much, if not more than, the first book Seven Sexy Sins. We had already met Toby in the previous story so I knew I was going to like him but in the end I was surprised at how much I loved his character. He was the kind of guy who would do anything for anyone, he was willing to risk his life for complete strangers after the earthquake because he couldn't walk away and leave people trapped inside the supermarket when he knew he could help them. Toby is kind, generous and very laid back, he could have been angry when he found out that Esther had a son but although he was sad about the time he'd missed out on with Charlie he was more focused on becoming part of his life from now onwards. What really got to me about Toby was the way he felt about himself though, he was such a lovely guy but he felt that he was inferior to his friends because they were all more educated than he was. His self esteem was incredibly low in some ways and it didn't help that his family and friends constantly teased him but I loved the way Esther saw the real Toby and realised how sensitive and caring he was.
Esther had her heart broken when Toby walked away from her after their time together in Fiji, she was hurt and betrayed and then found herself pregnant and alone. Life had taught her never to let anyone get close to her or she would only end up getting hurt and Toby just confirmed that when he left her. Bringing up Charlie alone has been incredibly hard but it has made her very independent and she is determined to live her life the way she wants. She is scared of letting anyone close to herself or Charlie and it isn't easy for her to open up to Toby for a second time. Esther had some growing up to do throughout the story, she needed to realise that she doesn't have to go it alone and that Toby will always be there for their son and also for her if she'll let him. She is terrified of telling him that she deliberately kept his son away from him to punish him for breaking her heart and worried that he will never forgive her for it. The chemistry between them is great but they are both scared to put their feelings out there in case they end up being rejected and they have a lot of issues they need to work through before they can hope for a happy ever after. I did think they made a great couple though and I really loved the way Esther was so quick to jump to Toby's defence when she felt his family and friends took their teasing too far.
Charlie was utterly adorable and the things he came out with often had me laughing out loud as I was reading. I loved the way Toby immediately connects with his son and never once doubts that he is Charlie's father but he is also sensitive to Esther's feelings and reassures her that he will never try to take her son away from her. Another thing I really enjoyed about Six Naughty Nights was the chance to catch up with the characters from the previous book, it was great to see how Faith, Rusty, Dan and Eve were all getting along as this story is set quite a few months later. I'm looking forward to continuing this series and I'm very curious to see who the next story will be about - I have a feeling it could be Toby's brother Felix but I guess I'll just have to wait and see. If you're looking for a fun contemporary romance series with great characters, scorching hot sex scenes and a feel good factor that will leave you smiling at the end you can't go wrong with these books and I'll definitely be reading more by Serenity Woods in the future.
Six Naughty Nights is the second book in the Love in Reverse series. It’s a great addition. If the first two books are anything to judge off of we are can expect several more sizzling sexy stories.
Toby and Esther are thrown back into each other’s lives; quite literally when an earthquake hits and they are in the same store. Toby doesn’t think, just reacts when the beautiful lady that just walked in and her young toddler are in harm’s way. Imagine his surprise when the young boy he has in his arms looks just like him. So the plot line is set… Now that would be a great book with just that scenario alone and I must admit I have read many with that exact story line. So what does Ms. Woods do to step it up? She adds a little game called Naughty Nights. Let me tell you, with this spicy addition it propels this book far above the rest.
One thing I absolutely love about Wood’s books is her unique and very detailed writing style. Whether she is writing about an earthquake, a tropical island, or a Naughty Nights game, she does so with the ability to place you right inside the scene. There is absolutely no guess work required, it’s like a picture created with words.
Esther is not used to opening herself up to anyone. She is very self-reliant and really struggles having to rely on anyone. She is still very angry with Toby for leaving her after their fling. That is the reason she never told him about her getting pregnant. He made the choice that he didn’t want her, so how can she chance that he may not want their child either?
I loved Toby. He accepted his child and fell in love with him immediately. He has to find a way to get past the anger and the hurt he feels about not knowing or being able to be a part of his son’s life. He knows he left her, and hurt her. He wasn’t prepared for all he was feeling at the time and didn’t know how to handle it.
Toby and Esther have a lot to learn and a lot of growing to do before they get their HEA. There both must learn to let the past go and focus on what they can build together for their future. They have to learn to trust and to forgive. With the addition of their son, Charlie, it just adds a lot of happy moments. He is adorable and his innocent humor really gives the story that extra spark.
There are a lot of characters from book one, Seven Sexy Sins, that play a big role this book. It’s great to reconnect with them, and see how their lives are playing out. If you haven’t has a chance to start this blazing series, I recommend you do. They are filled with fun witty characters, many heartwarming moments, and immense passion.
Six Naughty Nights is the story of Esther and Toby. Toby and Esther have a romantic holiday fling. Esther wants to keep the flame alive, but Toby refuses to remain in contact and goes back to his life. He reconsiders later, but he's left Esther wounded, distrustful, and pregnant. She ignores his attempts to contact her. They meet fortuitously in the supermarket just as an earthquake hits. This is where the story picks up the lives of Esther, Toby, and their son Charlie.
The author shocked me by right away having Esther reveal to Toby that Charlie is his child. It was none of the hiding the child and hoping that he never found out it was his baby that I always found so silly in these kinds of stories. I also found it refreshing that Toby and Esther didn't waste time trying to deny their physical attraction to each other. They decided to enjoy the time they had together for the physical pleasures it could be bring.
So you might we wondering as I was what on earth is this plot going to be since we've revealed the child (check), engaged in sex without all the ploys and delays (check), and the only thing missing was the happy ending where they decide they can't live without each other. That was the crux of this story. I enjoyed the further development of the characters where Toby is portrayed as very sensitive, strong, family oriented, and with insecurities that come along with being the least educated among his family and friends. I did think that part was drawn out a little longer than necessary, and I kept wondering how many times they were going to have sex before they decided to make their relationship permanent. There were several false starts where I thought this is it, and then it didn't happen and it was back to square one.
Charlie was absolutely adorable, and I enjoyed the dialogue that the author wrote for him. Esther was a strong female character, but at the end I felt like slapping her and telling her to just get over the past. She had the courage to tell Toby about Charlie but not that she threw away his phone messages and deliberately didn't contact him? That didn't ring true somehow. These characters pulled me in and made me care about them. Serenity Woods has penned another great book. I loved the ending and felt myself getting misty eyed.
Not my favourite Serenity Woods' for a few reasons, but I still enjoyed this. I really like single parent stories in general and secret baby books can also be good when done right, so the plot of this intrigued me a lot. I wasn't always the biggest fan of Esther; she seemed a little mean at times and I hated how she lied to Toby about her pregnancy, but I also kind of liked that both of the characters had flaws, and Toby certainly made mistakes too.
I've grown used to SW books being around 200-250 pages, and this dragged a little for me at 300 pages. It easily could have (and should have) been 50 pages shorter, imo. As with the last book in this series, this was a lot steamier than the majority of the other SW books I've read and - though this is usually the last thing I'd complain about - I feel like this could have benefitted from a few less sex scenes. It got really repetitive after a while and whereas in the last book we were following the 7 sins pattern and it didn't bother me so much, I felt like the plot here should have been more about Toby, Esther and Charlie as a family, rather than Toby and Esther's sexual relationship.
I did like what we did see of Toby and Charlie's relationship though, that was very sweet. Another thing I appreciated was the plot around the groups' treatment of Toby (they often joke about him being unintelligent and clumsy, not realising they were hurting his feelings). It was written in such a believable way, where they weren't made into villains but still realised their mistakes, and the chemistry of the group from the previous book felt pretty consistent despite the small time jump from book one.
As I write this review I'm aware its very negative, and its making me wonder why I'm rounding up to a 4 star rather than a 3, but Serenity Woods is one of my favourite authors and I enjoy her books so much that even though this has been one of her weaker ones, I can still appreciate her writing style and character building. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this, especially not as your first SW book, but it wasn't a terrible read either.
Six Naughty Nights was filled with lots of fun & sexy naughtiness!
The sex & role playing between Toby & Esther was off-the-charts explosive; all thanks to the Naughty Nights game provided by their good friend, Faith. But, seriously grab a fan or cold drink when reading. That's just my fair warning to readers :)
I really enjoyed this read along with the characters. Toby was such a sexy guy *sigh* and he was 10 times that in the bedroom especially when his dominant side came out to play ;)
But aside from the that, I really liked his character: handsome, sensitive, sweet, and caring. Of course, he also had no hesitation stepping into the father role. I always love a man who can man up.
As for Esther, I liked her as well...for the most part at least. To be honest, I had kind of a love/hate relationship with her. I got quite put off with her character due to her decisions which I thought were quite selfish. However, being in her shoes and from her reasoning, I could understand why she made the choices she did.
The story also flowed smoothly and I thought that the pacing was just perfect. It didn't drag for me and it had a nice pace throughout.
Overall, Serenity Woods has penned a very enjoyable & entertaining story. The story and characters pulled me in immediately from the first opening scene of the earthquake until the very last beautiful scene in Faith's living room. Although I've had to stop at numerous times in the story due to life's demands, I never forgot the story or lost sight of it. Every time picking up the story from where I left off, I connected immediately with the story again and it felt like I had never put it down.
So, yes, Six Naughty Nights was a winner in my book. It was a fun contemporary romance packed with great characters, scorching hot sex scenes and and a fabulous ending that left me smiling & satisfied in the end.
*Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
OH GOD... that was such an emotional read... loved it though... i always forget that Serenity writes stories that are very sexy but also brimming with so much feeling that they reduce me to tears...
I’d firstly like to thanks Serenity Woods for sending me an ARC copy of Six Naughty Nights. You all should know my love for Seven Sexy Sins by now and when Serenity started following me on Twitter, well, I went all fangirl on her and she offered to send me a copy of this sexy book! So here I am, reviewing Six Naughty Nights – the next book in the Love in Reverse series – which was pretty much too hard to put down. Although it did come to a time where I needed sleep and reluctantly had to stop at the next chapter.
For those who have read Seven Sexy Sins, you will know that Toby is a character in that book. The flirty one, the one who everyone teases and it didn’t seem to bother him at all. He’s still the cheeky chap he was in SSS, but we get to see much more of him and his personality. I can’t tell you how many times I laughed at the things that came out of his mouth. He was hilarious.
I love how easy he seemed to slip into the role of being a father, even when he was freaking out about it. He was a natural with Charlie and my heart ached over how much he fell in love with Charlie and how he treated and cared for him even when he had known him for a few hours. It was like he was born to be affectionate and have his own kid to love. He was very family orientated.
Throughout the book, you really see the true Toby appear. Not only is he the cheeky, flirty guy, but he’s sensitive and has insecurities of his own that he has buried deep down because he doesn’t want anyone to know that they do sting when he’s teased. He always tries to get the approval of his friends and family and it pains Esther to see him being treated this way. He’s insecure over his family because he’s the ‘least educated’ one as his two brothers are Lawyers and Doctors.
Despite his insecurities, Toby had a big heart full of love, and he and Charlie were just so cute together. As I’ve mentioned, Toby was a natural; no awkward talking between the two of them and their conversations just flowed, despite Charlie being just over two years old. And for a two year old, he came out with some goddamn funny lines. I just wanted to cuddle him up and have him talk that way with me. He was the most adorable little kid about and you really could tell he was Toby’s son. I also loved how Toby didn’t treat him as a kid as such; he didn’t talk down to him. That way, he and Charlie bantered was hilarious but they also had so many sweet scenes together and the way Charlie just accepted that Toby was his dad, and started calling him ‘Daddy’ brought a tear to my eye.
“You’ve got a big willy.” Charlie observed. “It’s bigger than mine” He studied his own offering. “Size isn’t everything, dude, or so they’d have you believe.”
I can’t tell you how much I howled reading this conversation.
Esther is a strong, independent woman, but she also has insecurities. Ever since Toby walked away from her after their two weeks in Fiji, she was heartbroken, distrustful and left pregnant. Since then it’s just been her and Charlie against the world. She doesn’t have any family and doesn’t like anyone helping her, rather doing it herself. After Toby’s attempts of getting in contact with her, she ignores them, wanting to punish him for how he left her. She knew how to contact him but she didn’t want to, she didn’t want him back in her life, even if Charlie did deserve to know his dad and Toby deserved to know he had a son. So when she sees Toby in the supermarket as an earthquake hits, and he gets them to safety, she doesn’t deny that Charlie is his when she’s asked.
I loved that Ms. Woods didn’t make Esther withhold the information to Toby. Many books draw that out and after a while you want to scream at them, but Esther was honest and because of that, they could get past one obstacle about their past and power through the rest.
Esther and Toby’s attraction was still pure. It was still as hot as it was three years ago but right now, Esther doesn’t want her feelings to return. She wants them to stay hidden away and not get heartbroken again by Toby. She wants to resist him but she can’t. So when they propose to play the role-playing game while they are in Northland, they try to do the same as Rusty and Faith – keep it physical and not let any emotions get in the way. Oh, why didn’t they listen to Rusty? They have too much history to keep old feelings away and sex is never just physical (for some people), emotions truly do get in the way. The more time they spend together, and the more they play the games, love is inevitably going to get in the way.
Now on to the games. I FREAKING LOVED THEM! Is this game real? I think I’d like to buy it because holy hell, Toby and Esther role-playing…I needed cold water thrown over me everytime they has sex because I was burning up. I loved how dominant Toby was in the bedroom and although Esther hated being the ‘sub’ because of how independent she was, it did turn her on to be dominated. Although she was always insecure about her body every time she was naked, Toby loved every part of her and that made her come out of her shell and play along. She was brilliant and being pushed to her limits playing someone else. Every sex scene was intense and steamy but I reallllllly like the sex scene where he tied her up. It was intense and made her vulnerable but it was also a pivotal point in their ‘relationship.’
Throughout everything that happens with Toby and Esther and when her secret does come out, I felt so sorry for both of them. They loved one another but Esther was determined it wouldn’t work and the secret hurt Toby, but he kind of understood somewhere deep down, why she did it. But the ending! Oh the ending. It was just amazing and I was cheering that everything, truly, would be okay for them both.
I absolutely enjoyed Six Naughty Nights. Serenity Woods’ books always draw me in and there is always an amazing storyline wrapped into the book, where it’s not just about sex, it’s about a connection and their journey together and alone. She makes me care about all the characters and makes my emotions go all over the place, much like her characters. I will always come back for more with Serenity Woods and I am so glad that I got to receive an ARC of this book from her, because I will definitely be recommending this to everyone and saying how great it is.
PS. Much like Rusty, Toby is definitely a new book boyfriend and I really couldn’t decide who I love best. It wouldn’t be fair ;)
Toby & Esther. The book is ok, not the greatest. I was just not that into it. It’s a bit unbelievable and rushed and also drawn out at times. Kind of boring & repetitive. It appears to take place in New Zealand do to the language and February being summer for them. They hooked up when on vacation for a week in Figi and they never say each other again. Esther was annoyed that Toby didn’t ask for her number when they left. Esther ended up pregnant and had a boy Charlie who is 2. He ended up in same town as Esther and an earthquake hit while they were in the same store. He recognized her saves her and Charlie. They connect and she tells him about Charlie. Faith from book 1 is doing another article and Esther & Toby do the “research” to help her. They are together for the week and both are falling for each other but both hurt each other previously. Not sure they can get past it. They resolve their problems and live HEA. Next book is about Felix, Toby’s brother.
2.5 Not sure how I missed the last two books after I read the first. A fan of the Billionaire kings and their offspring. Not so much this group. Toby is a well rounded character and interesting. I didn’t mind Esther like others did but got why they disliked what she’d done by keeping the child a secret.
For me, the story was too long. I thought half of the sex was unnecessary. I also thought Toby’s dominate persona in the bedroom was off character for this kind, trusting soul. Knit picky, I suppose but off putting. Charlie was a sweetheart but his vocabulary older than a two year old.
Well written. Some oddities that didn’t match up such as Rusty’s responses going from welcoming to suspicious and accusatory and back to welcoming. Little things. Ack. Didn’t stop me reading though. 😜
Toby was an incredible and appealing leading man. He really grew up and matured throughout the book, becoming a loving and loyal partner as well as father to his precocious and adorable two year old son Charlie.
Esther had a low opinion of herself and very stubbornly continued to blame Toby for one mistake made 3 years earlier. This continued on and on and on in the book until the very last chapter, forcing most of their relationship to be about the physical part and not admitting to the real emotional bond. As a reader, I grew to resent Esther and how hot and cold she could be. I loved Charlie and Toby and the others that make this a great series overall, but Esther was definitely not one of my favorite leading ladies.
This another book by Serenity Woods. It starts it Christchurch when their large earthquake happened & splits a beautiful Cathedral in half. Toby sees again the beautiful girl he made love to three years before but, now she has a young boy with her, Charlie. You will get to know all of Tobys friends, his family & the week they spend together in the Thousand Lakes. A lovely book that delves into the Characters & the reason things are done! I will recommend this book but, it is more erotic then most of her books! Be prepared!
Mr. Sinful, Mr. Seductive and Mr. Sensational. Hot! Hot! Hot! These three interwoven stories are all about fulfilling fantasies. If your sex life needs a boost, read these. The characters are loveable, real people and you can identify with them, which means you really want things to work out happily for them. If you love these three, there’s a follow-up novella you can access from the author’s website.
2.5 Short review. After enjoying the first book Mr Sinful in the Heartfelt series, I was really looking forward to reading this but unfortunately this wasn't a good follow up. I really like Toby is was fun, caring and sweet his parts made the book enjoyable, Esther on the other hand was annoying, insecure and judgmental her parts were less enjoyable. Especially reading her thoughts. I adored her son Charlie and his interactions with Toby.
A Second Chance Romance. In the midst of an earthquake Toby finds out he is a father but as far as Esther is concerned he threw away any relationship they could have had three years ago. However in the short term she is agreeable to connecting with Toby as long as it is only physical; she won’t risk her heart again. Lots of role playing sex games and physical male dominance.
This is a solid 4.5*. Toby and Charlie utterly destroyed me. I'm a sucker for a book with a man who loves his kid but good LORD this was just a joy in parts, and laugh out loud in other places. It's two people who've made mistakes owning those mistakes too which is always nice to read about. Huzzah, Ms. Woods. Huzzah.
Toby meets his son, Charlie, for the first time during an earthquake in Christchurch. He instantly recognised Esther, who he hadn't seen since he left her at the airport in Fiji. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts but they both harbour doubts and, for Esther, a certain amount of resentment.
I week of passion the end not exactly as planned. A re-encounter during an earthquake and a seductive game ! Is everything needed to ignite passion and brings feelings that was inside lonely hearts.
Fantastic read! I did want to strangle both Esther and Toby several time throughout the story. Arg! Communication people!! But their faults built up the tension. The sex was hot, the chemistry even hotter, all in all it was a great story!
Toby walked away from her after their wonderful time together. Esther doesn't tell him she's pregnant. Can they get past the hurt they inflicted on each other?
Six Naughty Nights is book two in the Love in Reverse series. While I didn’t read Seven Sexy Sins, I had absolutely no problem reading this book. If you have read Seven Sexy Sins, then you will be happy to know that Faith, Eve, Rusty, and Dan all make appearances in this book.
Esther and Toby originally met three years ago, while they were each on vacation. They ended up spending fourteen days together, having sex whenever and wherever they could. When it was time to leave, Esther asked Toby if they could still see each other. Toby said no, since they lived on opposite sides of the country and he didn’t think a long distance relationship would work. Honestly, at the time, Toby wasn’t looking to be in a committed relationship. Toby walking away broke Esther’s heart, but it also did something to Toby as well. Once he got on the airplane, he realized his mistake and tried in vain to contact Esther. Shortly after returning home, Esther starts receiving messages from Toby. But with her heart broken in pieces, she refuses to speak with him. She soon learns that she’s pregnant and chooses to not tell Toby as her way of punishing him for breaking her heart.
In an unbelievable chance encounter, just seconds before an earthquake, Toby and Esther come face to face. Toby immediately knows that Charlie is his son. After Toby saves both Esther and Charlie, Esther is quick to confirm that Charlie is indeed his son. Immediately, they each know that their attraction for one another is still there.
Esther’s house is destroyed during the earthquake and Toby suggests first that they come and stay with him and then that they go with him to the Northland, while he attends his best friend’s wedding. While looking through Toby’s apartment, Esther discovers a card game called Naughty Nights. It turns out the game belongs to Faith and she wants Toby to help her with her latest article by acting out some of the adventurous cards in the game. Toby and Esther both come to an agreement that while they are in the Northland they will act out some of the Naughty Nights scenarios. Each goes in telling the other that it will be only physical, without any emotions. But they each know in their hearts that it isn’t true. They just aren’t willing to tell the other. What transpires is HOT on a whole new level.
This was one of those books where I liked and hated the main characters all at the same time. Toby is a great guy, he’s just NOT the alpha guy that I usually go for in a book. He’s insecure and allows his family and friends to put him down constantly. At times, he even belittles himself. He’s a go with the flow kind of guy, who doesn’t seem to lose his temper and he never stands up for himself.
Esther, while I respect her for being a single mom without help from anyone, I hate that she put herself in that situation. Her mother died years ago and her father died while she was pregnant. While she was in the hospital giving birth to Charlie, she was mad at Toby because he wasn’t there to support her. She made the decision not to tell Toby she was pregnant, thus causing herself to be alone. She likes to blame Toby for never being around. She has several moments of immaturity when it comes to Toby. One thing I REALLY liked about Esther is that she had the guts to stand up for Toby when it came to his friends and family belittling him.
At times I felt that Toby was too aggressive sexually, but it turned out that was just the way Esther liked it. Even with the character flaws, I still really liked this book. You will immediately hope that these two can work out their problems. I found myself looking forward to the next book in the series.
While this is a hot steamy erotic romance, I found that it still has nice life lessons. One of my favorite quotes from the book is:
"The thing about forgiveness is that it's not about forgetting. It's not about pretending it didn't happen. It's about accepting that someone made a mistake. That they did something because they were hurt, or angry. And it's about acknowledging that although it's not okay, providing they show remorse it IS possible to move on. You have to accept the other person isn't perfect. Loving someone--REAL love, not hearts and flowers stuff--is about recognising their faults and saying it's okay, I'm going to love you in spite of them."
The first in this series was the reason I so readily agreed to review this one and the similarities made it both fabulous and frustrating at the same time. In this one, Toby meets back up with an old flame, which he can’t quite put out of his head, in the midst of an Earthquake. There, he realises that the young boy that she has with her is his son and that he has unknowingly been a Daddy for a while. It is, Ladies and Gents, a secret baby plotJ *happy dance*
I love this trope and this one had the usual “Mom though Dad was an A-Hole who was only after sex, so didn’t tell him” plot line, except, this time, mom was dead wrong. Toby was LOVELY. Once he found out he had a son he did everything in his power to try to get to know his son and, bar a few very inappropriate but funny quips, I thought he did a fine job! He was sweet yet firm with the very cute little munchkin and my heart melted with every hair ruffle he threw his father-starved child. I adored him in all ways but I especially loved him in his relationship in Ester. He was so set on not trying to scare her off, that he put his own feelings and wants at bay. True, he was running scared from them too, but, deep down, he knew what he wanted. I loved him.
Ester was a good heroine but her decision making was terrible. What woman decides to not tell the man who was the father of her child that he was a father, even after he came looking for her, because she was piqued that he treated their holiday romance as thus? Then she made scenes at a wedding (great timing there) and perpetually voiced that Toby couldn’t be attracted to her, even when he showed her differently often. She frustrated me because she was so stubborn in her beliefs but I did like that she could be swayed by tangible proof. She could see that Toby was a fabulous father and she knew that they lit up the sheets together. It was so odd the way she was a different character in bed and out; out she was over-analytical and closed off out of bed but within situations with Toby she was a fabulous sex-kitten who was willing to try anything. I liked her in the sexual scenes but she annoyed me periodically in the ones outside of the bedroom.
The sex scenes are what I read this book for and they didn’t disappoint. The premise of the Naughty Nights game was a simple one; the game contained challenge cards for role playing sex games and there were male and female cards. My favourite was probably the inquisitor role play *fans*. Every single sex scene was amazingly hot, even the rougher ones, and these two together were absolutely explosive. Serenity Woods writes incredibly raunchy sex scenes that are not simply there as icing on the cake of the plot.
The similarities between book one and two are obvious; in both books the H/h have a previous relationship and in both they decide on sex for a set period of time, with some risqué themes, just ‘cos they both were single. In both books the downfall is obvious to the reader; you cannot have sex with someone you have any sort of feeling for without it becoming more than just sex. It was obvious that it would be the same plot, with slightly different types of baggage, in this one as with the last and that was a little disappointing to me. Overall, I did enjoy the book a great deal, but only after I accepted the similarities and moved on.
If you want a sexy read with a secret baby plot and amazingly inventive sex scenes, this is one for you. With a heavenly hero, with a very dirty side, this is a tale that will melt your heart and your panties at the same time. Read with an ice-pop nearby.
