My heart throbbed a merciless, rhythmic beat as I accepted just how precious he was to me.
Nick tumbled hard for the waifish imp crying over a crushed pink donut. They were only little boys, but those big tears caused Nick's protective instincts to flare and he was forever captivated.
Though the future beckoned, Nick felt conflicted. He had fallen in love, and his aching desire for Cameron had grown deeper than he ever imagined possible. While Nick had always offered Cam his unwavering support, Cameron's downward spiral of self-doubt and battle for self-reliance nearly push Nick to the edge of letting go.
The thought of him with someone else, loving someone else, wrecked me.
Cam realized he was a little different. He was artistic, flamboyant, and adored sparkly, pretty things. Endlessly bullied for not being “masculine enough”, Cam strived to discover his place in the world. College was supposed to help, but things weren’t going as planned.
Cam gained strength in Nick’s friendship, his personal knight in shining armor. A lifetime of indecisions paired with a surprising hunger for the one man who’d always been his anchor, propels Cam to face reality. Change was happening, whether he was ready or not.
“I promise I won’t ever leave you again, Cam. We’ll never be apart.”
Two men battle their hearts amidst an uncertain future.
When he can no longer hide his feelings, will Nick break his sacred promise to never leave Cam’s side even though his heart and body desperately crave the only man he has ever loved?
Can Cameron find the strength to believe in himself enough to follow his own path, or will his stubbornness keep him from chasing his own dreams and risk losing the man who’s always stood by him?
Never Apart is a 140k M/M romance with an HEA between two childhood best friends who discover fate sometimes brings you together over a crushed pink donut.
This book contains sexually explicit scenes and is intended for adult readers only.
I fell in love with Nick and Cam from the prologue when Cam professed he "like-liked boys." Extremely well-written, Never Apart is a peek into the lives of two best friends who've grown to love each other, as they've grown up together. At times deeply emotional, the light-hearted moments - often involving food, snark, and Winters' obvious obsession with Skittles candy - balance it out at just the right times. And did I mention the sexy times are H-O-T HOT?!?! If you are expecting the typical jock and twink friends to lovers romance, this is so much more than that. From childhood through the struggle to be accepted for who you are, to finding the way to fated love, Never Apart will tug at your heartstrings as Cam realizes he can have his "knight in shining armor." Caution: don't read this book on an empty stomach. You will find yourself craving frosted doughnuts, noodles, and fruit-flavored candy. I highly recommend this book. Now go away so I can read it again. :)
Book & Author: Never Apart by Ashe Winters Rating: 4.5 stars
Best friends to lovers? Yes, please! The snarky guy, who loves being himself, makeup and all? Oh, hell yeah! Sweet sexy scenes that give depth to the relationship? Most definitely!
Cameron was easy to love. His personality, his snark, his love to see people blush. He wrapped me around his manicured finger so easily. Watching his evolution was heartbreaking and fun and made me proud. Cameron was this dynamic characters that couldn’t see his own strengthens and was in denial about his wants for his future.
Nick had been in love with his best friend for years. He never spoke up, never told Cameron because he feared he would lose him. People are starting to see the signs and some things are changing between them. A building tension that they never had was suddenly there. Nick is such a sweet guy with a heart of gold. He had given up so much just to be with the guy he loved even if it wasn’t reciprocated.
This was a long story that held my attention because of the characters this author created. Each one was strong and clear and had their own unique voice and brought something important to the story. From Blake to Tatum and Ian to Kylie and Ren to David. Every single one moved the story forward whether that be with their bad attitude, bad guy ways, best friend status, or constant blushing. I loved their families, their sense of humor, even their annoying sibling interferences.
I’m glad I decided to pick up a copy of this book and cannot wait for Tatum’s book later this year. If you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend it.
3.5 would have been higher but omg it was sooooooooo long! I skimmed a ton of it and still thought it was too long, I liked the characters a lot and the story was good don't get me wrong but good god it was almost 6,000 kindle locations! I think we could have gotten the whole story with probably half the words.
This book is a lesson in the biggest stereotypes on earth! Also, Nicholas wants to be a neurosurgeon, he was accepted to the pre-med program at Harvard University, and he turns it down because why? Because of his crush on Cameron and not wanting to leave him! Are you fucking kidding me right now? You say no to Harvard because of some guy that you like? Even if this guy is the love of your life, you don’t fucking say no to Harvard, ever! This is fucking ridiculous and obnoxious as hell! I am done, I cannot with this absolute garbage!!
That is ALL I have or will have to say!! This is my rightful opinion in my safe space here!!!!
What I love about his story the most was how you get to see where they started and snippets along the way to adulthood. As you read about their college life and who they meet there you get more. So not only do you have a great romance, you also have some.angst that's past and present. And it's best friends to lovers. My ultimate favorite. All the fear, love, types of trust, and of course the lack of communication that really lets you feel these complex characters. Ashe Winters was able to take two characters, one of which I seriously wanted to hurt, and make you feel bad for them. When you can redeem characters or at least hate them less it's a big thing. Now I want to know what's up with Tatum. Plus, is like more of David and Ren. Curious about Blake as well. Yep I'll be reading more from this author. That's for sure.
That's what drew me into this story. Well, that and the fact that Cam and Nick had been friends for pretty much ever. I love when a long standing friendship turns into romance. And these guys were absolutely adorable and frustrating. I loved the sweet playfulness they had with each other in the first half of the book and hated when things got complicated between them. They made me smile as much as they made my heart hurt. I loved their friends too but didn't always love their families.
This is a long book but you're never bored. There's always something happening to keep you engaged with them. I was kind of hoping for a follow up with Nick's brother Tatum but I think Cam's brother Aaron's story will be really great.
A great friends to lovers story. Nick had always loved Cam from the moment he met him when they were seven and five, he just didn't realise it. Cam was the same. This story followed their lives through the trials of college, secrets, bad choices, bullying and assault. Through insecurities and fears. It took friends and family to finally get Cam and Nick to realise what was right in front of their faces, each other. I look forward to more in this series.
So I'm the dissenting opinion on this one because most people loved this book but for me it just didn't work. For me this read too much like a YA book which I just am not all that fond of. Sometimes there is an exception and I love it but this wasn't one. These boys just read really young and immature to me (especially Cam) and the book was SO long. In fact, for a lot of it nothing really happens. I think the book could have been very enjoyable if it had been 1/2 as long.
I can't tell you how much I love this book I've read it maybe 6-7 times now. The complexity or the story spanning their whole lives and how everything interconnect just makes you never want to stop reading. Very good job giving All characters unique and interesting personalities. And representing so many different backgrounds. And the LOVE sigh...
Who says you can't find your soul mate when you're seven? College is a time for trying new things, meeting new people and finding yourself. When love comes calling you just need to be brave enough to take a chance.
I am biased because I love MCs that are sassy and femme but this book was truly an excellent read! I loved how gentle are caring Nick was towards Cameron. An awesome plot and well developed secondary characters.
Oh how I loved these characters! Cam and his knight in shining armor lol. They were so in love and I loved watching it all come about. Then Ian and Kylie! Great supporting characters! I really love their story too. Overall a great book I couldn't put down.
The writing just really didn't work for me. I felt like I was being told far too much, not shown, with a lot of back and forth between past and present. And yet you still feel like you haven't really been told anything of any weight.
This one will make your heart hurt but will also make you smile at how sweet the romance is between these two best friends. Nick has loved Cam forever. Cam is the boy who loved pretty sparkly things and feminine clothes and was bullied for it. Nick was his protector. Their story is special a 5* read for me.
I adore a book where they have known each other since childhood. Nicky and Cam know so much about each other except for the fact that they are in love with each other. The knight and the damsel were perfect guys together. The sweetness and heat never stopped. Loved this book. Thank you.
This book was an amazing story. I put it down for a short time while reading ARCs and couldn't stop thinking about it. I couldn't wait to pick it up again. The author has done an amazing job of bringing to her readers a story of two little boys, Cameron and Nick who meet over a smashed donut and a lifetime of love and devotion is born. Nick is protective of his glitter treasure that is Cameron. A small gay boy who loves all things that glitter and shine. It doesn't matter whether it is male or female. Both gay, they admit this in middle school and they don't look back. There is so much to this story that grabs onto your heartstrings and won't let go. Family, and loyal friends fill their lives as well as bullying, violence, extreme homophobia, gay virginity, leaving your life long dreams because you love someone so much, denying love, finding love, hot gay sex, sexual and homophobic harassment at work, and lifelong love that is born in the blink of pair of large brown eyes. I couldn't recommend this story enough. Such a super job. I can't wait to read the next one this author writes.
Loved these boys. I'm a sucker for a friends to lovers book and this one fit the bill perfectly. However, it easily could have been 150 pages shorter with the same result. Lots of inner dialogue and "I can't", "can he tell", "I must hide" type of stuff. The supporting characters were fantastic and I'm sure I'll read the next in the series, hopefully pared down a bit.
I just love a good friends to lovers story. I was kind of confused about why Cameron liked to bury his feelings. He was so slow to understand that Nick loved him. I also liked the characters and the flow of this book. I would have liked to see what happened to the guy who tried to get Cameron fired. This book is interesting because I have never experienced that type of bullying but I know it exists. I hope there is another book in this series or I hope to read more from the author. I really enjoyed this book
