With his marriage and his job ending at the same time, and even his dog dying, he struggles to carry on. Can he keep working, keep believing, and keep living? When a surprising presence fills his silent house he finds new hope. But is that hope too good to be true?Karl Meyer’s retirement becomes a lonely prospect when his wife leaves him and his dog dies. Such losses might test one’s sanity. That’s what Karl assumes when he hears noises, even voices, in his old house. He’s still mentoring graduate students and writing an important book on Albert Schweitzer. He’s too old for fantasies. But is he too old to believe in miracles?Christmas approaching, Karl goes through the motions for the holiday as he is doing for work. When his grown kids visit and a foundling dog seems destined to stay, the house is filled in ways he didn’t expect.Karl begins to believe he has found Jesus in a way far more literal than he ever imagined. Sharing the story of a Jesus who is visible and audible seems risky. But a counselor friend and a friendly neighbor lady both seem inclined to believe the old professor. And Jesus seems determined to convince not only Karl but as many of his friends and colleagues as possible. This fourth book in the Seeing Jesus series explores the renewal of faith that resides beyond intellectual categories, where a truly personal relationship with the savior is possible.
As a small boy in Lincoln, Nebraska, I listened enrapt to my grandmother reading me children’s stories, such as The Little Engine That Could. I also recall the elementary school librarian who read us Winnie the Pooh, imitating all the voices. And I remember the first summer I was allowed to ride my bike to the library on my own.
Writing started for me in school. Teachers encouraged me to pursue what they perceived as a gift. For me, my imagination was a challenge as much as a gift. I found the real world so much less enthralling.
In my Christian high school, the English teacher supplied me with unassigned novels. I wrote the senior class play and served as editor of both the yearbook and the school newspaper.
At Houghton College, I majored in writing, including coursework in poetry and fiction. But I also majored in biblical studies and was persuaded to take my writing skills in a more “respectable” direction—academia and nonfiction writing. Remember that less enthralling real world?
When all my academic work led to no great employment breakthrough, I hopped from there onto that rapid conveyor known as the tech industry. Starting in the 1990s, I shaped a new career, eventually starting my own computer consulting firm.
During those years, I focused on raising two boys and cherished the role of doing the bedtime reading, including attempting all the voices in The Chronicles of Narnia series. I also composed a few stories from scratch for my attentive little audience, usually around a campfire.
I started writing again in 2006. Following a friend’s suggestion, I meditated on scripture by imaging myself present on a day when Jesus healed an entire multitude. That meditation turned into my first novel, And He Healed Them All. Closing the gap between the sparse descriptions in the Gospels and what must have been a rich miraculous experience enticed me.
A series of unusual events (ask me someday) prodded me to write my second novel, The Reign: Out of Tribulation. I began self-publishing with those first two books. My third novel, Seeing Jesus, expanded into a series when numerous readers begged me for more. As it turns out, that kind of begging is hard to resist.
In all, I have published fifteen books on Amazon, fourteen of them as installments in one of my series. I am constantly working to improve my skills and to better share my message with the reading public.
Anyone tracking my address could guess that I’ve had some setbacks in my life. But God has stayed the same, even as I evolve and have to start over again.
Now I am married and living in Vernon Hills, Illinois, attending a vibrant church and meeting new people. I work part-time on my computer consulting business, and I devote much of the rest of my time to writing and marketing my books, with my wife as my highly motivated marketing director.
Have read all four in the series, and, as with each of the preceding three, hoped this book would never end! It really doesn't end at the completion of the novel, as the author's treatment of the eternal doesn't fade away when the novel is finished. I am a born-again Christian who enjoys every day what the author is leading his reader towards--an illumination of what it's like to live life with the indwelling Holy Spirit. These four novels are by far the best Christian fiction I have ever read, because they are faithful to the Biblical teaching regarding the Lord's heart and sovereignty over His creation. Importantly, they would make perfect gifts to any Middle Graders (and up) whom you'd like to enjoy Jesus' presence all day, every day i.e. 24/7/365. Because they are so well written, these books will revolutionize many Christian lives, refresh and encourage all of us, and open many unseeing eyes.
Touched my heart in so many ways. Especially the scriptures used in the conversations between Jesus and Karl ,and how He interjected them in their discussions. It was beautifully done. A blessing! Also I believe these books have caused many readers to reflect on their memories and helped them as it did me. Thank you, Jeffrey McClain Jones, for the amazing theme and special messages given in all these books. I especially thank Who inspired you to write these wonderful books. You successfully accomplished it ,I do believe . Lots of extra extra information in the lives of the characters in each book, but I highly recommend more people will read these book. I haven’t read them all yet, but looking forward to doing it. Can’t stop reading them. Thank you again.
This is my 5th book by this author, 4th in this series. I find it interesting that the stories cover different people at different stages of their lives. Book 4 deals with a retired man, recently divorced in his late age, and lost his dog. How he changes with the appearance of Jesus is possible the way all of us would respond having lived a life of 74 years and figure why now. As with the other stories, the departure of seeing Jesus is very touching because we would most likely respond in the same way. I give this a strong recommendation to read and discuss with others. Even now, me thinking of the impact of Karl's life is how I would respond.
Such interesting stories. This took on an erudite retired professor whose belief in Jesus seemed very shallow and through a serious of incidents turned him into a strong believer. I especially liked the mental tussle between his own thoughts and Jesus words. I have heard from the Holy Spirit for many years myself.
My only criticism, though very small, was too many similes especially in the beginning of the book.
I definitely would recommend this book and all the others in this series. Right now these books play a really important part in my sanity with the whole COVID-19 social distancing time. In particular this book ,relating to Karl from a living alone but not really alone perspective. Jesus is always here with me. Thanks for a really good read. Looking forward to the next book and main character.
BRAVO! Mr. Jones! Kudos for this awesome look into a great what if Jesus came to dinner. While that isn't what this story is about, it does give us another look into what would happen IF we really had a 3 D encounter with the Messiah himself. Thank you Mr. Jones for letting us feel like we were a part of your book. Now a bigger question I have for you. Did Jesus come to you for a while? I mean in 3D, for he is always with us.
The "Finding Jesus" series brings Jesus & His Love for us into daily life. Each book gets better & better! Jesus is not just a historical figure or a legend, but the Eternal Son of Our Heavenly Father who wants us to know Him as our Friend as well as our savior!.
Why am I finding this so much fun to read. Jesus has been present in my life ever since I've been three years old, so that's about 70 years. I have been able to identify with all the characters, in some ways because of all my life experiences. I can hardly wait to read book number five.
This is book 4 in the series of 10. It is amazing - how each book is written with the psyche and environment of each Jesus ‘recipient’ with such accuracy! I truly felt as though delving into each subject’s life was so realistic!! I admire Mr Jones’ accomplishments - so very Jesus inspired!!
What a wonderful thought provoking book! Not just this one but everything this author writes. As Jesus appears in the lives of different people in different ways, he gives them just what they need to help them understand that He is always with us even though we can't see him. He increases their faith, strength, peace, and abilities to hear him and feel him. Let it change your way of thinking about Jesus! Surely, you will be touched in some way!
Just finished Finding Jesus, the 3rd book of the series. Thought provoking, heartwarming and uplifting. Although you know these are stories, they make you think about your own relationship with Jesus. It changes and grows it, gently and brings comfort that’s kind of hard to explain. Read the series and you’ll see what I mean.
I love this series so much. I find myself talking to Jesus more because these books have me believing he’s right next to me ALL the time.
I wish there’d been a moment that Karl spoke to Darla just for some closure as to why their marriage failed. (More for ME than for them 🙂.) I think she would have understood why Karl seemed so close off.
I've read two of the books in this series, and as a child of God, I pray for many family members and friends to experience ever present Jesus as these individuals did.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the storyline and left me with a lot of questions. What would I do if I could physically see Jesus and talk to him? This is a heart warming story which I found ghar hard to put doen.
I love the whole encounter with Jesus. It makes me feel closer to my savior and I can just imagine what my encounter with Jesus might be like. And it makes me see him actively engaged in my life and in other believers lives too.
In these days of COVID isolation, a divided nation and being ordered to refrain from holiday gatherings, this book lifted my spirit. I find myself quite frequently talking to Jesus, to my LORD, to our Creator and giving thanks.
Book four was just as good as the first three. Although I think Karl's story was a bit more focused on him writing a book for money. Especially when he didn't finish the healing. But I am enjoying the series.
I have read all of the books in this series so far and I love how they tie together at the end! Reading these books has increased my faith and made me think about Jesus being with me always.
Jeffery McClain Jones, has a grasp of that which we all long for!! The reality of who Jesus is and Who He is to each of us. This series is transformative when you open your heart and let Him in!!!! Jeffery, thank you with all of my heart!!!
I really enjoy this series although this book got a little too wordy for me maybe because I have little experience at university. I love the story and the passion for Jesus. 🙂
Great series I absolutely love these books I actually feel like God is so close to me when I am reading them. Well done Jeffrey keep this series going I LOVE it!
What a good read it was light reading with deeper meaning and thoughtfulness. It was inspiring, comforting and thought provoking. It was a sweet reminder of the nearness and love of Christ.
A fourth book in a great series is the best so far
That this one touched me, as a teacher and writer in his seventies, is no real surprise. Jeffrey has again brought us into a realistic conversion experience in the midst of an urban fantasy.
The story is sweet, smart, and joyful. The characters are marvelous. You will truly enjoy and be edified by this tale.
